Whilst the hole numbers could be changed prior to the scorecard being returned, it is too late if this is not done before the scorecard has been returned.If a marker signs in the player's spot, and the player signs in the marker's spot, and the scorecard is returned, is that also too late to correct it, or does it even need to be corrected?It does not even need to be corrected. As long as their are two signatures on the scorecard, it will be accepted.GRQOTW135: A player's ball, played from the putting green, is deflected into the hole by another player's caddie, who accidentally walked across the line of play. Losing your ball-marker, and what is reasonable judgement for replacing ball.GRQOTW 132: Blakey and Stuart are all square in their match at Wombat Hills GC, after 12 holes.   As the light is fading and as they walk off the 12th green, Blakey says to Stuart, "how about we agree to halve the 13th, 14th and 15th holes and we just walk over and play the final 3 holes starting on the 16th?”  Stuart agrees and they walk to the 16th tee.  Blakey tees off on 16 when a roving referee drives up and investigates further.  What is the Referee's ruling, if anything?Referee shouldn't get involved. ClubLand Stories December, and what an absolute doozy to finish out the year 2024. Podcast and Blakey finally disagree on a Rules situation, so let us know who you think is right. We have nearly ten outstanding ClubLand stories/Rules questions, including two audio questions, one of which is the GRQOTW for episode 130 and it is a head-scratcher.  GRQOTW129: Andy the Average Golfer incurs a General Penalty for all of the breaches. GRQOTW130 Player hits her ball on a par 3 and it is Known or Virtually Certain to be in a Yellow Penalty Area. The player decides to correctly drop a ball back-on-the-line for a penalty of one stroke. The player then sees her original ball and decides to go and play that ball. She hits her original ball sideways and it rolls back into the same Yellow Penalty Area at a new entry point. The player goes back on the tee side of the Yellow Penalty Area and drops a ball back-on-the-line. She then hits this ball into the greenside bunker. Then she hits her bunker shot across the green and back into the penalty area at the same crossing point as the original ball from the teeing area. She goes to drop a ball under penalty of one stroke back-on-the-line but as her first dropped ball is in the same position she decides to play this instead. Hits that on the green and takes one putt to finish. What is her score? He has to go back to where he played his second shot from. GRQOTW122 Question: In a stroke play competition, Andrea hits her tee shot into a heavily-wooded area. She properly plays a provisional ball under Rule 18.3b and it comes to rest in the fairway. She searches for her original ball for one minute and declares it 'lost'. She walks over to her provisional ball and accidentally kicks it. She replaces it, but before she plays it and within 3 minutes of her starting searching, a spectator finds her original ball. She lifts the provisional ball and plays the original ball to the green. She takes two putts and tees off on the next hole. What is her score for the hole? Episode 121 of the GolfRules Questions podcast is back to the OG of Rules Questions - ClubLand Stories Today's episode features a greensomes question about using the partner's club, whether strokes are given in a match play playoff, what is the area underneath a bridge, hitting a ball into the hole with your hand, and playing from a No Play Zone, we also have the GRQOTW for 121 that you can try wrap your head around. GRQOTW120: Eight strokes. Andy the Average Golfer played a ball that was dropped under free relief (which wasn't available to him) and as he did not have intention to drop that ball as an unplayable (even though that is where he arrived at after finding out the free relief wasn't available), he has played from a wrong place. He was required to drop a ball with the intention for it to be an unplayable, not just play one that was dropped previously by him and in the correct relief area. GRQOTW121: Andy the Average Golfer is playing a stroke round at Wombat Hills.  On the 9th hole, he hits his 2nd shot way left towards the driving range.  Among all of the other golf balls, he finds his ball and plays his 3rd stroke towards the green.  After 1 chip and 3 putts, he holes out. As he is waiting at the back of the 9th green, waiting for others to finish the hole, a staff member walks down and advises Andy that the driving range is OOB.  Andy asks the staff member what that means.  Neither know, so they approach you as a member of the Committee for assistance.  