fWotD Episode 2774: You Belong with Me Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Sunday, 8 December 2024 is You Belong with Me."You Belong with Me" is a song by the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and the third single from her second studio album Fearless (2008). Big Machine Records released the song to radio on April 20, 2009. Swift was inspired to write "You Belong with Me" after overhearing a telephone call between a touring band member and his girlfriend; she and Liz Rose wrote the lyrics, which discuss an unrequited love. Swift and Nathan Chapman produced the track, which has a banjo-led country pop production and incorporates fiddle, mandolin, and rock-influenced bass and electric guitars. Although the single was promoted on country radio, some critics categorized it into 1980s pop subgenres such as pop rock and power pop.Early reviews of the song generally praised its radio-friendly production and the emotional engagement of the lyrics, although a few deemed the songwriting formulaic. Some feminist critics took issue with the lyrics as slut-shaming but retrospective opinions have considered "You Belong with Me" one of Swift's signature songs. At the 2010 Grammy Awards, the song was nominated in three categories, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year. The single reached the top 10 on several charts and received certifications in Australia, Canada, Japan, and New Zealand. In the United States, it peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, and was the first country song to reach number one on both the Hot Country Songs chart and the all-genre Radio Songs chart. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the single seven-times platinum. Roman White directed the song's music video, which stars Swift as both the antagonist—an unsympathetic, popular brunette cheerleader—and the protagonist—a sympathetic, blonde girl next door who yearns for the antagonist's boyfriend. The video premiered on CMT on May 4, 2009, and won Best Female Video at the MTV Video Music Awards; Swift's acceptance speech was interrupted by Kanye West, which caused a controversy widely covered by the press. Following a 2019 dispute about the ownership of Swift's back catalog, she re-recorded the song as "You Belong with Me (Taylor's Version)" for her album Fearless (Taylor's Version) (2021). As of 2024, "You Belong with Me" has been included in the set lists of five of Swift's six headlining tours. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:30 UTC on Sunday, 8 December 2024.For the full current version of the article, see You Belong with Me on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Russell.

fWotD Episode 2408: White Horse (Taylor Swift song) Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of the featured Wikipedia article every day.The featured article for Friday, 8 December 2023 is White Horse (Taylor Swift song)."White Horse" is a song by the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and the second single from her second studio album, Fearless (2008). Big Machine Records released the track to US country radio on December 8, 2008. Swift wrote "White Horse" with Liz Rose and produced it with Nathan Chapman. An understated country pop ballad, the song is driven by a finger-picked guitar and includes piano and cello accents. The lyrics incorporate fairy-tale imagery of princesses and white horses: a narrator is heartbroken on realizing that her boyfriend is not an ideal figure like she thought, and in the end she leaves her town with hopes of finding somebody more worthy.Music critics lauded "White Horse" for what they deemed a somber production and a portrayal of universal feelings arising from heartbreak, but some found the lyrics uncreative. At the 2010 Grammy Awards, the track won Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance. In the United States, the single peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number two on the Hot Country Songs chart, and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified it double platinum. The song also charted in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom; it received certifications in the first two countries.Trey Fanjoy directed the song's music video, which depicts Swift reliving memories with her ex-boyfriend and her discovery of his infidelity after having ended their relationship through a phone call. The video premiered on February 7, 2009, on CMT, and it became the first video to debut at number one on the network's countdown. Swift performed "White Horse" live at the 2008 American Music Awards, on her Fearless Tour (2009–2010), and on certain dates of her later tours. Following the 2019 dispute regarding the ownership of Swift's back catalog, she re-recorded the song as "White Horse (Taylor's Version)" for her 2021 re-recorded album Fearless (Taylor's Version). This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:01 UTC on Friday, 8 December 2023.For the full current version of the article, see White Horse (Taylor Swift song) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Stephen Neural.

