This is Trek Tuesday, another special by Volume 4, and we have two conversations.First, At a junket for another TV series, I had a chance to chat with F. Murray Abraham, and he told me an interesting story about Star Trek Insurrection. Morgan Shepard is a great actor. He's had a distinguished career. Unfortunately, we did lose him a few years ago. He's been on Star Trek The Next Generation several times, and we talk about that a little bit, but his last appearance, it turned out to be, was one of the Vulcan council of the Vulcan Science Academy, that Spock had applied for membership. That's a key moment in Spock's life, and Zachary Quinto was the only actor that did that scene from Spock's life. Start Your Free One Year Trial Today For Sci-Fi Talk Plus

Speaking of strange new worlds. Jay and Nate review Star Trek: Insurrection (1998).
Hosted by Andrew Quinn and Darren Mooney, The 250 is a (mostly) weekly trip through some of the best (and worst) movies ever made, as voted for by Internet Movie Database Users. New episodes are released every second Saturday at 6pm GMT, with the occasional bonus episode between them. This week, Jonathan Frakes' Star Trek: Insurrection. On routine assignment to the Briar Patch, Commander Data suddenly and mysteriously malfunctions. Acting against orders, Data takes a covert Starfleet team hostage and exposes their activities to the indigenous population known as the Baku. Sensing that there is more to the story than Starfleet will admit, Captain Jean Luc Picard leads the USS Enterprise on a mission to discover what exactly has happened to their beloved colleague. At time of recording, it was not ranked on the list of the best movies of all time on the Internet Movie Database.

In this, the final Star Trek episode, we are discussing the the final 2 Next Generation movies with Star Trek Insurrection and Star Trek Nemesis.
In yet another deluxe length episode Ken Radner moderates an in depth review/discussion of Star Trek: Insurrection from 1998 with panelists Kyle Bain, Holly McMiller, Greg Vorob and returning guest Ryan McVie also discussing how the film's place in Star Trek fandom has evolved over time.
Wiz RECOMMENDS Star Trek: Insurrection An improvement from the last two "Next Generation" films, Star Trek: Insurrection seems like it takes some of the best elements of the best "original series" films and inject it into this crew. What are those elements? Humor and action. Both Generations and First Contact seemed to be a little too serious, including having a scowling Picard and a Riker that seems to just do what he's told, for example. In this film, the personalities seem to be more up front: Picard is more charming, debonair and worldly, Riker has a romantic streak...and hell, even Data seems to have more of a personality with his inquisitive nature. Seriously, it's strangely such a plus to see a good amount of the crew just...smile more. But when the action ramps up, the film is a good amount of fun. Insurrection has some good dogfights and shooting sequences that keep the action lively. But in honesty, there's two problems with the film: First, the villains are boring. Both the corrupt Federation Admiral Daugherty, played by Anthony Zerbe, and Ru'afo, played by Salieri himself F. Murray Abraham, are both not that interesting and Abraham cheeses up the overacting towards the end of the film. The point where the Ba'ku are attacked leads to a end of 2nd/beginning of 3rd act that kind of drags the film down. It just seems like more is going on than is necessary....but in fairness, the end makes it worth the slog. In fairness though, Star Trek: Insurrection is the best time I've had with the "Next Generation" crew thus far. Which is odd considering that some think this is the worst of the four, but I honestly had a better time with Insurrection than the others. It still doesn't even hold a phaser to any of the "Original Series" films, but I'm fairly sure nothing will at this point.
On "Phasers Set To Stun," we recognize the popularity of all things Star Trek, with a look at the television shows, animation, movies, and more. This week, SepTIMEber concludes with another charming British time travel rom-com that segues into fam-dram territory before it reaches the finish line. It's 2013's About Time, written and directed by Richard Curtis, and starring Domhnall Gleason, Rachel McAdams, Bill Nighy, Tom Hollander, Margot Robbie, Lydia Wilson, Vanessa Kirby and an uncredited Richard E. Grant. It's once again the final Friday of the month, as even this theme month can not stop the inexorable march of time, and Hayley's got the keys to the vault this time around, as she's chosen to nominate a cozy comfort film that's come to mean a great deal to her over the last decade. It's a cute movie with a sharp premise that plays a bit like if Edge of Tomorrow was a romantic comedy -- at least as far as it's interested in being a romantic comedy, anyway. We debate, as always. If you'd like to watch the movie before listening along to our conversation, About Time is not currently available to stream in Canada at the time of publication, but is rentable on YouTube, Cineplex and Amazon. And you can nab it for $5 on DVD at your local Sunrise Records. Other works discussed on this episode include Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek (2009), Spider-Man: Far From Home, San Andreas, Lost, Super 8, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Arrested Development, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Early Edition, Phantom Thread, Saltburn and Love, Actually..., among others. We'll be back next week to kick off a new theme month as we put SepTIMEber in the past and move on to four weeks of frights, as Spooktober begins with a meeting of the minds from George A. Romero and Stephen King: 1982's Creepshow, which is currently streaming north of the border on Hollywood Suite. The rest of the Spooktober schedule includes 1408, The Birds, and our October canon consideration The Thing! It's gonna be a great month, so come on back, and until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