What is Andy the Average Golfer's score for the 9th hole? GRQOTW115: Blakey loses the hole because: Caddie's action breaches a Rule that if the player had taken would have been a breach, so Blakey loses the hole because the caddie gave incorrect information about the score that Blakey had had. GRQOTW116: Danny the D Grade Golfer is playing a stroke round at Wombat Hills. Danny makes her 6th stroke from the putting green on the 1st hole, and the ball comes to rest only 5cms (2in) from the hole. Thinking she is playing stableford and frustrated that she is going to score 0 points on the 1st hole, she turns her putter upside down and knocks the ball into the hole using the grip end of the putter. Andy the Average Golfer reminds Danny that she is playing stroke and not stableford. With Andy's excellent rules knowledge assisting her, and knowing she has not made a legal stroke, Danni replaces her ball back 5cms from the hole and putts the ball in the hole correctly. She asks Andy to put an 8 for her hole score (7 talent strokes and 1 penalty stroke for causing her ball to move). Before submitting her scorecard, she asks you if 8 is correct, as she is not sure about the penalty stroke - what is her hole score for the 1st hole? His provisional ball became the ball in play, but then he made a stroke at a wrong ball, and didn't end up finding the original ball off the tee, so had to take S&D and go back to the teeing area. GRQOTW115: Blakey and Stuart are playing a match at Wombat Hills.  Blakey has holed out for 5.  Stuart, who has a putt for a 5, asks Andy the Average Golfer, who is Blakey's caddie, "Andy, what did Blakey have?"   By mistake, Andy the Average Golfer states that Blakey has holed out in 4 strokes.  As he thinks he has lost the hole, Stuart picks up his ball marker to head to the next tee.  Before Stuart leaves the green, Blakey calls out, "Hey, I didn't concede that putt!"  Stuart explains what Andy had said, when Blakey corrects his caddie that he actually had a 5 and tells Stuart.  Stuart isn't sure of the Rules when the caddie states the hole score, so he requests a Ruling?  What is the Ruling? The child asks the caddie if he can keep the ball, when the caddie realises it is not Danni the D Grade Golfer's ball. The caddie advises Danni, and they continue searching for her ball, finding it about 1 minute later, however now 5 minutes after they began searching originally.She picks up the dropped ball and continues play with the original ball, holing out in 5 more strokes. He is playing the driveable par 4 5th hole, and he plays his 2nd shot to the green however it goes too far and over the green towards a red penalty area. As Andy arrives behind the green, he finds his caddie, who had walked ahead, standing there near the red line, laughing with some of his friends. Andy the Average Golfer enquires about his ball and discovers that his caddie had deliberately kicked his ball as it was approaching the penalty area, which kept it out. Andy estimates the spot where the ball would have come to rest in the penalty area, based on a brief conversation with his caddie and friends. He drops a ball inside the PA based on that estimation. He then decides to take penalty area relief and drops his ball again outside the PA. Andy holes out in four more strokes. What is Andy the Average Golfer's score for the hole? Blakey and Podcast then discuss their time at The Heritage Classic, a 200k tournament on the PGA Tour of Australasia. - Stuart explains when the search starts. - We had a ball moved during a search in a penalty area - One player dropped their marker on their ball just before putting - A player hit their ball less than a metre, and only just found their ball within the 3-minute time limit - Trying to distinguish where the edge of the gravel path is. GRQOTW 107 - After his tee shot, Andy the Average Golfer's ball is lying close to an irrigation box in the right rough on the 3rd hole at Wombat Hills. He is concerned he will have interference from the box so he simulates his swing and in doing so, causes his ball to move. He advises his marker that he moved his ball and he replaces the ball. He does have interference from the box, however he decides the shot is too risky so he doesn't take relief and he plays out sideways to the fairway. His next stroke lands on the putting green and he takes 3 putts to hole out - what is his hole score? . . The ball that was found after three minutes is lost either way, and therefore can not be used at all. Firstly, we cover a few Clubland Stories:- Mr Roberts wants to know what happens when a struck ball doesn't make its way out of a Red Penalty Area. This comes under Rule 17.2.- Colin wants to know if he proceeded correctly when his ball was stuck up a tree. He dropped within two club-lengths of where the ball was, and this was under Rule 19.2.- Mr Roberts goes again with another tricky one and Blakey and Podcast disagree on what spray foam is deemed to be. But they do agree Mary was able to get some free relief.- Chip gives us a situation that is probably pretty common in Clubland, where a player tries to play a provisional ball for a ball that most likely went into a penalty area. GRQOTW 106 - Big P has hit his tee shot into the red penalty area running down the right side of the 14th hole. After two minutes of searching, he finds and identifies his ball. He makes a stroke at the ball and only advances it 3m. Frustrated, he makes another stroke at it from inside the PA moving it very little and makes another stroke. Very frustrated, he says he is returning to the teeing area to start the hole again.Despite some objections from others in the group, he returns to the teeing area, tees up a ball and makes a stroke, and finishes the hole. There are no players behind waiting to hit.How many penalty strokes must Big P add to his hole score? . . His tee shot on the 15th hole has come to rest in very thick grass near the top of a bunker. Big P decides to take unplayable ball relief, using