Join John and Bill with special guest Jeff Greenstein of the smash hit I Dream of Cameras to talk about everything Leicaflex. Everyone connects the names Leitz and Leica with rangefinders, from the classic Barnack to the modern M-Series. And while that is what Leica is known for, they also saw that SLRs were becoming popular in the 1960s and decided to throw their hat into the ring. In 1964, they released the Leicaflex, an SLR based around their own R-Mount. The program dates back to 1955, when Ludwig Leitz was urged by Walther Benser to develop an SLR, as Benser believed SLRs would become popular. The Leicaflex was followed by the SL in 1968 and the SL2 in 1972. A technology-sharing partnership with Minolta in 1971 led to the introduction of the R-Series of Leicaflexes, starting with the Leica R3 in 1976. The R4 in 1980, the R5 in 1987, the R6 a year later, and then the R7. The 1990s brought a radical redesign of the R-Series with the R8 and R9. The entire series ended in 2009. The one thing to look out for is the R-Mount lenses; these come in several categories. One Cam lens works only with the original Leicaflex. Two Cam lenses are good for the SL and SL2. They will work on the R3, but you need to do stop-down metering. Three-Cam lenses are the cream of the crop, as they work flawlessly on the R3 through R9 and the SL/SL2. There's also the R-Cam for R3-R9 only, and the R-ROM for R8 & R9 only.

La historia de Renault en España es una historia de éxito, ligada indisolublemente a las factorías de Valladolid y Palencia. Sin embargo, para entender por qué muchos modelos emblemáticos de la "Régie" francesa nunca llegaron a nuestras carreteras, debemos analizar el contexto sociopolítico de las décadas de los 50, 60 y 70. En aquel entonces, España era un mercado autárquico protegido por un "muro de cristal" en los Pirineos: los aranceles. Importar un coche terminado de Francia podía suponer pagar más del 100% de su valor en impuestos, lo que convertía a los Renault franceses en mitos que solo veíamos cuando llegaban los turistas en verano. FASA (Fabricación de Automóviles Sociedad Anónima) fabricaba bajo licencia, pero con una condición estricta: los coches debían tener un altísimo porcentaje de componentes nacionales. Si un modelo era tecnológicamente complejo o su mercado potencial era pequeño —como los coupés, las grandes berlinas o los motores V6—, traer la maquinaria específica a Valladolid simplemente no salía a cuenta. Hoy realizamos un viaje por esos Renault desconocidos que marcaron una época al otro lado de la frontera. Los pioneros y las berlinas de lujo El Renault Colorale (1950-1957) es quizás uno de los modelos más fascinantes y olvidados. Mucho antes de que se inventara el término SUV, el Colorale ofrecía una carrocería familiar enorme, robusta y con versiones 4x4 desarrolladas por especialistas. Por otro lado, el Renault Frégate (1951-1960) representaba la elegancia francesa de posguerra. Una berlina de líneas fluidas y suspensión independiente a las cuatro ruedas que competía directamente con el Citroën 11 Ligero. Mientras en Francia era el coche de representación por excelencia, en España ese hueco lo ocupó Seat con el 1400. FASA estaba tan saturada produciendo el 4/4 y el Dauphine que meter una berlina de 4,7 metros en la línea de montaje era logísticamente inviable. La revolución del diseño y el rechazo al portón Uno de los casos más curiosos es el del Renault 16 (1965-1980). Es, posiblemente, el modelo que más añoran los entusiastas. Fue una revolución: mezclaba la elegancia de una berlina con la practicidad de una furgoneta gracias a su quinta puerta. Sin embargo, la directiva de FASA cometió un error de apreciación histórico: creían que el comprador español asociaba el portón trasero con los vehículos de carga y que un coche de "estatus" debía tener maletero separado. En la misma línea de exclusividad encontramos el Renault Rambler (1962-1967). Gracias a una alianza con la americana AMC, Renault comercializó este gigante de 6 cilindros en Europa. Era un "sofá con ruedas" lleno de cromados que, sencillamente, no cabía por las estrechas calles de las ciudades españolas de la época. Coupés, inyección y el poder del V6 Llegados los años 70, la gama se diversificó en Francia con los Renault 15 y 17. Eran los "hermanos guapos" del R12. El R15 era la opción de acceso, mientras que el R17 presentaba un diseño mucho más agresivo, con cuatro faros redondos y persianas en el pilar C que le daban un aire de "mini Muscle Car". El techo de la gama lo marcaron los Renault 20 y 30. El R30 fue el primer Renault de seis cilindros en décadas, equipado con el motor V6 PRV. Con frenos de disco ventilados y dirección asistida de serie, era una joya técnica. Sin embargo, la fiscalidad española penalizaba duramente los motores de gran cilindrada, y Renault España no quiso entrar en una guerra directa con las marcas de importación como BMW o Mercedes que empezaban a asomar tímidamente. Versiones "picantes" y el sueño del Safrane Incluso cuando los modelos sí llegaban a España, a menudo nos perdíamos las versiones más prestacionales. Es el caso del Renault 9 Turbo, que en Francia era un deportivo ligero y rapidísimo con el motor del R5 Copa Turbo, mientras que aquí el R9 mantuvo siempre una imagen seria de "coche de médico o maestro". El último gran "prohibido" fue el Renault Safrane Biturbo (1994-1996). En los 90 las fronteras ya estaban abiertas, pero este coche era una locura comercial. Con tracción total y 268 CV, su precio hoy equivaldría a más de 200.000 euros. Fue un fantasma en nuestras carreteras, un intento de Renault de golpear a los BMW M5 que demostraba de lo que era capaz la ingeniería francesa cuando se le daba vía libre.

