Join us as we welcome William Massena back to Keeping Time podcast. Fresh from Geneva Watch Days, join us as we catch up with William, one of the most knowledgeable and highly respected authorities on all things watches. With a breadth of knowledge spanning the entire history of watchmaking, the former CEO of Antiquorum Watches (auction house) and Managing Director of Time Zone offers a perspective and level of expertise few can challenge. The conversation begins with a deep-dive into the newest product launch from Massena Lab, a striking and unique vintage-inspired, modern take on a classic Regatta Yacht Timer. William explains the unique design approach and discusses his partner for this latest collaboration. The new watch is the first piece launched by a new watch company, ALBISHORN, with a very interesting design-ethos. The patented movement is just one noteworthy element of the new watch. Following discussion of William's eponymous brand, Massena Lab, we switch gears to discuss the recent Geneva Watch Days (GWD). Created just a couple of years ago, during the pandemic, William fully describes the purpose behind the show, the founders of the event and the experience of attending. Let's just say that any watch event that can be enjoyed wearing shorts and flip-flops whilst sipping Rosé is surely worthy of serious consideration.  William brings the show to life for our listeners and fully describes the vibe, experience and intentions of this important newcomer to the watch-industry calendar. The newest GWD releases are discussed. Of course, being a conversation between watch nerds, William Massena and Jeremy Oster, the conversation meanders and explores side-topics with a great detour into unraveling the history of the modern Breguet brand (pre-Swatch Group) and Daniel Roth. The conversation further delves into the early history and importance of FP Journe and Vianney Halter and the connection with Breguet. Incredibly, this fascinating conversational diversion occurs whilst discussing Konstantin Chaykin's record breaking "ThinKing" watch. As always, the conversation with William is natural, free-flowing and filled with information and insight that will be new, even for the most knowledgeable listeners. We hope that you enjoy this conversation as much as we enjoy creating Keeping Time Podcast. Visit Keeping Time with Oster Watches blog for more podcast and photos. Visit osterjewelers.com

This week on the podcast, Blake is joined by Zach Kazan to talk about all the big news coming out of Geneva Watch Days, including an impressive collaboration between MB&F and H. Moser for Only Watch, an impressive new chronograph from Sylvain Pinaud, and a Doxa that, perhaps, stole the show (for better or worse). But first, they talk about what will surely be one of the most talked about releases of the year, the new Swatch x Blancpain Scuba Fifty Fathoms. It was inevitable that Swatch would follow up the massive success of the MoonSwatch with something, but it's kind of hard to believe that we're really here talking about a colorful, BioCeramic take on the vaunted Fifty Fathoms. Let us know what you think of the new Scuba Fifty, as well as the big Geneva Watch Days releases, in the comments below, or in our new Slack community, which you can join by clicking here.Today's episode of the Worn and Wound Podcast is brought to you by the New York Windup Watch Fair. Fratello On Air is back with a new episode. This week, we touch on a couple of recent topics including the gray market and some associated troubles. We also discuss a newly released homage watch and the light controversy that it brought. As always, we enjoyed ourselves and hope that you'll do the same! It's another week and that means another installment of Fratello On Air. Mike is still sweating it out in Atlanta, which explains the tinnier-than-normal sound of his voice (no fancy microphone in tow). Balazs is enjoying the rain in Germany — not really! This week, it's a bit of a rant session with a focus on some gray market high jinks and a new homage watch that has generated some critical comments.Handgelenks KontrolleBefore getting into our discussion on the gray market, we take care of our customary Handgelnks Kontrolle. Balazs is rocking his vintage King Seiko 45-7001 on a funky metallic purple Has No Bounds watch strap. Mike is also going vintage and is debuting a 1962 Patek Philippe Calatrava 570 that was sourced from Eric Wind. Clearly, we're both into our vintage dress watches in this episode! The gray market and other newsDuring the past week, reports surfaced regarding the Los Angeles-based watch site, "The Timepiece Gentleman." Apparently, the founder recorded a recent video discussing the fact that he has spent monies owed to clients who sent their watches to him for sale on consignment. At this stage, he is attempting to pay those folks back over time. Let's see and let's also see how it affects the overall gray market. We also discuss the recent Massena LAB collaboration with Revolution. The watch generated criticism for looking almost exactly like a rare vintage Patek Philippe, but the response video caused an even larger reaction. We hope you enjoyed today's episode. If you have any topics that you'd like for us to discuss in a future podcast, please don't hesitate to let us know.

