Are you a gut health dabbler? You're not alone. Many of us read books, listen to podcasts, and try the occasional supplement—but never fully commit to making real, lasting changes. But here's the truth: gut health isn't something you can afford to dabble in. It's the foundation of everything—your mood, energy, immunity, digestion, and even long-term disease prevention. In this episode of The Aging Project Podcast, Clinical Nutritionist Lynsey Koch joins Shelley Craft to help us stop dabbling for good. She breaks down why gut health is the missing piece in longevity, the biggest mistakes we're making, and how to build gut-friendly habits that actually work. Why We Ignore Gut Health (And Why That Needs to Change) We see our dentist for our teeth. We visit dermatologists for our skin. But when it comes to our gut—the control centre of our health—who's keeping us accountable? Many of us only start caring about gut health when something goes wrong. Lynsey explains why we need to shift our thinking and start treating gut health as a daily practice, not a last resort. How Your Gut Affects More Than Just Digestion Did you know that 90% of serotonin (your feel-good hormone) is made in the gut? Or that a diverse gut microbiome is linked to longer, healthier lives? Poor gut health is now connected to anxiety, depression, weight struggles, inflammation, and even autoimmune diseases. If you're feeling sluggish, bloated, moody, or dealing with skin issues—your gut could be the culprit. The Biggest Gut Health Mistakes (Are You Making These?) Many of us think we're taking care of our gut, but we're making key mistakes, including:
Feeling stuck? In today's episode, I dive deep into how to conquer information overload and regain your focus. My main piece of advice is simple yet powerful: Stop Consuming So Much Information! It's easy to feel like you're drowning in endless streams of content, but when you, as a business owner, fail to monitor the information you consume, it can drain your creativity and clarity. This approach not only makes a huge difference in your business but also aligns with biblical wisdom. The Bible teaches us to be mindful of what we allow into our hearts and minds, emphasizing the importance of focus, peace, and discernment. Overloading ourselves with information can lead to confusion, while taking control of what we consume allows us to be more intentional and effective in our work. I also share how slowing down, simplifying, and prioritizing what truly matters can bring you closer to the success and peace you deserve. You've got this—let's reclaim your time, energy, and creativity! Are you unintentionally overwhelming your audience with too much information? In this episode, I dive into one of the most common mistakes I see smart, experienced professionals make in their presentations: overloading them with information. I know it's tempting - after all, we want to provide value. But here's the truth: real impact doesn't come from how much you teach, but from how much you transform. In this episode, you'll learn: Why more information isn't always better (and can actually be a disservice) How to shift your content from info-dumping to insight-sharing The key ingredients that create transformation in your talks What I learned from TV shows like Succession and Inventing Anna about confidence, vision, and belief (yep, there's a lesson in there!) How focusing on transformation helps you position yourself as a thought leader and raise your speaking fees I'll also share examples from our Thought Leader Academy and client presentations to show you exactly how to make this shift. In today's episode, Colleen unpacks the hidden ways we keep ourselves stuck—whether it's staying in a comfort zone that no longer serves us, running on autopilot, or avoiding the call to expand into something greater. She explores the four zones we operate from (incompetence, competence, excellence, and genius) and how staying in the wrong one can quietly drain your energy and fulfillment. Plus, she shares the one simple question you can ask yourself daily to shift into a life that feels more open, creative, and aligned. Key Takeaways: The Four Zones That Keep You Stuck Zone of Incompetence – The things you struggle with and really shouldn't be doing. Spending time here out of fear or scarcity (like trying to fix your own tech issues instead of outsourcing) wastes time and energy. Zone of Competence – You can do these tasks, but so can others. Overloading yourself here leads to burnout because you're not fully using your gifts. Zone of Excellence – The place where you thrive and others rely on you, but it keeps you comfortable and prevents you from stepping into the next level of growth. Zone of Genius – Where you feel expansive, creative, and most aligned. This is where fulfillment lives—but getting there requires releasing old patterns and allowing yourself to grow. The Emotional Test: Contraction