Calling all of the foxy cowgirls to the floor! If Beyonce' got you excited with Cowboy Carter let Cultivating H.E.R. Space keep the good times rolling by introducing you to the dynamic trio making waves in country music. Chapel Hart is a Nashville-based country group with roots in Mississippi taking the genre by storm. The two sisters, Danica and Devyn Hart, and their cousin Trea Swindle join Terri and Dr. Dom for a lively, spunky, real conversation about the ups and downs breaking into a traditionally white, male genre. They talk about how getting their start in church gave them a solid foundation to not only keep themselves motivated, but also to keep their eyes on their own paper and run their race. This advice has taken the group far as a self-funded indie group letting their voices be heard on the America's Got Talent stage (leading to them making it to the finals in 2022) and on the Grand Old Opry stage (where they received four standing ovations). They drop gems about what it means to own your dreams and not let anything deter you from being as successful as you want to be. Chapel Hart is a dynamic group making waves on the country music scene. This terrific African American female trio is breaking down barriers and making headlines in Nashville. It's well-deserved. They wowed all the judges on America's Got Talent, the Today Show, Taste of Country, and the Grand Old Opry and were featured in Rolling Stone Magazine. Two of their hits include “You Can Have Him Jolene" and "This Girl Likes Fords." Chapel Hart are independent artists who have created their own road map by turning no's into “notivation.” They are determined. They want to be one of the American Go Bands and be world celebrities in the next 10 years. They also love Dolly Parton. Get inspired and entertained with their perspectives on life and music in this lively interview when Shelley Johnson and Kathy Tuccaro feature their songs and talk to Danica Devynn Hart and Trea Swindle in this episode. https://www.chapelhart.com/https://womenroadwarriors.com/http://www.womenspowernetwork.net/ #ChapelHart #CountryMusic #Motivation #BreakingBarriers #ShelleyJohnson #ShelleyMJohnson #KathyTuccaro #WomenRoadWarriors @ChapelHartBand

Stigall comes in hot today after reports of another "bipartisan" deal to fund Ukraine and supposedly fund border security to avoid a "government shutdown." Now that a woman is murdered in Georgia by an illegal alien from Venezuela - Stigall says now is not the time to flirt with the party who has blood on their hands. Julie Kelly gave a winner of a CPAC speech over the weekend and joins the show today to discuss the continuing Fanni Willis scandal among other court proceedings critical to the country. Trump crushes Haley in South Carolina so of course the media wants to misrepresent Trump's words to blacks in the state - which were actually well recievied if you hear them for yourself as you will here. Plus, Stigall ponders 15 years of Big Tech, the Grand Old Opry, and Stanley Thermos Cups. The earth shifted for me when I heard Uncle Dave Macon for the first time. This was when the Harry Smith Anthology was released on CD in 1997. The energy of this man, swingin' his claw hammer banjo and elating me with his infectious humor, brought the sepia-toned 19th century to boisterous life, and I was smitten. I began listening to, and reading, as much as I could get my hands on, and although the “Dixie Dewdrop” died the year before I was born, he was kinetically alive for me, lifting me out of whatever funk I happened to have been in, into a realm of pure joy. What an inspiration for an aging aspirant: He was discovered by accident by Marcus Loew of the Loews Theatre chain at the age of 50, and elevated to the heights of radio stardom on the Grand Old Opry, and national recording acclaim. How fortunate that these technologies, though in their infancy, were around to document the power of this entertainment fireball. He was a beloved amateur (in the truest sense of the word), who had simply enjoyed entertaining customers along his freight hauling mule line. This exemplifies Joseph Campbell's assertion that if you just follow your bliss, everything will flow from that. This was simply how he lived, and as one of his band members attested: “all day long, from morning til midnight, it was a show.” And, what a show it was!
What a week. We talked to Chris Daughtry about his upcoming show at the La Crosse Center with Breaking Benjamin, and we talked to Wade from Rock Fest on Thursday when the lineup was released! On top of that, we talked about some easy ways to burn calories, a new device that electrocutes the allergies out of your nose(supposedly), and a dog that helped save it's owner after he fell through some ice on a lake. This week's Monday Morning Throwback was from 2014 when we were trying to help Skradie make a few extra bucks. We reacted to Elle King's drunken performance for Dolly Parton's birthday celebration at the Grand Old Opry, and on Monday's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about Taylor Swift's stalker getting arrested again, a couple in Kansas that hid a dead body to collect retirement funds, a dude in Philly who killed his neighbor because of loud snoring, and the guy who stole Dorothy's ruby slippers back in 2005 finally revealed why he did it. On Tuesday, we found out that Sammy Hagar is actually Sammy Belcher??? Brian raved about his Zevo fruit fly devices, and during Tuesday's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a school in NC that removed the mirrors from the restrooms to help stop kids from filming TikTok videos, a guy who got shot in the head but mistook it for a rock for FOUR days, and a #FloridaMan who got pulled over & gave his license to a cop…but it was covered in meth. Shaw aced this week's movie quote during "You're killin' me, Shaws", giving Brad from Viroqua a $70 win! We also had a couple of stories about babies being born in the car on the way to the hospital. Also, after Tyler Bass missed the game-tying field goal during last weekend's Bills/Chiefs game, people starting donating to his favorite cat shelter in his honor. And during Wednesday's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about the foul-mouthed parrots at a British wildlife park, a kid in Utah who duct-tapes dead fish to ATMs, PETA's desire to replace Punxsutawney Phil with a giant gold coin, and a guy on a plane who wouldn't stop farting. Thursday morning, we talked with Daughtry about his upcoming show with Breaking Benjamin at the La Crosse Center, and we talked to Wade from Rock Fest as the lineup dropped online! We also found out that pasta makes us happy, and that TJ Watt is a hell of a guy! On Thursday's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a 9 year old boy in France who lived by himself for the past two years, a lawmaker in California who wants to limit how fast new cars can go, and a trio of criminals that have been nicknamed "the Three Stooges. Friday morning, we talked about the "Ketchup Challenge", and Brian voiced his opinion on the reboot of "Road House" starring Conor McGregor & Jake Gyllenhaal. Plus, the story of how some underwear ended up on the ice after a hat trick. On Friday's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a #FloridaWoman who was killed by a gator, the Valentine's Reese's PB hearts that look like a specific part of the male anatomy, some Amish people who had their horse & buggy stolen, a couple in Portland that had a tree destroy their house AFTER they tried to get it taken down, and a politician who wants to bring back duels! SEASON 2, EPISODE 110: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: THIS IS TUESDAY JANUARY 23rd, THE EIGHTH DAY OF TRUMP'S DEMENTIA CRISIS: While Trump and his defenders quadruple-down on the Orwellian lie that he MEANT to conflate Nikki Haley and Nancy Pelosi and January 6th, Trump adds a new reason for serious concern about his mental stability. In an interview in New Hampshire for the primary, Trump is asked about Haley's insistence he is not competent and in one answer invokes Dr. Ronny Jackson, can't remember his name, recalls it, moves to a different topic, and then brings up Ronny Jackson again - as if for the first time. There's a reason Ron DeSantis did NOT end his campaign, but, like Ramaswamy, only suspended it. Like Haley, they both know that