We're back with a fresh episode of A Week In Watches, covering news from Norqain, Oris, Vulcain, and of course, Linde Werdelin. Additionally, it wouldn't be a new week without a new collaboration to discuss, and this time it comes courtesy of our friends at Massena LAB and Revolution Magazine in the form of a new, mostly original take on the Uni-Racer Chronograph. Elsewhere, Oris returns to the baseball field to honor the great Milwaukee (okay, and Atlanta) Brave, Hank Aaron with a new colorway of their Big Crown Pointer Date. Another unique configuration of an existing watch released this week is a new Octo Moonphase from Linde Werdelin, who still have a knack for killer case architecture and open dial work.A favorite release this weeks comes from Vulcain, who is once again bringing back the Nautical Cricket, a diving alarm watch with a gnarly inner bezel which includes a full decompression table. This is a historic watch that's more than just a novelty, it's got some serious pedigree under its belt that dates back to the early '60s. Plus, it offers two caseback options, a move we rarely see at this price point. Keep an eye out for more on that one coming soon. Until then, enjoy this week's episode below.A quick note on a programming change with A Week In Watches: this series will be moving to a bi-monthly format, allowing us more time to bring you a broader selection of curated news, at an even better production quality. A lot of work goes into creating these, and we want to make sure we can maintain the best possible balance to bring you our thoughts on all the people, watches, and stories from the industry. This change will take effect beginning next month. This week's episode is brought to you by Artem straps. After much testing and iteration, Artem developed a meticulous material selection process which landed on a unique blend of materials that offered just the right finish, flexibility, and water resistance. The results are impeccable, made with a quality usually only found in very high-end OEM straps. Visit artemstraps.com to learn more about the brand and its array of products.

Like many of you, I'm sure, William Massena first came up on my radar from his 2015 episode on HODINKEE's Talking Watches. Hard to believe that's already been nearly 8 years ago, and I actually didn't meet William in person until this past October when he walked by the STANDARD H booth at WindUp in New York City.I politely introduced myself, told him I enjoyed his episode, and then we proceeded to talk about our shared love of the same sunglasses company, Jacques Marie Mage. It's very much a cult brand, so any time someone wearing them gets called out, it inevitably solicits a smile and a surprised response, not unlike spotting a rare watch, for example. This episode follows a podcast first where William accidentally slept through our initial podcast Zoom recording - i found this to be hilarious and he was clearly jet lagged, so I kept that part of the discussion in the mix. William, please don't be embarrassed - it was too funny to leave out!Needless to say, William and I have a really fun conversation. I certainly learned a ton about his background and path into watches, and he does a great job offering advice on leaning into the idea of acquiring your grails. This week on the Worn & Wound podcast, we've got Blake Buettner, Patrick Marlett, Thomas Calara, and Zach Weiss talking about a wide range of topics. First and foremost, Patrick hasn't seen The Big Lebowski, and the entire team needs to take a minute to adjust to this distressing new information. Watches are eventually discussed as well, including a new and very difficult to acquire Porsche Design chronograph, and the latest release from Massena LAB, a historically accurate tribute to the Mathey-Tissot Type XX. Then the conversation turns to a recent influx in watches with meteorite dials, and the team wonders aloud what other interesting materials enterprising brands might decide to make watch dials out of. Hello hello and welcome to Episode 8, which is one of Malaika's lucky numbers. This week in Watch News we discuss a few new releases, including the blue ceramic Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Urwerk UR-100V ULTRAVIOLET. For Watch Spotting, we discuss Timotay Chalamay's Cartier moment at the Venice Film Festival... and his RED HALTER TOP RED CARPET moment. We also discuss Zendaya at the US Open, Bowen Yang wearing Massena Lab, Liz Truss's fake Piaget and Jerry Seinfeld's f*ckboy KITH campaign. (We also discuss the Queen briefly. RIP. We recorded this the evening prior to her passing.) Then we get into the meat and potatoes of the pod, which is, of course, talking about press trips. Brynn went out east with Longines for the Hampton Classic horse show and came up on a watch. Malaika feasted on the raw bar in the Rolex suite at the US Open and saw Serena's (maybe) last victory on the court. Later in the week, Brynn had pigs in a blanket at the Rolex suite at the US Open and was in the front row watching their 18-year old testimonee and absolute powerhouse, Coco Gauff. Ciao for now xoxo