vs. Expansion Every action, habit, or decision either expands your heart (makes you feel alive, curious, and in flow) or contracts it (makes you feel stuck, drained, or small). Noticing this difference in real-time helps you shift away from habits that keep you playing small—like overworking, people-pleasing, or numbing with alcohol. When the feeling of over-drinking meets redundancy So many high-achievers stay stuck in the zone of competence or excellence, which leads to boredom and frustration. When we feel unfulfilled, we reach for something to take the edge off—like drinking. Of course. The "probably" real solution?? STOP IGNORING THE PART OF YOU THAT WANTS MORE FOR YOURSELF. Actionable Steps: Check In: When you feel the overwhelming pressure from the opposite side of the mirror, ask yourself: Am I in a state of expansion or contraction? Expansion = openness, curiosity, creativity. Contraction = stress, avoidance, overthinking, numbing. Drop It Like It's Hot: If something feels like contraction (overthinking, unnecessary busyness, perfectionism), drop it as fast as possible. Give yourself permission to delegate, simplify, or step away from things that drain you. Prioritize What Actually Moves You Forward: Identify what actions truly create change in your life. Stop wasting energy in areas that don't serve your highest potential. Make Space for Your Zone of Genius: Spend more time doing what makes you feel the most engaged and fulfilled. Trust that stepping into this space will naturally lessen your urge to numb, overwork, or self-sabotage. Homework: Start a daily practice of asking yourself: ~Does this expand me or contract me? Make a list of things you need to let go of so you can step into more freedom, creativity, and alignment. ~Then, discard by a method of your choice.

When we make certain choices, often without even realizing it, we can turn a teaching moment from one that should be clear into one that's confusing. Luckily, these choices are pretty easy to spot and fix once we know what to look for, and cognitive science can help us understand what's going on. In this episode I'm going to talk about three of these with Blake Harvard, who writes the Effortful Educator blog and has just published a new book, Do I Have Your Attention? In this episode of The Athletes Compass, hosts Paul Laursen, Marjaana Rakai, and Paul Warloski break down the latest insights on VO2 max training, interval strategies, and the importance of base training. A recent study on trained cyclists revealed that those who responded best to high-intensity workouts had a strong foundation of low-intensity training. Marjaana shares her personal experience of unexpected performance gains after a period of base training and recovery. The team also discusses the benefits of short vs. long intervals, the role of heat training, and how platforms like Velocity enhance interval workouts.Key TakeawaysBase training is crucial. Athletes with a strong low-intensity training foundation respond better to high-intensity sessions.Short vs. long intervals depend on physiology. Fast-twitch dominant athletes benefit more from shorter 30-30s, while endurance-focused athletes handle longer efforts better.HIIT workouts should be strategic. Overloading on intense training without adequate recovery can be counterproductive.Heat training can improve endurance. It helps increase plasma volume and stimulates EPO production for better oxygen transport. The most important session is the next one. Avoid overtraining by pacing efforts and leaving “one or two in the tank.”Technology like Velocity enhances interval training. We are overloaded with the information on the Internet and the media and we can't process the information. Why we take all the information in when we can't process or memorize them? Our brain tries to sort out the information what is significant and what not. And our brain can't handle so much data that we get every day.Our brain connects easily only with information that is important to our survival. If our brain can associate the info with experience it is much easier to memorize. For instance, you learn about technique and everywhere you look to apply that information… If you find an object and can understand what you have learned, you will easily memorize it. After some time you will become an expert. So I have done it with technique, psychology, philosophy, and religion. And then I had/have my challenges with the Adobe Photoshop. I learned some techniques of the Adobe Photoshop, applied the knowledge and after 3 months of not applying my knowledge I forgot how to use Photoshop. Then I learned again the technique and forgot it again and again. Why? Photoshop is against every logic in my mind and so I can't connect the techniques of Photoshop with my other knowledge. And this is the reason why we can't memorize if we can't connect the new knowledge with our learned knowledge. Because our mind demands