Pop Art Painter Jamie Roxx (www.JamieRoxx.us) welcomes Michelle Ehlen, Dir, Wri, Act; (Maybe Someday, Film | LGBTQ+, Com, Dra) to the Show! (Click to go there) ● FB: @maybesomedayfilm ● TW: @MaybeSomedayJay ● IG: @maybesomedayfilm Watch here: https://linktr.ee/maybesomedayfilm An LGBTQ feature film highlighting different aspects of love and heartbreak, Maybe Someday is a nostalgic and moving journey written and directed by Michelle Ehlen. The film is Ehlen's fifth feature and first dramedy, her prior films most notably being the first lesbian comedy trilogy - Butch Jamie, Heterosexual Jill, and S&M Sally. Maybe Someday stars Ehlen along with Shaela Cook from Heterosexual Jill and S&M Sally, and Charlie Steers. The story follows the character of Jay (Ehlen), a non-binary photographer in her 40s, battling a mixture of denial and depression as she attempts to move across the country in the midst of separating from her wife (Jeneen Robinson). Along the way, she takes a detour to stay with her high school best friend (Cook) who Jay used to be secretly in love with before she came out as a lesbian, and befriends a charismatic but complicated gay man (Steers) who has long given up on love. Struggling to move forward with the next chapter of her life, memories of the past resurface as Jay grapples with the inevitable cycles of love, loss, and letting go.

Here's the story: My grandmother called me in mid-January 2023 saying she needed to place an order. I thought she wanted something from Amazon. She told me very time she wears her Jean Marie Shawl to dinner at her residence she gets tons of compliments. All of her friends love it. Its the right size and it just stays in place perfectly. I published this pattern in 2018 to suit the request that she have a slightly bigger shawl that would stay in place. Half hexagon shape is perfect for this. It is knit in 3 sections, originally done in sport/dk natural yarns from Ross Farm in browns/tans. For this one, she wants white/black to wear with different outfits. In this week's episode, we're giving our Discord channel (seriously, join us over there! https://discord.com/invite/DutFjx3cBD) what they wanted, and they wanted the 2017 Scottish zombie musical "Anna and the Apocalypse." Special topics for your consideration include: a lot of British television talk, Santa Claus: hot or not?, taking the time to talk about your feelings during an actual apocalypse, offensive things that we said about Blink 182 and also Jesus but we left them in the episode just for you, and what life would be like if the people around you just sometimes broke out into song? Yikes. Into horror movies with some musical numbers? We've done two others: Episode 13- "The Phantom of the Paradise and Episode 389- "Repo! The Genetic Opera." And, not a musical, but please watch "The Alien Factor" (Episode 183) if only for the finest musical performance we've ever seen in a horror movie with the Baltimore-based band Atlantis playing a real banger, "Maybe Someday." Burnout is nothing to joke about. It's real and it is vicious. Blogger burnout has derailed many potential entrepreneurs and we don't want that to happen to you. The good news is that you can avoid this all-too-common phenomenon with a little planning, and a lot of self-monitoring. Here are 4 tips to maintain a healthy schedule and avoid burnout: Start as You Intend to Continue We all know that when you first start a new venture you want to throw your whole self into it. This is normal, and honestly, it's part of the fun of starting something new. When starting a long-term project like a blog, though, it's important to set boundaries for yourself from the beginning so that your blog doesn't end up taking over your life. I'm not going to tell you to limit yourself from working on your blog when you're super excited about it - that would be silly and counterproductive. What I am saying is that you need to remember that one of the best things about having a business like a blog is the freedom it creates in your life. Yet we teachers (little go-getters that we are) tend to approach blogging like we approach teaching… we're all in, 110%, all day, all night… when we're not giving 110% to teaching. That is a recipe for burnout. Instead, think about the things you had in mind when you started blogging. If you want to be able to enjoy a work-free movie night with your family every Friday night, give yourself a rule that there's no blog work on Fridays after dinner. If you want to be able to work from anywhere so you can travel with your son's soccer team, then grab a laptop and make use of the time he's at practice (and then put it away afterward so you can hear about the gnarly goal he made). The fact is that nobody starts a business - even a blog - so they can be tied to their computer 24/7. So if that's not your goal, then don't start that way. It will feel like there's sooooo much to do, but honestly, I think that's just life in the 21st century. Start building your blog how you want it to look in the long run. Eliminate, Automate, Delegate If you read blogging advice online, you're going to find a lot of advice on things you “must” do in order to be successful. For full-time bloggers, maybe these things are possible, but as a side hustler, you have to be more discerning with what you take on. I know I'm taking on too much when I start to feel unsure of what to do next. If I'm feeling stuck and procrastinating doing anything, it's usually because I'm trying to do too much. The first thing to do in this situation is to look at your list and take at least one thing off of it. Usually it's something I read about someone else doing and decided that I had to take on, too. (No, that urge doesn't go away as you get further into your journey.) Shift these things over to a Maybe Someday list, or just cross it out and move on. The next thing to do is look for things that you can automate, like emails, social media responses, tagging and segmenting subscribers, your opt-in… automation is a huge time saver and it can keep you from going into burnout. Truth be told, automation also makes your business more appealing to your readers. We expect things to happen instantly, so when people sign up for your email list, they want the freebie you promised right away… not when you get around to it after school, homework, dinner, and soccer practice. The