The first single that Carly Pearce put out to radio as a solo artist was also her first #1 hit. That song, Every Little Thing, was written by this week's guest - the amazing and talented Emily Shackelton! In this episode, you'll hear how Emily grew up in a very small town in Minnesota surrounded by music. She was encouraged from a young age to pursue what she loves and quickly found out that it was songwriting. Emily tells us stories about how she doubted her career in Nashville many times but every time she did, she turned to her faith and the right doors were opened for her. After first moving to Nashville, Emily entered into a BMI songwriting competition and won! Emily also talks about the stories behind writing songs for ABC's hit television show “Nashville”, starting a professional relationship with Liz Rose, and writing many other songs for Carly Pearce. She has also written songs for Reba McEntire, Jennifer Nettles, Sara Evans, Jana Kramer, Cassadee Pope, Lauren Alaina, Mickey Guyton, David Cook, Seth Ennis and more. When I asked Emily what advice she would give her 8-year-old self, knowing what she knows now, she said “keep going and trust god”. So cool and so true. Emily has a lot of exciting things happening now with two brand new songs of her own released - “Beloved” and “Our God Sustains”. You gotta check those out – they're amazing. She also has many shows coming up and lots more cuts to keep an eye out for! Growing up outside Vancouver, British Columbia, Ajaye came by music honestly performing in her family band The Jardines. “Learning the ropes of the music business within the safety of my family was a great way to get started,” says Ajaye. “But you gotta step out on your own at some point, and my move to Nashville was the ultimate growing up experience, both musically and from a life experience standpoint.” In Nashville, Ajaye honed her songwriting craft and earned a name performing the Nashville club scene, including a performance residency at Blake Shelton's Ole Red, and as host/founder of "The NashUp" - a weekly writer's night at Alley Taps in historic Printers Alley. With a secure footing on both Canadian and American musical soil, Ajaye continues to write, record and collaborate with the best on both sides of the border. Her new single "Growing Up" - which Ajaye wrote with Alberta's Joni Delaurier - is a joint release with Reluctant Cowboy Records (founded by Troy Kokol & Joni Delaurier). “If I've learned anything this past year, it's that we're all doing the best we can. So I started connecting to what sounds and feels good to me,” admits Ajaye. ”Growing Up is an ode to my younger self. To the 20 something me who felt lost, was always chasing after the wrong kind of romance, and tried so hard to fit in to try to make everybody else happy.” Songs included in this episode: 1) "Growing Up" - performed by Ajaye Jardine 2) "When You're My Age" - performed by Lori McKenna featuring Hillary Lindsey and Liz Rose 3) "Glorious Disaster" performed by Ajaye

Alberta's ANNIKA recently released not 1 but 2 singles on the same day: "I Really Don't Want To" & "It Still Hurts". It's something she calls a 'twingle' - twin singles. She's taking a new musical direction since moving on from the CCMA-nominated country-pop duo Leaving Thomas. The duo accumulated over 6 million career streams and was nominated for multiple CCMA Awards and placed top 3 in SiriusXM's Top of The Country Competition. "I Really Don't Want To" is a heavy-hitting musical jam with a message of empowerment while at the same time, describing the intoxicating, sometimes impossible to understand feeling of falling in love. ‘It Still Hurts’ outlines the painful, often lengthy healing process required after a love goes wrong. "The single "I Really Don't Want To" has a message that hits home for me as someone that has a history of falling in love, completely unafraid and uninhibited every time even though I knew heartbreak was likely around the corner,” explains Annika. “After so many breakups, I got used to picking myself back up and carrying on without resentment or a jaded attitude towards love. The bluesy, soulful sound of the song is uplifting in nature, making it a great tune to jam out to on the piano and I loved that while recording, I could really let loose on the vocals." Annika is set to release her first full-length solo album in the coming months and is ready to showcase a more mature, introspective side, highlighting her talents as a musician, songwriter and specifically a piano player. To date, she's co-written over 100 songs with hit writers including Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Phil Barton, Brian White, Patricia Conroy and Liz Rose.