that we need to construct in our brain a new neuropathy when we learn something entirely new. Imagine if you go through the Forest without using any trek. If you repeat again to go the same path, after some time there will be a trek. And if you stop using this path the trek will disappear and so our knowledge. Every knowledge we learn, we need to apply and to repeat. When we read a book and can't remember what we have read, we should make notes and try to apply it… If we can connect this information for something useful in our life we easily can memorize it.Information that we don't need skip. Why? Overloading our brain leads to dysfunction. Learn to relax and find time to use more the right side of your brain. The right side of our brain is for feelings, intuition, sex, art, fun… And then learning is much easier. Because both sides of our mind/brain should be used equally. Read the full article and grab links at tashcorbin.com/439Do people really only value offers they've paid for?In this episode of the podcast, we're diving into a hot topic that fires me up: Do people really only value offers they've paid for? This common advice can mislead your marketing and sales, so we're going to set things straight.Shall we do it?The impact of pricing on valueToday, I want to unpack this idea that people value offers more if they pay for them, and the secondary advice to charge for what you might usually offer for free, so that people will actually value and complete it.I'm sure you've encountered these assertions that high ticket clients are superior and people seeking freebies are just wasting time. Some experts suggest charging for webinars rather than offering them free. While those strategies might work, they're often presented with blanket statements that carry judgment and privilege. The misconception is that if people pay, or spend more, they value it more... and therefore are more likely to complete whatever they've purchased.Yes, there is psychological evidence that price influences the perceived value of a product, but it's not the full story.Challenging blanket marketing adviceIt's crucial to challenge these two common strategies: raising prices to increase people's perceived value, and charging for what could be free to attract "high-intent" customers. For instance, the idea that charging $25 for a webinar makes attendees more likely to act is flawed. Correlation doesn't equal causation—there's much more at play in customer behaviour.Privilege and judgement detox Now, let's address the issue of privilege and judgment in these pricing strategies. Charging for a 5-day challenge because it supposedly attracts more committed participants can be misguided. If the free challenge isn't converting, adding a price won't fix that. If people aren't finishing the challenge, again - charging for it won't fix the design issue with the challenge itself. The real issue might be it fails to move people closer to readiness to purchase or the sales pitch needs work. Overloading a challenge with information and too much homework might also keep people from achieving their goals, and being ready for what's next.Keep on reading and grab links at tashcorbin.com/439Let me know your thoughts via our Text FanMail!

https://teachhoops.com/In a recent episode of "Coach Unplugged," hosts Coach Collins and Coach Steger discuss the challenges high school athletes and coaches face when transitioning from fall sports like football or soccer to the basketball season. They emphasize the importance of understanding both the physical and mental adjustments required during this period. Building Personal Connections Coach Collins highlights the significance of knowing each player's name to foster stronger relationships and enhance communication. Using a player's name captures their attention and makes them feel valued, which is crucial for team cohesion. Balancing Expectations and Well-being The coaches stress that athletes should not be overwhelmed immediately after their fall sports season. Coach Collins avoids holding evening open gyms in September to prevent adding stress to players already committed to other sports. Instead, he offers morning sessions for those interested, respecting their time and need for rest. Understanding Physical Differences Between Sports Transitioning athletes need time to adjust to basketball's continuous pace, which differs from the stop-and-go nature of sports like football. Coaches should implement gradual conditioning programs to prevent injuries and fatigue, recognizing that immediate peak performance is unrealistic. Mental Health and Avoiding Burnout The mental shift between seasons is as crucial as the physical one. Overloading athletes can lead to burnout. Providing mental breaks and low-pressure activities like shooting practice helps athletes enjoy the game without feeling overwhelmed. Collaborating with Other Coaches Maintaining positive relationships with other