We have a special Christmas event. Our season one finale is with actors Holly Robinson Peete and Nik Sanchez. They star in the new hit Hallmark Film: Our Christmas Journey. We sit down and talk about what it means to be a family around someone with autism. This move shows the love and truth one such family goes through in raising a son with autism. This is near to our hearts as both Ben and Dan relate to different sides of this very story. To find more about the film : https://www.hallmarkmoviesandmysterie... More on holly As a single mom and her teenaged son with autism come to a crossroad during Christmas, she must learn to let go so he can flourish as she finds her own heart healing in unexpected ways. Starring Holly Robinson Peete, Lyriq Bent and Nik Sanchez. Actress, author, talk show host, activist and philanthropist Holly Robinson Peete has been touched by the entertainment industry almost of her life. Her career as an actress dates back more than three decades and has led her to becoming a voice for her father, her son and her community. She was recently seen at the center of Hallmark Channel's new and very first primetime family docu-series, “Meet the Peetes,” which returned for its second season in February 2019. Peete also starred in five “Morning Show Mysteries” originals for Hallmark Mysteries & Movies, and recently co-starred in the Hallmark original movie “Christmas in Evergreen: Letters to Santa.” Robinson Peete had her first experience in front of the camera at the age of four when she appeared on television opposite her father, Matthew Robinson, who served as a producer and portrayed the original beloved character of Gordon on the iconic children's program “Sesame Street.” While she knew even at that young age her calling was to be an actress, Robinson Peete opted to lead a typical childhood rather than searching to be the next child star. In 1997, Robinson Peete and her husband, former NFL quarterback Rodney Peete, formed the HollyRod Foundation, inspired by her father's courageous battle with Parkinson's disease, with the mission to help improve the quality of life of people with Parkinson's. Then in 2005, inspired by their eldest son's autism diagnosis, HollyRod Foundation's mission expanded to provide support and resources to those affected by an autism diagnosis. Through the HollyRod Foundation and her family's personal experiences, Robinson Peete has become one of the most trusted advocates for consistent and reliable education, outreach and support for both Parkinson's and autism. Her autism advocacy also extends to her book co-written with daughter, Ryan Elizabeth Peete, entitled My Brother Charlie (Scholastic): a bestselling, NAACP Image Award-winning children's book about autism from the sibling's perspective. With her first book Get Your Own Damn Beer, I'm Watching the Game: A Women's Guide to Loving Pro Football (2005, Rodale), Robinson Peete won the 2006 Quill Literacy Award. The follow-up to the children's book entitled Same But Different - Teen Life On The Autism Express –- which was co-authored by her twins Ryan Elizabeth & RJ – was released in spring 2016. More on the rising star Nik Sanchez Nik Sanchez is a budding young actor who just shot a lead role in Boris Kodjoe's upcoming film Safe Space opposite Nicole Ari Parker. He can also be seen recurring as Silas March on the successful ABC series “The Rookie.”

Newest podcast is out reviewing the newest Hallmark Movies and Mysteries releases titled Our Christmas Journey starring Holly Robinson Peete, Lyriq Bent and Nik Sanchez as well as Every Time the Bell Rings starring Erin Cahill, Brittany Ishibashi, Ali Liebert and Wes Brown. We both liked the movies. Both movies made history. Our Christmas Journey stars Nik Sanchez, the first autistic actor to play an autistic character. We just wish that we saw more of Marcus' POV throughout the movie, like a look inside of the program. Even though he is non-verbal, it doesn't mean communication is impossible. For a movie that totes about representation for the disabled community, the disabled character was silenced (I don't just mean by making Marcus non-verbal) and not really seen through his eyes. Every Time a Bell Rings was a great movie about three sisters. It made Hallmark Christmas movie featuring the first interracial lesbian kiss with Nora and Maizy. We enjoyed each sisters' storylines, also them looking for the bell, but the storyline with Charlotte and Liam was a weak point. It was definitely not needed. oin our newly minted Facebook group whose purpose is to highlight diversity and inclusion Hallmark Channel has taken. https://www.facebook.com/groups/421837762791433 Support the podcast and buy me a coffee. Tonight we will be discussing the popular Tyler Perry movie, Acrimony. In 2018, Taraji P Henson starred in the movie, Acrimony, playing the character Melinda Gayle. The movie depicted a woman relentlessly supporting her man (Robert, played by Lyriq Bent) through all of his ups and downs-from dating to marriage, including infidelity, joblessness, poverty, all with the hopes of seeing his dream come into fruition. Throughout their marriage, they faced ridicule from family who witnessed what they interpreted as unreciprocated and wasted support from one member of the marriage- Melinda. After finally having enough and at the recommendation of her sister, Melinda decided to leave her husband. Fast forward: Not long after their divorce and after connecting with another woman, Robert's dream was finally realized, and he received a very lucrative deal for his invention. This leads me to ask a few questions: 1. Did Melinda stay too long? 2. Do you think Robert grew up in the marriage? 3. Did it take another woman to help him accomplish his ultimate goal? 4. Was he required to compensate Melinda for her sacrifices? We will answer these questions and others?