something above-and-beyond all previous problems has hit Trump and they will stay quietly and obediently in the background until it - or something else - comes and gets him. There is little to report from New Hampshire, though the networks and newspapers will report it anyway. They will also tell you that Trump did better in Iowa than he will in the Granite State even though the reverse is true - because math may be hard but bucking the conventional wisdom is harder. Trump got 51% of the voters (and 7% of all Republicans) in Iowa. He may get 57% in N.H. That would be MORE. B-Block (20:23) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: It's time for The New York Times to stop publishing the same column Maureen Dowd has rewritten every week since 1997; how NOT to suppress the news in Colorado (28:25) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: The DeSantis War Room loses the battle of South CAROLINIA. When not to sue because the ladies trashed you on Facebook. And when they invite you to sing at Dolly Parton's birthday and you start swearing and The Grand Old Opry has to apologize for - your career is over. C-Block (33:05) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: A friend gave me some winter clothing bearing her company's logo and I flashed back to this time in 1980 when United Press International gave me my official Lake Placid Winter Olympics parka and...the lining wasn't fur or down or foam but CONSTRUCTION PAPER.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

You may recall that a few weeks ago, I played a couple of interviews with the great Vinny Ciesielski. He's a wonderful person and has been a mainstay for years in the Nashville music scene. Welcome to Part 2 of my interview with Vinnie Ciesielski! Before I say anything else, let me point out that the link I share to access the show notes during the episode is incorrect. The show notes for this episode are https://trumpetdynamics.com/trumpetvinnie2. I believe I left out the number 2 during the interview because I initially planned to have this be one giant episode, but wisely chose to break it into two parts. And what a part this is. Vinnie and I dove deep into the "why" of playing trumpet. The "How" tends to be rather superficial, which is why I don't have much interest in podcasts like that. But the "why" is what gets me excited, and Vinnie surely did not disappoint with his insightful comments in this one.Enjoy! What you'll hear in this episode:-More in-depth dialogue on the "good day and great day" concept...05:05-The need for healthy lifestyle for success on trumpet and overall quality of life...08:30-Self-loathing equates to loathing your environment...13:30-Why and how Vinnie has played with a rare condition that causes loss of feeling on the left side of his body...17:20-If you can feel your face, you're ahead of the game!...25:00-Shame is a wasted emotion...32:00-Keeping things real regarding the importance of trumpet...36:00-Adapting to radically changed physicality, and thoughtfully losing weight so it stays off...43:30-Music a salve for tremendous joy and intense loss...53:45-Are we "called" to trumpet?...58:45-A father's offhand comment while watching TV proves prophetic...01:03:30-Plus whatever your discerning ears deem worthy of your time and interest...Resources mentioned:Vinnie's websiteMy Fitness Pal appTrumpet Dynamics podcast with Beth PeroutkaAbout the Guest:Attending Towson University in Maryland, Vinnie Ciesielski majored in music performance on trumpet, which he has played professionally for over 50 years.Since coming to Nashville in 1992, Vinnie has played on thousands of recordings with artists such as Lyle Lovett, Travis Tritt, Tracy Byrd, Smokey Norful, Tanya Tucker, Glenn Frey, T.D. I'm so thrilled to be able to share today's very special episode with you. If you've ever been to Nashville, Tennessee at all, you probably know why it is called "Music City". Walk down the famous Broadway Street of downtown and you'll hear live music beckoning from every restaurant and bar. Everywhere you turn, there are legendary music venues such as Ryman Auditorium and the Grand Old Opry. Modern-day Music Row -- the area around 16th and 17th Avenues South -- is populated with a collection of recording studios, record labels, entertainment offices -- all kinds of businesses related to the music industry. Nashville has also long been known as the "Songwriting Capital of the World" because songwriters from all over the globe come to Nashville to learn about and collaborate in the art of songwriting. Nashville is one of our favorite places to visit as a music-loving family, and when our family stole away for a quick getaway to Music City, I was so excited to be able to connect with Nashville singer/songwriter Tori Tullier. Today's podcast episode is a bit longer than our typical episodes around here, because I'm sharing my interview with this lovely songbird. I think you'll find it fascinating to learn about the art of songwriting from someone who actually does this for a living! Tori is as warm and lovely as she is talented and was so generous with her time in answering my questions about her life and career with thoughtful candor. After you listen to Tori Tullier's interview, you're going to want to listen to more of her music and follow her. Are you who you wanted to be? Every one of us has a different upbringing, a unique story, and personalized struggles. I think we can all remember being asked who we want to be and what we want to do when we grow up? My own pursuit to live my purpose has me asking questions and searching for answers. A recent date night to see Lainey Wilson and a youtube binge inspired by Leila Hormozi changed my perspective and motivate me to be who I want to be. Being fortunate enough to experience Lainey Wilson Country with a flare tour up close and personal left me with a perspective I didn't expect. From witnessing someone who is wildly successful fully appreciating her journey and embracing her moment. Hearing her story from Being a 9-year-old girl on a family vacation and how a trip to the Grand Old Opry fueled a lifelong commitment to chase her dreams inspired me to ask myself if I am who I always wanted to be. https://laineywilson.com/https://www.instagram.com/laineywilsonmusic/?hl=enhttps://www.youtube.com/c/LaineyWilsonhttps://www.facebook.com/laineywilsonmusic/https://www.tiktok.com/@laineywilsonmusic?lang=enThe YouTube algorithm blessed me with an amazing video that helped inspire today's show this video introduced me to the amazing Leila Hormozi a first-generation Iranian American entrepreneur, investor, philanthropist, and all-around badass! Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast we are talking to country music royalty. We are talking to Lisa Sutton who's has not one but four musical legacies and estates to look after. Her mother, the great singer Lynn Anderson is best known for her iconic #1 hit, “Rose Garden” and released, count ‘em, 72 singles in her career. Lisa's father, was Nashville Songwriter Hall of Fame member Glenn Sutton who produced “Rose Garden” and wrote the Grammy winning David Huston hit “Almost Persuaded” as well as “What Made Milwaukee Famous (Made A Loser Out of Me)”, “Your Good Girls Gonna Go Bad” & countless other songs. The architecht of Countrypolitan sound of the 60s, Glenn's songs were recorded by everyone from Etta James to The Louvin Brothers to Jerry Lee Lewis and Rod Stewart. What's more, Lisa's grandparents were Casey Anderson and Liz Anderson. Liz wrote many country music hits in the 50s and 60s including “Wife of the Party” and “Mama Spank” and it was Casey who invited an iconic soon-to-be country music icon back to their house for pancakes after a show that led to Country music history. What's more Lynn talks to us about growing up in a household where being the ‘hero child' was something of the norm, where riding horses was a huge part of life. What's more, Lisa is so invested in her family legacy that the amateur Rosarian, even brought about the comeback of the world champion Lynn Anderson Hybrid Tea Rose. From songwriting credits, to intellectual property to memorabilia to following through on her parents and grandparents wishes, we don't think you will find anyone more dedicated to her family legacy than Lisa Sutton. And it's all next on the Rarified Heir Podcast.

