This week on aBlogtoWatchWeekly, Ariel gets right to his most burning question: Why is everyone still so worried about tariffs? Because he isn't. In contrarian fashion, Ariel is worried about other things, like the watch industry eating its own tail. What does he mean by this? Tune in to find out. On the various home fronts, there are earthquakes in Los Angeles and wildfires in Scotland.Metaphor much? Along those lines, "regurgitation" is the word of the day, and it's not as icky as it sounds because Ariel argues that it can be an art form, especially in the context of Watches & Wonders 2025. David has a different view, and the guys bat around their ideas about Chopard, TAGHeuer, Hublot, and other heavy hitters to lend their expertise to the ongoing conversation. Ripley underscored the new tech and old design, a nicer way of approaching the regurgitation theme. This word itself is controversial. See what side you land on by listening in: strategy, art form, both, or neither?

Welcome back everyone. Please join us as your hosts Doug and Jeremy discuss the history and evolution of the Swiss Watch Shows. In this episode we go into detail outlining the history of the former Basel Watch and Jewellery Show which dated back to 1917. We discuss how the show grew, the early history and the modern history as mechanical watchmaking entered the modern era with a renaissance of fine watchmaking beginning in the late 1980's. We discuss the historical importance of the Basel Fair and also the emergence and the reasons for establishing a second important show in Genève, Switzerland. Initially the Genève show was called SIHH. Today the show has evolved into Watches and Wonders. Jeremy goes into detail and describes the experience enjoyed at the shows from the perspective of a retailer. Midway through the episode we are joined by friend of the pod, Scott Rosen. Scott, brings his experience as a vendor to the episode. As former USA Brand President for both Hublot and Vacheron Constantin, Scott relates a unique perspective from the point of view of the Manufacturer exhibiting at the all-important Swiss trade shows. As always, it is a fun and free-flowing conversation with deep insights and a little nostalgia thrown in for good measure. We hope that you enjoy this episode of Keeping Time Podcast. This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is back in the proverbial saddle, and the laughs are on high volume again. Ripley is adorned in Tudor cycling gear from head to toe, and Rick admonishes the team by noting their "rubbishment" of Panerai from last week's show, which David wholeheartedly defends. When they get down to business, the "JaGUar" (stet) rebrand is the first item on the docket. (Rick pronounces the word phonetically, which seems to be a British thing.) Then, the guys wax sardonic on a $6.2 million banana "art piece," which segues into a convo about why ABTW doesn't cover watch auctions. Next up, they muse about the pantone color of the year, "mellow brown" and ponder whether or not this will trickle down to watch design. They get serious about Hublot's newest release, complaining about a whole lot of things. As (almost) always, they end with the traditional Hit, Miss, Maybe. Born Wild on Rodeo Drive: Richard Orlinski Breaks the Rules

