They begin the show with an extensive and fascinating conversation about Emerald Fennell's ‘Wuthering Heights,' starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi (2:22). They explain why they found her provocation unsuccessful, why Robbie and Elordi were miscast in their roles, and how the film doesn't look nearly as good as it should. Then, they discuss Harry Lighton's delightful debut feature, ‘Pillion,' starring Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Melling, which they all absolutely adored (1:02:13). Finally, Sean is joined by Lighton to discuss how he approached adapting the original source material for the film, why he purposefully avoided classic biker and leather films as inspiration, and how he coordinates intimacy on screen (1:23:33). God doesn't say “I told you so”—He says “welcome home.” And God's mercy is bigger than your mistakes. This episode is for anyone who has ever felt too far gone, too ashamed, or too broken to return. No matter your past or how far you've drifted, God is still watching, still waiting, and still leaving the light on. Grace is greater, mercy is deeper, and home is always open.Do you know JESUS?: https://www.nblongview.org/do-you-know-jesusNeed PRAYER?: https://www.nblongview.org/praySUPPORT through giving: https://www.nbbctx.org/giving

Featured Musician: Terry Klein THE VIDEO: [After THE JUMP: Things discussable.]  --------------------- Not necessarily in this order. 1. Northwestern Preview starts at the top They're fine. Their offense plods but for one good receiver or when their QB throws an INT, which he's got accuracy problems that were visible when he was a Rhett Ashlee QB at SMU. Their defense is decent, rotates, plays sound football of a Lloyd variety. Alex likes edge Aidan Hubbard more than Michael Kilbane (whom PFF prefers). Their DTs are a little undersized so they jump behind the line of scrimmage, which Nebraska was able to exploit down the stretch. 2. Northwestern Preview cont. wsg Rodger Sherman starts at 13:56 What's it like being a Northwestern fan these days? It's spending $800 million on an unnecessary stadium instead of players, because you can't put your name on players. 3. Wake Forest After-Action Report, and a short TCU Preview starts at 27:45 How many ways can we say Mara is a star? Defensive ceiling is ridiculous. Three-big lineup needs a name. We also talk about Matt D's findings regarding the defensive play of Michigan's guards, which was not at all what we expected. 4. Purdue Upon Further Review starts at 44:58 Young offensive line plus Zack Marshall and Jalen Hoffman continue to be good blockers—might meet their match vs Ohio State. Jordan Marshall is a beast. Bryce's second half wasn't great either—he was not feeling comfortable in the pocket, missed some RPO reads he made earlier. Need a bye to get right. Defensively, I wasn't mad about Wink. Don't say on the internet that I was mad. Defensively the kids were not alright and the defensive rotations were still weird, but more explainable given the injury circumstances. Long drives were explainable until Purdue figured out they were just running nail (where you insert a blitzing LB as a 5th lineman and play 5-1). Interested in Lugard Edokpayi. Featured Artist: Terry Klein I usually don't go for country music, but I do when it's made by Terry Klein (LSA 1995), a folk country artist from Austin who's been touring festivals the most hallowed singer-songwriter venues across the country for decades, and reading a lot of MGoBlog between stops. Send us a textWhat if the real question isn't “Is tech good or bad for kids?” but “How much, when, and to what end?” We sat down with Melissa Harries again, a psychologist with a sharp eye for evidence, to unpack what decades of research actually say about phones, gaming, and social media—and why the dose often makes the poison. Rather than fearmongering, we explore the markers that matter: sleep quality, school engagement, emotional regulation, and the social skills that only grow through real-world practice.Mel breaks down how dopamine-driven design keeps kids (and adults) hooked, why “just five more minutes” rarely works, and the simple leverage most families overlook: control the Wi‑Fi, not just the device. We get practical with black-and-white household rules that avoid grey-area arguments, term-by-term contracts that adapt as kids grow, and data caps that keep mobile access useful without undermining boundaries. We also confront the tough bits—cyberbullying, misread comments, the temptation to block instead of repair, and the reality that girls often face higher social media risks around body image and mood. This conversation looks beyond scare stories to what builds resilient, capable humans: boredom that sparks creativity, play that demands negotiation, and communities that agree on common-sense age limits so no child is the “only one” left out. Whether you're co-parenting across two homes or just exhausted after a long day, you'll find steps you can try tonight—devices out of bedrooms, scheduled internet off, notifications tamed—and a mindset shift from policing to coaching. If you're ready to swap power struggles for clear structure and more real-life wins, press play and join the conversation. “Practice teaches us to have faith in the process,” says Andrea Barrett, National Book Award winning author. In this episode of Emerging Form, we speak with her about her newest book, Dust and Light: On the Art of Fact in Fiction. It's one of the most metaphor-rich, process-curious shows we've had yet. We explore the joys of rabbit holes, the importance of not knowing what we are looking for, the inevitability of false starts (and how to let go of the work we've done), why we shouldn't worry about writing unreadable first drafts, how to develop the muscle of intuition, and the questionable wisdom of how we teach creative writing.Andrea Barrett is the author of the National Book Award-winning Ship Fever, Voyage of the Narwhal, Servants of the Map, Natural History, and other works of fiction. She has received a MacArthur Fellowship, a Guggenheim Award, an Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, an NEA Fellowship, and the Rea Award for the Short Story, and been a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. She lives in the Adirondacks. This is a public episode. If you'd like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit emergingform.substack.com/subscribe

Discussed in this episode:Thanks to @Ben-Schulman on YouTube for the information!BETH'S BACK STORY: All of Beth's songs are personal and delve deeply into themes of addiction; drugs & alcohol; abusive relationships; death & suicide; love; Scott (her husband of 23 years); her siblings & parents; living with mental illness; survival; playing music; and striving for happiness… She is a humble but wickedly talented artist who is raw, transparent, and completely honest with her audience. Some of the many personal and professional challenges she has endured and overcome:• Parents divorce when Beth is about 5 years old.• In psychological therapy starting at age 7.• Experiences a violent home invasion and robbery.• Father gambles the house away; abandons family; imprisoned for tax evasion. (The song “Try a Little Hard” off her latest album is about her dad and gambling).• Beth is an alcoholic by age 11.• At 12 years old, she's in a “relationship” with a 40 year-old man (The song “Woman Down,” off her latest album, is about this).• At 15 she takes off for Brooklyn, NY to live with a violent 25 year-old man.• Arrested & briefly jailed for DUI.• At 16, back in LA, she's asked to leave a prestigious music school because of poor attendance (caused by her staying out all night long to sing in South LA clubs).• In a string of abusive personal relationships. (She's written many songs about this theme, but “Caught Out in the Rain” and “Fire on the Floor” are two superb examples). • When Beth is 22, an older sister Sharon dies of AIDS at age 32.
