In the latest edition of the NdB Sunday Show with Chris Steyn and US Intelligence Analyst retired Colonel Chris Wyatt, he says he suspects that there is a sealed warrant in the United States for the arrest of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Commander-in-Chief Julius Malema over calling for the killing of US President Donald Trump a year ago. Wyatt was reacting to Malema's latest utterance in which he labelled Trump a devil and a fool for his controversial actions against various countries. Wyatt gives his take on possible future leaders of both the African National Congress (ANC) (including Patrice Motsepe) and the Democratic Alliance (DA). He lists the reasons Trump didn't invite President Cyril Ramaphosa to his Peace Board at Davos. He also slams South Africa's failure to support that vote for a special session by the United Nations Human Rights Council over deteriorating human rights conditions in Iran. He expresses outrage over the promotion of Brig Genl Solly Lechoenyo - accused of murdering Hawks Investigator Lt Col Frans Mathipa - to head Special Forces, and charges that Defence Minister Angie Motshekga is “destroying what's left” of the South African National Defense Force (SANDF).

The East London Regional Court in the Eastern Cape heard pre-sentencing arguments against Malema. The case has been postponed to the 15th and 16th of April for aggravation and mitigation of sentence. Malema, was convicted in October last year for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm in a built-up area and reckless endangerment. A series of adverse legal findings has put both Julius Malema's seat in Parliament and his position on the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) in jeopardy. Should he be served a severe sentence for his firearm offences, he will be disqualified from being a member of the National Assembly. South African politician Julius Malema's song "Shoot the Boer" sparks controversy, with critics calling it hate speech. Courts ruled it symbolic, not literal, tied to anti-apartheid activism. While President Ramaphosa's party no longer sings it, Malema's EFF sees it as a protest against injustice.

Today Africa Daily's Mpho Lakaje sits down with firebrand South African politician Julius Malema, the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). They discuss a variety of topics ranging from the party's ideology, its policy on immigration to its stance on nation building. The EFF lost its position as South Africa's third biggest political party, following the May 2024 election. “There was a phenomenon that arose in South Africa of MK (Umkhonto Wesizwe Party) which we underestimated and never thought would have the impact it did”, Mr. Malema says of his party's election performance. He also opens up about the recent departures of key EFF leaders, including the party's co-founder and deputy president Floyd Shivambu.