Rodeo Drive - The Podcast

Rodeo Drive has gone wild. Visitors to the luxury street have fallen in love with eight colorful, life-size sculptures of animals – Wild Kong, Standing Bear, Panda and Crocodile – designed by the French artist Richard Orlinski, and part of this summer's “Rodeo Drive Celebrates Fashion”.But sculptures are only part of Orlinski's multifaceted output. He was the artist of record at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, he mixes up art with music and stand up comedy, and he has partnerships with international brands including Lancome, Hublot, Puma, and Disney. Now he has written a book – Pourquoi J'ai Cassé les Codes, or “Why I Broke The Codes” – about his life of going against the grain. He stopped off recently in Beverly Hills, and talked with Lyn Winter, host of Rodeo Drive - The Podcast, about his unconventional approach to art and life, starting with why he chose to celebrate wild animals in his sculpture.Animals, he says, have much to teach humans, as they “obey a virtuous circle,” and kill only for food, while humans kill for nothing. He spoke about his personal experience with a violent father, which also laid the ground for his future self: “I realized very early that I have nobody to trust, so I was very alone. And when you like that, you're angry, and you want to succeed.”He says that his fighting spirit helped him deal with initial rejection from the Parisian art world, and develop his mass appeal with a sense of freedom to do his own thing. “I'm not like a niche artist,” he says. “I'm popular, but popular in a good way. I create an emotion, even a bad emotion, but it is emotion.”Orlinski explains his admiration for Andy Warhol, why he opened his own chain of Orlinski galleries, and how he treats art more like fashion - with seasons, and a branded experience that is meant to be fun for people of all ages. The future of art display, he says, is big spaces, where visitors can eat, spend time, and enjoy a multisensory experience. “The competition is always the same. So you have to create, invent something new, and I think the artist and the galleries and the people in this industry need to create something like that.”He also talks about his book, Pourquoi J'ai Cassé les Codes, which has been a hit with the French public. It's a self-help guide of sorts, delivering life lessons from his own experiences. “Many people are very thankful about this book, because it helps them to change, to listen to the little voice inside, to follow their dreams.”While seven of Orlinski's wild creatures will leave Rodeo Drive, one work will remain permanently on view. Which one might that be, asked Winter.“I think it's the Kong with a big heart, and written on the heart is ‘Rodeo Drive', responds Orlinski. “It fits with the place, and it was made for it. This is the only piece that was really made for it.”Season 5 of Rodeo Drive – The Podcast is presented by the Rodeo Drive Committee with the support of The Hayman Family, Two Rodeo Drive, Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel, and the Beverly Hills Conference & Visitors Bureau.Season 5 Credits:Executive Producer and Host: Lyn WinterOn behalf of the Rodeo Drive Committee: Kay Monica RoseScriptwriter and Editorial Advisor: Frances AndertonEditor and Videographer: Hans FjellestadTheme music by Brian BanksProduction Assistant: Isabelle AlfonsoListen, subscribe, rate and review on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.Visit the website: https://rodeodrive-bh.com/podcast/Join us on Instagram @rodeodrive Hosted on Acast. LVMH Watch Week, which was recently held in Miami, marks the start fo the flood of new releases for the year, and for our first news episode, we fly through some of the highlights from TAG Heuer, Hublot, Bulgari and Zenith. Of course, LVMH doesn't have a monopoly on the news, and Piaget's hype-y new Polo 79 is bringing u80s realness back to the wrist. But all these new releases pale compared to the biggest news story of the last few months, about a woman so cool she doesn't even need to wear watches on her wrists. Yes, the one and only Taylor Swift ruffled feathers by wearing a custom choker with a Concord watch front and centre. We have thoughts. When it comes to the Cardinals' needs for pitching, this is not the offseason to fixate on one name or one solutions, argues St. Louis Post-Dispatch sports columnist Ben Frederickson. This is the winter to deal in volume -- most Costco, less Hublot. Frederickson takes over hosting duties for a brand new BPIB featuring Derrick Goold, the usual host and usual Post-Dispatch baseball writer. The two writers discuss the pitching options for the Cardinals, the pitching approaches, and just what Cardinals officials mean when they talk about adding "2 1/2 pitchers." What's a half pitcher? Why is it taking so long for the market to move? Goold offers the view of the Cardinals from the GM Meetings, where the industry noted how motivated the Cardinals and executive John Mozeliak appear to be and how the Cardinals and ownership must still prove they're willing to back that motivation with the finances necessary to be a player in the free-agent marketplace for pitchers. The Best Podcast in Baseball, sponsored by Closets by Design of St. Louis, is a production of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, StlToday.com, and Derrick Goold, who is gradually getting his voice back.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode, I talk with Exclamation's principal, Thomas Serrano, about trends in luxury events, importance of vendor relationships, mapping the emotional journey of events, focusing on meaningful and memorable experiences and more! Connect with Thomas! https://exclamation-group.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/thomas-serrano/ Thomas Serrano, was raised, educated and began his professional career in product promotion and events production in the heart of the French centers of culture, style and luxury. Graduating from EDHEC Business School in Nice in 1998, he honed his talents at several experiential agencies in Paris working with leading brands from Chanel and Cartier to Citroën, Nespresso, and Microsoft. In 2008, Thomas relocated to New York and launched Havas Luxe within Havas Worldwide. In 2017, Thomas created a new Havas offering: Havas Events North America. Focusing on corporate events, the agency produced innovative experiences for major brands including the Wall Street Journal, KPMG, Lazard, ExxonMobil and L'Oréal. Thomas has decades of experience managing high-luxury events for big-name clients, including Van Cleef & Arpels, Montblanc, L'Oréal, Audemars Piguet, Hublot, Bulgari and Dom Pérignon. Looking to create a one-stop shop for corporate and luxury events, cultural and sports partnerships, Thomas launched Exclamation – "Events That Make A Point" – in January 2020. Thomas has been a guest lecturer at NYU, Columbia Business School, Parsons School of Design, Fashion Institute of Technology as well as ESSEC Business School in Paris. He is often invited to speak in conferences, such as South by Southwest (SXSW).   After years of serving and working with nonprofit organizations, including Luxury Education Foundation (LEF), Thomas created his own foundation I.N.E.S (Initiatives for New Education and Socialization), an organization encouraging underprivileged teenagers in France to achieve their dreams. Most recently, Thomas was accepted into the Forbes Business Council, where he provides insight into the ever-expanding, highly creative world of luxury marketing and event management.