This conversation blew me away. My friend and mentor Darren Jacklin was back in the studio. And this dude has lived a life that most people wouldn't believe. Homeless. On welfare. R9 credit rating which is the worst you can get. Special education from grade 1 to grade 12. Never went to college or university. Most people would have bet against him ever amounting to anything. Fast forward to today. Multi-millionaire. Has rung the closing bell at NASDAQ three times. Independent director at EXP Realty with 90,000 agents. Taking another company public this week. And he's got over 7,000 written documented goals with a target to hit 10,000. But the most incredible part isn't the business success. It's the personal transformation. We talked about personal promises versus goals. How he doesn't manage people but manages people's promises. Why all we are as human beings is a network of conversations. And how strangers have everything you want, need and desire in your life. The key is making requests and keeping promises. This episode is about stopping the lies you tell yourself. At the formative age of one, his four-year-old sister died from complications due to open-heart surgery. This greatly impacted his family. From an early age, Darren had difficulty reading and writing and was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. This resulted in him being put on Ritalin. He then failed and repeated grade one. Darren was then enrolled in a special education class for the rest of his educational years.Throughout public school, Darren had difficulty focusing on school and making friends. His parents were told that he would not amount to much in life.At the age of seven, he started a business called “Rent a Kid”. His business included shoveling snow off sidewalks, mowing lawns, and delivering the Regina Leader-Post six days a week. His need for external approval and validation were his driving force.In school, Darren felt awkward and invisible. In grade eleven, after his parents' divorce, a high school teacher and guidance counselor sat him down one afternoon. He was told that based on his academic achievement, he probably would not go very far in life, or amount to much. Not only did this further damage his self-confidence, but it also triggered a relentless drive to prove everyone wrong. For years following that conversation, Darren did whatever he could to be liked, loved, accepted, and understood. Following High School, he tried multiple suicide attempts, including driving his car at 140-km / 85-mph into a telephone pole. Darren was also a passenger in a car that went out of control on an icy hill and rolled over a forty-foot embankment. He was ejected through the windshield of the car. That day, Darren nearly lost his life. It then took him months to learn how to walk again.In his early twenties, he received a settlement from this car accident. Combining this with his income from his “Rent a Kid” business and a few other business ventures throughout his adolescence, Darren unwittingly signed for loans and lines of credit with unscrupulous investors. Lawyers and collection agencies were now harassing him. His car was repossessed, bank accounts frozen, water and electricity were disconnected, and he was evicted from his apartment. Within four months he was broke and homeless.Hitting rock bottom, he was forced to collect welfare, living on the streets, and sleeping in an apple orchard.

The opening round of the 2025 WorldSBK season is in the books and Nicolo Bulega dominated the opening weekend. It was a textbook weekend for the Aruba.it Ducati rider but as Steve and Gordo explain it also meant the stories of the weekend were elsewhere. Most of the stories focused on Toprak Razgatlioglu and his BMW. On Sunday evening the reigning champion dropped a bombshell that he would consider quiting the series if changes weren't made. Was it postering? As Gordo explains the weekend wasn't quite as bad as a 20 point haul would indicate. Yamaha confirmed that Augusto Fernandez would replace Jonathan Rea for the next round but how was their race weekend? Bimota are back in WorldSBK and left Australia pleased with their opening gambit.
