ActionSA has announced plans to table the Parliamentary and Provincial Medical Aid Scheme (PARMED) Amendment Bill in Parliament. The bill seeks to end compulsory membership in the scheme for Members of Parliament and other public office bearers. Instead, membership in this scheme would be voluntary. For more on this, we spoke to Member of Parliament, Dr Kgosi Letlape, who is sponsoring the proposal..

H Mashaba on ActionSA's 5th anniversary and its 'neutral' stance on Palestine by Radio Islam
ActionSA YESTERDAY celebrated its 5th anniversary. The party was launched on 29 August during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020. The party has since grown into a significant opposition force, governing Tshwane, securing six seats in parliament, and becoming the 7th largest party nationally. Over the years, it has championed many causes including calls for firmer action against illegal immigration and supporting the Lily Mine families. Bongiwe Zwane spoke to Action SA founding president, Herman Mashaba
ActionSA has condemned what it says is the intimidation of Ms. Luyanda, a South African spaza shop owner in Dobsonville, Soweto. The party says during a routine bread delivery, Ms. Luyanda was threatened by a neighboring Pakistani shop owner, who demanded she shut down her business or face consequences. ActionSA calls this unacceptable, highlighting a pattern of such incidents with no action taken against perpetrators. Elvis Presslin spoke to ActionSA Johannesburg Regional Secretary, Lebo Mokoka...
ActionSA has slammed the Department of Health for approving radio ads claiming vaping is as harmful as smoking cigarettes. The party calls the statement false and misleading, citing scientific evidence that vaping poses fewer risks than combustible cigarettes. ActionSA accuses the Department of spreading propaganda and undermining Parliament by presenting unpassed provisions of the Tobacco Products and Electronic Delivery Systems Control Bill as law. The Bill remains under review by the Portfolio Committee on Health. Elvis Presslin spoke to ActionSA MP Dr. Kgosi Letlape
Jet-setting ministers have cost the taxpayers more than R273m in travel costs. According to ActionSA's GNU tracker, ministers have spent R273m on travel, accommodation, stipends and related costs since July 2024, covering both domestic and international trips. The tracker excludes salaries and capital assets and is updated continuously. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Dr Kagiso TK Pooe, a public policy specialist at the Wits School of Governance and ActionSA's MP Alan Beesley
Athol Trollip, Member of the National Assembly and ActionSA leader, joins the conversation amid growing concern that the upcoming National Dialogue is unravelling before it begins. The Democratic Alliance has dismissed the event as a costly “talk shop” and called for its cancellation. Prominent civil society organisations, including the Steve Biko Foundation and the Thabo Mbeki Foundation, have withdrawn, citing a lack of credibility and meaningful engagement. Trollip reveals that ActionSA is also reconsidering its involvement, arguing that South Africans are desperate for tangible action on the economy and jobs—not more political theatre. With growing scepticism from both political and civil society actors, we explore whether the National Dialogue still serves the public interest or has become a stage-managed exercise in optics. 702 Breakfast with Bongani Bingwa is broadcast on 702, a Johannesburg based talk radio station. ActionSA has lodged a complaint against Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie with the South African Human Rights Commission. The complaint is over alleged racist remarks in old social media posts where McKenzie reportedly used Apartheid-era slurs against black South Africans. ActionSA is also taking action against Minister Dean Macpherson for allegedly using racially charged language against party supporters. Elvis Presslin spoke to ActionSA MP, Alan Beesley
Forensic investigator Paul O'Sullivan has come out swinging—accusing KwaZulu-Natal police boss Lt. Gen. Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi of criminality and calling ActionSA's Athol Trollip a liar. In an explosive 18-page dossier and this follow-up interview with Alec Hogg, O'Sullivan lays out his case: a police service captured at the highest level, a slush fund ballooning to R600 million, luxury gifts from shady suppliers, extrajudicial killings, and a nation dangerously fooled by a uniform. He joins the dots—and what emerges is nothing short of a bombshell.
Opposition parties have criticized the appointment of ANC MP Soviet Lekganyane as chair of the parliamentary committee investigating allegations of police corruption made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. The EFF, uMkhonto weSizwe Party and ActionSA expressed concerns over an ANC member leading the probe, citing potential bias due to the involvement of ANC figures like suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu in Mkhwanazi's claims. Lekganyane, elected unopposed, defended his role, stating he serves the country's interests, not just his party's. The committee has until October 31 to report its findings. Elvis Presslin spoke to Sibonelo Nomvalo, MK Party Member of Parliament

