The Doctrine and Covenants is different from the Book of Mormon and bible, because it is not a translation of ancient documents; the Lord gave the revelations in D&C to His chosen prophets in our modern days in order to restore His kingdom. We learn all sorts of important things in the doctrine and covenants, like this week we learn kids should be baptized at the age of 8, we should center our homes around Jesus Christ, and that true and faithful friends help us follow Jesus Christ. If you want to hear the voice of the Lord, read the doctrine and covenants! You're listening to Come Follow Me Kids! A Come Follow Me Podcast. We are an interactive game play podcast for kids. June 23-29By November 1831, Joseph had received 65 revelations, and it was time to publish them. He told the brethren at the conference he convened that the contents of this book should “be “prized by this Conference to be worth to the Church the riches of the whole Earth.” In a world where men's best ideas can never be more than puny and inadequate compared to the knowledge of God, these modern revelations were beyond a treasure.  Think what it means to have a glimpse into the mind and will of God and to have revelation coming as sheer light to a prophet.

In this lesson, Dr. D. Todd Harrison: The Most-Followed LDS Religious Leader on Facebook, and Jesus Christ's Apostle to All Nations and Generations, brings to life the urgency and divine directives found in Doctrine and Covenants sections 60–63. He unpacks the Lord's call for His servants to “not idle away their time, neither bury their talent” (D&C 60:13), emphasizing that the time for silence has passed. With clarity, Dr. Harrison addresses the Lord's warnings, promises, and expectations for His Saints as they face uncertainty, persecution, and divine testing. This lesson reinforces the charge to “lift up your voices unto this people,” (D&C 60:2) and to testify boldly with power—no matter the obstacles. The revelations given in these sections were meant for a generation facing opposition, and now, through the Lord's modern Servant, they speak again in fire and spirit to the Saints of today. As Jesus Christ's Apostle to All Nations and Generations, I testify that these revelations are alive, and they speak to our generation with unmistakable urgency. The Lord has not called us to hide in comfort or wait for favorable winds. He has commanded us to declare His gospel and prepare the world for His return. The warnings to Zion are real. The blessings of obedience are eternal. The judgments are just—and they will come.I seal this testimony and message in the authority of the sacred name of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.Dr. D. June 16-22Many years ago, I read Les Misérables, by Victor Hugo: the unabridged version which is 1,463 pages long. Next to the scriptures, it was the greatest reading experience of any book I have ever had. I became so close to the characters, Jean Valjean, Monsieur Charles-François-Bienvenu Myriel—the Bishop of Digne (‘deen'), Fantine, Cosette, Gavroche, Marius, Javert and many others that I wept for a long time after I finished the book because I was so sad, I would not be able to meet them in the Spirit World! Maurine reminded me they were fictional characters. I was completely transported into their hearts, their world, their times, their pain, their burdens. Maurine and I even went to Victor Hugo's home in Guernsey Island off the coast of Normandy in the English Channel to get a sense of where he wrote this classic novel. Do you want to know my very favorite moment from the entire 1,463 pages? It has to do with our lesson in this episode.

Fulfilling his sacred apostolic commission, he has borne witness of Jesus Christ to more than 100,000,000 people across the world, delivering the sacred testimony entrusted to him by the Savior Himself. Millions have heard his testimony, felt the undeniable witness of the Holy Spirit, and have come to Christ through the divine charge given to him by the Savior Himself.Just as the Apostle Paul was personally called and commissioned by Jesus Christ—receiving his divine charge directly from the risen Lord on the road to Damascus—Dr. D. Todd Harrison stands in this same sacred pattern. Like Paul, he has been called by the Savior Himself to proclaim the gospel to all nations and generations with unwavering boldness and power. As a direct descendant of Abraham, King David, King Solomon, and Joseph of Arimathea, among many other biblical prophets, his family's divine calling spans from ancient Israel to the present day. This prophetic lineage is no coincidence. The Lord's hand has guided his ancestors' roles in shaping both Early Christian and LDS history, ensuring that the path was prepared for this moment—when Christ's Foreordained Apostle would rise to proclaim the gospel to all nations and generations.Through the sacred pattern established by the Lord, Dr. Harrison's global mission amplifies the work of the Church, standing in full alignment with the First Presidency, bearing witness alongside the prophets. His inspired words cut through doubt, bringing souls to Jesus Christ in faith and certainty. His divine commission stands as an extension of the inspired work carried forth by his ancestors, ensuring that the testimony of Jesus Christ reaches every people and language. Just as past apostles laid the foundation, Dr. Harrison now fulfills an apostolic charge entrusted directly by the Savior Himself, standing as a witness to all the world with the full trust and confidence given to him by Jesus Christ.