On Episode 134, I'm joined by singer-songwriter Cam, who released the exceptional, genre-transcending The Otherside this past Friday (Oct 30). Cam has long been one of my favorite artists due to her refreshing pop sensibilities, lyrical (and vocal) nuance, and the emotional weight that much of her songwriting catalog carries. The Otherside sees Cam further blossom as a storyteller, performer, and country pop star. Strong anthemic singles like the love-drunk synth swaying "Till There's Nothing Left," the bubbly feelgood "Classic," and soaring instant classic "Diane" reel even the most cavalier of listeners. They're dynamic earworms that highlight different strengths within the Cam toolbox. Still, the backbone of The Otherside is the collection of keen ballads ("Happier For You," "Forgetting You"), heartwarmers such as "Like A Movie", and the reassurances and redemption found in the likes of "Changes" and "Girl Like Me." During this interview, we talk about writing with the likes of Lori McKenna, Hillary Lindsey, Liz Rose, Sam Smith, and Tim Bergling (Avicii), creating mood boards, navigating Nashville and the music industry, the Michael Jordan documentary The Last Dance, and of course, the ins and outs of her wonderful new album, The Otherside. For years, whenever she performed a concert, Patty Smyth heard the same question from fans: “People would be like, ‘When are you gonna give us new music? When are you gonna give us new music?' I kept saying, “I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it… IT'S ABOUT TIME is Smyth doing it — for the first time in 28 years, not counting the 2015 holiday album COME ON DECEMBER. And on the eight-song set, produced in Nashville by Grammy Award-winner Dann Huff, the veteran songstress is doing it with the same passion, fire and provocative temperament that she's displayed since her ferocious arrival with the band Scandal in 1982, except now with the perspective and wisdom of three more decades of life and legacy she's attained during the interim. “I've been touring and playing shows with the same band for 12 years, just having a blast,” says Smyth, a Brooklyn native who now resides in Malibu and New York City with her husband, pro tennis legend John McEnroe. “I was always writing, but I didn't really think about, ‘Should I put out a record?' It's so difficult right now, so I didn't know whether I should do it or not. Then I finally went into the zone of writing these songs I felt were poignant and relevant for me, and I started to realize this is a real thing that's happening and just went with it.” Smyth's instincts, of course, have established a career that's made her something of a legend in her own right as one of the foremost singers, and not just female singers, in rock. With the band Scandal, Smyth filled radio during the early 80s with indelible hits such as “Goodbye To You,” “Love's Got a Line on You” and “The Warrior,” a Top 10 smash that also topped the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. She didn't miss a beat after the band's dissolution, either, following with a pair of well-received solo albums (NEVER ENOUGH and the Roy Bittan-produced PATTY SMYTH) and more hits, including “Never Enough” and “Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough,” a duet with Don Henley that vaulted Smyth to the top of the Adult Contemporary charts, and to No. 1 in Canada. Along the way Smyth was also asked to replace David Lee Roth in Van Halen (she was eight months pregnant so the time wasn't right) and made guest appearances on the Hooters' NERVOUS NIGHT album and a couple of Henley's platinum releases. Her “Look What Love Has done” for the film JUNIOR was nominated for Academy and Grammy Awards, and Smyth's “Wish I Were You” was a soundtrack theme song for the 1998 box office smash ARMAGEDDON. But it's no great secret, and maybe even a source of pride, that Smyth — who reunited with Scandal for a time during the 00s — has spent most of the past two decades below the proverbial radar. Family is the main reason, raising a brood of six mine, his and ours with McEnroe and giving those duties the same determined and passionate priority Smyth gave her music career. “I was literally drowning in kids!” she says with a laugh — noting that it was daughter Ruby who encouraged Smyth to be part of the VH1 BANDS REUNITED episode in 2004 that resurrected Scandal. “My life just got too big for me to get around it. I've lived it, and it was great. But I had to step back (from music); I just didn't think I would step back for as long as I did.” With the children all grown (youngest daughter Ava is 21), Smyth found herself using songwriting to take stock of where she finds herself in life now and what she's learned over those intervening years as a wife, a mother and a community member as well as an artist who hasn't entirely shed the chippy defiance of her youth. “Y'know, here we are. We still love music, we still like to have fun, but we're in our fifties — How the hell did that happen! It went really fast, y'know. And for me that's a little bit of a bittersweet thing. It's a privilege to get older and you're lucky to get older, but you do lose things.” Recording IT'S ABOUT TIME — which also includes covers of Bobby Gentry's “Ode to Billie Joe” and Tom Waits' “Downtown Train,” both staples in Smyth's live show — in Nashville was a treat, meanwhile. (She recorded “Downtown Train” before, in fact — on her debut solo album, two years after Waits' original version and two years before Rod Stewart's hit rendition.) She wrote songs with a variety of collaborators, including good pal Liz Rose, while she's known producer Huff since his days in the rock band Giant; He's since gone on to win Producer of the Year and Musician of the Year awards from the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music, helming hits for the likes of Shania Twain, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson and scores of others. “I knew him as a guitar player. When I found out he was a big producer I was like, ‘Do you want to work with me?'” Smyth recalls. They recorded primarily at legendary Blackbird Studios, with co-producer Ilya Toshinskly handling acoustic guitar and a crack band that included guitarist Derek Wells, keyboardist Charlie Judge, bassist Jimmie Lee Sloas and drummer Chris McHugh. “All I ever wanted to do was sing and perform, and when I discovered I could write I was so friggin' happy,” Smyth says. “I want to just keep getting better and more disciplined and keep moving forward. My No.1 priority, my kids, are all good and grown now, so the music can be it for me again, and I'm really enjoying that.”
