Whether you call her The Latina Hammer, La Luchadora, or maybe just DMP: it's clear Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is making herself known in the Florida race for Senate against incumbent Rick Scott (who was involved in defrauding Medicare in 1997.) Mucarsel-Powell talks about the challenges that Floridians face, from high insurance rates to climate change, and how the normally Republican leaning Villages is showing up for the Harris-Walz campaign.
In this episode, Renzo Aroni (@renzoaronis) speaks with Araceli Poma and Matt Geraghty. They are the Afro-Andean Funk based in New York City and have just released their second album, Flower on Fire. For their first album, The Sacred Leaf, they were nominated for the 2022 Latin Grammy. The duo is unique in their commitment to rescuing, valuing, and promoting Indigenous-rooted songs, traditions, and cultures from the Andean, Amazonian, and Afro-Peruvian communities and bringing into global merging music. We discuss three powerful, symbolic, and multilingual songs: “La Luchadora del Ande” from the first album, and “Somos Latinoamérica” and “Kukama” from the second album. In the show, you will listen to these songs. These songs are personal and societal for the duo. There is a theme of social and environmental justice and Indigenous song revival, like in the Kukama language, which is highly endangered because all the estimated 1500 remaining speakers are older adults dispersed in small communities in the Peruvian Amazon. You can buy Flower on Fire here. If you're going to be near Manhattan on July 9 at 4:30 PM, check out their free outdoor concert in Lincoln Center *** En este episodio, Renzo Aroni (renzo.aroni) conversa con Araceli Poma y Matt Geraghty. Puedes comprar Flower on Fire.
*This is a listener FAVORITE from Season 2. We are using a new format and recording style for Season 3 and beyond. We have kept this episode on the main feed as it was one that the listeners loved. In this episode, Heather and Rachelle discuss another female serial killer! Her nickname was La Luchadora...which means “the fighter”. Why, you ask? Well, in Mexico, professional wrestling is a popular form of entertainment. But it’s a bit different than one might expect by the name...in Mexico, professional wrestling aka Lucha Libre has a certain sense of pageantry. Luchadores (aka wrestlers), often wear colorful masks as they perform different acrobatic leaps off the ropes to grapple with their opponents. But Juana Barraza had a more sinister side to her.She lived somewhat of a double life. Her day consisted of working as a popcorn vendor and sometimes a luchadora at a wrestling venue in Mexico City. She was described as being stocky and strong. Barraza took to the ring as The Lady of Silence as she competed in the amateur circuit. By night, she was a completely different person - known as Mataviejitas, or “little old lady killer.” She may have killed up to 50 woman who were all over the age of 60! She is serving a sentence of 759 years in a Mexican prison…where she is actually living a decent life; to hear her tell it!Promo: The Dark Divide Our theme music was created and customized by Nico Vettese of We Talk of Dreams. Today I watched Week 3 of WWE 2017 which included Raw 1234, SmackDown Live 909, 205 Live 8, Main Event 225 and NXT 373! Even though it was a far better week of shows than last week, everything was kind of sunk having to follow the excellent UK Championship Tournament (Listen to my review here! ) Nonetheless, I did enjoy many moments this week including a Raw Tag Team Championship match between Cesaro + Sheamus and The Club, Alexa Bliss vs Becky Lynch in a cage match for the SmackDown Women's Championship, the identity of La Luchadora (#3... or #2?) revealed, a killer appearance by Dolph Ziggler on King's Court, an I Forfeit match between Ariya Daivari and Jack Gallagher, and what's next for Tye Dillinger! Watch for next week's review and my thoughts on what might (or what I hope will) happen at NXT Takeover San Antonio and the Royal Rumble!
The TTR crew is back and ready to give you their unique coverage of the past week on professional wrestling! This week, our duo talk about the brawl that opened RAW. As well as a somewhat uncomfortable edition of the King's Court with Jerry Lawler. John talks about how Bray Wyatt should always conduct himself as he did on TALKING SMACK. 205 LIVE saw three fantastic matches, finishing with the "I Forfeit" Match. John then runs down this week's episode of NXT as quickly as possible! They also answer some questions from Facebook and Twitter!
Join the Sly Guy and Too Good as we talk RAW and SmackDown Live! Battle ensued on Raw and La Luchardora was revealed on SmackDown. On top of that, Randy Orton cussed out a fan at a gym and Kurt is in the Hall of Fame class of 2017!
From Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka passing away to Kurt Angle's WWE Hall of Fame induction announcement to Mickie James' return on SmackDown Live, it has been nothing short of a newsworthy week in the world of wrestling, and Graham "GSM" Matthews is analyzing it all on the latest episode of WrestleRant Radio! He opens the hour with his candid thoughts on the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament and if it was a success, Snuka's passing and whether it should have been honored the way he was, Brock Lesnar's return on Raw, the Elimination Chamber announcement on SmackDown, Dolph Ziggler on The King's Court, Mickie James being revealed as La Luchadora, and much more! Also, stick around for Jamie Lee Mac and GSM talking the exciting announcement regarding Angle heading into the Hall of Fame, Jamie's initial reaction to the news, who he could see inducting him, a potential on-air role for him on WWE programming, whether we will see him ahead of his induction, and if one more match is in the cards from the Olympic gold medalist!

It's an old-school Jobbing Out this week, as we go back to the typical format that we haven't seen in a while. In segment one, Glenn, Aaron and AJ talk about RAW, focusing on that final segment. What did it mean? Are they still weighing their Wrestlemania options when it comes to Goldberg? Or was it simply a way to hype the Rumble? And what exactly is in mind for Wrestlemania up and down the card? Also, they talk about the RAW tag division and the cruiserweights. In segment 2, they shift to Smackdown, where they start by talking again about AJ Styles and John Cena. They praise the fact that Daniel Bryan did indeed give a reason as to why Cena instantly gets a title shot. However, there's a bit of dissension as to if Cena said the right things. They turn to the Miz, where they try to figure out where this all ends if his dropping the title is really moving away from the IC title. What's the play at Mania? Shawn Michaels? Daniel Bryan? Someone else? Plus, who is La Luchadora, the way women are being used on Smackdown, Luke Harper, and more. In segment 3, they do an old-school quick count, as they talk about Wrestle Kingdom 11, DDP's induction into the Hall of Fame, and the twitter beef between John Cena and Roman Reigns. Plus, what do wrestlers have as their New Year's Resolutions in the return of the Top Five.
It's time for the 2nd annual Jobbie Awards, as the guys look back on a fantastic 2016 when it comes to wrestling. First, they take a quick look at the week of wrestling, focusing mainly on Smackdown. They talk Cena's return and how that was handled, American Alpha winning the title and ask why this was pushed up, and question who La Luchadora might be. In the 2nd segment, it's time for the Jobbies. They give out their awards from categories ranging from Superstar of the Year to Best Match to yes, Jobber of the Year. The most contentious debate comes during feud of the year, where Glenn gets so heated that he has to leave the studio for a period. In the final segment, the guys make their sure-to-be-correct predictions for 2017, which includes guesses about Braun Strowman, Asuka, The Rock, and Cody Rhodes, amongst others.