lateral relief. There is GA and the bunker within the relief area. Prior to dropping, Big P replaces a divot in the relief area and then drops where the ball hits the GA first but rolls into the bunker. Marcela advises Big P that he needs to drop again as it rolled into another part of the course but also suggests that he has improved one of his CATS. For his second drop, Big P drops into the bunker, where the ball comes to rest in the relief area. . Blakey's ball continues to roll past where the flagstick was on the green. Blakey is not happy and requests a ruling. Are there any penalty strokes and what happens next? . Stuart would also incur a one stroke penalty in match play, but Blakey could choose to ignore this breach, since it was his bad advice that caused the Rules imbroglio in the first case. Stuart 'Podcast' McPhee hosts Episode 98 and has a special guest of Marcela Smith from Girlfriends Guide to Golf. They talk about what Marcela thinks is the four of the most misunderstood Rules in golf. Marcela also brings two Clubland stories to the table, and a GRQOTW. GRQOTW 98 - Sharon and Nina are playing in an individual stroke play tournament at Santaluz Golf Club, with two other competitors in their foursome. Sharon pulls her tee shot on the 8th hole and thinks she will find her ball in the bushes. After the other ladies tee off, Sharon starts looking for and finds her ball in about 90 seconds. Her ball is just beyond a white OB stake. Not wanting to go all the way back to the tee, Sharon assumes she can use the model local rule E-5 and drop a ball into the fairway for a two stroke penalty, which she does. The other ladies weren't aware that Sharon's ball was found out of bounds until Sharon casually mentioned it on the 9th tee (which is across a long street and a great distance from the 8th hole). At that time, the other ladies informed Sharon that if her ball was OB she would not be allowed to drop it into the fairway, as Model Local Rule E-5 was not in effect at that course. Since Sharon didn't want to slow down the group behind her, she said she would take an 8 on the hole and move on. What's the ruling? Sekou Heru, aka Tony Williams, has been involved in the performing arts since he was very young. His first love was B- boying. In high school, he attended Mercer County School of the Arts and studied modern dance. In 1993, Sekou started studying Capoeira Angola with Mestre Joa Grande at the Capoeira Academy in NYC. He went on to fuse his breaking and modern dance styles with hip hop and house dance. Sekou has worked with Gwen Guthrey, toured with Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, and can be seen in videos with Aretha Franklin, MC Lyte, Clubland, Pet Shop Boys, Foxy Brown, and Jay Z. Sekou was a featured dancer in the movie Marcy X with Damon Wayans, can be seen in the dance scenes on Spike Lee's The 25th Hour, and seen in Brown Sugar starring Taye Diggs and Sanna Lathan. He has toured in Germany with German rapper Tony Cottura, and has traveled several times to Japan for the annual premier Dance Delight event as a guest judge and featured dancer with the group Dance Fusion, of which he is a founding member. He was a part of the opening act for Cece Peniston's Japan tour, and also opened for Cool C's Let me clear my throat in his Japan performance. He was featured in Japan's "woofin" magazine as one of NYC's top dancers. Sekou toured the USA with Fred Ho and The Afro Asian Ensemble in the Martial Art stage show Voice of the Dragon. In 2005 Sekou choreographed the Dance Dance video for Fall Out Boy that went #1 in the country and won a Best Video Award at the MTV VMAs.

GRQOTW 96 - Blakey and Stuart are playing in an individual stroke round at Wombat Hills.  On the 9th hole, Stuart's ball becomes embedded in the putting green after his 2nd shot.  Not knowing what to do, he asks Blakey, who jokingly tells him he must drop the ball within a one club length relief area on the putting green, no nearer the hole.  Stuart does this.  Blakey then notices Stuart's ball on the green away from the embedded spot and with no ball marker down.  Blakey tells Stuart that he was only joking and that you cannot get embedded ball relief on the green.  How must Stuart proceed and are there any penalty strokes to either player? Today, August 4 marks the date that apartheid opponent Nelson Mandela was arrested by security police in South Africa. He was then tried and sentenced to five years in prison. The assault took place back on August 4 1962. In 1964, he was placed on trial for sabotage, high treason, and conspiracy to overthrow the government and was sentenced to life in prison. In remembrance of Mandela's arrest, I want to present two interviews that I did with two very interesting people that had to do with apartheid. One is with Bradley Steyn, and the other is with Greg Marinovich.Bradley Steyn enlisted in the South African Navy at 17. After being discharged, he found employment in the underground nightlife of Cape Town's Clubland, where he was recruited by the apartheid Security Branch in a 'brutal crackdown on activists'. Bradley, finding himself on the wrong path for his own redemption, joined the African National Congress' Department of Intelligence and Security, and spent two years spying on the White right-wing until a bounty was placed on his head.
