Current Events Seahawks: Did we mention Bobby Wagner re-signed with the Seahawks? That gives them 5 future HoFers on the squadHuskies corner! Did we say Keion Brooks Jr. was leaving UW next year? No we didn't. He's coming back! He was celebrated at Senior Night so we all assumed he was gone. We were wrong. Huskies still have 4 scholarship spots available, the Tyee Club should spread some NIL money aroundThe Masters: Seattle Native, who grew up playing Jefferson Golf Course, made history as the oldest player to make the cut at the mastersStorm select Jordan Horston out of Tennessee; average 16 points; 7 rebs; 3 assists; and 2 steals in 27 mins per game... 20 pts a game and close to 10 rebs if given Caitlin Clark Mins)What's Kraken!? The Kraken clinched their first playoff berth in the franchise's storied history last Thursday with a dominant win over the Arizona Coyotes at home. My brother got to ride the zamboni before the game and I got to witness it. | There were multiple fights during the game and it was clear the Coyotes weren't trying to win so much as they were trying to hurt the Kraken. One guy took off his skate and tried to stab somebody (Happy Gilmore reference) | The Kraken played the Coyotes again and beat them handily, again. Played Vegas on Tuesday night and lost. Could have overtaken the Kings for the 3-spot in the Pacific Division. Final game of the season is Thursday night at home against the Golden Knights | While you're at it, look up the Coyotes home stadium. The phrase "poverty franchise" gets thrown around a lot on the internet by sports fans trolling their rivals, but the Coyotes embody that to their core. | Main Event | The Seattle Mariners are kind of good and kind of bad. | First, a recap. They won their series in Cleveland over the weekend but did not sweep. They went 3-4 vs the Guardians and don't play them again this season...so they lose that tiebreaker when it comes time for playoff seeding/homefield. | They didn't sweep because they lost a 12 inning game on Sunday. They took a 6-5 lead in top12 but Murfee started the bottom 12th IBBing Jose Ramirez, the winning run, and then throwing a wild pickoff that let both runners advance. One basehit later, the game was over. | Now they're at Wrigley and lost a heartbreaker, coughing up a 7-0 lead and eventually losing 14-9. | - 0-3 in extra innings this year. | - 1-4 in games that were decided by one run OR went to extra innings. They were 36-24 is those games last year and it pretty much made the entire difference in their season.. | - Why the regression? Well, to start with the relievers are either pitching poorly or injured. Andres Munoz is the latest pitcher to hit the IL with shoulder stiffness. There is no hard diagnosis, so it's unlikely he misses significant time but the Sonoran Smoke was crucial to our success last year. | - Logan Gilbert also had a sketchy outing in Cleveland over the weekend. He threw 81 pitches through 4+ innings and got taken out when it was apparent he'd lost significant control and velocity. His FB, regularly sitting 95-97, was in the low 90s. Per USS Mariner Marc on twitter, Gilbert had 1 FB last year at or below 92. He's not on the IL but did we mention midway through last year he was leading the league in pitches thrown? Concerning. | - Now for the good part! France, Suarez and Raleigh are one of the best triple threats in the league right now. France and Suarez particularly are tearing it up, batting .330/.370/.480 combined. Raleigh is batting 30 points higher BA than he did last year, and it's | not even the elimination of the shift that's doing it. He's hitting it the opposite field 32% of the time vs 22% last year. His soft contact % is up significantly but that will likely correct itself during the course of the season. Th