A tractor cab might not seem like the ideal place for an aspiring artist to nurture her musical dreams, but it sure did the trick for Clare Dunn. Growing up in tiny Two Buttes, Colorado (population: 43), she spent days at a time helping plow and plant the family farm, sharpening her ears with uninterrupted music-listening in the driver’s seat, even as she strengthened her work ethic. “That’s where a lot of my creativity came from and where a lot of my vision was forged, was just having nothing else to do other than listen to music and dream all day long in the vast wide open of those plains,” she reflects. By the time the genial, grounded Great Plains native got the chance to record for MCA Nashville, she had fine-tuned her creative vision and was ready to do what it would take to make it a reality, which landed her in a truly unique position: she is the only female country artist in recent memory to have a hand in all of the writing, arranging and producing for her debut release, the Clare Dunn EP. “I remember feeling like, ‘I know that I’m asking my label to take this tremendous leap of faith on me. I will be in the studio day and night. I will go until it’s right,’” says the guitar-slinging singer and songwriter. “I feel so grateful that I’ve had a team around me that’s allowed me to do that and supported me every step of the way.” True to her word, Dunn spent virtually every waking moment holed up in The Cave at Nashville’s House of Blues studios, crafting her standout sound beneath the watchful eye of a Chuck Berry portrait with such A-list collaborators as Terry McBride, Jesse Frasure, and Ben West. And it definitely paid off. The hooks have irresistible pop-rock punch, the sentiments are shot through with heartland rock grit, the vocals show R&B-schooled rhythmic daring and the arrangements are both towering and dynamic. Every lick of guitar on there, from agile melodic figures to aggressive shredding, is hers. “I think there’s, like, one song where I didn’t play a mandolin part or something like that,” she says. “But other than that, every lead part is my playing—acoustic, electric, everything.” That goes for all of the vocal parts, too—except for a solitary Eric Paslay guest harmony. Dunn doesn’t sound quite like any other singer in any genre, but her sumptuous lower range and the attitude and lustiness she summons whenever it suits the song recalls such world-class pop performers as Pink or Annie Lennox. In her teens, Dunn geeked out over a VH1 “Behind the Music” documentary that showed Fleetwood Mac working out their meticulous vocal arrangements, and in the studio, she might devote as many as a dozen tracks to doubling the melody in a different octave or layering precision harmonies, which adds to the sheer size of her sound. Dunn began paying her dues back in southeast Colorado, where she grew up the second of two daughters born into a long line of farmers and ranchers. “We didn’t have any brothers,” she says. “We did basically everything that boys would normally do, driving 18-wheelers, combines, tractors. I was very grateful that my parents raised us with the mentality that we didn’t even think about it; it was just normal for us to do all that stuff. We were a small family operation, and it’s all hands on deck, all the time.” In her early years, Dunn soaked up her parents’ favorite classic rock and country records—lots of Bob Seger titles among them—and stocked up on Top 40 singles when the family made the trek to a store in a neighboring town that actually had a record bin. She also absorbed all manner of rhythmic pop and R&B during marathon dance classes, so devoted to her hip-hop dance team that she won a scholarship to study with Janet Jackson’s backup dancers in California. Says Dunn, “My mom wore out an engine in a Suburban hauling me back and forth to dance. I couldn’t go every day like the other kids, because I lived an hour away. So I would do makeup days, and spend all day from 10 in the morning to 10 o’clock at night just learning dances so that I could be in the recitals and competitions. Dance, for me, is such a form of expression. When I’m making music, I’m thinking about it from a dance perspective—beats and musicality and phrasing.” For all of her sonic smarts, the aspiring musician lived in a town with zero places to play live shows, and she had no clue how to pursue her dream after high school until she heard about the music business program at Nashville’s Belmont University. The private school was out of her family’s price range, but she didn’t let that stop her, raising a big chunk of her tuition by driving a silage truck. “Anytime that there wasn’t school going on,” she recalls, “I was on that truck. Spring break, summer break, fall break. If you could’ve grown silage in December, I would’ve been on it over Christmas break. Whenever I couldn’t be home to drive the truck, my family kept the wheels rolling. My mom, dad and sister all drove it for me when I couldn’t be there due to classes or internships.” It wasn’t until Dunn got to college that she learned how to play guitar. Unlike a lot of dorm room dabblers, she wasn’t content to just reach the point where she could accompany herself by strumming basic chords. “Whenever I’d try to talk to a guitar player and explain how I heard things, I could never explain it,” she says. “So I thought, ‘If I can’t explain it to them, I’d better see if I can learn how to do it myself, so I can get it the way that I hear it in my head.’ Lead guitar, for me, was where it was at. I had no interest in learning G, C, and D and stopping. I wanted to be able to sing on guitar.” After college, Dunn signed a deal that went sour and turned her attention to building a grassroots following through decidedly unglamorous touring. “I loaded up me and three guys in a four-door F-150 pickup and a trailer and we took off,” she laughs. “We put 100,000 miles on it in just a little over a year. We played bars—teeny, tiny bars—and honky-tonks and festivals. It was very bleak to start out with, pinching pennies, trying to magically make a dollar turn into three dollars, trying to keep morale up. Like, ‘I know we played for two people tonight, guys, but it’s fine. We’re gonna get beyond it!’ My family helped me then too. They believed in me so much that they were willing to sacrifice in order to help me build that following to get a record deal.” The audience quickly multiplied when SiriusXM’s The Highway channel put Dunn’s flirtatious number “Cowboy Side of You” in rotation, and the fans who came out to the shows found a vital, confident band leader stomping around, swapping fearsome solos and singing likes she meant it. Universal Music Group Nashville soon snatched her up, and she attracted in-demand co-writers like Paslay, West, Frasure, McBride, Tom Douglas, Liz Rose, Hillary Lindsey, Troy Verges, Chris Lindsey, Brett James, and Ryan Beaver, and hit the road with many of her musical heroes including Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan, and Seger, who hand-picked Dunn as direct support on his Ride Out Tour. Now, that her with-it, down-home vision is captured on record and her sensuous single “Tuxedo” is impacting the country radio, Dunn is in the position to bring her music back to the people and places that taught her what determination was in the first place. “I can confidently say I would not be in this chair had it not been for that work ethic my parents and community instilled in me,” says the forward-thinking, farm-bred artist. “It’s been a tough road getting here and it’s taken longer than I would’ve liked, but I’ve always felt confident in setting and pursuing my goals. That work ethic is what drove me to learn how to play, and to go back out and play another show for ten people. Where I’m from, that’s just what you do—you work.”

One of Nashville’s most beloved singer/songwriters, Grammy-winner Lori McKenna joins us from her home just outside Boston to talk about her brand-new album, The Balladeer, due out July 24. The first song from the project, “When You’re My Age,” featuring her frequent co-writers Hillary Lindsey and Liz Rose, is a love letter from parents to their kids as they grow up and move forward with their own lives. Grab your tissues for this one. We discuss the stories behind several of the songs on her album including a tribute to her sister, “Marie,” and “The Dream”, which was inspired by storyline from the hit NBC show This Is Us. We talk about Lori's approach to songwriting, her friendship with Hillary and Liz, and she shares with us where she goes to find inspiration when she feels stuck creatively. Lori’s songs “Girl Crush” (Little Big Town) and “Humble and Kind” (Tim McGraw) were decade-defining songs in country music, and she continues to pen new songs with Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood and Sara Bareilles. We also talk with Lori about her experience writing songs for Lady Gaga’s A Star Is Born, and what it was like holding Oprah’s hand while Faith Hill sang a gospel song on The Oprah Winfrey Show. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Colorado’s state trust lands have been held in an iron fist by some of the most anti-public access policies and regulations found anywhere in the Western states. The battle has been simmering for decades: Clearly, Coloradoans were demanding change. Since 2012, BHA’s Colorado chapter has been leading the battle for increased access … and Colorado Parks and Wildlife responded, announcing last summer the opening of 500,000 acres of state trust lands for fishing and hunting over the next three years. Hal travels to Denver for a deep dive into these issues and questions with BHA State Policy Director (and obsessive waterfowler) Tim Brass and Liz Rose, a hunter, scholar and researcher who has helped BHA uncover the paths that can lead us to a better future for all outdoors people across the nation.

Zack and Madeline dissect the year that skyrocketed Taylor Swift from a successful country artist, to a crossover pop star. 2008 was a formative year for TSwizzle creatively and personally - she continued her iconic work with Liz Rose, wrote much of Fearless by herself, and fell in and out of love with the famously intelligent Joe Jonas. This episode deep dives into the creative process behind Fearless and its astonishing commercial success, and follows some of the drama you may not have heard of - Emily Poe getting fired, anyone?

