This week on the show Brian and Harrison are joined by Olympic Champion Lydia Lassila. Lydia is a former Australian freestyle skier (Aerials) and entrepreneur. She is a 5x Winter Olympian, winning Gold at Vancouver in 2010 and Bronze at Sochi in 2014. A trailblazer in her sport, she continually pushed the progression of her sport no matter the consequences, she is undoubtably one of Australia's greatest ever athletes. She is inspiring, incredibly resilient and has always maintained the very Aussie philosophy that it is just all about ‘having a crack', she delt with devastating injuries, took time away to start a family and many more challenges, but always got through with sheer grit and determination. As a youngster, Lydia was a talented gymnast with dreams of competing at the Olympics, injuries and opportunities forced her to give up her dream, but when a former coach called her and said that they were starting a pilot program that's goal was to turn gymnasts into aerial skiers, and with the carrot of the Olympics dangling, she was all in without hesitation, the only problem was, at that stage, Lydia had never skied before. Within 18 months, she competed at the Olympics in 2002 (Salt Lake City) and by the Olympics in 2018 (PyeongChang) she was one of Australia's most decorated and inspirational Winter Olympic athletes. In 2016, Lydia released a fantastic documentary called ‘The Will To Fly', which follows her journey to the 2014 Olympics, documenting her career to date and her experiences as mum and competing in one of the world's most dangerous sports. Lydia is also the founder of two businesses BodyICE (ice and heat therapy products) and Zone by Lydia (sustainable yoga gear). With the dream of winning an olympic gold medal, Jakara Anthony decided as a teenager that she would start skiing full-time. By 2022 she recorded the most successful season by an Australian winter sports athlete in history. At the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, Jakara won every round of the competition to become just Australia's sixth ever winter gold medallist, and the first since Lydia Lassila in 2010. In the 2023-2024 World Cup season, she won an incredible 14 World Cup events, which is the most ever by a mogul skier in a single season. I absolutely loved hearing more about the way Jakara prepares to perform. For her, it's not about the podiums and the records, it's about challenging what is possible not only for her, but for women in the sport as a whole. Lydia Lassila is one of Australia's all-time Olympic greats, having won aerials Gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, and then become the first ever woman to complete a quad-twisting triple somersault at the 2014 Games in Sochi. Lydia says “playing it safe is not my style”, and she used all of that resilience to get her through the depths of despair in 2006, when she tore her ACL apart, twice, in the space of six months. That time of agony was also the genesis of her creation-BodyICE. Experiencing first-hand the desperate lack of suitable ice and heat therapy products, Lydia created her own. BodyICE is now a global business operating in health, wellness and sports. Lydia uses the latest in tech, and also a deep understanding of mental and emotional wellbeing, to help create a wholistic approach to healing and recovery. Her BodyICE Woman range has been a game changer for women around the time of pregnancy and post-pregnancy, and also those having undergone major surgery. Today, Lydia gives us the inside story on an epic sporting career, and her global sensation- BodyICE.

In today’s episode, I interview Hannah Vasicek. Hannah shares her pregnancy and birth of her little girl Vienna. At 10 weeks Hannah found out she was having a little girl and she had the name Vienna picked for her girl's name for years so they immediately began calling her by her name. At 12 weeks gestation when they went in for their ultrasound, Hannah noticed the sonographer was taking a long time and she then left the room to get someone else to come and have a look. Hannah’s heart sank fearing the worst. The doctor explained that Vienna had a very rare condition called Amniotic Band Syndrome. Amniotic band syndrome is a rare condition caused by strands of the amniotic sac that separate and entangle digits, limbs, or other parts of the fetus. It is believed that amniotic band syndrome occurs when the inner membrane (amnion) ruptures, or tears, without injury to the outer membrane (chorion). They were unable to be certain however they believed that the band had attached on Vienna’s right arm. They wouldn’t know exactly until the 20 weeks scan where about the band had attached and how much of Vienna’s right arm would be affected. To hear how Vienna’s birth unfolded tune into this week’s episode. BodyICE Woman ice and heat packs were created to help women recover post childbirth and during breastfeeding. The range was created by Olympic Champ and mum of two Lydia Lassila after the birth of her first son in 2011.
