Lars Huismann returns to SHDW & Obscure's Mutual Rytm imprint for the third and final part of his Sounds From The Past EP series. We premiere the effortlessly powerful ‘Bittersweet' as Lars calls on mutated dub chords and galloping low-end for a no-nonsense techno weapon. Berlin-based Lars Huismann has been a key cog in the Mutual Rytm machine since the inception of the label in February of last year. Lars returns for his fifth offering on the label, and his third solo EP as he signs off on the final Sounds From The Past EP of the trilogy. Lars continues to push his sound through each release on Mutual Rytm, working closely with SHDW & Obscure Shape to achieve a forward-thinking yet vintage package of contemporary techno funk. Lars perfectly merges influences from the past with forward-thinking nuances of the future. Drawing on the early 2000 techno sound, he embellishes it with his own perspective, as evidenced by his earlier releases on the label. This latest six-track offering is another accomplished outing from this unique talent as he concludes the three-part series on the label in style. We premiere ‘Bittersweet' a raging techno banger that is running at full speed from the get-go. Lars maximises a tight and rolling dub influenced to loop its fullest, perfectly conveying that less is more in tool-orientated techno. Jolting low-end drives this raging bull-style techno-thriller, while sharp percussion shifts keep the groove organic and fluent. Another high-class offering from Lars on Mutual Rytm and you wouldn't expect any less from a producer that is truly at the top of his game. Today's premiere comes courtesy of newly relocated DJ and producer FXR. The aspiring artist who is formally part of the dance music duo 'FUAM', recently relocated to Australia where he has since launched his solo project for musical endeavours as he experiences life down under. This remix of an old classic is an insight into the direction FXR is heading for with his future productions as a solo artist. Conor Patten (FXR) has built up a refined taste in dance music over the years which derives clear inspiration from numerous artists such as Rodhad, Kaiser, and Lars Huismann. By means of this, he has carved out a sound based on a foundation of highly energetic, rolling techno that is deeply infused with rhythmic patterns, ambient textures, and distorted vocal grooves throughout his productions. All of which can be heard throughout this flip of Lullaby of Clubland. Since arriving in Australia, FXR has focused on familiarising himself with a slightly different way of life, which also includes fresh dance scenes and new music communities that come with it. Conor has done exceptionally well in the short span of time that he has been there, having obtained a monthly residency with Area3000 radio as well as a support slot for Italian techno heavyweight Kaiser in the process. Not to mention that his productions have also been a huge focus for him, as he boasts releases on Dutch labels ERADYS Records and Obscuur. All while doing his fair share in terms of self-releases with more in the pipeline to be released in the near future, it certainly will be interesting to see where this bright artist ends up. This week's entry to the Local Selection welcomes Ventolin to the series. The Irish DJ and producer is now based in Haarlem in the Netherlands, where he has provided us with a sensational recording that encapsulates his compelling mixing style. This recording, in particular, includes several unreleased Ventolin cuts throughout too, for good measure. Ventolin acts as our latest entry to the Local Selection Mix Series, acting as the latest entry he has gifted us with a fantastic recording that is carefully crafted, showcasing a range of techno selections that draw from his own signature taste. This inspiration is partially drawn from his father too, as the recording focuses on grooving techno elements alongside broken jungle elements which makes for a fresher, more unique listen overall. This shift in taste comes from spending some time travelling across Europe which lead Ventolin to uncover various styles and sounds rooted in dance music. Not to mention a number of appearances on Ghent's Radio Ruit and Brussels' Kiosk Radio in the process. All while releasing a range of material from as far back as 2020. Ventolin has released a wealth of self-released tracks during this time as well as numerous other musical projects with Planetaria Barcelona, Seven Twelve, Reboot Records, SPEED, Filth Inc and more. This mix does a brilliant job at encapsulating Ventolin's current taste musically, as he includes a range of tracks from artists and labels he's digging at the moment as well as some older cuts a bit closer to him that he feels like he can drop at any given time. Expect to hear tracks from Lars Huismann, Decadence, Almir Ljusa, and Chontane as well as some unreleased from Ventolin himself. Dig in. We premiere a track from techno legend today, Paul Birken. Birken has put together an analogue techno bomb for Gombocs first release on wax. Paul Birken has been putting out wonky techno classic's for the best part of 25 years. Release's such as ‘Speaker Freakin” & ‘Surfin' Superior' helped launch his 12 inches into the hands of some of techno's most coveted and technical DJ's. Paul still receives heavy support from the likes of Sunil Sharpe, Jerome Hill & Bas Mooy. More recent releases on ‘Mord', ‘Earwiggle' & ‘Don't' have helped solidify Birken's name to a newer generation. Birken still holds down his classic style of hectic, machine driven style of bleep techno. This release marks the first release on 12 inch, for Argentinian label, Gomboc. The label have been throwing out, high octane techno since 2017 and have been home to artists such as Lars Huismann, Nico Moreno, Umwelt, D. Carbone, Joe Farr, Takaaki Itoh, Lag & more. Birken shares the release with some of techno's most influential names for the Gombocs first vinyl release. The release will be home to Thomas P. Heckmann, Jerome Hill, Martyn Hare & Paul Birken himself. “Four legendary artists that influenced not only us but probably thousands of people. With their own signature sound, each track resembles a unique style. From Acid, to Rave and just pure machinery communication.” Birken's track, Poaching Pickled Parcels, is a distorted piece of machine paradise. Screaming synths lye at the forefront of the track while a pounding a kick drum does its damage. The track is complete with shuffling analogue percussion that simmers in and out of sections of the track. A true hectic piece of hectic dance music, from the king of mayhem. We're yet again very excited to present another episode of our monthly podcast - this time having no one less than Lars Huismann for our guest mix: Being highly active with producing new gems regularly and already having releases on labels like ARTS, Wunderblock, Animal Farm and Ōtomo under his belt, you may fasten your seat belts and enjoy the ride ahead. Before that, our very own KIRUNA will set the mood with his hour, starting out deep and experimentally. Sharing is caring - enjoy! -- Lars was born in Berlin in 1987. His Career as a musician began very early. At 11 years young he started drumming in different bands. After a few years he founded his own bands, playing different styles from jazz, fusion and all the way to progressive metal. His orientation on complex drum grooves makes up his foundation, while still being able to keep an open mind in regards to different styles and the ability to put them together to create a new form of art. At the age of 18 he discovered producing with different software such as FL-Studio and Cubase. Using these programs he was able to transfer his patterns and sequences from the drum set onto a drum computer. He has always had a natural yearning to tweek his recordings and productions, and shape them into unrecognisable elements of sound. However, there was always a strong connection to more heavyweight electronic music. He discovered how great it is to listen and produce techno that basically wants to devour you from the inside out, vibrating your body with massive bass and some nasty hypnotic tribal rhythms. -- Like & Share!
