This week, an interview we just conducted with Madeleine Wattenbarger and Axel Hernández of the Cooperativa de Periodismo in Mexico and Ambar Ruiz of Radio Zapote about the case of autonomous resistance and repression in the Mazateca community of Eloxochitlán de Flores Magón in Oaxaca, Mexico, so named for being the birthplace of the Cipriano Ricardo Flores Magón, revolutionary Mexican anarchist who was murdered by medical neglect by the US prison system in 1922 (check out our 2022 episode on the history). We talk about the rise to economic and political power of the family of Manuel Zepeda and his daughter Elena, their weaponization of the judiciary against community defenders resisting a hijacking in 2014 of the traditional community assembly and the years of organizing by Mazateca women whose loved ones face long prison sentences. We also speak about the case of Miguel Peralta, a Mazateca anarchist challenging his 5 decade sentence related to this case, as well as the recent murder by medical neglect while in prison of militant anarcho-punk Yorch Esquivel at the hands of the Mexican state at the behest of UNAM. He's still lacking access to an ADA-accessible bathroom and shower unit and has not had his property or commissary card returned. According to his supporters, Xinachtli is still experiencing weakness in his legs and has now been forced back into a completely inaccessible space, where he faces a serious risk of another life-threatening fall or injury. Xinachtli's supporters demand remains: Xinachtli must be moved out of McConnell into an ADA-accessible facility that can address his medical needs. McConnell has already proven it can't and won't provide adequate resources to care for Xinachtli in his current state. They are putting his life in danger. Revolutionary Jamil Al-Amin, formerly known as H. Rap Brown, returned to the ancestors on November 23, 2025 after 25 years in federal prison. The Imam was convicted in 2002 for the murder of a sheriff's deputy and Al-Amin continued to be incarcerated despite the video-taped confession of another man with the means and the motivation for the killing. Also, Dario Sanchez's state trial is set for 1/12 in Johnson County. This is not a lot of time! We're calling on supporters everywhere to do everything you can to help the defendants get the best defense possible. Meet me down by the river and tell me a secret beyond anything that I know. That's what water does. Jessica Reznicek loves the rivers and ravines of Iowa and tried to protect them. She tried to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline and was taken from her water and but not taken from her love of Iowa flowing water. Now she's out of prison but monitored, and -- back swimming again like she remembers from her childhood. Jessica, that "Meet me..." quote is from Mariam Makeba's beautiful song here in this Earth Riot. Welcome back - we are so grateful. We sent you a message from Leonard Peltier did you get it?

