Welcome back to LIKEITORNOT & our infamous ROADHOUSE Editions! This one took place last week, in true ROADHOUSE fashion, when Leo and I met up for the tote bags and to do a little episode on our collab. It was the same night QJ was dj'n for Bxmmer at JAZZBONES for the Aaron Carter show, no cap. We'd been lounging in the Flea all day, taking care of other business, when Baloogz aka SPLASH himself, rolls up at closing time with slushies, sandals & sunglasses, and NO I.D.! The man had no true destination so I invited him to sit down with us for a quick episode. What ensued was history. I learned about a 3am gyro spot on 6th Ave but haven't seen if it's tru yet. I talk about GYRO ZONE cause it's the best and we play the whole GIMME INDIE ROCK album by Matson, Khris P & Glenn, also engineered by Splash. We show love to TBG & Domestic Terrorizm 2 & Baloogz delves in to some behind the scenes stuff about he and Perry Porters forthcoming album that is truly highly anticipated. We talk about Scotty Hyp and the Fletch Lives mixtape and all the heavy hitters on there and s/o the man himself, Awall aka 2piece and BLOCKREPP, as a whole. We talk about Outpost Sandwiches again and may other tidbits of info you don't want to miss, LIKEITORNOT, thank y'all for tuning in and sticking with us!
LIKEITORNOT is back with a brand new episode! Dropping on a day like today is heavy, to say the least, but the show must go on. With that being said, RIP to the legend and one and only, DMX. Also, Happy Birthday to one of my brothers from another, Matt 'Tuell Time' Tuell, NO YOU! The guys are back from a week off in the studio to deliver some freshly drunk but smoothly controlled content about a number of things, mainly, Neverheard Tacoma's inaugural Sixth Avenue Flea Market, which takes place this weekend April 10th & 11th at the Alleycat Patio & Lounge, The Flea & Jazzbones. There will be live music and over 20 vendors, all ready to display their vintage clothes, art & jewelry. We also touch on Isaiah Thomas' new NBA contract w/ New Orleans, provide insight on the Baylor/Gonzaga game, and lots of other pertinent information you need to be up on as a PNW resident. ENUMCLAW releases FREE DROP BILLY, the song which closes out the episode, & we talk about Pint Defiance's existence in Tacoma as the premier place to grab your to go beers. PSA-S/O to the delicious Half Pint pepperoni pizza we were eating** I also end up getting a little descriptive about our past episode w/ Andrew Matson & Mike Ramos, when Umi and I hosted them in a ski Cabaret in SODO & how I felt like I had to be super on point since Vonna B was in the building! An all around informative and funny ass episode where Baloogz ends up falling asleep, LIKEITORNOT, a true must listen. Thank you again to all of our supporters and listeners! We are nothing without y'all.

This time the group talks with Jeremey Tate, host of the Grown Men Watch This S* * *? podcast. He also manages the hilarious @jaimsVanDerBeek Twitter account. He talks about the wresting company Without a Cause, Justin talks about wresting that happens at the Temple Theater, and Jeremey talks about the huge crowd involvement at the event. Conversation then goes to Jeremey's Twitter parody account, what was the trigger to the popularity of it, and his most recent event that blew up on Twitter. Thanks to Jeremey for joining the podcast and thanks Michelle for stepping into cohost! Special Guests: Jeremey Tate and Michelle R..