sports coaches is vital. Open communication ensures athletes are not caught between conflicting commitments and that their best interests are prioritized. Providing Flexible Opportunities Offering optional activities allows athletes to engage with basketball without feeling obligated. This flexibility maintains their enthusiasm and prevents them from being overwhelmed by additional commitments. Supporting Non-Fall Sport Athletes Coaches can encourage athletes not participating in fall sports to focus on conditioning and skill development but should avoid excessive pressure. A balanced approach prepares them physically without risking burnout. Emphasizing Skill Development Focusing on shooting and fundamental skills during the transition period helps athletes acclimate to basketball. It provides a low-impact way to improve performance and serves as a mental break. Avoiding Early Season Burnout Starting the season too intensely can cause athletes to peak early and lose momentum. Coaches should pace the season appropriately, gradually increasing intensity to keep athletes fresh and engaged. Conclusion: Start Slow to Finish Strong The key message is to "start slow to finish strong." By pacing the transition and focusing on athletes' physical and mental health, coaches can set their teams up for a successful season. This approach leads to sustained performance and a more enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Monitoring in the software engineering world continues to grapple with poor signal-to-noise ratios. It's a challenge that's been around since the beginning of software development and will persist for years to come. The core issue is the overwhelming noise from non-essential data, which floods systems with useless alerts. This interrupts workflows, affects personal time, and even disrupts sleep.Sebastian dove into this problem, highlighting that the issue isn't just about having meaningless pages but also the struggle to find valuable information amidst the noise. When legitimate alerts get lost in a sea of irrelevant data, pinpointing the root cause becomes exceptionally hard.Sebastian proposes a fundamental fix for this data overload: be deliberate with the data you emit. When instrumenting your systems, be intentional about what data you collect and transport. Overloading with irrelevant information makes it tough to isolate critical alerts and find the one piece of data that indicates a problem. To combat this, focus on:* Being Deliberate with Data. Make sure that every piece of telemetry data serves a clear purpose and aligns with your observability goals.* Filtering Data Effectively. Improve how you filter incoming data to eliminate less relevant information and retain what's crucial.* Refining Alerts. Optimize alert rules such as creating tiered alerts to distinguish between critical issues and minor warnings.Dan Ravenstone, who leads platform at Top Hat, discussed “triaging alerts” recently. He shared that managing millions of alerts, often filled with noise, is a significant issue. His advice: scrutinize alerts for value, ensuring they meet the criteria of a good alert, and discard those that don't impact the user journey.According to Dan, the anatomy of a good alert includes:* A run book* A defined priority level* A corresponding dashboard* Consistent labels and tags* Clear escalation paths and ownershipTo elevate your approach, consider using aggregation and correlation techniques to link otherwise disconnected data, making it easier to uncover patterns and root causes. The learning point is simple: aim for quality over quantity. By refining your data practices and focusing on what's truly valuable, you can enhance the signal-to-noise ratio, ultimately allowing more time for deep work rather than constantly managing incidents. However, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the enormity of your ambitions. The key to success often lies in taking small, consistent steps toward your goals. In this blog, we'll explore the power of baby steps and offer practical advice on how to break down your goals into manageable increments. 1. Define Your Goal Clearly: The first step in any journey is knowing your destination. Take the time to define your goal with precision. What do you want to achieve, and why is it important to you? Having a clear and compelling goal gives you the motivation to take action. 2. Break It Down: Once you have a well-defined goal, break it down into smaller, actionable steps. Think of these steps as milestones on your path to success. Breaking a big goal into smaller parts makes it less daunting and more achievable. 3. Prioritize Your Steps: Not all steps are created equal. Identify the most crucial and time-sensitive steps in your goal-setting journey. Focus on completing these first. Prioritization keeps you on track and ensures you make the most of your efforts. 