Jack Hennessy has perfected making easy, delicate cuisine with wild game. In this podcast, he shares his methods for cooking delicious venison.
Back at it with another lost episode this week. Forgot to mention in the last episodes notes that we welcome Jack Hennessy to a couple of these lost episodes. So again this was taped last year during the Covid 19 Lockdown. In essence this podcast only came together because of the lockdowns. Enjoy Bash at the Beach 1996. Today we welcome J Brian Hennessy. J. Brian is a human who is passionate about all that he is “born to BE” passionate about. And he knows how enormously lucky he is; and with that luck incredibly grateful to be living with intention his ever-evolving TruSelf and TruPurpose through his natural gifts and dispositions; and to know the social, even moral, responsibility that comes with that knowing and doing-as-BEing. And it just so happens that this luck emerged through his parents as role-models; and not just through their DNA as YOUnique individuals, but through the expression of that destined-to-thrive matrix of innate gifts and dispositions within both Pat & Jack Hennessy as partners, educators, disruptive entrepreneurs, and visionary’s. Brian’s Mother, Pat Hennessy, created the first special education curriculum in the USA in 1946-7; and because of Brian’s rather hyper nature, is the reason he is most likely still with us, or not in jail, etc… Pat Hennessy knew exactly what to do with Brian’s bountiful hyper-kinesis. Later, in 1968, with her husband and business partner Jack, Pat came up with the idea of selling restaurant supply products retail. Creating the first wholesale-to-retail food stores in the USA. Since then Brian has lived “boots on the ground” within 12 start-ups with a startup success rate batting avg of .333, which, if you know this sector, ain’t too shabby. Since 2009 Brian has been an evangelist for the coming “Human Singularity,” which he believes will unfold around 2050. Prior to this Brian predicted the emergence of social media, search engines, and various emergent industries as documented in a 1989 Vision-of-Visions titled: G.E.T.TheVision, or Global Evolutionary Technologies, the Vision. Why a 60 year plan? Well, Brian realized, after years of bagging his entrepreneurial and research head against the existing paradigms, that his own Life’s work and Purpose was at least 35-40 years away from making sense to the market. Aha! So, he created a products/services evolution-roadmap for what he believed would come to market BEFORE his own life’s work could. Brian’s innate matrix of gifts and dispositions, as it turns out, is to help other’s discover, value, consciously develop, and live theirs; and in parallel discover, and live their Purpose founded upon that ever-evolving personal YOUniqueness… and from this next generation of Human experience, begin to manifest the fullest, positive synergistic connections with other’s… to help pro-create the blossoming of those waiting-to-thrive synergetics of humanity as a whole – the HumanSingularity. The magic in this conversation is that we explore so many elements of the self including: - isolation and awareness - moment's of 'ah ha' 'hahahahaha' and 'ahhhhhh'; the tenants of insight, laughter, and release - Fear of failure at being your truest self is what blocks - Learn to say the words “You got to ask yourself.” - Then ask yourself…”What comes to you without effort?” - Pay attention to your effortless gifts – value comes from noticing your FLOW! This is where you thrive and flourish and live into your fullest potential. - Readiness is real – state of readiness is so important for the investment of your time; emotional, neuropsycological, biological readiness - Coming to the space of “I’m ready” means letting go of ‘wasted time’. A guide for those interested in hearing more about fishing and other paths to eating more responsibly. Now here's your host, Mark Norquist. Mark: 00:23 Hey everyone. Welcome to episode number eight of Modern Carnivore Podcast. Mark: 00:30 Today we're going to talk about Wilderness areas. And more specifically, we're going to take you to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, which is the most threatened Wilderness in the U.S. So before we get into that, let's do a little background on what we mean by wilderness with a capital w. The Wilderness Act was signed into law by President Lyndon B Johnson in 1964 and it created the National Wilderness Preservation System and it also put a legal definition around the term Wilderness. One of the primary authors of this act, Howard Zahniser, uh, defined it this way, "A Wilderness, in contrast with those areas where man and his own works dominate the landscape is hereby recognized as an area where the earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man, where man himself is a visitor who does not remain. BWCAW Hunting and Fishing Mark: 01:43 It's really protective overlay that's applied to certain areas in our country; certain areas of public lands. They could be national forest parks, wildlife refuges, any number of different places. Um, one of the criticisms that has been made in the past about it is the reference to quote man himself as is a visitor who does not remain. But I think that's the critical element of it and why it is really unique. So if you think about it, there are very few places where there are no buildings, no roads, no machines, and the only really semi-permanent structures I can think of would be these throne toilets. Basically a seat to sit on and do your business and the fire grades to control where you, where you do fires. And that's specific to the Boundary Waters where we're at today. And I think that's a pretty special thing in something that is, that is needed in this world. Mark: 02:52

Now, here's your host, Mark Norquist. Mark: 00:21 Hello and welcome to this third episode of the Modern Carnivore Podcast. I recently caught up with Land Tawny and Ashley Peters when I was down in Bentonville, Arkansas. Land is the President and CEO of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, a conservation organization focused on public land issues. And Ashley is both a member out of the Minnesota chapter of that organization. Uh, but most importantly she is a new hunter. Just started hunting a couple of years ago. So today's podcast, we talk about public lands and threats to them. And this is important because I think a lot of people don't realize that public lands in the US are truly the backbone of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. And without getting into too much detail here, this model was formally articulated, to be honest just in the last couple of decades, but it's built off the attitudes in work of many people in the hunting and fishing community, going way back to the nineteenth century, there are seven tenants to it and the seventh one is about the democracy of hunting, which is really based on inspiration from the work that Ted...
In this second episode of the Modern Carnivore podcast I sit down with Robyn Migliorini who is a vegan turned hunter. Robyn and her husband Nick were strict vegetarians, and then vegans, until their bodies started giving feedback indicating that they weren't getting all the nutrients they needed in their diet. However, considering the idea of bringing meat back into their diet was difficult because they originally became vegetarians in part due to all the problems with "factory farming". As a result they started exploring the idea of becoming hunters and responsibly sourcing meat themselves. Robyn's story is very engaging and her perspectives and thoughtful considerations can be appreciated by all. Now, here's your host, Mark Norquist. Mark: 00:26 Hello everyone. My name is Mark Norquist. I am your host for the Modern Carnivore podcast and I'd like to welcome you to this first episode of...our podcast. Really excited about launching this and sharing with you the conversations and interviews we've had with some really interesting people and a lot that we have coming up as many that are known and some that we'll figure it out as we go forward. People like Robyn Migliorini, Robyn grew up in Boston. She was a Vegan, started backpacking in college and eventually transitioned into becoming a hunter and was self taught. She and her husband really figured it out by watching YouTube videos and other things to really familiarize themselves with hunting. So I've got a great conversation with Robyn where she shares this journey into the world of hunting. We've also got a, an interview with Land Tawny. Land is the president and CEO of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, which if you're not familiar with it, is an organization that is fighting to keep public lands in public hands. The whole public lands issue is becoming really interesting in last few years politically on a national level, and if you're getting into hunting and other outdoor activities, whether it's camping, hiking, or what have you, you're going to want to hear that episode and understand what's at stake and what organizations like it are doing. Land is a Montana native and has really dedicated his entire career to conservation.
