In this episode of Talking Smack 415, Jamie the Great and I are keeping it in the family—my family. We sit down with my brother, Sam Mink, owner of Oyster House, who was just named a 2026 America's Classics Award winner for the Mid-Atlantic region by the James Beard Foundation—one of the restaurant industry's highest honors. Not only did he receive this incredible recognition, but Oyster House is also celebrating its 50th anniversary. In this episode of Talking Smack 415, Jamie the Great and I are diving into the April energetic forecast with intuitive healer and therapist Maia Taub—and let's just say… this month is a whole vibe shift. If March was about pushing, striving, and figuring it all out, April is asking something completely different: Stop forcing. Start trusting. The message coming through loud and clear?Don't give up—but stop trying so hard.We talk about what it means to surrender and trust that something bigger is working behind the scenes—even when it doesn't feel like it.What's coming through for April: The Rose: beauty and struggleThe Fox: observe, don't react take it all in Prince of Wands (Tarot) : fiery Aries energy, forward movement, creative breakthroughsThere's a powerful theme woven through all of it:You're leaving the darkness and moving into something beautifulBut it requires trust, patience, and surrendering the need to control the outcomeWe also get real about:Feeling discouraged when things aren't happening fast enoughThe pressure to “manifest” vs. actually allowingHow to notice the small wins (because they matter more than you think)Why April is both the struggle AND the bloomThis episode is your reminder that:You don't have to do it all alone.Sometimes the most powerful move… is to take a step back and let it unfold. Perfect for listeners searching:April energy forecast 2026, astrology Aries season meaning, spiritual growth podcast, manifestation vs surrender, intuitive guidance April, tarot Prince of Wands meaning, emotional healing podcast, mindset and resilience, spiritual awakening signs, trust the universe themes If you're feeling:Burnt out from trying to control everythingOn the edge of giving upLike something is shifting but you can't quite see it yet…This episode is for you.Share this episode with your friends and family who love to laugh. In this episode of Talking Smack 415, Jamie the Great and I dive into one of the biggest health conversations happening right now: GLP-1 weight-loss drugs. From celebrities like Oprah and Sharon Osbourne to friends, family members, and coworkers, medications like Ozempic and other GLP-1 drugs seem to be everywhere. Nearly 10% of U.S. adults are now taking GLP-1 medications, and the cultural conversation around them is growing fast. Are they a breakthrough for obesity and metabolic health — or the beginning of a new wave of diet culture? To help us unpack the science and the societal impact, we invited Dr. Erika Siegel, a naturopathic physician, acupuncturist, and author of The Nourish Me Kitchen. With more than two decades of experience in integrative medicine, Dr. Siegel blends functional medicine with nutrition and whole-food healing. In this episode we ask the questions everyone seems to be wondering: Are GLP-1 medications like Ozempic truly a miracle drug for weight loss and type 2 diabetes? What exactly is “food noise,” and how do GLP-1 drugs reduce cravings? Why do many people regain weight after stopping GLP-1 medications? What are the most common GLP-1 side effects, including hair loss, muscle loss, and digestive issues? Is micro-dosing GLP-1 drugs becoming a new trend? Can GLP-1 medications actually help reduce cravings for alcohol and other addictions?Dr. Siegel also explains why nutrition, strength training, and fiber intake (25–30 grams per day) are critical when using these medications — and why protein, sleep, and hormone balance still matter. We also explore the bigger cultural questions:• Are GLP-1 drugs fueling a new era of SkinnyTok and diet culture? • What are the long-term effects of GLP-1 medications, especially for younger people? • How might these drugs affect fertility, metabolism, and overall health? • And who were GLP-1 medications actually designed for — versus who is using them now?Whether you're curious about Ozempic, GLP-1 weight-loss drugs, food noise, addiction, or long-term safety, this conversation takes a deeper look at the science, the culture, and the future of one of the most talked-about medical trends today. You can follow along with all things Erika : Instagram @dr.erikasiegelInfo on her book on nourishme.comBuy her bookset on Amazon the Nourish Me KitchenShare this episode with your friends and family who love to laugh. In March's energetic forecast, Maia share's with Jamie the Great and myself, that we've come full circle at the end of our 1 year cycle. And ,this March it's about claiming radical responsibility — for our choices, your reactions, your resilience, and your lives. The messages came through loud and clear:You're going to get knocked down — and you're going to get back up again.Resilience, resilience, resilienceGround yourself so the fall isn't as hard.Maia pulled the Wheel of Fortune Tarot Card, which makes the efforting a bit more fun in March because it signifies luck, new beginnings, expansion, creativity, big breakthroughs, and unexpected fortune. Interestingly enough it's also a circle like us - celebrating our year anniversary. We talk about the root chakra being grounding and why March may present you with a choice you can't avoid. This isn't an easy breezy month. It's an adulting month. But it's also a breakthrough month.Stay grounded.Stay responsible.Stay resilient. And when you get knocked down? What does it take for a friendship to last from sixth grade to midlife? In this episode of Talking Smack 415, Jamie the Great and I we dive deep