This week was a very long week in real life... and it appears that this spilled over into the things that Dhani watched as well. This episode might seem too political for some listeners, but Dhani really feels that people can learn from TV and Movies, so please listen and make your decision about watching these things. First, Dhani saw The Hate U Give. This is a harrowing story about a cop shooting a young, unarmed, black teen. While we have seen this story in real life way too many times, the movie talks about very important pieces to such a complicated situation. This is a movie that every person, and especially all young people should watch. Next, Dhani watched the Netflix special, John Leguizamo's Lating History for Morons. She learned so much about the Latino history that has been wiped from our textbooks or culture. This is a very informative, but very funny show that everyone can enjoy. John Leguizamo is a fantastic teacher and storyteller. Switching now to TV, Dhani touches on The Purge that just ended. She enjoyed the 10 episodes enough to recommend to those that enjoy the movies. Next, she talks about Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and the overall arch of the 4 seasons and how much she is going to miss this original, funny, musical show. Finally, we get to our Actors' Corner and this week we chose Melissa McCarthy. She is receiving the ICON award at the Peoples' Choice Awards this weekend, so we thought we would honor her work as well. Listen as John and Dhani name Melissa's projects that they love, like, hate, secretly love, haven't seen and want to see. The Hate U Give (1:00) ★★★★★ John Leguizamo's Latin History For Morons (13:30) The Purge (25:02) Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (29:45) Actors' Corner: Melissa McCarthy (35:44)
This week, Joy and Grecia talk about the Latinx NYC Meetup and disrupting the spaces on Broadway and Brunch. Along with their thoughts on John Leguizamo's one-man show "Latin History for Morons." Touching about African erasure & homophobia in Latinx history and teaser to Juana Inez de La Cruz on Netflix. And what is peak wokeness? Are we ever woke enough? And how do we stop ourselves from being the woke-police (cause they really don't wanna be the woke-police)? Oh and Fangirling to LatinosWhoLunch Podcast that created spaces for Latinx and inspired us to start!!!! First, this show is closing 25 Feb 2018, so take that in to consideration as you determine our level of expertise or horse shit. Second, we apologize sincerely to Tony Taccone, who directed this play, for both mispronouncing his name, and neglecting to reflect on the impact he's had on American theater. Owe you a cocktail, Tony. Clearly, we're the Morons to whom Mr. Lequizamo is referring. Enjoy!

The writer-performer learned a lot in preparation for his new Broadway solo outing -- but his biggest takeaway is that he's "a true ghetto nerd."
In this episode on my wife joins me once again to discuss our 23 and me genetic results and our thoughts on the John Leguizamo broadway show "Latin History For Morons" and just how little we knew about our culture. This week, Gene welcomes NPR's Audie Cornish to talk about multi-talented writer, producer and comedian John Leguizamo. As a performer, he's mined his Latino identity through his own family and old New York neighborhoods for decades. Audie interviewed Leguizamo in New York during the current run of his latest one-man show, Latin History For Morons. Now a father, Leguizamo struggles with what he knows and what he can teach his son and daughter about being Latino in the U.S., while challenging himself to be the dad he'd always wanted his own father to be.
This is not fake news. This week, Latino Rebels Radio spoke with THE John Leguizamo about his show, LATIN HISTORY FOR MORONS, which is at NYC's Public Theater until the end of April. Later in the show, Sharis joins us from SXSW to share her clips with Van Jones, Wagner Moura (NARCOS) and Alice Braga (Queen of the South). Photo by Joan Marcus