This week we talk to Isaac Olsen and Justin Peterson about thier new project: Walk, Don't Run: The Story of The Ventures. A documentary about the surf-rock band and rock and roll hall of famers, The Ventures. Justin started fliming the project almost 10 years ago and recently reconnected with Isaac to pull the film into a cohesive project. Who are The Ventures? Here's the answer right from their Kickstarter page: The Ventures were founded in Tacoma, Washington by Don Wilson and Bob Bogle in 1958 when they met at a used car lot. Nokie Edwards on guitar, Mel Taylor on drums, and later Gerry McGee on guitar rounded out the classic Ventures lineup. They were wildly successful during the 60's and constantly re-invented themselves, surviving the tumultuous, ever-changing rock landscape through the 70's, 80's, and 90's. They maintain an almost parallel-universe type career in Japan, where they are bigger than Elvis. The term, 'big in Japan' may have originated with the mania surrounding them, which really got going in 1965. The Ventures are the biggest instrumental band in the world and this aims to be their first feature length, comprehensive documentary. They are funding through Kickstarter through the end of May. Stop by and check it out at: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/walkdontrunfilm/walk-dont-run-the-story-of-the-ventures 1:25 – The guys discuss Justin's food recovery, Justin lets listeners how know they can support GCP through Patreon, and the Isaac shares that Semi Iconic will be playing in Venus Beach at The Fine Arts Festival. Justin gives props to Justin P on his love for The Valley, Justin P talks about what it's like to run multiple restaurants in Tacoma, and Isaac explains who the instrumental group ‘The Ventures' are. Justin talks about the kick starter that's out for the Justin P and Isaac's documentary ‘Walk, Don't Run: The Story of The Ventures' and they share how they ended up putting the documentary together. 16:52 – Justin P talks about teaming with the Haggerty Brothers to start interviewing people with the band, how Teddy Haggerty was the stand in for Alec Baldwin in Beetlejuice, and Teddy being the person that did the art design of Jazzbones remodel. He talks about what got him started with the record label, traveling all over the US and Japan with The Ventures, and what it was like visiting Japan. 34:53 – Isaac talks about the art they offer to Kickstarter people that do a $50 backing, the benefits of Kickstarter, and the different levels they offer. Justin P talks about the guitars offered in certain tiers, Justin talks about Alice In Chains new video, and they chat about Hologram Zeplin. Justin P talks about the people that run their social media, their want to keep the project slightly secret, and the licensing issues they've run into during production. He shares the local collaborators he works with, and the different clubs showing up in Tacoma. 53:48 – Isaac shares his love to make movies that inspire people to visit the PNW, how people can help them on Kickstarter, and encourages people to share it on social media. Justin P talks about being star struck when interviewing Billy Bob Thornton, GCP guys talk about their upcoming Boot to Boot happening in Tacoma in June on the Live Scooters, and Justin shares where listeners can find Walk Don't Run online. Thanks Justin P and Isaac for joining the guys for a great conversation and sharing how people can help support Walk Don't Run! Special Guests: Isaac Olsen and Justin Peterson.
In this round, we have another frat party song, an early effort from a very weird genius, some wildly obnoxious shrieking, and a surprisingly catchy song from a very bad movie. Also, you get Amanda and Rich freaking out at Will for mispronouncing "Live," one of the most hilariously insulting reviews any of us has ever heard, a surprise guest appearance by Will's cat, and a lengthy and irrelevant side discussion about The Big Lebowski. NOTE: Amanda mistakenly said there's not much live music in Tacoma these days. This was very stupid. There is great live music in Tacoma, particularly at Jazzbones on 6th Avenue. Go there, you won't regret it. Get early access to bonus episodes at patreon.com/discordpod. On this week’s episode of SMI Radio, I catch up with Unsigned Only’s Ben Short to gain more insight to how UO works, how it got started, and the unique opportunity that it offers unsigned, emerging artists. You will also hear some tracks from past UO winners, Lara Johnston and Laura Steel. UO is still accepting song entries. Contestants interested in submitting songs for the competition can do so here. Specific days and runtimes of this week’s episode are available by scrolling down… In the second half of the show, Tacoma native Vicci Martinez is back on SMI Radio. Vicci dials in from the road, as she makes her way back to to the Northwest to play several dates, which include a show in Bellingham on Thursday, May 14 and a special St. Patty’s Day show on Sunday, March 17 at her old stomping grounds, Jazzbones in Tacoma. Tickets for that show are available here. Vicci is also in town to make her first video, which will include several friends and associates as extras. She’ll drop some hints on the concept of the video. Her single, Come Along, which she recorded with Cee Lo Green, has gotten a second life, thanks to her constant touring and radio airplay. You can get it on iTunes, Amazon.com and Bandcamp. Although Vicci has been spending the last couple years in LA, based on our conversation, her heart still remains in the Northwest.
On this week’s episode of SMI Radio you will hear my backstage conversation with Vicci that took place after her performance at Music Matters “Live.” We spoke about the evolution of her music following a very successful showing on NBC’s The Voice. Her strong performance in front of a national TV audience helped her gain a national fan base and land a deal on a major label. In addition to our conversation, you will hear some selected tracks off of her newest EP as well as some favorites from her Live at Jazzbones disc. In the second half of the show is a lost interview with Perry Acker’s Pete Johnson prior to their record release show this past fall. You will also hear selected cuts from their most recent effort, Path to Freedom.