into the origin story of a forever friendship that belongs to Caryn and Jen and began at Brett Harte Elementary School in Cherry Hill, New Jersey — back when Guess jeans, first bras, and hours-long phone calls ruled the world. This is a story about growing up together and navigating friendship into adulthood. And about choosing each other again and again over decades. We talk about:Talking on the phone for hours (when life was innocent and drama meant who liked who)Playing Uno for hours and chatting on the swings ( a total stranger things moment) The time they stood up for themselves after a teacher called them “dirt bags”Getting their periods and figuring out how to use a tamponAdmiration, loyalty, and the safety of a judgment-free zone A few “mean girl” moments (because high school…) Why this relationship remains one of the most important in their livesThrough middle school memories, teenage growing pains, and adult responsibilities, what has kept them bonded is something rare: A total judgment-free zone. This episode is for anyone who:Still talks to their elementary school best friendWonders how to maintain long-term female friendshipsBelieves women need lifelong friendships to thriveIs navigating midlife and reflecting on the people who shaped themBecause sometimes the most important love story in your life… isn't romantic. It's your best friend from 6th grade.Research shows that long-term female friendships improve mental health, longevity, and emotional resilience. But what does that look like in real life?It looks like:Phone cords stretched across bedroomsSharing secrets before you even know who you areGrowing up without growing apartChoosing loyalty over egoKnowing someone has seen every version of you — and loves you anywayThis is nostalgia, vulnerability, laughter, and real talk about why female friendships are foundational — especially in midlife.Share this episode with your friends and family who love to laugh. February is here and in Talking Smack 415's Energetic Forecast: Maia's Take it's a continuation. We're still moving through the energy of 2025 and carrying January with us… until things begin to shift mid-month, right in alignment with the Lunar New Year. The energy of Feb is all about: Presence Paying attention. Returning—again and again—to now. February asks us to deepen (or begin) a meditation or centering practice, because staying grounded isn't automatic—it's a practice. And it's on us to keep coming back to center. The tarot card pulled for the month is Adjustment—which symoblizes balance, equilibrium, and recalibration. This is the first time that there were three animals: The Peacock — a Buddhist symbol of transforming poison into medicine, reminding us to alchemize the bad into good. The BluebirdThe Blue Butterfly And since they're all blue—the color of the month is blue. Blue symbolizes spiritual and intellectual powers and it's the color of the throat chakra. We need to be present his month and think before we speak. We also share our words for the year, which we didn't have in January. Happy New Year and welcome to Talking Smack 415's 2026 Energetic Forecast: Maia's Take.We love that 2026 arrives with a very low tolerance for BS, and Jamie the Great, Maia, and I are already feeling it.This year is all about shedding, cleansing, and letting go—of people, patterns, places, and habits that drain you instead of replenish you. Think of it as an energetic detox for your life.Important timing note: January 2026 acts as an extended transition month—a continuation of 2025. You're being given a final window to release what no longer serves you. The true energetic new year doesn't fully kick in until February 2026, and when it does? It's clean. It's fresh. It's different.Spirit Animal of the Year: The Frog Frog energy represents cleansing, renewal, and rebirth. Water is medicine this year—whether that's swimming, cold plunging, baths, or simply being near water. Anything that helps you wash it off matters.Tarot Energy: The Fool The first card up signals new beginnings, fresh starts, and bold leaps of faith. The Fool asks you to trust the jump—even before you can see the landing.Color of the Year: Green Green shows up everywhere—frog energy, spring energy, heart-chakra energy. And yes, even being green with envy holds wisdom this year. Envy can act as a compass, pointing you toward what your heart truly wants. Let it guide you—not consume you or bring you down.Numerology Check-In We've just completed a 9-year cycle. 2026 is a 1 year—the energy of initiation, leadership, and starting over. This year is going to feel totally different, which is kind of the point. We're beginning again. If you're ready to release what's not aligned, trust your heart as a GPS, and step into what's next with clarity and courage—this forecast is your roadmap.Tune in, scrub it off, and let 2026 be the year you meet the real you.PS: Ten years ago, in 2016, I created an art installation called The Shedding. In this episode of Talking Smack 415, Jamie the Great and I sit down with someone very special: Jamie's nephew… but also kind of her son… brother… all rolled into one — Shai Gilmore.Shai's story blends resilience, humor, and the fierce love that only family can provide. He takes us back to when he was about 4 years old in Florida, where his Pop-Pop stepped in when life got complicated. Shai opens up about: Growing up with a mother in recovery Losing his father to a car accident Realizing, at just 4 years old, that “something wasn't right” Becoming everyone's favorite Green (sorry, Jamie) Navigating identity with a different last name High school chaos, college radio, and pranks What it felt like when he supported Jamie while she battled cancer It's sweet. It's funny. It's a little messy. And above all — it's a reminder that family is family is family. We're launching this