Director Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead & Spider-Man trilogies) just seemed born to apply his skills to a send-up of a spaghetti western and back in the mid '90's he got his chance.  You've got Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct) at the PEAK of her star-power playing the strong-but-silent type, a gunslinger coming to the town of Redemption seeking revenge and getting roped into a gun-duel tournament....Hackman taking his Oscar-winning thug sheriff role from Unforgiven up to 11 as the main villain....journeyman players like Lance Henricksen, Keith David, Pat Hingle, and Tobin Bell all having a blast.  PLUS you have a truly baby-faced Leo DiCaprio and youthful-looking Russell Crowe (in his American film debut) both bringing the heat with interesting supporting characters who form different types of bonds with Stone's protagonist.  What results is a high-energy genre hybrid which was a flop on initial release but has since built up a cult following as it now approaches it's thirtieth anniversary.  Let's find out who is the quickest....Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

It may be because we have had to watch seven of these movies, seven years in a row. It may be because we put it off for so long that we had to watch it during Thanksgiving instead of in October. It may just be the way the series goes. But this may truly have been the worst Saw movie we have experienced so far. Not only that, but at this point the traps are so avoidable we don't even have to spend much time strategizing. That way we have more time to misremember the plots of all the previous movies and complain about how we hate the one we just watched. And isn't that really what you come here for? Zach predicts Scrooge will be involved, Jared predicts piranhas will be involved, and Adam isn't allowed to predict because he's seen the movie already. Talking Points Include: Toad vs Cartman vs Jay Leno, An Extremely Late Snake Day Celebration, Jokes We Could Have Told, Attempting to Remember Saw Lore, Story and Trap Predictions, Cary Elwes' Lawsuit, A Clumsy Recap, Tobin Bell the Cool Teen, The True Alpha Male, Jigsaw Gets Woke, Our Future With Saw

In this episode, we discuss his previous career as a Washington Lobbyist, and what made him get out of that business. Then we talk about why he decided to not only be an actor; but also a writer, and producer. He shares stories about working with some of the greats; like Ed Asner, Tobin Bell, and Lance Henriksen in his newest film Altered Reality. Along the way, we touch on a couple of his previous films like Dark Horse & Monday At 11:01 A.M. Finally, we get into why it is important to be a distributer with his company K Street Pictures, and where that name comes from. I ask him why he decided to distribute films like Alex and Eve, and Last Call; and at what point he got involved with those projects. Charles also explains what the Covid pandemic did to the box office numbers of one of these films. He does explain some paintings and artists at the beginning to satisfy my nosey questions about the wall art at his home! Thanks for that Charles!

Box Office Pulp | Film Analysis, Movie Retrospectives, Commentary Tracks, Comedy, and More

With the Oscars behind us, many are taking a second look at the remarkable stories from last year that have been tragically overlooked by the academy. Tonight, Box Office Pulp would like to spotlight one such story, that of a humble engineer who forgot to cherish the little things, until a surprise diagnosis introduced him to a new hobby, a new gal, and a new lease on life. Before he can finish his life's work, though, he must rail against an uncaring medical system and stop the exploitative business practices of a corrupt institution, or else this will be one jigsaw puzzle left unsolved! In their final BOP n' A Movie audio commentary track on the series-- until next year, sat least-- the crew have finally reached Saw X, the John/Amanda reunion America didn't know it wanted. Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith are back in the playhouse, the script is free to set up absolutely nothing for a sequel, and there's an actual budget this time around, so does the THIRD return of a franchise that doesn't believe in letting itself die finally recapture the gruesome magic fans have been longing for since the original trilogy? Twenty years ago, the world was taken by storm by a reverse bear trap, a saw, and a little puppet named Billy. We're super excited to start our look back at the Saw franchise and discuss the influence it's had over the horror drama.  This week, we delve into Saw, the directorial debut of horror Daddy James Wan starring Carey Elwes, Leigh Whannell, Danny Glover, and introducing Tobin Bell. We delve into the performances, the work Wan and Whannell had to put in just to get someone to care about the project, and how they caught lightning in a bottle when they premiered at Sundance.  Guest Find Us Online - Website: www.realhorrorshowpodcast.com - Twitter: www.twitter.com/Horrorshowpod - Support: www.realhorrorshow.com/support/ - Submit: www.realhorrorshow.com/submission-guidelines/  Good Things to Support - Quileute Move to Higher Ground: https://mthg.org/  - Red Canary Song: https://www.redcanarysong.net/ - List of BLM Affiliated Charities: https://bit.ly/3wSMW47 Abortion Funds in Every State https://shoutyourabortion.com/abortion-pills/ https://aidaccess.org/ Support Families in Palestine  Credits - Host: Samantha Oty. Box Office Pulp | Film Analysis, Movie Retrospectives, Commentary Tracks, Comedy, and More

Like a good neighbor, cherish your life! Terrible jingle for an insurance company, but perfect for our purposes, as tonight we've gathered to milk John Kramer for every last ounce of gratitude his corpse has to offer, with this BOP n' A Movie Commentary for SAW 6! At the end of the 'Jigsaw's Last Will Trilogy' (we're naming just now), our story finds Hoffman's world crashing down around him as the Billy-slain return from the dead, janitors battle their corporate overlords for lung supremacy, and the final convoluted pieces of John's plan fall into place. Listen as we talk Tobin Bell playing the proud papa, the shift in quality from the detective-half to the game-portion, the ascension of go-to Saw director Kevin Greutert, the even higher ascension of Lionsgate's producers, the reality show whose grand prize was sharing the screen with Costas Mandylore, and Amanda's revenge from beyond the grave. Sort of. Thirty years ago we saw the release of this mystery thriller featuring three promising stars (Alec Baldwin, Nicole Kidman, Bill Pullman), co-written by two promising screenwriters (Aaron Sorkin, Scott Frank), and helmed by one accomplished director (Harold Becker - Sea of Love, Taps).  And THE one scene which most people remember from it happens to feature one of the stars referring to himself/herself as God....guess who that was? :) The plot revolves around a sleepy New England school for young women where students are getting murdered but wait there's more!  Also co-starring Bebe Neuwirth, George C. Scott, Tobin Bell, and Anne Bancroft.....it's time to revisit one of THE nuttier thrillers of the '90's! Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/