I want to talk about this today for just a few minutes because I wanted to make sure everyone's really clear on what's really needed. How much time you should be spending on due diligence. Because I think sometimes people do due diligence overkill. And I get it, but there's some things that are reliable, some things are not. And that's where the grain of salt comes in. So let me back up here. What are we talking about? A deal comes back, I send out the mail. Purchase agreement comes back. Now I'm looking at the deal online. I'm like, Oh,

Hee-haw and hubba-wha, it's the Roy Clark episode of The Muppet Show! It's not going to set the world on fire but it's a pretty fun time, with dogs and frogs and pigs and chickens and ducks and foxes and…mustachioed flutists and empowered sex workers? Throw in the Grand Old Opry, Fallout, and some serious concerns about fire code violations, and you've got yourself a Muppeturgy! https://muppeturgy/episodes/roy-clark
The title is a true statement that cannot be refuted. This does not necessarily mean that everyone loves Tiny Tina, but they should. Also this week, Chamberlain is missing (he was in Nashville and avoided the Grand Old Opry for reasons), Chance and Alex play a little more Elden Ring and no one gets slapped. Sorry to dash your hopes on that one.
Welcome to Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, not your ordinary small town! The town was named after Smith Paul, who settled in the area in the 1830s and built a large farm house. The town eventually grew up around the homestead. The town is home to the Toy and Action Figure Museum, which becomes a pretty serious topic of conversation for us. The museum was named a "Top 50 Most Authentic American Experience" by Time magazine. Jean Shepard was born in the town in 1933. Shepard was a honky-tonk style country singer and her 1953 album was the first post World War II record by a woman to sell more than a million copies. She was invited to join the Grand Old Opry in 1955 and was a member for more than 60 years. We hope you enjoy our visit in Pauls Valley.

#Nashville is hot. Much larger than Atlanta, its metro population is surging, and this vitality is reflected in multiple ways. In this episode we hear from Susan Edwards, the director of its Frist Art Museum since 2004, and learn about the institution's origins in an Art Deco post office and its trajectory to become of the South's most vital museums, along with the city's philanthropic culture, its stubborn identity as a democratic stronghold in a reliably Republican state, the challenges it met and addressed throughout 2020 to today, and the arc of her career—up to and including recent certification in art crime training. Equipped with a doctorate in art history and a knighthood conferred by the French Republic, she has flourished in a cultural milieu best known for a sister organization called the Grand Old Opry—and brought diversity and distinction to Tennessee without a hint of pretension.

S3 E12 HONKYTONK DEADPOOL DEADPOOL, the wise-cracking meta-superhero is not the same as THE DEAD POOL, from 1988, the final Dirty Harry film; running on thin enough fumes that podcast fave Buddy Van Horn (S3 E10) was called in to nominally direct a script written by a trio of antioxidant advocates with zero film experience (none of whom would ever work on a film again). Liam Neeson and Jim Carrey are both in it, pre-fame, so it has that going for it. When a remote control car chase is a major selling point, you may be looking up at the bottom of the barrel. Or is The Dead Pool a misunderstood masterpiece that turns genre convention into meta-commentary for next level satire? Then 1982's Honkytonk Man, a little seen labor of love for Eastwood and an early stretch as director. It's a road movie about a Depression-era singer with TB (not Tom Brady but tuberculosis) and his nephew going to the Grand Old Opry. Our pal Patrick, a DJ and record store proprietor, joins us once again to tell us the value of this movie if it were a vintage LP. THE DEAD POOL 00:03:12HONKYTONK MAN 00:41:45

Say a hearty "Howdee" to Sarah Colley -- known to comedy fans worldwide as country comedy superstar Minnie Pearl. It seems like Almost Yesterday that I first heard the song “On the Wings of a Dove.” This haunting melody was written by Robert Ferguson of Willow Springs, Missouri. In 1958 Ferguson was the manager of another Missourian , country singer Ferlin Husky. Husky was born and raised on a farm near Flat River, Missouri. Every Saturday night in the 1930s, the Husky family radio was tuned to the Grand Old Opry. Young Ferlin loved to sing and a family story is that his father traded a hen to a neighbor for a guitar for the youngster. Husky served in the Merchant Marines and after World War II returned home and worked at radio station KXLW in St. Louis with one of the great characters of country music and western movies – Smiley Burnette. Husky then made his way to Bakersfield, California where he worked as a disc jockey and sang under the name of Terry Preston. In Bakersfield, Husky teamed with female vocalist Jean Shepherd to record a song about a soldier jilted by his girlfriend. “A Dear John

Originally from rural Bonnyville, Alberta, he is surely no stranger to the world of country music with a career filled with accolades and achievements including multiple awards (such as a Juno for Best Country Recording, a four time Canadian Country Music Award winner, and SOCAN Songwriter of the Year). Bellamy has dominated the stage performing at the Grand Old Opry and even for President Carter, and is best known for his rock n' country style, reflected in both his music and fashion sense (with a little inspiration from Marlon Brando's Wild Ones). He is an artist who believes actions speak louder than words, a statement which holds true throughout his successful career as both a solo artist and notably, a member of the award-winning band The Road Hammers.
