The Explosive Ghoul is identical in nearly every-eth manner to their regular cousins but with several notable exceptions: Abyssal energies: what has been identified to power the ghouls has been “supercharged” extensively to such a point that the Explosive Ghoul gains its name and upon destruction will combust and release said energies at high degree and far reach. This can clearly-eth be seen-eth on thine Explosive Ghoul in its somewhat bloated-eth stomach and through its-eth eyes-eth which will instead of being white show through to the planes abyssal (red as it is speculated that the colours of thine abyss are on the average). Thy-eth savvy hunter should-eth k-note that thine Explosive Ghoul should be seen to be-eth smarter than thy average bear (or ghoul) and shall not indeed fall for the same tricks as thine non-explosive cousin. When thine Explosive Ghoul is slain one should be well away lest they become caught in the fiery (and venomous (here-eth venom shall refer-eth to the effect of creating more-eth ghouls (here-eth ghouls shall mean explosive ghouls) on thy savvy (or should I say unsavvy!) death) as the normal ghoul is (which-eth is to speak that the conflagration is neither fiery nor venomous but rather necrotic)) conflagration. Unfortunately, dear reader and savvy hunter I must confess that I was lying to you at the beginning of this here entry as the Explosive Ghoul is not terribly similar to thine regular ghoul. The Serpent's Strait Ch. 10Let's set the scene, shall we? The group finalizes its plans for Operation Boom Stick. Chan, Thorak, and Valen are all laying out the trap for their "friend", but first they need to acquire a large amount of andrite. Ursus, Bob, and Dona have a different objective... using Bob's Mask of Many Faces and some bardic charm, he makes a spectacle of himself as the "true voice of Hastur." Before they leave, the Journeyman gives them some gifts for the road, one in particular was a tuning fork of disruption, a prototype that Chan holds on to. Thorak, disguised as Snorak, makes his way to a warehouse that stores andrite, serving as a distraction for Chan and Valen to sneak in and grab the andrite without anyone the wiser. If only it were that simple. With some jerry-rigged reverse lock picking, polymorphing, the tuning fork, and some giant's might, the team might manage to pull it off, albeit not nearly as smoothly as they'd hope to be.In the town, Bob is putting on a grand show of being the "voice of Hastur" with an unwilling Ursus in tow and given the most unflattering of names. They are certainly getting a lot of attention and are sure that the priest in town has caught wind of this imposter. Dona, who keeps watch as a lookout, slips away after and catches the tail end of "mass". Slipping into the shadows, she hears a language she doesn't recognize and continues deeper to get a better look at what's going on, only to see the priest kneeling and speaking in hushed tones. The team reconvenes at a bar and catches each other up on what transpired. Dona recalls what the priest said, despite not understanding the language, and Ursus confirms that it is Abyssal. It reveals a conversation between the priest and someone up north, warning about the group causing trouble. With that, final plans are made, and the pieces are set. We finish as the group notices a few onlookers glaring at the party, their faces tense. Ursus shouts, "WHO WANTS A ROUND OF DRINKS ON ME?!" This cuts some of the tension short of a handful of patrons who are still visibly glaring. Valen makes his way "drunkenly" towards them, using Bob's singing as a distraction to exploit Mindsplinter's ability to detect thoughts. The spell tells Valen that they were given orders to take the party out. Here at D&SD Over the Summer on Wednesdays we will be releasing some of our cool side campaign episodes! This series is called “The Playa Rose” is a western campaign DM'd by our Very own Andrew Kornblatt. Tunnels, Traps, and Musical Nightmares With the party split, we follow the defenders at Trail's homestead as they prepare for the Pusheen Brothers' promised return. The trio hatches an elaborate three-part defense plan: Ol' Mac D will dig an escape tunnel system to the bottom of the gorge (complete with traps and dead ends), they'll create pit traps spiked with hallucinogenic cactus needles, and manufacture crude flash-bang grenades. Mac D's tunnel-digging reveals an existing underground passage system, adding mystery to their defensive preparations. As they take a midday siesta on the porch during the blazing heat, Marshal hears haunting music approaching. When he investigates, he finds four musicians playing an eerie tune that raises his hackles - but when he turns to warn the others, both the music and the musicians have vanished. The psychological warfare begins as the music returns, audible to all. Those who speak Abyssal understand the sinister lyrics. For a full hour, the otherworldly melodies assault their minds, requiring periodic Charisma checks to resist the supernatural influence.