This week on the show, we're airing two portions. Support Jessica Reznicek [00:02:06 - 00:36:33] First up, Charlotte speaks about their friend, political prisoner and water defender Jessica Reznicek who just had an appeal denied of an 8 year sentence and terrorism enhancement for sabotaging the Dakota Access Pipeline with another Catholic Worker prior to DAPL. carrying oil. It's estimated that the two cost $6 million in lost profits to Energy Transfer Partners and stopped the flow of 30 million barrels of oil. For the hour we talk about #NoDAPL, the movements that Jessica was involved in, including Occupy and the Catholic Workers, the increased criminalization of dissent as the climate heats up and how to support Jessica and spread the good work. You can learn more about Jess and her case at SupportJessicaReznicek.com and you can purchase benefit t-shirts here: https://www.eaglescreenprint.com/shop/p/free-jessica-reznicek-tee Navigating Conflict In Movement [00:37:52 - end] Then, we do something a little experimental. We present a conversation with a member of an anti-authoritarian movement in Europe. We don't say what movement. We talk about conflict internal to their movement, but we don't name the parties involved. The conversation was conducted from an anti-authoritarian perspective, in the interest of creating heterogeneous communities of struggle. The purpose of this recording is to promote a mental exercise on the part of the listener to plug in their own experiences in movements with many different trajectories inside of it. The anonymous nature of the conversation was in part to not contribute to internal conflict to the movement, conflict is better addressed between parties involved than with an outside party (our radio show) who's interest may not be the same as the movement. I hope that this conversation is helpful, for all of it's purposeful vagueness. This originally aired in 2017. . ... . .. On July 24, 2017, Jessica Reznicek admitted to engaging in acts of sabotage to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline, a 1,886 km long (1,172 miles) underground oil pipeline running through indigenous territories, crossing beneath the Missouri and Mississippi rivers, as well as under part of Lake Oahe near the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. Her actions resulted in 4-month delay in pipeline construction. Despite the fact that the pipelines were not running at the time so there was no chance of a spill and no one was hurt during the acts of sabotage U.S. federal Judge Rebecca Goodgame Ebinger later applied a domestic terrorism enhancement to Jessica's sentences doubling her prison term to 8 years locked up, followed by 3 years supervised probation. Last week, Reznicek's attorneys argued an appeal that the district court had inappropriately decided that her actions constituted a federal crime of terrorism. They are now awaiting a decision concerning the appeal. I have been following this case for a couple of years now and to get to highlight it again was important to me, especially now with the looming decision in regards to the appeal. In the past ten years, we've also seen state repression of movements coming out of Occupy Wall Street, the Ferguson uprising, Standing Rock, Line 3 and various anti-Trump movements. Green and Red has had numerous episodes on radical movements and state repression of political movements from antifascists in Portland and Austin to water protectors at Line 3 to DAPL saboteur Jessica Reznicek. But, before that, we had the era known as the "Green Scare," where radical environmental and animal rights activists were targeted by the "state" (corporations, politicians, law enforcement) for its anti-capitalist politics and escalating tactics that included sabotage, animal liberation, property destruction and arson. The FBI called their operation to stop these radical movements “Operation Backfire.” After 911, they labeled people taking action "domestic terrorists." Congress passed corporate lobbyist written legislation, such as the Animal Enterprise Terror Act and the Patriot Act, to stop them. In our latest episode, we talk with Daniel McGowan (@thetinyraccoon), an anarchist organizer, Earth Liberation Front (ELF) member and partisan during the Green Scare era. He was part of two ELF actions in 2001. After another ELF member turned informant, he was arrested by the FBI and charged with arson, property destruction and conspiracy. In June, 2007, McGowan was sentenced to seven years in federal prison and given a "terror enhancement" for his actions. Most of his time in prison was spent in a secret prison unit called a Communication Management Unit. Daniel tells us about his journey as a radical environmentalist, actions with the ELF, time in federal prison and, now, supporter of political prisoners. Daniel McGowan is a former political prisoner and former member of the Earth Liberation Front (ELF). He spent 48 months in experimental Communication Management Units operated by the federal Bureau of Prisons during his seven year sentence. Daniel has been involved with political prisoner support and prison struggles for most of his activist life. He is currently a member of the Certain Days collective, NYC Books Through Bars and the Anarchist Black Cross Federation (ABCF). Daniel works on the campaign to defend and free anarchist political prisoner Eric King and is an advisory board member of the Civil Liberties Defense Center (CLDC) & the Coalition for Civil Freedoms. Daniel is a lifelong New Yorker and grew up in Far Rockaway, Queens, NYC. He works professionally as a paralegal and consults with people preparing to go to prison and their family & friends in setting up defense committees. --------------------------------------- Outro// Catharsis "Arsonist's Prayer" Links// Daniel's Linktree: https://linktr.ee/tinyraccoon G&R: Dakota Access Pipeline Saboteur Jessica Reznicek Sentenced to Prison (https://bit.ly/FreeJessRGandR) G&R: The Story of SHAC (https://bit.ly/StorySHACGandR) Follow Green and Red// https://linktr.ee/greenandredpodcast Check out our new website: https://greenandredpodcast.org/ Join our Discord Party: https://bit.ly/36hqx7X Donate to Green and Red Podcast// Become a recurring donor at https://www.patreon.com/greenredpodcast Or make a one time donation here: https://bit.ly/DonateGandR This is a Green and Red Podcast (@PodcastGreenRed) production. Bush, the rehabilitation campaign that Bush is going on, and the importance of highlighting the crimes committed by the Bush administration. In the second segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Monty Pinger, campaign organizer with the Free Jessica Reznicek Campaign to discuss the prosecution of Jessica Reznicek, a water protector involved with the movement against the Dakota Access Pipeline, the court's protection of corporate profits in this case and in that of cases like Steven Donziger and other activists, and the threat of further targeting of activists. In the third segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by independent journalist, writer and researcher Denis Rogatyuk to discuss the parliamentary elections in Russia, the intricacies of the campaign and political system that contributed to the drop in support for Vladimir Putin's party, and what the Communist Party's surge in support means for Russian politics.Later in the show, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Daryle Lamont Jenkins, Executive Director of One People's Project to discuss the Biden administration's record detention of immigrants, how this fact exposes the false illusion of the two party system, the underwhelming “Justice for J6” rally at the Capitol and the rise of overt white supremacy in recent years, and how the capitalist system enables fascism.

Lee Camp interviews Monty Pinger. He is one of the lead organizers of the campaign to free the climate activist Jessica Reznicek. Reznicek had admitted to destroying pipeline equipment being used to build the Dakota Access Pipeline. She committed her act of nonviolent civil disobedience in order to protect the land and water from industrial pollution and to stand in solidarity with the NODAPL resistance camps. She received an eight-year sentence under terrorism charges, in a chilling sign for the future of resistance to the fossil fuel industry. Naomi Karavani reports on Walmart's response to its inability to find enough workers. In the wake of the covid pandemic the corporate media focused on a "labor shortage" narrative that blamed unemployment benefits for workers' hesitance to return to low-wage jobs. Their narrative tried to hide that workers just didn't want to work for low wages. Well-paying jobs weren't generating the same labor issues, and now Walmart's owners have taken several, weak, steps to try to attract workers back into their soul-destroying stores.

Jessica Reznicek is a land and water defender who worked with the Catholic Worker Community in Des Moines, IA. In 2016, she began to organize against the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline in Iowa. When the regulatory, political and even civil disobedience channels didn't work, she concluded the system was broken. Then, she, and a fellow Catholic Worker, began to disable construction machinery along the pipeline route. No one was injured by their actions, and the land was protected from the flow of oil for an additional six months. Months after that, she and her collaborator publicly confessed to their sabotage actions. In February, Jessica pleaded guilty to one count of Conspiracy to Damage an Energy Facility. In June, the court designated her a "terrorist" and sentenced her to eight years in prison. We speak with Alex Cohen of the Free Jessica team (@FreeJessRez). Alex is a climate justice organizer and rabble rouser. Whistleblower Daniel Hale was sentenced to nearly 4 years in prison today - for the vicious crime of divulging war crimes. Just last week, water protector Jessica Reznicek was sentenced to 8 years in prison - for demanding a livable future. As Snowden said, "when exposing a crime is treated as committing a crime, you are being ruled by criminals." Meanwhile, here's a little good news from the frontlines of Line 3 and a few musings on the potential of sports.   radindiemedia.com liberapay.com/leecamp