Ever wonder how artists get to appear on the Grand Old Opry? Well, Jordan Pettit is the answer. He's the artist relations representative who helps decide who gets onto the stage at the country music tradition, so he's seen a little of everything over his years spent in the music industry in Nashville. In this episode of The Fred Minnick Show, Jordan sits down with Fred to talk about the music business, bourbon, the city of Nashville, and of course to sip some fine whiskey. Whiskeys tasted: Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch (21:11) King of Kentucky (22:42) Michter's 20 Year (23:32) Wild Turkey Revival (25:12) Thomas Handy (26:56) Elijah Craig 17 Year (29:52) Glenlivet 20 Year (38:27) EPISODE SUMMARY Among the topics Fred and Jordan discuss are: Jordan remembers seeing country star Chris Stapleton playing a small room to people who had no idea who he was. This was not long before he broke and became a star. He also talks about how "so many things have to line up" for an artist to "make it" in country music. It isn't always about talent, but rather also about having the right support and marketing. "What I try to tell artists early in their careers ... if you're doing this for the right livings and you can earn a living the rest of your life, you have made it." Jordan compares bourbon to music insomuch is that it's an art form. Fred picked bourbons to taste that are cinnamon- and caramel-forward, and he hit Jordan's palate right on the money. (He particularly liked the Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch.) Jordan talks about blending Old Forester 1920 with Old Forester 1920 to make an Old Fo 1915. Blending, of course, is a common practice for bourbon lovers, Fred included. Fred doubles down on a previous declaration of the Elijah Craig being "absolute bliss." QUOTABLES Speaking about watching up-and-coming artists performing on the Grand Old Opry for the first time, Jordan said, "When you get to see an artist step into that lineage, to step into honoring those artists' legacies, and carrying this Opry show into the next 95 years of where we're going, you see their faces and you get to see raw emption happen because it's truly like a coming of age for them." It's a new year, and with that comes a new podcast episode! In this episode, host Jason Skipper talks with Miller Piano Specialists General Manager Sherry Smith about the latest news and events happening at Miller Piano. Topics Discussed: Ted Yoder at the River of Calm Concert in January Miller Piano Specialists Music Academy Recitals February Writer's Night (First Thursday of Month - Russ Roberts and Friends) February River of Calm Concert (Third Thursday Ed Bazel) C'Ya On The Flipside II" Benefit Concert at the Grand Ole Opry on Feb 5 The Yamaha Lunar New Year Promotion Transcription Jason Skipper 0:11 Welcome to the Miller Piano Podcast where in each episode we explore the world of music and pianos, how technology has changed over the years in music and the latest happenings at Miller Piano Specialists. I'm your host, Jason Skipper. And I'm here with Sherry Smith, the general manager at Miller Piano Specialists in Cool Springs. Sherry, how's it going? Sherry Carlisle Smith 0:33 It's going wonderful. Jason, how's it going with you? Jason Skipper 0:36 Doing good, doing good. It's been a while since we've talked here, at least on the podcast. How was your holiday? Sherry Carlisle Smith 0:43 The holiday was wonderful, extremely busy. some wonderful new Yamaha friends and clients and it's just been a great Christmas season. And I hope everybody enjoyed theirs like I did mine... Jason Skipper 0:57 Awesome I know that you're talking about several new clients and things that are happening. I'd like to talk about that in a moment. But I know that you've been traveling a good bit Are you back for good now? Sherry Carlisle Smith 1:08 I'm back for good for a while, I never know I do travel quite a bit. And I traveled to Southern Indiana quite a bit where my family is located and I do a radio program up there. The bread of life ministries on Sunday's, and if I'm not there, and I'm traveling, thanks to the wonderful edge of technology, I can actually do a streaming live radio show from anywhere. Jason Skipper 1:33 Isn't that great I love it. Sherry Carlisle Smith 1:35 It's awesome. Jason Skipper 1:36 It really is. It really is. I know. You said it's been busy. I know there have been several events on the calendar over this past month. I saw on Facebook that we had Ted Yoder at the River of Calm Concert a few weeks ago. Is that right? Sherry Carlisle Smith 1:51 Ted is awesome. He is from Indiana and plays a hammer dulcimer and has a fantastic wonderful following He has a new project that just came out. And we always love to have Ted here because he is just a remarkable entertainer and performer and musician. Jason Skipper 2:10 Ted's amazing. I know, I remember years ago, when I still... I lived in Bolivia for a long time. And when I was still in Bolivia, I remember seeing him on the Internet. I don't know if it was on Facebook or on YouTube, but one of those viral videos, it's like, wow, you know, just amazing. Sherry Carlisle Smith 2:27 He started on YouTube. So that was probably it. Jason Skipper 2:29 Yeah, exactly. And I did see that the Music Academy, Miller Piano Music Academy had an event just maybe a week ago. Is that right? Sherry Carlisle Smith 2:38 They did. We had three of our recitals and we have recitals about two to three times a year. And they had them back to back last week. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, I believe. Jason Skipper 2:48 Is that right? Okay. Well, very soon we're going to do a podcast talking about the Music Academy because it is definitely something that I know that we're proud of, that Miller Piano is proud of and so, definitely want to talk more about that here soon. Sherry Carlisle Smith 3:04 I want you to because musical education is the future. Jason Skipper 3:09 It really is. I was looking, you know, I was kind of looking around about it and I saw something that really caught my attention. The philosopher Plato, once said that "music is a more potent instrument than any other for education". And I thought that was pretty cool. Sherry Carlisle Smith 3:30 It is. It's, it's a well-known fact, and I'm kind of getting off subject here, but it's a well-known fact, if your child is involved in music, that their math skills, their English skills are all improved scholastically because of music. Jason Skipper 3:46 It's amazing. All right. So coming up here in February, what events are scheduled at the store? Sherry Carlisle Smith 3:54 What we have at the store in February, the first Thursday of this month, we will have Writers Night with Russ Roberts and Friends, and he is a writer that will bring in another writer and we never know what musician's going to come. It's always live on our Facebook, or we welcome you to come in and enjoy the fun with us. It's about an hour and a half. And we usually have somewhere, I think around 850 online viewers. So we're all over the board with our viewers and we have a great hoedown time. Nobody knows what song's going to pop up because they're original. And the musicians just jump in and it shows you how Nashville really works. Jason Skipper 4:36 That's awesome. 