Just in time for the 40th Anniversary of "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock," Scott & Steve are stealing "Enterprise Incidents" for a special 2-part deep dive into this underrated "Star Trek" classic. Soon after the U.S.S. Enterprise returns to earth bruised and battered after Captain Spock died saving the ship during the battle in the Mutara Nebula, Admiral James T. Kirk learns that his beloved starship is going to be decommissioned. Plus, all is not well with his friend, Dr. Leonard McCoy, who has not been acting like himself. That's when he receives a visit from Spock's father, Sarek, who questions why he left Spock's body behind on the Genesis planet. It turns out that Spock's essence had been merged with McCoy's, and now both of them are in danger, unless Kirk can take matters into his own hands and bring them to Vulcan. Originally released on June 1, 1984, "Star Trek III" has always been seen as a solid, but somewhat unspectacular installment of the "Genesis Trilogy," even though it featured the directorial debut of none other than Leonard Nimoy. But upon closer inspection, "The Search for Spock" is a better movie than it was ever given credit for, and it features stellar performances from William Shatner, DeForest Kelley and Christopher Lloyd as Klingon Commander Kruge. Scott and Steve are thrilled to be joined for this conversation by Steve's partner from The Cine-Files (and fellow Star Trek fan) John Rocha. The podcast... out of danger? In the latest installment of DorkFest: The Podcast, the Dorks navigate the Mutara Nebula, stop off at Genesis before it explodes and slingshot around the sun as they examine the iconic Star Trek film trilogy that is Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock and Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home. They answer all the burning questions from these tremendous films. Which character has the best story arc in the trilogy? What's the best musical moment? Which actor delivers the best performance within the 3 films? And of course, which is their favorite? Disclaimer: there will be plenty of jokes (stories with a humorous climax) but the colorful metaphors were kept to a minimum.

It’s tricky to narrow down a favorite film of all time, but me, I frequently do: Star Trek II: The Wraith of Khan. Nicholas Meyer directed and wrote — uncredited — that film. On today’s episode, we talk with him about why that writing credit was uncredited, his pathway from novelist to writer/director, his B10 college movie column that was apparently more popular than Roger Ebert’s, the current state of his written but un-filmed Khan mini-series, and the surprise cinematic influence on Khan’s much-beloved “Battle of Mutara Nebula” sequence. Meyer’s most recent novel, his fourth Sherlock Holmes “edited by” story, is The Adventure of the Peculiar Protocols: Adapted from the Journals of John H. Watson, M.D.
In this episode we play the mission "The Mutara Nebula". We had a bit too much to drink on this episode. It's like Kahless said, "Double the warnog equals half the battle readiness." We had a lot of fun with this one, but we got a little tanked. Clearly ours is not the superior intellect.
The pilot of the red gunship looks down at the Tolmekian transports flying in formation. Nausicaa looks down at the toxins swirling below. Richard has some scifi holiday raps for Christmas.
In this bonus episode of Strange New Worlds, Michael recaps his experience seeing Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan during its 35th-anniversary screening and shares some new science-related tidbits that he noticed in the end credits of the movie. Standard Orbit 174: Battle of the Battles Battle of the Mutara Nebula Vs. Battle of Khitomer Star Trek was never about big space battles but the movies, as well as the series, had some pretty intense skirmishes. In this week's Standard Orbit: we look at two big battles from the TOS movie timeline: TWOK's Battle of the Mutara Nebula and TUC's Battle of Khitomer. Zach Moore is still off filming in an undisclosed location. Earl Grey's Richard Marquez joins me to discuss these two exciting scenes and compare the differences in approach, scale, tactics, and outcome. Battle Music in Star Trek. The Star Trek franchise tells many stories including stories of love, betrayal, exploration, mystery, and intrigue. One type of story has been told several times in Star Trek, and that story is WAR. It is a story that can be told in many ways. Sad. Melancholy. Epic. Brave. In this episode of Melodic Treks, host Brandon-Shea Mutala focuses on the militaristic side of the final frontier, and shares a special themed episode on the battle music of Star Trek. Five Favorites With Alec Peters. A fan of Star Trek since it first aired in September of 1966, Alec Peters has done an amazing feat by changing the way society sees an independent film production. Crowdfunding through Kick Starter and other sites have resulted in approximately $1.15 million raised to produce his film, Axanar. However, a law suit by CBS in December of 2015 put this production to a halt. In this episode of Melodic Treks, host Brandon-Shea Mutala is joined by Alec Peters, the star, writer, and producer of Axanar, to discuss the current situation of his film, our favorite episodes of each Star Trek series, the Cardassians, and Alec's five favorite tracks from the Star Trek franchise. Brandon-Shea also reads several pieces of listener feedback. Commentary: Trek Stars: The Work of Star Trek Creators Outside of Star Trek
Meyer Part 5: Black Orchid. In 1977, Nicholas Meyer teamed up with his University of Iowa classmate Barry Jay Kaplan to write his fourth novel, Black Orchid. The book was Meyer’s first attempt at something outside of the mystery genre, specifically historical fiction. It looks at the Brazilian Rubber Boom of the late Nineteenth Century, and the United Kingdom’s attempt to steal rubber seeds in the hopes of breaking up Brazil’s rubber monopoly. This week, Max and Mike are joined by Matt Rushing of Trek.fm’s Literary Treks and The Orb to discuss the book’s strengths and weaknesses, whether or not Kaplan’s influence hurt the overall work, the protagonist’s similarities to Indiana Jones, the real life history behind the fiction, the inherent drama of seed-stealing espionage, the finale’s similarities to the Battle of the Mutara Nebula, and why The Undiscovered County is the perfect title for Star Trek VI.