Welcome to the first episode of Significant Lots: A Watch Collector Roundtable. This will be a new weekly podcast featuring a roundtable of 4 watch collectors, along with the occasional guest. We'll take a “collector's perspective” on topics in watches, sharing our hot takes on modern moves and releases to coverage of the vintage market, auctions, and everything in between. Every week you'll hear from me, Tony. I write a newsletter about watches called Rescapement, as well as contributing to publications like A Collected Man and Hodinkee. More importantly, you'll hear from Eric Wind, owner of Wind Vintage and an all-around expert on all things vintage. Eric is a former VP, Senior Specialist in Watches at Christie's, and before that, he was a contributor to Hodinkee. Along with Eric is Gabriel Bedanor, a prolific collector of modern, independent, and vintage watches based in New York. Finally, there's Charlie Dunne, aka books_on_time on Instagram, one of the most passionate lovers and learners of watches around, who also contributes to publications like Revolution and Collectability. Honestly, the initial idea for this podcast came about as we wanted to have fun, honest conversations about the auction season, so that's what this episode is all about. This week on the podcast, we're happy to be joined by Jerome Burgert, one of the founders of a brand we've become big fans of at Worn & Wound, Serica Watches. Serica appeared on the watch scene in 2019 with the W.W.W. watch, a tribute to classic military watches like the original “Dirty Dozen” series. They followed that up a year later with the 4512, and have just launched their first dive watch, the 5303 (reviewed recently right here by Zach Weiss). Serica is remarkable for developing a crystal clear design language in a very short period of time, and this conversation reveals how carefully considered all the small details in these watches really are. Jerome takes us through the ins and outs of launching his brand, where he hopes to see Serica go in the future, and the concept behind 5303. It's been a busy week in the watch world, and we're covering a lot of ground in this week's Worn & Wound podcast to get to as much watch news as we can. First, we take you through the all new Zodiac x Worn & Wound Super Sea Wolf Limited Edition, our latest collaboration, and an LE that's been in the works for a long time. Zach Weiss is here this week to talk about the wide ranging design influences that went into this Super Sea Wolf with a heavy 90s vibe. If sneakers and outdoor gear mean anything to you, and you have a fondness for bold colors in your watches, you'll want to give this a listen. We also spend some time talking about the current state of limited editions following the release of new watches from Ming x Massena Lab as well as Kurono Tokyo. These brands took different approaches with their big releases last week, with wildly different results. We want to put the question to our listeners: what's the right way to release a limited edition watch in 2021? Next, we discuss some of the watches featured in our recent guide to finding value in exotic complications. From Frederick Constant to Gorilla, there's a world of complications out there that represent a ton of value compared to watches that cost several times as much, and it's an interesting exercise to pick a handful and look at the highest end and entry level. If you have a favorite value oriented complication that would normally be found in a much higher priced watch, be sure to leave it in the comments. And finally, we take our best guesses at predicting the latest release from Tudor. Anyone who has played this particular game before knows how difficult it is (did anyone figure that a sterling silver Black Bay Fifty-Eight would be making its way to us this year?), but we didn't let that stop us from laying out some fairly wild guesses. To stay on top of all new episodes, you can subscribe to The Worn & Wound Podcast — now available on all major platforms including iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, Soundcloud, Spotify, and more. It was a lot of fun and a privilege to hear William's picks. I don't want to give it all away so you will just have to listen.  Anthony and Roman would like to personally thank William for coming onto the show and sharing his 5 Greatest Watches of all Time.  Be sure to follow William @therealmassena and @massenalab on IG and sign up for their newsletter to stay up to date and not miss out on any of the launches coming this year.  Grab a whiskey if that's your thing, put on a tuxedo, sit in your most comfortable chair and journey with us to a conversation with absolute watch nuts talking watches! ***Full disclosure, we did experience some internet speed issues from William's hotel room but it was all too good to cut out so stick with it, it's worth it*** Recommendations from this episode: William: @burymewithmywatches Roman: @papillonwatchman Anthony: @koopology Music by @salil808    Follow us on Instagram: @FifthWrist Thank you for all the positive reviews & comments on our episodes. On the podcast today, Zach Weiss and Blake Buettner are joined by watch industry veteran William Massena. William is the proprietor of Massena LAB, a studio that has partnered with some of the most interesting independent brands since its founding only two years ago, and they just released their first solo project, the Uni-Racer, an homage to a classic Universal Geneve chronograph. This is a really fun conversation that focuses on the making of the Uni-Racer, from its initial conception to production, and also turns to the very idea of homage watches, vintage reissues, the state of the watch world today, and where it's heading in the future. To stay on top of all new episodes, you can subscribe to The Worn & Wound Podcast — now available on all major platforms including iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, Soundcloud, Spotify, and more.
