The Democratic Alliance has called on the Gauteng Provincial Legislature's ethics committee to investigate corruption allegations against Premier Panyaza Lesufi. The party claims Lesufi failed to address widespread corruption within the Department of Social Development (DSD), involving money laundering and fraud that cost the provincial government hundreds of millions of rands meant for struggling NGOs. Lesufi is alleged to have played a key role in covering up this corruption. However, Premier Lesufi has denied the accusations, stating that he was not in office during some of the incidents mentioned in the allegations. For more on this Elvis Presslin spoke to Refiloe Nt'sekhe, DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Social Development

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi is allegedly a central figure in a massive cover-up of rampant corruption, money laundering and fraud that has cost the provincial government hundreds of millions of rand that was allocated to the Department of Social Development (DSD) to support needy NGOs. That is according to a whistleblower being represented by AfriForum's Private Prosecution Unit. In this interview with BizNews, the unit's spokesperson Barry Bateman says the whistleblower is “a very senior person” with “intimate knowledge of what Panyaza and senior officials in the department have allegedly been doing”. Bateman adds: “The buck has to stop somewhere. We say it stops at Premier Lesufi. We expect a letter from the Premier. We have written formally. We would like to see a response to our questions… Failing that, we will explore other avenues to hold the officials accountable. We have not ruled out approaching the courts…”

It still remains unclear what the outcome was of a meeting between the ANC national leadership and its Gauteng leadership. This follows the summoning of the province's Premier and chairperson of the party, Panyaza Lesufi to Luthuli House over his utterances on the formation of the Government of National Unity. The ANC's secretary general, Fikile Mbalula had written to Lesufi asking him to explain why his utterances should not be considered a violation of the party's constitution. After another week of political volatility on coalition level, United Independent Movement President Neil de Beer names the main contenders for next President of the African National Congress - and predicts SA will stay in the Government of National Unity if it is current International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola, who has “absolutely been schooled” by President Cyril Ramaphosa. However, he believes that if it is current Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi - who is “on a major push to garnish as much power as he can” or Vice President Paul Mashatile “we are going to go in for a rough ride”. De Beer describes the ousting of Tshwane's Democratic Alliance Mayor Cilliers Brink as “a constructed battle plan forged in the doldrums and cauldrons of the Lesufi cave to absolutely ensure that he and his clan, he and his faction,, take Gauteng”. He analyses the sabre rattling from DA Federal Council Chair Helen Zille at “her arch nemesis” ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula. De Beer also comments on Israel's airstrike on the Hezbollah HQ in Beirut, and warns: “For the first time in a very long time this world is standing at the edge of a full-blown World War.”
The Democratic Alliance Mayor of Tshwane, Cilliers Brink, was today toppled in a Vote of No Confidence. In his reaction, Neil De Beer, the President of the United Independent Movement, says this is part of the strategy of African National Congress Premier Panyaza Lesufi. “And this, if you look at it as a stick of dynamite and you put the fuse, I will tell you today the first fuse was lit in the Joburg Metro a couple of months ago. The second one is now lit in Tshwane and I predict the third one, it's on its way to Ekurhuleni. It is my opinion, and this will have to be proved in the future, that no doubt Mr. Lesufi is putting his huge, huge card on the table for the national conference of the ANC in two years. I think you've got a faction rising.”
In his latest Sunday Show with BizNews, United Independent Movement President Neil de Beer gives his take on the political dramas of the past week: Democratic Alliance leader John Steenhuisen's failed blackmail attempt of President Cyril Ramaphosa over the signing of the BELA Bill, and having to get rid of his Chief of Staff; Deputy President Paul Mashatile's public collapse, possibly because of food poisoning, and many ANC supporters clamouring for Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi to take his place; the torrents of opposing sentiment unleashed by the death of former Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan and his controversial legacy. He also speaks about how Economic Freedom Fighters CIC Julius Malema is being politically slaughtered by former President Jacob Zuma's MKP. And before he weighs in on the latest Presidential debate in the US, De Beer names the Flop of the Week and the Hero of the Week.
In this week's Sunday Show with Neil de Beer, he dissects the coalition battles between the DA and ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba in Gauteng, where Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink is becoming “cannon fodder”, and between the FF Plus in the Western Cape where Corné Mulder “is not standing back and has decided to continue removing the DA out of power”. De Beer asks: “..what the hell is going on in the spirit of the GNU. Because everything that is happening on the top shelf is absolutely collapsing on the bottom end…it seems we're going for a full blown war in 2026 between the parties.” De Beer describes how ANC Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Vice-President Paul Mashatile are positioning themselves towards the ANC elective conference. “…Lesufi is 100% making himself politically relevant. You can clearly see that Paul Mashatile is dreading either the knock of The Hawks or the people just staying calm so that he can take that seat.” De Beer also speaks about the battle for the soul of the judiciary with Justice Minister Thembi Simelane and former judge John Hlophe in the firing line. And PA Minister Gayton Mckenzie gets a thumbs up from him for his handling of a Parliamentary war-of-words with EFF CIC Julius Malema.
