Brett Young is a country music singer/songwriter from Orange County, CA and now based in Nashville, TN. He is known for pioneering his own sound, that is dubbed "Caliville". Brett has released six studio albums and has enjoyed tremendous success in his music career. He has been nominated for numerous CMT Music awards and has topped the Billboard Country Airplay chart with his song, "In Case You Didn't Know", which has since gone eight times platinum. A true example of someone who never gave up, Brett was 35 when he signed his first record deal.  In this episode, Brock and Will dive deep into Brett's early life and how he got started in music. Brett was a very talented baseball player before an injury forced him to change course and pursue music full time. Jeff Bates signed to RCA Nashville in late 2002, Bates released his debut album Rainbow Man in May 2003. A second album, Leave the Light On, was released in 2005 on RCA. He left RCA in 2006. This album was followed by Jeff Bates in 2008 on the independent Black River Entertainment. Bates' two RCA albums accounted for seven chart singles on the Billboard country charts, of which three reached top 40: "The Love Song" (his highest, at No. 8), "I Wanna Make You Cry" at No. 23, and "Long, Slow Kisses" at No. 17. He's the artist relations representative who helps decide who gets onto the stage at the country music tradition, so he's seen a little of everything over his years spent in the music industry in Nashville. In this episode of The Fred Minnick Show, Jordan sits down with Fred to talk about the music business, bourbon, the city of Nashville, and of course to sip some fine whiskey. It isn't always about talent, but rather also about having the right support and marketing. "What I try to tell artists early in their careers ... if you're doing this for the right livings and you can earn a living the rest of your life, you have made it." Jordan compares bourbon to music insomuch is that it's an art form. Fred picked bourbons to taste that are cinnamon- and caramel-forward, and he hit Jordan's palate right on the money. (He particularly liked the Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch.) Jordan talks about blending Old Forester 1920 with Old Forester 1920 to make an Old Fo 1915. Blending, of course, is a common practice for bourbon lovers, Fred included. Fred doubles down on a previous declaration of the Elijah Craig being "absolute bliss." " I used to spend hours when I was a kid pouring over the liner notes on records looking at who the writers were, in hopes of one day I would be writing songs with some of those guys."  Brad's dream came true in March of 2011. Brad has gotten a chance to write with legendary songwriters such as Kim Williams (Papa Loved Mama, Aint Going Down Till The Sun Comes Up), Doug Johnson (Three Wooden Crosses, Love Like Crazy,) Beverley Ross (Lollipop, Judy's Turn to Cry) and Nashville Recording Artist Keith Anderson (Pickin Wildflowers) just to name a few. With super well-crafted tunes, powerful lyrics combined with Brad's high energy live set is always a crowd pleaser!
