Sergio Lopez has built up programs everywhere he's been a head coach. Currently, he's the head coach at Virginia Tech, but he also won a conference title while captaining the West Virginia program. His most legendary stop, though, may have been being the head coach at the Bolles School Sharks, where he coached Olympic champions Ryan Murphy, Caeleb Dressel, and Joseph Schooling, who were all in high school at the time. Listen to Sergio think back to coaching Murphy and Dressel and what he recalls about what he learned as a coach by working with such immense talents.

Sergio Lopez and Giovanni Vitale have a goal to empower men to join the conversation on Natural Family Planning. Show notes: (0:03) We meet Sergio and Juanita Lopez and learn about their introduction to — and immediate skepticism of — Natural Family Planning. We also learn that their marriage faced trouble, and they were considering divorce when Juanita suggested NFP as a way to reconnect. (2:35) Sergio talks about the struggles he and Juanita were facing and their decision to try Natural Family Planning. Sergio was skeptical at first, but he shares how it illuminated the disconnect that he and Juanita were feeling and equipped them to start overcoming it. (6:18) Juanita and Sergio become certified NFP instructors; they also begin a Spanish course to remove barriers to the NFP Creighton model that the Spanish-speaking community previously faced. (8:08) Nicole Joyce, the Archdiocese's Natural Family Planning Coordinator, discusses NFP's main goals and how it can place the responsibility for pregnancy and childcare on both the husband and wife. We learn, too, about the gender disparity in interest in NFP and how a group of men in the Archdiocese of Detroit are working to shift that gap. (10:33) Giovanni Vitale, co-founder of Whole Mission, discusses the mutual understanding of shared responsibility that is integral for couples and families to thrive. He talks about the importance of praying with one's spouse about the Lord's call for the family, which begins with having a formed conscience. He also shares practical ways that men can become involved with fertility management. (15:00) Nicole talks about the earliest ways sexual responsibility can be formed and Natural Family Planning can be promoted, and the importance of discernment and intention in fertility discussions.
Hello, this is Eric LeMay, a host on the New Books Network. Today I interview Sergio Lopez-Pineiro about his new book, A Glossary of Urban Voids (2020). It's one of the more fascinating books I've encountered in some time. And I say "encountered" because it's not only a book, in the traditional sense of something you read, but also a keen intellectual and aesthetic experience: the very design of the book and its use of the glossary as a form open up exciting ways of thinking and seeing. And this is very much to the point for Lopez-Pineiro, because the urban void about which he writes is a phenomenon that resists definition. It is, in his words, "unspecified and underspecified." And that's exactly what makes it so intriguing. Join me in hearing Lopez-Pineiro show us how some of the most seemingly overlooked and neglected areas of our urban environments may end up being the most crucial for our freedoms and our possibilities. Eric LeMay is on the creative writing faculty at Ohio University. He is the author of five books, most recently Remember Me. He can be reached at eric@ericlemay.org. Learn more about your ad choices. We sat down with Virginia Tech head coach Sergio Lopez, who spoke about the shock that everyone felt when the NCAAs were ultimately cancelled. Lopez, who is still currently coaching a group of post-grads training for the Olympic Games out of a private pool in Virginia, also shared his opinion on whether or not they should postpone the Olympics. Lopez thinks that health needs to come first in this situation. With so many athletes unable to train for the time being and the numerous health concerns and hazards that could arise at a Games in Tokyo while the Covid-19 outbreak could still very much be thriving, Lopez believes the Games should be postponed. Brett HawkeOlympic Swimmer-Olympic Coach&Coach Sergio Lopez Miro en "The Moment In Time"7th Live Show Podcast(9 de Mayo, 2020)Always a pleasure to chat about life with my dear friend Brett Hawke. This morning we had a great LIVE stream chat and we spoke about his thought process when he was a swimmer and a coach and how he balanced both. Interesting to see his approach to become an elite swimmer was different that to become an elite coach. Great to see that his children are doing great and that he is spending more time and more quality time with all of them. Also very impressive how he has been able to double the number of clinics done by "Fitter & Faster" the company he started working two years ago when he decided to step down from coaching college. I know first hand after working with him at his camps that the young swimmers that he gets to talk to are learning a lot from him and all the elite swimmers he brings to these camps.Well, listen to the show and enjoy!

Sergio Lopez aka The Main Loop is a North Bay Area based fine artist who specializes in oil landscapes, contemporary nude figures, plein air paintings, and charcoal drawings. He has won multiple awards and has been featured in Juxtapoz, Hi-Fructose, Spectrum, Bluecanvas, as well as many online publications. He is also the co-founder of the North Bay Plein Air Painters group and has been helping organize monthly paint-outs since 2009. Full shownotes: http://yourcreativepush.com/themainloop In this episode, Sergio discusses: -How he got into the plein air scene and the differences between painting outdoors and painting in the studio. -How he tries to only paint something that he is seeing with his own eyes or has seen before, as he doesn't trust photos to accurately portray the subject matter. -How his goal is to keep as little distance as possible from himself and his paintings so as to get the most accurate representation of what he sees and feels. -How and why he started the North Bay Plein Air Painters group. -His advice for anyone interested in trying out plein air painting. -Some of his earliest memories of being creative. -How he often gets bored of what he has been spending a lot of time doing, and that is usually when he switches up his medium to keep things fresh. -Some of the struggles that come from being a full-time fine artist. -How he knows that he works better at night, so he shifts his schedule to work with that. -The power of turning off the Wi-Fi. Sergio's Final Push will inspire you to figure out WHY you want to be an artist. Quotes: "All the lessons that you learn from intensely observing something, you can do that from any subject you want to work from." "Even now when I paint from photos, I almost never paint from something that I haven't painted yet before." "For me, the goal is to have something that feels like I was there or I am still standing there and getting that feeling that I remember." "If you're a person who paints in the studio and never has gone out, I'd say you're missing out on a lot." "When I got to school I quickly realized that I was in the wrong department." "It took a while to get to a certain sort of rhythm." "Find out why you want to do art. As soon as you figure out why, it's a lot easier to focus your energy and resources on how to do it because you'll have a goal to strive for. Without that road map, it is more of a wish than a goal."
