But it beats the alternative. There are 12 teams with playoff spots right now, 10 teams whose seasons are over and eight teams with a second chance. The play-in tournament starts Tuesday, with Atlanta going to Miami and Minnesota visiting the Los Angeles Lakers. The winners of those games will be going to the postseason. Detroit closed its fourth straight season and 12th in 14 years without a postseason appearance on Sunday with a lopsided loss at Chicago. After finishing an NBA-worst 17-65, Dwane Casey announced he was stepping down with one year left on his coaching contract to accept a role in the Troy Weaver-led front office. Casey was hired by the Pistons in 2018 as the reigning NBA Coach of the Year led them to the playoffs in his first season with the franchise. WNBA – WNBA adding charter flights for playoffs, back-to-back games The WNBA is adding charter flights for the entire playoffs and back-to-back regular season games this year. The league announced Monday it will pay for all of the flights. The cost is expected to be around $4.5 million, according to a person familiar with the negotiations. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because details haven’t been publicly released. The league chartered for the WNBA Finals as well as for the road team in the Commissioner Cup championship game last year. As for Brittney Griner, the WNBA says it has plans for her travel but would like to keep them "confidential." WNBA – Boston heads to Fever as No. 1 pick in WNBA draft Aliyah Boston is the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft, going to the Indiana Fever. It’s the first time that the Fever have had the top choice in the draft and they chose the South Carolina star. Boston, a three-time AP All-American who also was the Player of the Year as a junior, will solidify the post for Indiana. The Fever had the worst record in the league last season, going 5-31. Boston was one of four South Carolina players expected to be taken in the first two rounds of the draft. Minnesota took Diamond Miller with the No. 2 pick and Dallas drafted Maddy Siegrist with the third pick. NCAAMBB – Michigan State guard Tyson Walker returning for 5th season Michigan State standout Tyson Walker is returning for his fifth season. Walker announced his decision Monday with an Instagram post, giving a boost to coach Tom Izzo’s chances of contending for a title. The 6-foot-1 guard averaged a team-high 14.8 points and ranked second with nearly three assists per game. Walker attended Northeastern for two years before transferring and playing for the Spartans the past two seasons. He is eligible for a fifth season because the NCAA granted college athletes an extra year if they were enrolled two years ago when the COVID-19 pandemic began. (58:42-1:17:11) The Cuz and Choonis go right back to the phones to talk to the city about the Sixers before they have a conversation about Tyrese Maxey's struggles. On this week's episode, we first broke the news that Allison is the recipient of a Fulbright award for an English Teaching Assistantship in Greece this Fall. Congratulations, Allison! Inspired by Reddit users once again, the crew talked about everyday items that are basically useless and their behavior after enduring a sudden episode of pain. The mind bender featured MLB-themed trivia, in honor of opening day. Did David remember the 2015 opening day Phils' lineup? Our special guest, Kat Collins, a Civil Engineering major and the Director of Live Entertainment in Campus Activities Team's Department of Late Night Programming, previewed the Battle of the Bands happening at the Oreo Friday Night. Sports featured a full MLB preview, and we gave Maddy Siegrist and the Villanova Women's Basketball team one final salute for their outstanding season! The Morning Roar will be on hiatus for Easter break next Friday - have a wonderful Easter and we'll see you again on April 14.
Today's episode was much longer, and for good reason. I'll discuss Providence officially introducing their new head basketball coaches at Alumni Hall and WNBA mock drafts as Maddy Siegrist officially declared for the WNBA Draft earlier this week!
Friday was eventful for the Big East as Villanova WBB ALMOST pulled off a comeback for the ages before falling short in what seemed to be Maddy Siegrist's final college game while Creighton MBB beat Princeton to advance to their first Elite Eight in program history (1941 doesn't count.) I'll recap that, as well as Xavier's loss to Texas, and preview today's games as both UConn teams are in action with the women facing Ohio State in the Sweet 16 in Seattle and the men facing Gonzaga in Vegas for the right to go to the Final Four!
The crew delivered another action packed episode of the Morning Roar. We had a juicy Twitter poll question, asking you which host's saga you found most compelling? Allison went into details of her efforts as WXVU Station Manager to get the station played in the Connelly Center! The crew also discussed silly things they believed when they were younger, and kicked around which restaurant they'd most likely to be seen at after escaping from jail. IHOP, indeed, is a candidate. The mind bender featured some March Madness trivia! Yes, Dom may have gotten some cupcakes this time around, but did David remember Scottie Reynolds' floater in 2009? Our guests at 8:30 were Simran Mishra, a sophomore Finance and Management Information Systems major, who is the VISO (Villanova International Student Organization Senator), and Marisa Somich, Villanova's Student Involvement Advisor, who came by to discuss the Holi festival happening at the Oreo on Sunday. And last but not least, at 8:45, we were joined by our broadcast crew of Jacob Artz and Zac Tipton, live from Greenville, SC! The guys gave us an excellent breakdown of the Villanova-Miami Sweet 16 NCAA Tournament matchup, the first time the women's team has made the Sweet 16 since 2003. They also discussed Maddy Siegrist's place in Villanova basketball history, and detailed their experience of calling women's games for WXVU this historic season.

The Villanova University women's basketball team is getting ready for the NCAA Tournament. The 28-6 Wildcats are a #4 seed and they will open things up at home against 30-4 Cleveland State on Saturday at Finneran Pavilion. On this bonus episode of “1-on-1 with Matt Leon,” Matt speaks with Villanova head coach Denise Dillon to talk about her team's success, the incredible play of senior Maddy Siegrist and what she expects against Cleveland State. The Villanova Wildcats got an early Christmas present, as they were able to hang on for a one-point upset victory over the visiting Kansas Jayhawks. It was a back-and-forth game, and while 'Nova was able to hit the big shots in crucial moments, its defensive effort is what stole the show.