850, is that what you said? Sherry Carlisle Smith 4:40 Yes. Jason Skipper 4:41 850 Well, for our listeners out there, if you have never seen it, you need to go to the Miller Piano Specialists Facebook page. I believe it is facebook.com/millerpianospecialists, Is that right? Sherry Carlisle Smith 4:58 You just go Miller Piano Specialists and it pops up. Jason Skipper 5:01 Pops right up there! Sherry Carlisle Smith 5:03 If you do like us and follow us you will actually get a notification when we are live with our events. Jason Skipper 5:12 Very, very cool. Yes, I pulled it up right now and it is facebook.com/millerpianospecialists all together or you can just search it and it pops right up. So, good deal. Is that all that's going on in February? Sherry Carlisle Smith 5:23 Oh, absolutely not. And we actually, on the third Thursday, we will have The River of Calm with host Ed Bazel here, and he has not announced yet who our artists will be. But as soon as I know the top-secret information, it will be on our Facebook and our website, so that you can either join us live in the studio where we have some wonderful appetizers from Black Diamond Culinary. And we enjoy an hour's worth of wonderful, relaxing, calming music. It is streamed live on Facebook and it's also streamed live on the radio River of Calm. The other exciting thing. We've got something else coming up. We're going to be working with the Elton John autographed Red Piano Limited Edition. Jason Skipper 6:15 Right. Sherry Carlisle Smith 6:16 And we are going to be working Wednesday the 5th of February at the Grand Ole Opry house with the Troy Gentry Foundation. Jason Skipper 6:27 Awesome. Sherry Carlisle Smith 6:28 Pretty exciting. Jason Skipper 6:29 Pretty exciting. Sherry Carlisle Smith 6:31 Yeah. Jason Skipper 6:32 So tell me more about that. Give me some details. Sherry Carlisle Smith 6:36 It is gonna be, the Troy Gentry Foundation was actually one of our clients, and to keep his legacy going, they do a benefit concert with different artists. And then the money is given out to. Actually one of the foundations I think they give to is music and schools and Kentucky, but they have several places where the money is spread out to keep Troy's foundation going and to keep his memory and the love of music going, and love God and love others, I think that was one of his personal beliefs. So we're going to be involved in that through this wonderful Yamaha Limited Edition Elton Signature. And since Elton could not be there at seven o'clock, he's on tour. His piano will be center stage as people come in, and the wonderful technology of Disklavier will be playing, keys moving, Elton John music right there while you're being seated. Jason Skipper 7:41 That is awesome. Sherry Carlisle Smith 7:43 And then the different artists that will be there will be playing on the piano. So they're going to be doing some personal playing on the Elton John piano and actually, there is a list, I can tell you a few performances like Rascal Flatts, Blake Shelton, Dirks Bentley, Dustin Lynch, Craig Morgan. There's a list of thousands and you can find this by looking up the Troy Gentry Foundation concert on the Internet. Jason Skipper 8:15 Okay, yeah, I just looked it up here. I think I found one here on Vents Magazine. It talks about "See Y'all on the Flip Side II", I believe is the name of it at the Grand Old Opry on February 5. And yeah, as you mentioned, there are quite a few artists so definitely look that up. Vents Magazine and search for See ya on the Flip Side II. Sherry Carlisle Smith 8:37 It is going to be a star-studded evening and your tickets are going for a great cause. So if you're looking for something to really have a great time and support a great cause, you can get your tickets at Ticketmaster and opry.com. They're going to range anywhere from like $45 to $125 which, for what you're going to get that night, it's going to be incredible. Jason Skipper 9:00 That's incredible. Yeah Sherry Carlisle Smith 9:01 I'm so happy Miller Piano gets to be a part of that. Jason Skipper 9:05 So this piano, it talks about recordings of Elton. I guess he'll be in New Zealand it looks like. He'll be Zealand while he's on there but he'll be playing. Sherry Carlisle Smith 9:16 What the Disklavier has, is it has about 37 average radio streaming stations and Elton, of course, playing Yamaha Pianos. Elton has his own station. So we will be tuning in to the streaming station where all of your favorite Elton John's will be playing on the piano, the keys moving, it's an incredible experience. If you've not experienced a Yamaha Disklavier, please stop by and see us at 650 Frazier Drive because what you will see that night is what we have on our floor, except ours are not read or autographed by Elton. Jason Skipper 9:59 Oh, we need to get one of those! Sherry Carlisle Smith 10:02 I need to get a gold pin and mine are mostly black today. Jason Skipper 10:05 Oh, wow. Well, we've talked about the Disklavier a few times but it's amazing. So how many stations did you say there are? Sherry Carlisle Smith 10:13 I believe there's around 37 now. I may be off by two or on by two. Most of the stations are going to be genres of music, Gershwin, that type of thing, Elton John. But they also have different stations. They add in like there's always a holiday station. And that's incredible because every month they have a different holiday theme of music, the Grammys, the Oscars. And we have something else I need to say! Jason Skipper 10:45 Yes? Sherry Carlisle Smith 10:45 We need to do a big shout out and congratulations also. This year, you know, we have our MPS award show. And we have a horizon award of young people that are on the horizon. And Yates McKendree was one of our winners this year. I was surprised this week. Yates accepted a Grammy! Jason Skipper 11:11 Shout out to Yates! Sherry Carlisle Smith 11:12 19, and he accepted a Grammy for a guitar-playing, I believe, part on Delbert McClinton's latest album. So we are just, I feel like it was like destined to be and it was like... we knew that there was a lot of stuff happening with this young man but never in my wildest dreams did I think at 19 he would be receiving his first Grammy Jason Skipper 11:39 At such a young age. 19. Well, shout out to Yates, congratulations! That is incredible. Awesome. Sherry Carlisle Smith 11:47 So you never know what's gonna happen at Miller Piano Specialists! Jason Skipper 11:51 I hear you there. So I know that at Miller we just started with the Yamaha Promotion which is the Chinese New Year, the Lunar New Year