4. Create a Plan: A plan provides structure and guidance for your journey. Outline the specific actions you need to take, set deadlines, and create a timeline. Having a plan in place makes it easier to stay organized and measure your progress. 5. Set Realistic Expectations: While ambition is commendable, it's essential to set realistic expectations. Be honest with yourself about what you can achieve in a given timeframe. Overloading your schedule can lead to burnout and discouragement. 6. Celebrate Small Wins: Don't wait until you reach your ultimate goal to celebrate. Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small they may seem. This positive reinforcement keeps you motivated and focused. 7. Stay Consistent: Consistency is the key to long-term success. Commit to taking daily or weekly actions that move you closer to your goal. Even on days when motivation wanes, stick to your routine to maintain progress. 8. Embrace Adaptability: Life is unpredictable, and setbacks are a part of any journey. When you encounter obstacles or challenges, don't be discouraged. Adaptability and resilience are essential qualities for achieving your goals. 9. Seek Support and Accountability: Share your goals with a friend, family member, or mentor who can provide support and hold you accountable. Discussing your progress with someone else can provide valuable insights and encouragement. 10. Practice Patience: Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither are most goals. Patience is a virtue when working toward your aspirations. Understand that meaningful progress often takes time and staying committed to the process. Taking baby steps toward your goals is a proven method for achieving success. By defining your goals, breaking them down into manageable steps, creating a plan, and maintaining consistency, you can steadily make progress and build momentum. Remember that every step, no matter how small, brings you closer to your ultimate destination. So, start today, and watch as your dreams become attainable reality through the power of incremental progress.

Ensuring Ladder Safety: Essential Tips from Stephen Vantassel Welcome to another episode of the Living The Wildlife Podcast with wildlife control consultant Stephen Vantassel! In this episode, Stephen delves into essential ladder safety tips, emphasizing the importance of following OSHA guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries. The Importance of Ladder Safety Ladder safety is crucial for anyone working at heights, whether it's for professional purposes or DIY projects at home. Following proper safety protocols can prevent serious injuries and even fatalities. Stephen highlights the critical aspects of ladder safety, starting with the need to follow all ladder markings and ensure they are readable. Understanding and Following Ladder Markings Ladder markings provide vital information about the ladder's capacity and usage guidelines. Stephen stresses the importance of ensuring that these markings are readable and adhering to them strictly. Overlooking these details can lead to misuse and potential accidents. Avoiding Electrical Hazards Electrical hazards are a significant risk when using ladders, particularly aluminum ones. Stephen advises being extremely cautious around electrical lines and always assuming that any line could be live. He recommends using fiberglass ladders in areas where electrical hazards are present, as they are non-conductive and safer. Inspecting Your Ladder Before Use Before using a ladder, it's crucial to inspect it for any signs of damage or wear. Stephen advises checking for missing screws, warping, frayed ropes, and worn-out rubber feet. Regular inspections ensure that the ladder remains safe to use and helps identify any issues that need to be addressed before they become serious problems. Maintaining Three-Point Contact Maintaining three-point contact is essential for ladder safety. This means keeping two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand on the ladder at all times. Stephen emphasizes that this practice provides stability and helps prevent falls. He also suggests using tool belts or ropes to carry tools, ensuring that hands are free to maintain contact with the ladder. Using the Appropriate Ladder for the Job Choosing the right ladder for the job is crucial. Stephen emphasizes the necessity of using a ladder that is rated for your weight and the equipment you carry. Overloading a ladder can cause it to fail, leading to serious injuries. He also points out the importance of using ladders that are appropriate for the specific task, whether it's an extension ladder, step ladder, or a specialty ladder. Keeping Ladders Clean and Free from Slippery Materials Slippery surfaces can cause accidents. Stephen advises keeping ladders clean and free from any slippery materials such as oil, grease, or mud. Ensuring that the rungs and feet of the ladder have good traction helps maintain stability and prevent slips. Placing