The Oscar winner recounts shooting the climax of this Star Trek movie.
Happy New Year! Season 2, episode 5 is here. Our guy Dominic is still home taking it easy, recuperating. As such, Connor, Mark, and Erica talk some surprisingly insider baseball with the incredible journeyman actor Gregg Henry, known to the world for his roles in huge movies like Guardians of the Galaxy, Slither, Payback, etc., and for being in nearly every notable television show since the ‘80s — a great “been in everything” actor, he is better known to us Trek fans for his role as the Arkonian pilot notorious for shooting down Trip Tucker (Trinneer) and having one of those “we are enemies stuck on a planet and don't understand each other” episodes in Enterprise episode “Dawn.” He also played Gallatin, the good hearted bad guy in Star Trek: Insurrection. Notably (for us), he ALSO played Sheriff Bourne in an episode of Firefly. Above and beyond being a real actor's actor, Gregg Henry is also a remarkable blues pianist and musician, known by his full name Gregg Lee Henry, he was kind enough to tickle the upright with his original “You the One.” He discussed working with great directors like Brian de Palma and James Gunn, wearing Trek makeup, fighting with Connor, his politically charged performance as Caesar, and how amazing Angela Lansbury was to work with, and more. Erica gets some fan questions in, Connor and Gregg play for Patreon Member Eve England in this week's Star Trek Trivia, and we all get a peek at the Patreon exclusive games “Stuck on a Deserted Island with Connor Trinneer” and “Do We Know Our Own Guest?” The full conversation is available for our amazing Patreon Members. If you enjoy this show, please like and subscribe! We're experiencing a perfect moment in time this week as we slow down to enjoy the third TNG film: "Star Trek: Insurrection"!Sasha Wood of Casually Comics returns to the show this week to discuss Michael Piller's uneven but endearing contribution to the TNG film series. The Enterprise discovers a remote planet of enlightened but defenseless race who is being victimized by the cruel Son'a. When the Federation forbids Picard to interfere, the captain and his crew will have to weigh their responsibility to Starfleet against the Ba'ku's right to exist! The benevolence of the Federation and Starfleet are taken for granted in Star Trek storytelling, but it would be naïve to deny the parallels between Starfleet's mission of discovery and the adventurous (and often predatory) explorers of Earth's past. Coming on the heels of the action-packed "First Contact", "Insurrection" was an attempt to refocus the TNG film series on the complicated themes that made its television counterpart so engrossing, and even though it wasn't an unqualified success, the film continues Trek's tradition of holding a mirror up to human (and alien) nature. On this episode, we talk about the evolution of the character of the Federation, what we expect from Trek and Trek films, finding the right allusion, maintaining perspective in space, struggling to escape the "Roddenberry box", and the lengths that the powerful will go to to retain power. We also discuss Trek "humor", the pre-warp vest/shirt combo, Rogaine and story ideas, "Heart of Lightness", Movie Picard, cutting the kiss, making your own bread, kids watching kids, sci-fi Angie, apt song usage, "Activate Logitechnology", drug-dealing gun-running alien friends, "Dougherty out.", the sexiest Star Trek movie(?), and a Brazil's worth of face-stretching!Put that beard back on!Watch Casually Comics and Shippers Guide to the Galaxy on YouTube!Casually Comicshttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjKC1V-BWoFRVLAmYeoPCWwShippers Guide to the Galaxyhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvp198WlRp6t72Rm5YXvOTwLearn the story behind your favorite Trek episodes with BackTrekking!http://www.twitter.com/backtrekkingPlay with us on Facebook and Twitter and the Just Enough Trope Discord!http://www.facebook.com/eistpodhttp://www.twitter.com/eistpodhttps://discord.gg/WVvCHVWqzfBuy us a purple space bazooka on Patreon and Ko-Fi!http://www.patreon.com/eistpodhttps://ko-fi.com/E1E01M2UASubscribe to the show on iTunes!https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/enterprising-individuals/id1113165661?mt=2

Welcome back to Morgan Hasn't Seen with Jeannine Brice & Morgan Robinson!! A farewell to The Next Generation and a farewell to double features on this week's episode of the Star Trek series on MHS as Jeannine and Morgan ponder why a better follow up to First Contact couldn't have been made and how their final movie together feels like anything but a 'final movie'; talking STAR TREK: INSURRECTION (1998) with its youthful rebellious energy and F. Murray Abraham with a very stretched face and STAR TREK: NEMESIS (2002) with its intense exploration of duality and particularly striking performance from Tom Hardy!!