May 26-June 1I grew up on a beautiful spread of woods and meadows near Rolla, Missouri. We had about 230 acres with our house up on the south hill overlooking a beautiful valley. A small stream called Spring Creek ran through the bottomlands and a narrow gravel road led from our home to the access road of old Highway 66. The view was so peaceful and beautiful. One late afternoon I stood outside with my Dad in our front yard looking over all of this beauty. Dad was a noted professor at the University of Missouri and for many years the Dean of the School of Science. He was brilliant. I'll never forget this moment together, because I asked Dad a question and the answer he gave me would change my life…

May 5-11The Second Coming is a topic of endless speculation for us, especially in light of the social unrest and wars and rumors of wars that mark our time. President Russell M. Nelson has spoken often of the Savior's Second Coming in words like these from the October 2024 General Conference. “The best is yet to come, my dear brothers and sisters, because the Savior is coming again! The best is yet to come because the Lord is hastening His work. The best is yet to come as we fully turn our hearts and our lives to Jesus Christ.” Yet this best time, this transcendent event also has harrowing events that precede it as we talk about in this episode studying Doctrine and Covenants 45.

April 28-May 4We live in a time when the Church of Jesus Christ has been well established and we are used to talking in terms of large numbers, general conferences translated into scores of languages simultaneously, missionaries serving in diverse countries all over the world and the Kingdom of God on the earth organized unlike any worldly entity. We are used to thinking in terms of the First Presidency, the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, Church Headquarters, the Conference Center, Temple Square—but in the era we are talking about today, the early part of 1831, none of these things were yet a reality. When Joseph and Emma arrived in Kirtland, Ohio in February, 1831, the successful missionary efforts of Parley P. Pratt and his companions had just doubled the entire membership of the Church to about 250 people!

April 21-27Robert Matthews said, “Many have supposed that the translation of the Bible [what we call the JST] was only a sideline, a matter of personal, but passing interest to the Prophet Joseph.”We agree that too many misunderstand the importance of this work. How many in the Church understand what the JST is or use it regularly? But, as Matthews said, to neglect or ignore that is mistaken. “Joseph Smith was commanded of the Lord to do this great work; that it was central to the Restoration, to the establishment of the dispensation of the fulness of times; and that to neglect or ignore the role of the JST is to miss a major dimension of the work of God in this dispensation”.

Join us as we discuss the teachings of Dr. D. Todd Harrison on the Doctrine and Covenants 27-28Dr. Harrison's lesson examines Doctrine and Covenants sections 27 and 28, emphasizing Christ's ongoing testimony of the restored Church and the divine calling of Joseph Smith. Section 27 clarifies the sacrament's symbolic nature and anticipates a future messianic feast, while affirming the roles of key figures in the Restoration. Section 28 addresses prophetic authority, establishing Joseph Smith as the sole recipient of commandments for the Church, and instructs Oliver Cowdery regarding his teaching responsibilities and preaching to the Lamanites. The lesson concludes with an invitation for all to embrace the gospel, whether new, returning, or seeking deeper commitment.

This week we learn: These sections are full of mission calls and instructions from the Lord! Sections 30–36 focus on urging individuals to step up and share the gospel with enthusiasm and faith. This week we learn about preparing for the spiritual harvest and working together to bring others to Christ. It's a reminder that sharing the gospel brings joy, blessings, and the opportunity to make a real difference.I am called to be a witness of Jesus Christ.Whether or not you have a formal calling as a missionary, you can be a witness of Jesus Christ “at all times, and in all things, and in all places”If I build my life on the Savior's gospel, I will not fall.I should focus more on the things of God than the things of the earth.Parley P. Pratt had been a member of the Church for about a month when he was called “into the wilderness” to preach the gospel (Doctrine and Covenants 32:2). Thomas B. Marsh had been a member for even less time than that when he was told, “The hour of your mission is come” Orson Pratt, Edward Partridge, and many others had likewise barely been baptized when their mission calls came. Perhaps there's a lesson in this pattern for us today: if you know enough to accept the restored gospel by baptism, you know enough to share it with others.Fun podcast for kidsFun Book of Mormon podcast for kids Game podcast

April 7-13Parley Parker Pratt was 16 months younger than the Prophet Joseph and he was born about 140 miles east of Palmyra, New York. Parley was born curious about religion. He said to his father one day when he was 18 years old and they were laboring together in the forest:"Father, how is it there is so manifest a difference between the ancient and modern disciples of Jesus Christ and their doctrines? If, for instance, I had lived in the days of the Apostles, and believed in Jesus Christ, and had manifested a wish to become his disciple, Peter or his brethren would have said to me, 'Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for REMISSION OF SINS, and you SHALL receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.' I should then have known definitely and precisely what to do to be saved. "Now, father…I believe in Jesus; I wish to serve him and keep his commandments… How…can I observe the ordinances of God and keep his commandments?"“To these inquiries my father could give no satisfactory answer…I still continued to ponder upon these things, and to search the Scriptures to learn how to be saved.” (Pratt, Parley P. Autobiography of Parley P. Pratt, Revised and Enhanced Edition, edited by Scot Facer Proctor and Maurine Jensen Proctor, Deseret Book Company, Salt Lake City, 2000, pp 10-11.)Parley would not rest until he could discover the right path to the Lord Jesus Christ.