ActionSA parliamentary leader Athol Trollip has laid criminal charges against forensic investigator Paul O'Sullivan after a barrage of threats and accusations. Trollip says he was simply calling for urgent investigation into police corruption, but won't be intimidated from doing his job as an MP. Trollip spoke to BizNews' Alec Hogg.
ActionSA Parliamentary Leader, Athol Trollip MP, is today laying criminal charges against forensic investigator Paul O'Sullivan at the Cape Town Central Police Station. ActionSA says this follows a series of intimidation tactics and direct threats issued by O'Sullivan towards Trollip. ActionSA views these actions as a direct attack on an elected official and believes that such conduct must be dealt with in accordance with the law. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC parliamentary reporter, Bulelani Philip
ActionSA has introduced a constitutional amendment bill aimed at overhauling the executive branch of government. The proposed bill seeks to abolish the positions of 43 deputy ministers, citing redundancy and financial waste. The party's parliamentary leader, Athol Trollip, argues that this move will save South Africa billions of rands and promote accountability in government. Elvis Presslin spoke to Athol Trollip to elaborate on his sentiments

Bongani Bingwa speaks with ActionSA Member of Parliament Lerato Ngobeni about the growing outcry over secretive government spending. At the center of the controversy is Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, who has refused to disclose her travel expenses, opting instead to submit them to a secret intelligence committee. Four months have passed with no transparency, prompting ActionSA to accuse the Presidency of shielding misconduct. Ngobeni calls it a ‘slap in the face’ of public accountability, especially as ordinary South Africans face economic hardship. If other ministers can declare their travel costs, why is this one hiding? The conversation delves into what this secrecy says about governance and trust under the Government of National Unity (GNU). 702 Breakfast with Bongani Bingwa is broadcast on 702, a Johannesburg based talk radio station. ActionSA Proposes Constitutional Changes to Restrict Undocumented Immigrants' Access to Basic Rights by Radio Islam

John Maytham is joined by Daily Maverick Associate Editor Ferial Haffajee to unpack her latest article on South Africa’s coalition government . Together, they explore three potential scenarios for the country’s Government of National Unity (GNU) – from an uneasy ANC – DA alliance straining under mutual distrust, to a rebooted coalition without the DA that brings in newcomers like ActionSA and Build One South Africa (BOSA), and even a populist partnership with the EFF in the mix.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

John Maytham is joined by Build One South Africa (BOSA) leader and Appropriations Committee chairperson Mmusi Maimane to unpack the turbulent state of the Government of National Unity. As tensions flare between the ANC and DA over the 2025/26 Budget, especially the controversial VAT hike, Maimane weighs in on whether the DA’s exit signals the rise of a new coalition. With BOSA and ActionSA having helped the ANC pass the fiscal framework, a slimmer GNU 2.0 may be taking shape. Maimane explores what this means for parliamentary accountability, economic reform, and the future of coalition governance in South Africa.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
John Maytham is joined by Dr Gumani Tshimomola, Senior Researcher for the Economic Freedom Fighters, to unpack the legal and political reality behind South Africa’s upcoming VAT hike. Dr Tshimomola argues the 0.5 percent increase set for 1 May 2025 is already law and cannot be reversed by coalition promises or press statements. He explains the constitutional rules around money bills and criticises the Government of National Unity for creating public confusion. They also explore what this means for struggling households and the future of South Africa’s fiscal accountability.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Herman Mashaba, President of ActionSA, joins John Maytham to discuss the party’s controversial role in helping advance South Africa’s 2025 budget process. This comes after ActionSA’s Alan Beesley introduced a recommendation backed by the ANC and IFP to find alternative revenue sources within 30 days, effectively side-lining the proposed VAT hike. While ActionSA claims it spared South Africans a cost of living blow, critics like the DA accuse it of enabling unchecked ANC spending.
