In this podcast, Michelle and Alex pick up where they left off in Part 1, discussing how the sale of 111 Minna that left them as co-owners went down. The original owner, Ei Ming, left Michelle in charge, and there was a lot of stuff she had to figure out how to do. A few years down the road, she brought Alex in to help, and soon enough, the two ended up buying the place from Ei Ming. 111 Minna Gallery is still closed to the public due to COVID-19 restrictions. But they're fundraising and hosting virtual events from time to time. Please follow them on Twitter and Instagram and check their website for more info. http://www.hunterfranks.com/shop/threehundredandsixtyfivelists-book Hunter Franks creates ways for people to share introspections, hear other people’s stories, and reimagine social norms. His practice encompasses community-based public art, visual work, writing, and installation. He shares cultural commentary and conducts actions that display that we are all far more similar than we are different. As people begin to contemplate their own role in shaping culture, they begin to reimagine the possibilities present for connection, empathy, love, and joy within their own lives, their neighborhood, and their city. His projects include a 500 person dinner on a freeway, a storytelling exchange to connect disparate neighborhoods, a swing on a subway, and a year of creative daily lists. His Neighborhood Postcard Project has been carried out in 26 communities around the world from Chennai, India to Santiago, Chile and he is the founder of the League of Creative Interventionists, a nationwide network of community catalysts using art and culture to reimagine their cities. His work has been carried out in public spaces and venues around the United States including the de Young Museum, Mural Arts Program, Asian Art Museum, 111 Minna Gallery, Akron Art Museum, Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival, and Detroit’s Eastern Market. His work has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, the Guardian, Fast Company, Curbed, and Univision. In 2014, Franks was named to GOOD Magazine’s GOOD 100, an annual showcase of individuals at the cutting-edge of creative impact. In 2016, he was chosen to participate in the Studio Residency Program at Root Division, a San Francisco arts non-profit. In 2017, Franks received a Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Fellowship to address equity. In 2018, his idea to transform a freeway into a forest won the Knight Cities Challenge, a nationwide call for civic ideas. Brett Crawford came up from San Clemente for his 111 Minna Gallery show and hung out with us at Monty Guy’s studio to record this podcast! He tells us the story of a mural near WonderlandSF gallery before getting deep into his story about coming up from being a drug-addict 18-year felon to turning his life around via art. He tells us about scoring a job at a print shop and used samples to make friends in the art scene, viewing the Choe Show, and his views on life and death. We hear the story behind his painting featuring Geoffrey The Giraffe called “Taking Geoffrey Home,” his “Fuck Cancer” tag, and more. We hear his side of the infamous “Pretentious C” story (fun fact: he was the other guy Josh was talking to!) and how he made a bad first impression at Thinkspace Gallery. We end with some good advice about how to handle rejection and fantasizing to manifest the reality you want. We were really inspired by his story of his drive to redeem himself and you will be too. His 111 Minna show opens Friday July 6th, 2018.

Jeff Campbell is a natural, and any lover of music can see that when performing, he is doing what he was born to do. Jeff's onstage experiences have found him sharing the stage with members of Counting Crows, Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead and opening for Grammy-winning band Train. Early 2012 saw the release of Campbell's first-ever acoustic album, "Stop and Go". With this album, Jeff fulfilled his promise to stay true to the songwriting style that P&B fans have come to know but also to test some boundaries with production, approach and style. "Stop and Go" also boasts guest performances from several of the Bay area's finest musicians, including Megan Slankard, Brad Brooks, Austin Wilacy and James Deprato, who not only offered their performance talents, but also lent their hands with songwriting, arrangements and production.SF Recording and Mastering engineer Michael Romanowski approached Jeff in early Feb 2012 and said he wanted to start a live recording/DVD series from Coast Recorders, a staple SF recording studio that has been around for decades that he recently took over. He asked Jeff if he would like to be his pioneer act, recreating his entire last album (Stop and Go) from start to finish, totally live, in front of an invited studio audience. Jeff said heck yes, put an email out to my mailing list asking who would be interested, the response was overwhelming and we filled the room with the first 75 RSVPs, a 4 camera crew and full audio crew on Feb 26 and filmed and recorded it. They captured the full essences of a live, in studio performance of a record that had many tracks on the studio version initiially. We had fun Stop and Go Live at the Coast Primer DVD party this Friday at 111 Minna Gallery, San Fran, Ca Link to event https://www.facebook.com/events/206868272777784/