correct? Sherry Carlisle Smith 12:02 Correct. We started that on the 25th. Jason Skipper 12:05 Can you give us a rundown exactly what that entails? Sherry Carlisle Smith 12:07 Yeah, it is a great, great program. It celebrates the Chinese New Year, the Lunar New Year. I believe it's the Year of the Rat this year. And what Yamaha does in conjunction with that is they do a rebate program from Yamaha. So it goes up to $1,000 rebate. So, and depending on the Piano that you choose, and there's a list in our store listed of the different Pianos and the rebate prices that you would get back from Yamaha, for purchasing. Jason Skipper 12:35 Right Sherry Carlisle Smith 12:36 So it's a very great program and we celebrate this, we try to celebrate this once a year, and they have made some great offers on great pianos with savings for you right now. So please come by and check that out. You will see Red Envelopes with Chinese writing of the new year on them and inside will be your card and it will tell you the different prices that you are going to receive the rebates on which pianos. Jason Skipper 13:02 So now's the time to get out there and look at them get by the store. Sherry Carlisle Smith 13:07 Right now because this only lasts... it fell on an odd time... and I believe this only lasts through right at the end of February. It started a little bit early because we have a leap year this year. Jason Skipper 13:22 Right. Right. Okay, got ya. Sherry Carlisle Smith 13:24 So you want to get in as soon as you can because things are moving pretty fast. And inventory. Yes, we can always order it for you, but wouldn't it be much nicer just to have it delivered in 48 hours? Jason Skipper 13:36 Yeah. and have it there, be able to see it, get it, test it out and then get it during the time. Exactly. So before we finish up any other exciting news going on right now? Sherry Carlisle Smith 13:49 It's always exciting here with the crew that works here and that we're crazier than bedbugs. We love what we do. We absolutely love meeting the people. Seeing you. We've always got coffee. Come by, see us, hang out with us, play some pianos, you might find just the thing you're looking for. Jason Skipper 14:08 For anyone who follows Miller Pianist Specialist on Facebook, you should know when Sherry says that they're crazier than bug beds. Yes. You can tell... Sherry Carlisle Smith 14:19 Bed bugs, bed bugs. Yeah. No, it's an old saying. Jason Skipper 14:23 An old saying that's awesome, though. But well, good deal, Sherry, I appreciate your time here and anything else you wanted to say before we finish? Sherry Carlisle Smith 14:32 No, we just want to thank everyone for your support through the years and we're looking for many more and come see us at 650 Frazier, Dr. Franklin, Tennessee, in between Sperrys and Basset Furniture, or you can call us at 615-771-0020. About This Episode's Guest: Nick Forster ( http://nickforster.com ) is a professional musician, record producer, radio host and Executive Director of a non-profit organization based in Boulder, Colorado. He is most widely known as a long standing member of the award winning bluegrass band, Hot Rize and as the host and founder of the musical and environmental radio program, eTown. Born in Beirut in 1955 while his father worked for the State Department, Nick was raised in upstate New York. He started playing drums at age ten, but abandoned them in favor of his first guitar a year later. As a teen, he played in folk and folk-rock bands. His desire to pursue music as a career in the mid-seventies led him to Colorado, where he worked at the famed Denver Folklore Center. It was there he met the three young men with whom he would form the contemporary bluegrass band Hot Rize in 1978. For the band, Nick supplied bass, vocals and guitar and was also well known as the M.C. and host. He won recognition as a writer as well, earning praise from Rolling Stone Magazine as “an exceptional songwriter.” Hot Rize established an acclaimed international reputation, releasing ten albums and touring worldwide fulltime for over 12 years. The band appeared on countless radio and television programs, including Austin City Limits, The Grand Old Opry and Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion. Hot Rize earned both a Grammy nomination and the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year Award in 1991. Ironically, in the face of this success, the band members collectively decided to pursue individual projects later that year and went into semi-retirement. In September of 2014, Hot RIze released When I'm Free, their first new studio record in 25 years and will be touring heavily through 2015. The Bluegrass world is welcoming them back with open arms. Based on his varied experiences, and while on a musical State Department tour in eastern Europe, Nick conceived the idea of a new concept in radio - eTown, the popular weekly radio variety show now heard worldwide. As eTown’s host, Nick leads a radio program that entices the audience with live performances from today’s top musicians, then engages listeners with conversation and information about our communities and our environment. His warm on-air wit, insightful interviewing skills and stellar guitar playing are hallmarks of the show. eTown shows are recorded live at the brand new solar-powered eTown Hall in downtown Boulder, adding eco-friendly and innovative high-end music venue building skills to Forster's resume. In addition to eTown and Hot Rize, Nick remains an active player in the music world, performing at major festivals around the globe and playing recording sessions for various artists across all genres. He also is an accomplished record producer with a Grammy nomination and other prestigious awards to his credit. Nick lives in Boulder, Colorado with his wife Helen and their cat Lucy. He has three daughters and one granddaughter. For More Information On This Podcast: Visit http://cowboysindians.com and search "Tales From The Trail". Rodney Edmonson started drumming early. He was playing gigs by his early teens in his native Virginia. His first thought was to become a music teacher or band director until he came to the realization that he'd rather play than teach after his first year of college. He soon found himself relocating to Nashville where he began his journey trying to make a living as a drummer. On episode 075, Rodney and Jamie discuss his early years, making the move to Nashville, playing the Grand Old Opry dozens of times with The Whites, and landing his current gig 27 years ago. Rodney has toured and recorded with Country Music Hall of Fame inductee Ronnie Milsap since 1992 playing Ronnie's legendary catalog of music. Rodney offers some great advice on what it takes to break into the Nashville scene by relaying his experience and knowledge. His playing has been heard by millions around the world and Rodney is a living testament to good guys winning in the music business.