Ladders on Stable, Level Surfaces A stable and level surface is essential for ladder placement. Stephen recommends using ladder levelers if the ground is uneven. He also advises against placing ladders on unstable surfaces or materials that could shift or give way under the ladder's weight. Proper Extension of Ladders Extension ladders should extend at least three rungs above the roofline or the level you're working on. This ensures that there is enough ladder to safely transition onto the roof or platform. Stephen also advises maintaining a 1:4 ratio of distance from the wall to the height of the ladder to ensure the correct angle for safety. Using Cones or Hazard Tape in High-Traffic Areas In high-traffic areas, it's important to use cones or hazard tape to alert others to the presence of the ladder. Stephen emphasizes that this practice helps prevent accidents by keeping people and vehicles away from the ladder, ensuring a safe working environment. Checking All Locks on Extension Ladders

Over the last few months I've had many conversations with clients and potential clients where their previous training was typically 3 sets of 15 reps where weight was held constant for the entire workout. This may be more common than I had thought, or maybe it's just because I've never trained that way. I've always started with a lower resistance for maybe 12 reps, then started to drop reps and add weight with each progressing set. Something like a 12x10x8x6 rep scheme over 4 working sets, while bumping up resistance each set to challenge the new rep demand. So for this episode, I wanted to dive into the many things you can take advantage, both physiologically and mentally, by dropping reps and adding weight with each set compared to the prior. I think this could be a game changer for you if this is new to you :)Hit me up on IG @dr.nicktrubee or visit trubeehealth.com for more ways to connect and work with me.
Avoid Overloading Your Sprints - Mike Cohn Someone asked me the other day, “Is there a maximum size for a sprint backlog item?” The simple answer is yes. A team should not bring any item that is more than half of its average velocity into an iteration. As an example, if a team's average velocity is 30, and the team estimates using the Fibonacci series, the maximum size sprint backlog item would be 13. In general, I'd like items much smaller than that. But half of the average velocity is the max. To understand why large items create problems, consider a recent experience I had at a hotel. My room was on the 15th floor. That floor also had a handful of meeting rooms, each of which looked as if it held around 20 people. One afternoon, I left my room and went to the bank of elevators. Unfortunately, this was seconds after the meetings let out, sending hoards of attendees surging out of the meeting rooms. I suddenly found myself waiting for the elevator with perhaps 70 other people. Those elevators, each with a capacity of around 10 people, were not designed for a sudden need to transport 70 people. They were designed instead to transport individuals or small groups of 2, 3, 4 or 5. Each sprint is like an elevator. It's very effective when you load your sprints up with a set of small items. Put something large into a sprint, though, and work can back up just like passengers waiting for an elevator. But what if the team needs to bring in something bigger in a certain sprint? My first recommendation is to attempt to split the item into smaller items. (I wrote about 5 simple ways to split stories. Try those first.) If you can't split it, go ahead and bring the large item into the sprint but balance its largeness by bringing in some much smaller items. Doing so will smooth the flow of work from one skill to another, such as from programmers to testers. Keeping things smaller will smooth the flow of work through an iteration, and will help you succeed with agile. Before the 1990s, small bits of RNA were considered junk by most, but the 1993 discovery of microRNA (miRNAs) began to reveal that bits of only 19-24 nucleotides of RNA can have an important gene regulation function in cells. Since their discovery, there has been a flurry of work to catalog known miRNAs and understand their functions, which include being tied to specific disease states such as leukemia. According to our guest, Dr. Guy Novotny, Molecular Biologist at Herlev Hospital in Copenhagen, it's now relatively easy to identify a miRNAs and follow their expression, but to figure out what they're actually doing is a real challenge. We hear how he and his team have recently adopted digital PCR, and the benefits that come with it, to study microRNAs and figure out what proteins they're regulating the expression of. This includes basic research, where Guy is “adding to the big pile of data that's existing out there,” and he also does clinical research that has a closer connection to specific disease states and subject outcomes.