I was the last child and only girl born to the greatest parents, Dave and Joanne, and best older brothers, Jeff and Greg. I grew up on a hobby farm in the community of Dawson Creek, British Columbia. I began singing in church when I was 3, learned to play guitar when I was 12, and then began my curiosity with writing songs. I was obsessed with all things music and spent my entire childhood determined to be a star. However, in my senior year in high school, I received a scholarship to attend UNBC, which meant putting my move to Nashville on hold. I toughed out the 4 years of school to get my nursing degree, all while writing, touring, and making trips to Nashville. But when I got my degree in the mail showing I was an RN, I packed my bags. October 4, 2010, I loaded up my Honda Civic and headed south. I started knocking on doors, playing open mics and writers nights 7 nights a week. I wrote with anyone and everyone who would write with a green writer new to Music City. After a year and a half of persistence, one big door opened. Erv Woolsey (who manages my hero, George Strait), signed me as an artist/writer to his management/publishing company. After 2 years of honing my writing skills and getting my artist career on track, I was dropped and found myself knocking on doors once again. The office of legendary Hall of Fame songwriter, Harlan Howard, opened their doors and hearts to me. I played my entire catalog to the amazement of Harlan's widow, Melanie Howard, and she darn near signed me on the spot. In the year and a half that I have been a staff writer at Harlan Howard Songs, I have written over 200 songs with Music Row veterans like Craig Wiseman, Liz Rose, Paul Overstreet, and Stephony Smith, to name a few. In May 2016, in the midst of my long hunt to find the perfect producer to capture my quirky country style, Nashville's finest producer, Chuck Ainlay, came into my life. I invited him to come see me perform at the Bluebird Cafe and much to my surprise, he showed up. We had a meeting a few days later and decided this was exactly what we both needed and put the plan in motion. July came around and I found myself at the prestigious Sound Stage Studio on Music Row, recording my EP with the A-Team of studio musicians. Now here I am, starting a wild year, listening to my completed project. I am so proud of this EP and all the incredible people who contributed their time and talents to make it possible. I hope to be coming to your town and playing these songs for you live. I also hope to meet you, get a picture with you, and give you a hug, because it's people like you who make this all worthwhile. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. See you soon!
On November 3rd, 26-year-old Liz Rose became the youngest Canadian to climb all Seven Summits of the world after she scaled Mt. Kosciuszko in Australia. The young mountaineer began her quest only two and a half years ago by first climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, then Argentina's Aconcagua, Everest from the North Side in Tibet, Antarctica's Vinson, North America's Denali, and Russia's Elbrus all followed. Guest: Liz Rose - Canadian Mountaineer

We'll play two songs penned by Liz, “You Belong With Me” and “Swimming Alone.” After Liz, Dan will talk with Chris D. Estes, a multimillion-dollar earner with Zija International. Living from paycheck to paycheck, Chris realized he had full-time jobs and a part- time life. He took the advice of Abe Lincoln who said, “Good things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.” In a short time Chris went from a limited life to a life unlimited. Dan's final guest is Aaron Young, a lifelong entrepreneur, trusted advisor to CEOs and business owners and creator of The Unshackled Owner, a program for entrepreneurs looking to build a business and not just a glorified job. If you need to hear some inspiration, some humor, some great music and some great advice, listen in!
What we cover: On May 23rd 2016, Liz Rose became the 17th Canadian woman to climb Mount Everest, the 2nd youngest Canadian overall to summit, and she’s on track to becoming the youngest Canadian to climb all Seven Summits – which is to say she’ll aim to tackle the highest peak on each of the seven continents. She’s surprisingly humble, not at all arrogant, and just generally likeable and accessible, and very human. And at just 25 years old, she is already most-assuredly a titan. This is a conversation steeped entirely in greatness – ripe with metaphor – cause really, what’s more figuratively perfect for the rest of us to glom onto than the idea of finding our own Everest? It doesn’t have to be that each want to climb Everest – all that matters is that we each have our own Everest. Along the way, there will be the proverbial frozen oxygen mask – something Liz actually experienced on her climb -- for us all. But one step at a time, and before we know it, we’re on top of the world. Liz shares epic stories of what it takes to reach the top, and just how harrowing the way down really is. And she also lets us know what's coming up for her in the next six months. To paraphrase what the bear in the childhood song might have experienced: "She saw another mountain, she saw another mountain, she saw another mountain, was all that she could see..." PS Liz, I owe you one rescue puppy called Summit.