This episode of the Life in the Carolinas podcast was recorded on location during the 2019 Kruger Brothers Music Academy in Wilkes County, NC. Carl spoke with Jens about his musical journey and the events that led to his moving from Europe to Wilkesboro more than 15 years ago. Jens and his brother Uwe began playing music at a young age, and by the time Jens was 17 in 1979 the two were performing on the streets of various European cities. They were signed to CBS Records based on their talent, and the rest is history. In 1982, Jens spent some time in the US where he learned from Bill Monroe and was advised to go back to Europe and continue fine-tuning his musical style until it was something very unique. He and his brother kept writing and playing, and they developed their own style, which was not very well-received by their European audience, so they were surprised when they received an invitation to play MerleFest in 1997. That experience was monumental for them, as they finally felt that their music was appreciated and they received a lot of support from icons in the bluegrass and folk community. In 2003, Jens decided to move his family to America to take advantage of the creative freedom and acceptance he anticipated, and due to his experience at MerleFest and the rich musical culture of the region, he chose to move to Wilkes County. Jens’ whole family felt welcome in the community and quickly developed friendships that have lasted from those early days. Now that The Kruger Brothers are traveling and touring all over America and the world, Jens has an even greater appreciation for the musical community of the High Country and for being able to call it his home. In fact, he started referring to Wilkes County and the surrounding areas as the “heart of folk” many years ago based on his heartfelt experiences. In recent years, The Kruger Brothers have helped establish the Carolina In the Fall musical event and they have created The Kruger Brothers Music Academy which draws attendees from all over the world. In addition to the rich relationships he has developed with his brother and other musicians in the community such as Bill Monroe and Doc Watson, Jens has received multiple notable recognitions: playing with Bill Monroe at the Grand Old Opry, having the flag at the US Capitol flown in his honor for his contributions to American culture, receiving his green card, winning Steve Martin’s Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass Music and playing with Steve on the David Letterman Show, being inducted into the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame, and many more. I have loved this little firecracker for over a decade. I met Kelly when I was in college at Belmont, and we became fast friends. At that time she was a single mom of 2 amazing kids, an A&R consultant, hosting a TV show, making furniture, and basically a powerhouse machine doing it all with THE MOST optimistic attitude. That's Kelly. Life never gets her down, and you won't find her whining that it's not fair. She always sees the glass half full, and is not afraid to work hard and get her hands dirty. She also is never afraid of being told NO. She will always find a way, and I admire that so much about her. She tells me her amazing love story with Chris Janson... How he knew he loved her instantly; how he was thrilled and honored to get to be a step dad to her kids, and even asked them for permission to marry Kelly. Kelly now goes on the road pretty much full time with Chris, manages him, is a Publisher (has a co-venture with Warner-Chapel), is a songwriter and also has 2 more precious kids with Chris. We talk about the moment Chris was inducted into The Grand Old Opry as the youngest living member and what a day in the life of the Janson household looks like.... Hint hint, it's NEVER boring! MONSTER CITY: Murder, Music & Mayhem in Nashville’s Dark Age Bestselling true-crime author Michael Arntfield To most, Nashville, Tennessee is music’s most beloved city: the home for country’s biggest stars, concerts on every corner, and blissfully strolling down Lower Broadway in a colorful wake of flashing neon signs. But Music City - a haven for aspiring musicians and magnet for country lovers - has a dark side!! A deep history of serial killings! Now in the new book - MONSTER CITY: Murder, Music, and Mayhem in Nashville’s Dark Age - bestselling true crime author MICHAEL ARNTFIELD – describes the never-before-told true account of the serial killers who terrorized Nashville’s music scene for decades—and the cold-case Murder Squad determined to bring an end to their sadistic sprees. You might recognize Michael Arntfield - he is also the host and producer of a true-crime series airing on both the Oxygen Network and the Oprah Winfrey Network. MONSTER CITY: Murder, Music, and Mayhem in Nashville’s Dark Age (Little A; 9/04/18) is darkly nostalgic and hardboiled, exposing a city’s cultural history and a landmark work in popular criminology. It is a suspenseful and disturbing part-true crime, part-human interest story that will lead the reader through the “Fast Food Murders” and “Vandyland Murders,” permanently altering their view of Nashville. Enter Pat Postiglione: a displaced New Yorker and Vietnam vet who suddenly finds himself a home in the heart of Dixie just as Nashville is riding the wave of "New Country" and when serial killers are arriving in instantaneous succession – a deadly orchestra slicing its way to center stage at the Grand Old Opry. As Pat soon becomes one of Nashville’s best cold-case detectives, he secretly forms an elite team to end Nashville’s serial-killing spree, better known as the Murder Squad. With his savvy crew and unwavering dedication to solving each bloody and horrific crime, Pat eventually goes on to solve more cold cases and arrest more serial killers than any cop currently living. From Vanderbilt University to dive bars and out-of-the-way motels, Postiglione followed the bloody tracks of these ever-escalating crimes—each enacted by a different psychopath with the same intent: to murder without motive or remorse. But of all the investigations, of all the monsters Postiglione chased, few were as chilling, or as game changing, as the Rest Stop Killer: a homicidal trucker who turned the interstates into hi
It seems that every generation has its own style of music. Someone who grew up in the 1940s probably enjoys the sounds of the “big band” era. Then, in the late 40s and early 50s, the plaintive sounds of country music filled the airwaves as tales of heartache and hard times were set to music. From the classics to the singing celebrities of the “Grand Old Opry” to the age of electronica today, music certainly seems to “tug at the strings” of the human heart. Our main guest this week is guest is Amy Burkert, of gopetfriendly.com, which is – hands down – the best resource I've found for RVers who travel with their pets. And according to our survey – 67% of all RVers do just that. But also this week, Jennifer also has a special invitation for you to join us May 13-15 for a spontaneous trip to Nashville and the Grand Old Opry! One of the reasons I like GoPetFriendly so much is because Amy and her Husband Rod are fulltime RVers themselves, traveling North America in a Class A with dogs Buster and Ty and documenting thousands of places friendly to pets. Their site is an encyclopedia of travel advice for RVers looking for pet friendly places. Also this week, lots of great questions from our listeners, RV news, traveling tech tips and a