March 31-April 6By the time Section 29 of the Doctrine and Covenants was given, the fledgling Church was just over five months old. Rumors and false claims were circulating faster than convert numbers. What a strategic time for the adversary of all righteousness to attack the young flock and scatter them as fast as he could—to try to stop this little flock from growing.  The Church only had less than 100 members.  Can we even imagine this? Most who are listening to this podcast are from a ward or branch that is bigger than that. My own elder's quorum here in Alpine, Utah has 175 members! But, as we have said in the past, out of small things proceedeth that which is great. The Lord knows how to work with small numbers!

Revelation was still a relatively new concept for the Saints as the Restoration continued to unfold. Early Church members knew that the Prophet Joseph Smith could receive revelation for the Church. But could others? Questions like this became critical when Hiram Page, one of the Eight Witnesses of the gold plates, believed he had received revelations for the Church. Many faithful Saints believed that these revelations were from God. The Lord responded by teaching that in His Church “all things must be done in order” (Doctrine and Covenants 28:13). This week we will learn this story and learn that only the prophet can receive revelation for the church. The scriptures teach that we should put on the “whole armor” of God (see Ephesians 6:11–18 and D&C 27:15–18). When we study the scriptures and pray, it's like we put on armor that helps keep us safe.Helmet of SalvationA helmet protects the head. We keep our mind safe when we follow Jesus and do what He wants us to do.Shield of FaithFaith in Jesus Christ is like a shield of protection. When we believe in Jesus and try to be like Him, we can make good choices, even when things are hard.Breastplate of RighteousnessThe breastplate protects the heart. When we love God with all our heart, we try to keep His commandments. We are blessed when we choose the right.Etc. You're listening to Come Follow Me Kids! A Come Follow Me Podcast. How does understanding the interconnected purposes of the sacrament, as presented in Doctrine & Covenants 27, deepen our appreciation for this sacred ordinance? In this episode Matthew O. Richardson, professor of Church history and doctrine, discusses several key themes and gospel principles related to the ordinance of the sacrament. He presents three specific purposes: remembering the past, specifically the Atonement and Resurrection of Jesus Christ; looking forward to future redemption; and providing safety and protection in the present. Further, he discusses the historical context and symbolism of the sacramental emblems and connects them to putting on the armor of God and illustrates its role in providing spiritual protection. In understanding the symbolism of these emblems, we can enhance our worship experience and foster a closer relationship with the Savior.     Publications:  “Sacramental Connections: Deliverance, Redemption, and Safety (Doctrine & Covenants 27)” originally published in You Shall Have My Word: Exploring the Text of the Doctrine and Covenants (Religious Studies Center, 2012)  “We Have Now Received the Atonement” in Shedding Light on the New Testament: Acts—Revelation (Religious Studies Center, 2009)  “The Savior's Love” in Our Savior's Love: Hope & Healing in Christ (Religious Studies Center, 2015)  “Losing the Sacred Perspective: Social Ethics and Character Development” in Moral Foundations: Standing Firm in a World of Shifting Values (Religious Studies Center, 2008)    Click here to learn more about Matthew O. March 17-23After the sacred gathering of nearly four dozen Saints in the Whitmer Home in Fayette, New York on Tuesday, April 6, 1830, this tiny band was given the commission to take the restored gospel of Jesus Christ to all the world. What an overwhelming task! How could so few bless so many? And yet, the Lord knew who He was calling and what various converts would do. One eager young man, twenty-two-year-old Samuel Harrison Smith, younger brother of the Prophet Joseph, stepped forward and volunteered to start the work. And within 100 days, a remarkable woman was called to give her gifts and talents to the kingdom—Emma Hale Smith.

He began to have doubts and “stagger in confidence” at the amount of debt he was entering into, whose payback would depend entirely on sales of the Book of Mormon. He was a wealthy and respected farmer in Palmyra. He had repented of his sins and become one of the Three Witnesses, but now he was putting up his farm as collateral and everything was at stake. What would he lose if people didn't pay for copies of the Book of Mormon and redeem his debt? Everything! What a trial of his faith.

Message after message is to individuals, some we have heard of like Oliver Cowdery or Hyrum Smith, and some to less familiar people like Leman Copley or Northrop Sweet, but then the Lord often adds this note: What I say unto one, I say unto all.  But if that is not enough to let us know WE count; He gives us these 12 words in our lesson this week: “Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God.”

February 3-9 Just a few months after the 116 manuscript pages of the Book of Lehi were lost, a young man arrived in Manchester, New York.  He had dark brown eyes, a slight build, a prominent lower jaw, high forehead and, as one described, a roman nose.  He was hired to be a teacher in New York's Joint District 11. The small frame schoolhouse was located just about a mile south of the Joseph and Lucy Mack Smith Farm on Stafford Road. In this first teaching job, he had 107 little “scholars.”  Little did he know he would become a teacher for millions yet unborn. His name…was Oliver Cowdery.
