"Darkseid and Sons" in New Gods #11 is yet another astonishing volume of Jack Kirby's masterwork. It deepens our knowledge of Darkseid's tragic past, explores the deep sibling rivalry between Orion and Kalibak and shows the devastating effects of his massive battles on Orion's anger. It's a way better comic than both Amir and Jason expected, and a fascinating conclusion to Kirby's original run on this epochal series. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/classiccomics/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/classiccomics/support

Team Titans #4 (1992)TEAM TITANS is a superhero team held up by the premise that Donna Troy’s son put chemical additives in our food around the turn of the century and made us all dummies so that we’d accept his genocide campaign. Sounds terrible but on the bright side, this gimmick stuff gave kids superpowers and, in a ploy to stop this tragedy from happening, travelled back in time to start a rock band in SoHo. We also get the love child of Kalibak and former World Champion Sheamus threatening a muscular 10yr old in the MoMa. Thank goodness for ZERO HOUR cleaning this all up for us.Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter @angryheroshawn and @JenStansfield and email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.com

It's that time again, time to grab your mp3 players and download the latest episode of Just One of the Guys. Or you can just stream it from the Two True Freaks website, either way works for me, and they pay is the same either way as well. This time out, our Green Lantern book continues the "Emerald Knights" storyline where a time-displaced Hal Jordan meets up with John Stewart and Guy Gardner (his two replacements that he hasn't yet met), seeks out Tom Kalmaku and Carol Ferris (his two best friends who thought him dead), and has an unnecessary tussle with Kalibak. Seriously, I swear all this character has been used for is a couple of one shot stories where he poses a minor threat to the Green Lantern, gets his butt SOUNDLY kicked, then limps back to Apokolips where he will inevitably get berated and belittled by his father, Darkseid. Our second book this time out is a three part special dealing with Kyle, Alan Scott, and Jenny Lynn Hayden entitled "Green Lantern/Sentinel: Heart of Darkness". If you remember in issue 96, Jade was pulled through a weird portal that appeared in Kyle's apartment, and now it's up to Kyle and Alan to track Jade down. And the first place the emerald allies search is a private asylum where Alan is keeping a near comatose Hank King Jr (a.k.a. Brainwave Jr.) captive after his mental breakdown. But BJ (hee-hee) isn't as out of it as our heroes would believe as he warps reality to trick and trap our heroes. Plus there's a cliffhanger appearance from another member of Infinity Inc., so this show could practically be a sister show of Tales of the Justice Society of America! Yeah, I'm certain Scott would love to have that happen. But the show won't listen to itself, so what are you waiting for? Download it now!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Happy Valentine's Day, dear listeners, and welcome back to this romantic episode of Just One of the Guys. Okay, maybe it's not so romantic, but today we are covering two issues that I really love. First off, there's Green Lantern #101, where the blast from the past Hal Jordan decides to take a trip to his home town of Coast City to meet up with some friends and family...ummmm, awkward! One would think seeing his home wiped from the face of the Earth would really mess our emerald hero up, but what actually happens is incredibly poignant and surprising. Plus the artwork by Jeff Johnson is gorgeous and completely sells the drama in the book. And as a special treat, the second book is an issue of Power of Shazam (number 41 to be precise) that features our two Lanterns coming to the aid of the Marvel family as they take on the horrible, yet incredibly cute Mr Mind in the final part of "The Monster Society of Evil" story, penned by none other than Jerry "The Extraordinary" Ordway. And the crappy version of the Teen Titans are there as well, for some reason. But don't worry about being confused by jumping into the book in the last chapter, because J. David Weter (Dave's Daredevil Podcast, Starman Observatory, and PADSmash, An Incredible Hulk Podcast) has come aboard to recap and synopsize the story. So if for some reason you haven't got something special for the love of your life, give the gift of Just One of the Guys, the one thing that truly shows how much you love them*. *Just One of the Guys does not officially endorse the idea of giving podcasts as Valentine's Day gifts. Unless you don't want to engage in the horizontal tango for a very, VERY long time...or if you have a very understanding partner.Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Hello out there, you wonderful people you, and thanks for listening to another episode of Just One of the Guys. This week, our look at the Green Lantern and Guy Gardner books begins with Green Lantern #61, where Kyle and his snuggle bunny (I'm pretty certain that's the correct term Kevin Dooley mandated she be called) Donna Troy are having a nice little picnic...or the surface of Mars (Hope they didn't tell J'onn J'onnz, because he might be a little miffed with them cavorting all over the barren wasteland that was once his home). But the fun and finger sandwiches will have to wait for our duo, as the Overlord of Apokolips, Darkseid, has sent Kalibak to break up their happy-fun time. And Darkseid also does a little tag popping...whatever that means. Over with Guy, we get a trip to Metropolis in Action Comics 709 where our favorite morphing ginger tries to get some help dealing with his wacky alien hybrid DNA from the Man of Steel. But mostly what he gets is a beatdown in the Metropolis Tunnel, where they appear to be pretty lax in allowing people to transport hazardous materials. This leads into Guy Gardner Warrior #30, where we find out who would win in a fight between Guy and Superman...and strangely enough, the winner is actually SuperGIRL...who saw that coming? Plus we get Mitch Byrd drawing the Last Son of Krypton, which is always awesome for me. But the biggest bonus this episode is I have another wonderful guest host with me this time. Mr J David Weter, host of PAD Smash, Superman Forever Radio, and Green Lantern's Light amongst a myriad of others was kind enough to drop by and add his humor, wit, and charm to the show. Plus he did the synopsis for Action 709, so less work for me...huzzah! As always, David was a blast to have on the show, and you should definitely go check out his podcasts. So unless you want Darkseid to whip out his mad beats on his kickin' sound system, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!
