Are you a writer?Do you think you might be?How do you know if you are one or not?All of these questions tend to crop up for us moms when we start dreaming bigger and bigger and bigger in life - and for some of us, they keep cropping up for years. Along with a few more like, Could I find work as a writer? How do I know if I'm good enough? How do creativity and writing work when I'm such a busy parent? What if I've failed in the past or put out something that was humiliating?Could I ever find the time and the courage to write? So that's exactly what this week's podcast is all about. In this episode of the podcast, I'm interviewing writer and author Nicole Gulotta about the writer's journey, how any mom can find the time and courage it takes to write, and how it might just be YOUR next big adventure. Until a few years ago, come January I would write a list of goals and good intentions. I felt productive, optimist, effective. Within a few months, though, that list would mark the measure of my failures. Now I choose a word that will represent the year I have in front of me, a word that will guide me, help me to make decisions and choose a path to follow. It is much more effective, and kind, to choose a word rather than listing down goals. This year I chose intentionality as my 2020 word.Which is your 2020 word? We then dive into the conversation of seasonal creative living, which is essentially just a way of observing and navigating our creativity as humans. It's a way of extending grace to ourselves for the things we're experiencing...it’s a way to see and acknowledge the varying seasons we go through in our creativity. To be thankful for the past and excited for the future, but to be fully present in the season that is now. So in this interview Nicole shares all about each of the different seasons, as well as some very practical rituals and routines to practice in each season. So I do hope you all enjoy! Hello and welcome back to Chasing Creative for Season 6! We’re excited to be back with you, and still cannot believe that we’ve been doing this together for six seasons now. This season, we’re going to be interviewing some previous guests and some new guests, but asking them all similar questions: what do the ebbs and flows of the creative process look like for them? This season will include interviews with Nicole Gulotta in September, Elise Cripe in October, and many, many more. In this first episode of the season, Ashley and Abbie catch up on what they’ve both been doing since their creative retreat in June, share how they manage ebbs and flows in their own creative lives, and gab about the best books they’ve read this summer. This podcast is the one Abbie shared which talked about your menstrual cycle affecting your creativity. Nicole Gulotta is a writer based in Los Angeles. There’s a myth that creative types, writers especially, are solitary creatures with vast amounts of time available to devote to their calling. Most of us need to juggle family and career and life on top of our creative work. Nicole understands this better than most - she writes and promotes her books while raising her young son. And she shares her wisdom about making time for writing by teaching how to ‘write in the margins’—in other words, how to make the time for creative work in the small spaces we have in our day. In this episode, Sarah finds out how Nicole makes space for her writing during this season in her life. While we are usually bemoaning our lack of time to sort out all of our creative projects, every once in a while we get stuck in a place where we’ve got time or desire to do something creative, but find ourselves with an utter lack of inspiration. When that happens, we both have some tried-and-true places we turn to that give us that little nudge we need to get back to making, and we thought we’d share them in today’s episode.
