In the latest edition of the Electoral Roadshow with Analyst Wayne Sussman and Chris Steyn, last night's by-election results are dissected for important political party trends in this Local Government Election year. It was a big night for the Patriotic Alliance (PA) and its leader Gayton McKenzie as his party were able to win not just one, but two seats off the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape, with PA support growing from 1% to 60% in the one ward. “…the DA will be worried that they lost these two seats. They should be greatly worried. The PA…just continues to grow.” The DA also had a bad night in Tshwane where the Freedom Front came very close to beating the DA and causing “another major political shock…” The FF+'s support grew from 16% to 44% in the contested ward. Sussman also comments on the probable reason for the Pan-Africanist Congress' (PAC's) withdrawal from its working arrangement with the African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng. Lastly, he previews the most important upcoming by-elections.

Tshwane's numbers tell a very different story — and I share one from my past I've never told before.

The City of Tshwane says it is working to restore power supply to affected areas following days of heavy downpours. Several parts of Pretoria have been without power since Tuesday, with suburbs like Brooklyn, Sunnyside, Menlo Park, and Gezina among those affected. The Democratic Alliance has accused the city's administration of failing to respond to the crisis saying the situation is unacceptable. The city has yet to provide a timeline for when power will be fully restored. Elvis Presslin spoke to the DA Tshwane Caucus Leader, Cilliers Brink

Bongani Bingwa speaks to Dr Nasiphi Moyo, Mayor of Tshwane, about the sweeping clean-up operation currently underway in Pretoria’s inner city. Over the past week, several buildings posing as bars, clubs, and “gentlemen’s spots” have been shut down after authorities uncovered that they were operating as fronts for brothels, human trafficking networks, and a range of illicit activities. City enforcement teams have been combing through the CBD, closing unsafe establishments, arresting suspects, and enforcing by-laws that have long gone ignored. The raids have also revealed undocumented workers, drug dens, and troubling signs of collusion between certain city officials and criminal operators. As frustration grows among residents demanding safer streets and a revitalised capital, Mayor Moyo says this is only the first phase of a broader effort to reclaim the city. She joins us this morning to unpack what’s happening on the ground and outline what comes next in Tshwane’s aggressive clean-up campaign. 702 Breakfast with Bongani Bingwa is broadcast on 702, a Johannesburg based talk radio station.
In this episode of The Pioneer Podcast, Cilliers Brink, a prominent DA leader and former mayor of Tshwane, discuss the complex landscape of metro politics, economic challenges, and governance strategies in South Africa. We delve into the political instability caused by coalition chaos, the enduring influence of ANC networks rooted in the 1997 Mafikeng deployment policy, and the urgent need to weaken entrenched corruption. Brink shares his perspectives on restoring financial stability, rebuilding infrastructure, and embracing "functional federalism" to empower local governments. The discussion also touches on national leadership and the personal mindset required to lead effectively under pressure.
In Today's BizNews Briefing, South Africa's “Boere Buffett” Jannie Mouton leaves a R7bn legacy by turning Curro into a non-profit. Tshwane's corruption scandals deepen as Cilliers Brink speaks out, while Denel's mismanagement haunts taxpayers. Peter Major unpacks gold's explosive run, the FT highlights Bitcoin's role in collapsing Venezuela, and corporate results from Rainbow Chicken, Impala Platinum and Harmony Gold.
In today's BizNews Briefing, MTN chairman Mcebisi Jonas claims he is the target of a treasonous “info war” undermining US–SA ties, while critics question his diplomatic role and MTN's dealings in Iran. DA's Tshwane mayoral candidate Cilliers Brink stresses why citizen engagement is vital to fixing broken cities. On the global stage, Apple weighs using Google's Gemini AI for Siri, and markets dissect Fed Chair Jerome Powell's Jackson Hole message. Evelyn Farkas examines Russia's grip on Trump and security guarantees for Ukraine. Plus, Rassie Erasmus reflects on the Springboks' gritty 30–22 win over Australia in Cape Town.
In the latest Sunday Show, Chris Steyn hosts Renaldo Gouws, former Parliamentarian, podcaster and industrial psychologist. He speaks about the litany of woes besetting the once mighty African National Congress (ANC) that is now “bleeding” support: the breaking of ranks by Senzo Mchunu, the Police Minister on special leave, and long-time Jacob Zuma ally Malusi Gigaba. He warns that the raging factional battles in the party could force out President Cyril Ramaphosa if a secret ballot is allowed in the upcoming Vote of No Confidence. Gouws questions the “attempted hijacking” narrative around the attack on Police Portfolio Committee Chair Ian Cameron, as well as the political relevance of Deputy Defence Minister Bantu Holomisa who threw an on-air tantrum last week. Gouws further dissects the “double standards” at the heart of the saga of Kleinfontein, the Whites-only settlement threatened with demolition by the City of Tshwane. He also comments on his own Press Ombudsman victory against News24.
Bongani Bingwa speaks to Aaron Maluleka, City of Tshwane’s Human Settlements MMC, about the municipality’s stance that Kleinfontein’s 2013 application for recognition is outdated and invalid under current bylaws. The metro is now asking the court to compel the community to submit a new application under the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act. 702 Breakfast with Bongani Bingwa is broadcast on 702, a Johannesburg based talk radio station.

John Maytham is joined by Advocate Craig Watt-Pringle to unpack the recent Labour Court ruling that partially favoured the City of Tshwane in its wage exemption dispute. Having studied the full 70-page judgment, Watt-Pringle explains why only part of the ruling holds broader public interest and breaks down the legal principles behind exemptions in collective bargaining agreements. Presenter John Maytham is an actor and author-turned-talk radio veteran and seasoned journalist. His show serves a round-up of local and international news coupled with the latest in business, sport, traffic and weather. The host’s eclectic interests mean the program often surprises the audience with intriguing book reviews and inspiring interviews profiling artists. A daily highlight is Rapid Fire, just after 5:30pm. CapeTalk fans call in, to stump the presenter with their general knowledge questions. Another firm favourite is the humorous Thursday crossing with award-winning journalist Rebecca Davis, called “Plan B”.