episode for the holidays because Shai's name literally means “gift.” So here it is: the gift of Shai — his laughter, love, and light — for your holiday season.Whether you're in the Bay Area, Florida, New Jersey, or navigating your own family story, this episode is for you.Grab your earbuds or hop in the car and press play. In this episode of Talking Smack 415, Jamie the Great and I sit down with Maia for November's energetic forecast — and November sounds like it's gonna be a good month for all of us! Maia sees tornado energy — things are getting shaken up! The first half of November may feel messy and inconvenient, but this disruption is good. It's clearing the path so the dust can settle in a way that's far more aligned with your purpose.Once the storm passes, the vibe shifts. Maia pulled the Sun Tarot card — which is her favorite and symbolizes that creativity, wish fulfillment, and radiant joy take center stage. November's message is about creative transformation, sacral chakra activation, and reconnecting with your inner power.Symbolism highlights:Flower: Orange Chrysanthemum — passion, resilience, and joyChakra: Sacral — creation, flow, sensuality ( plies it's orange too)Spirit Animal: Elephant — wisdom, prosperity, and removing obstacles Remember this month, when you're in the middle of shake up it's for the good. In this episode, Jamie the Great and I chat with Maia as she breaks down the October 2025 energy forecast — exploring how to move with purpose, embrace new beginnings, and refresh your spirit.October's energy feels like a quiet new beginning. Even though we're moving into fall, the month carries a spring-like renewal — soft, feminine, and deeply intentional. It's about surrendering and allowing, letting things unfold naturally.⚡️ Number of the Month: 1 October is a 1 month in numerology, symbolizing fresh starts and new cycles — amplifying themes of renewal and possibility. We chat about:New beginnings through endings (after September's closures)Feminine, quiet, and internal energySlowing down to speed upMoving methodically with thought and intentionA gentle “fall refresh” — like a spring clean, but softer⚡️ Jewish New Year 5786 When you add it all together (5+7+8+6 = 26 → 2+6 = 8), the number is 8: abundance!⚡️ Tarot Card: Ace of Cups The overflowing cup — a reminder to give love freely and watch it flow back to you.⚡️ Spirit Animal: Frog The frog carries water energy, representing cleansing and emotional release. Cleansing isn't just about your space or body — it's about letting go of people, habits, and energies that no longer light you up. It can be as simple as a bath, a shower, or connecting with natural water. (Jamie and I are all about the ocean!)And finally — Happy Birthday to all the Libras out there! On this episode of The Jon Gordon Podcast, I sit down with Rafi Kohan, author, cultural observer, and the mind behind Trash Talk: The Only Book About Destroying Your Rivals That Isn't Total Garbage. What started as a casual Zoom between new friends quickly turned into a lively deep dive into the world of competitive banter, all captured here in real time. Together, Rafi and I explore the fascinating, untold science and history of trash talk. He breaks down why trash talk is more than just gamesmanship on the field, it's a fundamental part of human behavior, threaded through ancient stories from the Bible to the Homeric poems, and alive in everything from politics to playgrounds. We get into how trash talk manipulates attention, anxiety, motivation, and even performance, and why some of the world's greatest athletes and public figures use it to their advantage. Rafi shares wild stories, including some next-level antics from a soccer goalie who turned mental distraction into an art form, reveals why even the most positive folks can't resist a little friendly ribbing (looking at you, Ken Blanchard), and reflects on how the lessons of trash talking stretch far beyond sports, touching on politics, performance, resilience, and even moral character. We also riff on modern-day masters of the craft (think Muhammad Ali to Donald Trump) and the fine line between competition that lifts us up versus rivalry that tears us down. If you've ever wondered why we talk smack, how to handle it when it happens, or what it really says about us, you'll find insight and plenty of laughs in this episode. Whether you're a serious competitor, a sports fan, or someone who's just curious about why people do what they do, this conversation brings fresh perspective, energy, and practical takeaways on embracing pressure, building grit, and becoming the kind of rival that makes everyone better. And yes, there's a little trash talk between us too. If you want to rethink the way you handle challenges, on the court, at work, or in life, this episode is for you. Rafi Kohan is an award-winning sports journalist and dynamic keynote speaker. He is the author, most recently, of Trash Talk: The Only Book About Destroying Your Rivals That Isn't Total Garbage, which explores the phenomenon of verbal gamesmanship in sports, and everywhere, and what it reveals about our ability to perform under pressure. About Rafi, Kohan's first book, The Arena, is a wide-ranging examination of the modern American sports stadium and was a finalist for the 2018 PEN/ESPN Award for Literary Sports Writing. Previously, Kohan has served as deputy editor at the New York Observer and as executive editorial director for the Atlantic's creative marketing studio. His writing has appeared in numerous publications, including GQ, the New York Times, Men's Journal, Rolling Stone, and the Wall Street Journal, among many others, and his thought leadership on the surprising benefits of trash talk has been featured on Fast Company, Scientific American, NPR's Science Friday, BBC's Unexpected Elements, and Re:Thinking with Adam Grant.
