Amidst the whirlwind of fame and adrenaline in the skateboarding world of the 1980s, Mark "Gator" Rogowski's unique style and creative tricks dominated the scene, making him a household name and a hero to aspiring skaters everywhere. His presence at any event guaranteed a spectacle, as he seemed to possess an almost supernatural ability to defy the laws of physics. Yet, as the adage goes, "what goes up, must come down." Because beneath the surface of Gator's seemingly perfect life, darker issues lurked. Personal struggles and erratic behavior began to overshadow his achievements, and the same intensity that once fueled his success on the ramps drove him to commit a heinous act of brutality against an innocent 21-year-old woman named Jessica Bergsten. Jessica's tragic death, and the violence that she suffered in her final moments, was absolutely horrific, and shocked not just her devastated family and the skateboarding community, but the entire world. On episode 22 of Tru Crym Podcast, we discuss the Mark "Gator" Rogowski case. If you skated in the 1980's or were into the whole skate culture, you probably knew the "Gator" story. Mark was one of the most prominent pro skateboarders of his time. He was sponsored by Vision Skateboards, was in a Tom Petty music video, and even appeared on MTV. Things started to go downhill in his personal life and professionally until he was sentenced to 31 years to life in 1992 for the brutal murder of 21 year old Jessica Bergsten.
The 80's and 90's was a time known for grunge and skateboarding. It's also known for Mark Gator Rogowski, a very popular, mainstream skateboarder who loved that rich rockstar lifestyle. After suffering from a traumatic fall, battling alcoholism, things quickly took a turn for the worst for Gator. On March 20, 1991, Gator murdered his ex-girlfriend's best friend, Jessica Bergsten. He was sentenced to 31 years in prison and as of June 2022, he just might be getting out.Facebook: Horrific Heartland Podcast Discussion GroupInstagram: horrificheartlandpodcast Tik Tok: horrificheartlandpodcast horrificheartland@gmail.comSources: Wikipedia.org CBS8.com Hallidayreginald.medium.com Murderpedia.org Stoked: The Rise and Fall of Gator 2002 by Helen Stickler

Geordie then talks about the time Patricia Arquette revealed the worst date she's ever been on, which turned out to be with an ex pro skater... Who is Mark Gator Rogowski? Why did he end up murdering his ex-girlfriend Brandi McClain's friend Jessica Bergsten? Was it a revenge killing? How do Michelle and Geordie end up talking about the Canberra Uni Bar? Professional skateboarding has exploded in popularity over the past few decades, but the best skaters weren't always seen as the celebrities they are today. During the 1980's, some of the 1st “skate stars” were born with the help of VHS skate videos, thrusting some of the most talented unknowns into a life of super stardom, fame, and riches. On this week's episode, we examine Mark “Gator” Rogowski, a pro athlete who was once as popular as famed skateboarder Tony Hawk. But when Mark Rogowski's rags to riches lifestyle got the better of him, his ego became bigger than the sport itself. As his popularity began freefalling in 1991, 22-year-old Jessica Bergsten suddenly went missing after a night with Mark. She was last seen entering his apartment… but when eventually questioned by police, “Gator” told them he just wasn't sure where she had gone… Written by Michael Dunphy Jr., Executive Produced by Michael Ojibway. (long drawn out bong hit) The Experts are back this week talking about skateboard hero/pro/legend/pioneer/murderer Mark Gator Rogowski. Actually they barely talk about him but tried. Skyler gives the world an update on his peppermint reaction, RJ goes to McDonalds twice a day, and Mike throws a banana at a rent a cop. What a show. Thank you Frontline Fiesta, without your riffs our show wouldn't come in with such fire and style
For this week's episode, the girls tackled (excuse the pun!) athlete crimes, which led to the discussion of the infamous Aaron Hernandez case as well as Mark "Gator" Rogowski's rise and fall.
Om skate and destroy och skate and create.
