Bonnie returns for her THIRD interrogation and grilling by our intrepid podcast heroes to give a review of the 2023 Walmart OZ Mile Swim. The Walmart OZ Mile Swim is an open water race that offers participants and spectators a full weekend of fun in beautiful Northwest Arkansas with festivities centered around swimming. SwimTalk co-host Bob Button participated in the Mile Swim this past September after successfully eluding sharks, a crowded field, the frigid choppy waters of San Francisco Bay, and Alcatraz Island in his rear-view mirror in August. Bonnie and Bob share storytelling about the OZ Mile with some interesting behind-the-scenes tidbits. Join them!

Ultra-endurance athlete and clean seas activist Neil Agius landed in Ibiza yesterday after deciding to voluntarily abandon his world record crossing from mallorca after suffering multiple jellyfish stings. He encountered a swarm of jellyfish around the 46 km mark of the crossing in the Mallorca-Ibiza channel at around 01:00 am. After almost four hours, several stings and several attempts to resume the crossing, Agius's stings were too agonising for him to carry on his 100 mile swim to raise awareness of the UN treaty of the high seas. It is the first-ever legally binding global agreement of its kind and provides a framework for environmental protections to biodiversity in international waters — which cover over 60% of the Earth's surface. Only 1.2% of the world's ocean areas are currently protected which he says it is not enough. We caught up for a quick conversation overlooking Dalt Vila and the World Unesco Heritage site that is also named due to "the dense prairies of oceanic Posidonia (seagrass), an important endemic species found only in the Mediterranean basin, contain and support a diversity of marine life." As we gazed over the Marine protected areas of Els Freus Marine Reserve which covers more than 13,000 hectares between the islands of Ibiza and Formentera, he admitted aborting the swim was not an east decision, "It is very sad to see all the hard work we put into this challenge come to such a premature conclusion. I felt strong and ready to complete the journey, but fate had other plans." Neil says this is far from the end of his plans and will try again, probably next year. www.neilagius.com Neil on instagram

Last week I completed the hardest physical and mental challenge of my life... Ultraman Florida, a 3-day, 320-mile ultra triathlon. Rather than having one long episode for the race recap, I will be breaking this into 5 episodes as part of the series. This is the second episode of the Ultraman Florida race recap series which covers my thoughts and experience from Day 1, which consisted of a 6.2 mile swim & and a 90-mile bike ride. Next episode will share the Day 2 experience and lessons from biking 170 miles in less than 12 hours. If you found any value in this episode, leave a 5-star review! That will help more people become their best by seeing these episodes. Also, let's connect on Instagram and send me a text with your thoughts on the latest episode by texting me at 608-770-3437. Yep, I'll actually respond! :)

Melissa has completed the Epic 5 in Hawaii, 3 Ultraman triathlons, and is now the 1st female to have ever completed the UberMan, which she did in October - she also broke the swim record and smashed the previous course record by approximately 31 hours! During this episode we learn more about the details from the challenge, the high points, the low points, the support of crew members, what the finish was like and how she is getting back to ‘normal life’. We have been following Melissa’s journey since February 2019, when Melissa did a Facebook Live for the Tough Girl Tribe - this was then turned into a Tough Girl Podcast EXTRA episode. More about UberMan…. UberMan is the world's most challenging Ultra Triathlon. The 556 mile course goes from the Mists of Avalon to the Snows of Mount Whitney. Starting on Catalina Island, participants swim 21 miles in the open Pacific Ocean to the shores of Palos Verdes. The 400 mile bike route leaves the city of Angels and climbs 20,000 vertical feet before descending to Badwater basin, at 200 feet below sea level, the lowest point in North America. From Badwater, athletes run 135 miles through Death Valley before ascending 13,000 feet to the trailhead @ Mt Whitney, the highest peak in the Continental United States. Cindy Werhane tried to become the first person to swim all the way around Sauvie Island this week. She swam for 20 straight hours — and almost completed the loop — before she had to call it quits.
This past weekend I did my first dualathlon of 3 rounds of: 1 Mile Swim & 1 Mile Run This race definitely falls in my top 5 hardest races and I can't wait to share. Then, let's finish it off with vacation chat. How do 2 personal trainers navigate vacation when it comes to fitness and nutrition? Like? Let me know! Questions? Cherie Gruenfeld is a 18-time winner of the Ironman Triathlon. She holds 13 world titles. For those who don't know what the Ironman entails, it is: A 2.4 Mile Swim 112 Mile Bicycle Ride 26.2 Mile Run (Marathon) Cherie will be 75 in July and she now runs the 70.3 Triathlons (that's half of the above) and will be doing FIVE of those this year! This was truly one of the best interviews we've gotten to do. Angela and I, perhaps because we've trained for a half-marathon together and because Angela's family includes some competitive cyclers, were just mesmerized by what Cherie has accomplished athletically. Beyond that though, she has such a quiet confidence and passion for her sport. She has carried that passion into a non-profit foundation for at-risk kids in San Bernadino county called Exceeding Expectations. Come listen to a great Super Ager example, and someone who is living a happier, longer life! Cherie Gruenfeld