great off the beaten path report. Plus Jennifer's special invite, of course! [spp-player] Complete shownotes for Episode 85 of the Roadtreking RV Podcast: JENNIFER'S TIP OF THE WEEK – Meet us in Nashville My tip of the week this week is really an invitation…. And a response to readers and listeners who say they want to meet us on the road. Well, here's your chance… though admittedly this is a bit spontaneous and short notice. Mike and I will be heading down I65 in a couple weeks and we thought, wouldn't it be fun to stop and spend a night at the Grand Old Opry. Then we got to wondering about finding a campground near there and then... would other Roadtrekers care to join us? So… consider this your invitation! We're looking at Saturday May 14 for the Opry. We've already reserved our seats for the 7PM show. We're staying at The Nashville KOA on Music Center Drive, which is near the Opry. Mike and I will come in Friday afternoon, May 13th and leave Sunday the 15th. If you'll be joining us, there's a post about this on our Facebook Group… let us know there. You need to make your own reservations for the Opry and for the campground. But we'd love to meet you…. Or should I say “y'all!” We'll put a link to all this on the shownotes page for this episode at roadtreking-dot-com-forward slash-85. Alas, we won't have our dog, Bo, with us on this trip, It will just be Mike and me. The tip of the week is brought to you by Good Sam, the world's most popular RV organization, now celebrating its 50th year. LISTENER QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK: Ed asks the best way to sell his RV, wondering about Craigs List. He also asks about the best way to accept payment for it. I am NOT a fan of CraigsList. There are way too many reports of fraud, robberies, even murders linked to the site. I recommend RV Trader as a great place to buy or sell a used RV. To sell a Roadtrek, I recommend listing it on Roadtrek International, a chapter of Family Motor Coach Association for Roadtrek owners. Roadtrek International lists a lot of Roadtreks for sale at http://www.roadtrekchapter.org/roadtreks-for-sale. I recommend being paid by a cashier's check. A cashier's check is a draft guaranteed by a bank, drawn from the bank's own funds and signed by a cashier or teller. It's used in place of cash, personal checks, credit cards or money orders. Ben asks about finding backgrounds for mountain biking and off grid camping National Geographic rated the 10 best Mountain Bike areas in the country and two were in Southwest Colorado: As to where to stay… Black Canyon of the Gunnison and Mesa Verde National Parks are two places I can suggest. Great campgrounds, can ride right out of the campsite. The two mountain bike areas in SW Colorado, I suggest: Crested Butte and Durango, Colorado And a listener notes how a recent post on the blog about solar panels helped her understand how they work Sponsoring this part of the podcast is Van City RV in St. Louis, and their Partner Dealerships Creston RV in Kalispell, Montana, and Wagon Trail RV in Las Vegas. Bringing You the largest Inventory of class B's from three locations. RV NEWS OF THE WEEK:
The song this week is a track I put together for a Cheshire Cats album back in the day….”Route 66” …which unfortunately I didn’t write but I came across it in a drawer….it is performed by a band we put together for our weekly jam sessions….it was a three piece me on guit…my lad Steve on bass and vocals…and a young fellow called Andy Thory on drums…Steve plays a mean bass …he was a good player and was great to work with…even though he’s the fruit of my loins…..he had his own band called The Black Knights….we sold the album for charity and was very popular at the time….happy days. 2.Last Wednesday was “Back To The Future Day” because in the film trilogy they travel to 21st October 2015…..I remember thinking at the time that on that day I will have been married 43 years…and here we are. The films were absolutely brilliant and dare I say it…ahead of their time….I have the box set and watch it all from time to time … it really is a classic….and it is very interesting how accurate some of the predictions were….great stuff. 3.We have yet to hear of the plight of the chap in Saudi Arabia who was jailed for making beer…he was due to receive 200 lashes last I heard….I know that the laws of countries have to be obeyed but this is going a bit over the top….these places seem to be living in the dark ages….also there was a girl on “The Apprentice” who said she was a sort of pole dancer in Saudi….now they want her deported….it is ridiculous….but they have the oil !!!....what we need to do is find our own sources of energy and backheel the lot of them. 4.There has been a lot of coverage on the news about the bobby who got hit by a stolen van….and sadly died….this happened just down the road from where I live. The driver and his accomplice had burgled an estate agent and the police were giving chase…the bobby threw a tyre stinger on to the road and the van swerved and hit him…needless to say the local community were devastated…he was only a young chap with a family…..the burglars have been caught and are awaiting trial….I have said it for years that there isn’t enough deterrent…they should get life sentences….but they wont. 5.Last week we mentioned the sad passing of Kenny Johnson of The Hillsiders country band….Billy Butler did a fabulous tribute to him on his programme….he played an interview he had done with Kenny and played short exerpts from his many recordings….what a great singer he was….and he has played on the Grand Old Opry in the states along with many big names….I feel Kenny was a true legend who sort of slipped under the radar. And Tom Jones has been on talking about his book….I bet that’s a good read….AND he is still with his wife who he married at 16…..Rock on Tommy !!!... ….and finally the nanny state strikes again….there is a suggestion that a tax should be put on sugar…because we are all obese….Jamie Oliver being one of the leading lights…the fact that it is assumed that people need help to not eat sugar is pathetic….I’m not quite sure who these consumer protectors think they are.

Movie Addict HQ puts Justin Timberlake in the spotlight during this fun episode featuring Mad Movie Man A.J. Hakari, producer Nikki Starr and host Betty Jo Tucker, who rant and rave about Timberlake’s accomplishments in music and on film. This week Sue Lawley's castaway is the country rock singer Emmylou Harris. Born in Alabama in 1947, her musical influences were folk rather than country. Initially, she wanted to be an actress, but, influenced by Joan Baez and Bob Dylan, she turned to singing folk instead and began performing in the bars of Greenwich Village. But, by the age of 24, it seemed as if her singing career was over - she was a single mother and had returned home to live with her mother, only singing in local bars. It was a chance encounter that led to her being heard by Gram Parsons - formerly of The Byrds and later The Flying Burrito Brothers. They worked together on two albums and invented what has become country rock - a fusion of folk, country and rock music. To date she has won 11 Grammies and in 1992 was inducted into the Grand Old Opry. She now writes her own music. She is three-times divorced and now travels everywhere with her mother.[Taken from the original programme material for this archive edition of Desert Island Discs]Favourite track: Talk To Me Of Mend by Kate and Anna McGarrigle Book: Blank book Luxury: A library
