Years of collapsing service delivery have destroyed trust in politics among some residents in the North West. They have expressed mixed feelings about the ANC's eight mayoral applicants for the Rustenburg Local Municipality, ahead of the much-anticipated local government elections in November. Initially only one candidate per municipality were supposed to be unveiled, instead the ANC announced the names of all who applied in, Sandton on Saturday. Some residents remain doubtful that the applicants will bring meaningful change, while others are hopeful. SABC News reporter Thabang Morutloa compiled this report

Customer Success shouldn't be selling. That's exactly why it drives more revenue growth. Scott Lerner believes the biggest opportunity in B2B sales isn't winning new customers. It's what happens after the deal is signed. Most customer success teams are measured on expansion. Scott believes that's where many organizations start solving the wrong problem. The moment every conversation becomes commercial, you stop being a trusted advisor and start becoming just another vendor. On the B2B Sales Trends Podcast, Harry sits down with Scott Lerner, Senior Vice President of Global Services at Akamai Technologies, to explore why the renewal starts the day the contract is signed, why many services organizations are trapped in what he calls "hour's jail," and why customer outcomes matter more than billable hours. Scott challenges several assumptions many sales leaders still believe: • The renewal starts the day the deal closes, not when the contract expires. • Customer Success should uncover opportunities but avoid negotiating deals. • Price is rarely the real reason customers leave. • Today's buyers need better questions, not more product education. • AI is making the traditional services model harder to defend than ever before.

Good services don't start with the city's org chart or budget lines. They start by understanding the resident's actual journey — and all the hidden time, paperwork, and friction that comes with it. Host Stephen Goldsmith speaks with Dr. Kim Leary, director of the Good Services Lab at the Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University, about how listening is an active skill, why selection bias shapes who gets heard, and how cities can use AI and resident-centered design to create services that actually work for everyone. In this episode, you'll learn: Why "good services" means residents can find, understand, and use them without insider knowledge How selection bias shapes civic engagement and why mayors must ask "who's not in the room?" How AI can help identify missing constituencies and unnoticed solutions in comparable cities Why organizing around the resident's journey changes service delivery How to measure progress at baseline, midpoint, and endpoint to track what's actually improving Guest: Dr. Kim Leary – clinical psychologist, professor, and director of the Good Services Lab at the Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University Listener Survey: bit.ly/datasmartpod Music credit: Summer-Man by Ketsa About Data-Smart City Solutions Data-Smart City Solutions, housed at the Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University, is working to catalyze the adoption of data projects on the local government level by serving as a central resource for cities interested in this emerging field.