first task many bloggers automate is email delivery. It's inexpensive and easy to use - and it's a great investment because your email list is key in making money from your blog. I personally use and recommend ConvertKit. Another popular option is automating social media posts. I use RecurPost, but for beginners typically recommend CinchShare. The last thing to try when burnout is on the horizon is delegate tasks to someone else. Some things just need a personal touch, or just need to be dealt with as they happen, but that doesn't mean they need to be dealt with by you! If you notice that you can't get the meaningful items on your to-do list because you're spending all your time answering emails, managing your Facebook group, or doing other non-zone-of-genius stuff, it may be time to delegate to a virtual assistant. But, don't forget that you don't just have to eliminate, automate, and delegate business tasks. You can free up time and energy by applying this same principle at home. If you can't get to your blog work because you're too busy shopping, cooking dinner, and cleaning your house, get your groceries delivered, put Hello Fresh on auto delivery, or hire someone to do the cleaning. Bonus: Hiring for your home is often cheaper than hiring a VA, Repurpose Your Content A mistake many bloggers make at the beginning (including yours truly) is creating new content instead of reusing what they've already got. You write a blog post, share it once, then move on and write something else… all while trying to think of something else to share on social media. It's exhausting, and can lead to not only business burnout, but also creative burnout. (That's when you're still passionate about your blog, but feel like you have nothing more to say.) Instead, get more mileage from your blog posts and what you've already created. When writing a post, craft a couple of different posts to use to share it, maybe grab a quote, and then share your post multiple times. A common misconception is that once you share a post, everyone has seen it. In fact, only about 1-3% of your followers will see what you share on social media. On top of that, many won't be able to stop and read what you've written at that exact moment. All that's to say, keep sharing your content! By finding ways to go deeper on your content, rather than coming up with new ideas to hit on surface level, you can engage your readers in new ways and promote content you've already created. An example would be doing a weekly Facebook or Instagram live to answer questions about your latest post. You can use a tool like StreamYard to go live in multiple places at once, then download your video to upload permanently to YouTube. Say No - A LOT In my first several years of teaching I worked all the time. Teaching was my whole life, from the time I woke up, to the time I went to bed. From what I've heard, most teachers are the same way. If they needed someone to be on a committee, I was your girl. Schedule adjustments needed? Sign me up to help! We're having a dance? Awesome! I'll chaperone! It's in our nature to do whatever's asked of us, but it's not necessary, and it's not healthy. The problem is that we feel like we need an excuse to say no, as if, “I'm tired and want to go home to want Netflix.” isn't a valid excuse (it is). If you're going to grow a blogging business, saying no is going to have to become part of your vocabulary, because here's the thing: Every time you say yes to something, you're saying no to something else. When you agree to be on that committee, you're taking time and mental bandwidth away from your blog, your classroom, and your family. A few years ago, I found myself a member of 2 district-level committees and serving as a scorer for reflection papers for new teachers… and quickly approaching burnout because I was doing all that and didn't say no to anything in my business either. So - by default - I ended up saying no to rest, family time, and sleep. I wrote to my assistant superintendent and told him I needed to step away from all of it, and refocused my energy. Open committee seat? Administrative something needs to be done? Dance on Friday until 10pm? I'm sorry, I'm busy. No explanation needed And guess what. The world hasn't stopped turning! Boundaries are important in every aspect of your life. It's not always easy to set them - or stick to them - but if you're going to avoid burnout, they're essential. Consider your priorities, create boundaries for yourself and your blog, and you will find it much easier to avoid hitting burnout. In Teacher Blog Academy, we teach you how to build a blog in a sustainable way, with just the basics, and without any of the excess to-dos that aren't necessary and just add stress to your life. The film is about the pain of adulting, overcoming depression, and how it's never too late to get the life you want. You'll laugh and cry and hopefully feel inspired after watching it. Check it out on Amazon and iTunes!

Matty Took is the frontman of Sydney based band PLANET. The guys released their second EP, ‘Maybe Someday', in April 2020, which heated up the airways with singles ‘Imaginary',‘ Never New' and ‘Reason Why'.I had the pleasure of meeting Matty face to face in June 2021, just a couple of weeks before we headed back into lockdown here in Sydney. We chat about some of Matty's favourite gigs, being part of Sydney's live scene, playing in bands with his brother Johnny, who many of you will know from the DMAs, and also what's next for Matty and PLANET.We also discuss why their unique sound has captured the attention of the U.K, which has been helped with support from “This Feeling" and Radio XFM.This episode is actually our last for series 1, it was always my intention to wrap up after 12 episodes, as I wanted the opportunity to reflect and take stock of all the incredible conversations to date. Don't worry, we will definitely be back for series 2, so would love to hear from you if there is anyone you would like me to interview next drop me a message on social media or via the website. A massive thank you to everyone who has helped book guests and also all of you lot for listening and supporting the show, it has been a huge passion project for me and it has been a true privilege to listen to, and share so many great live music stories. You can follow PLANET here:SpotifyInstagramFacebookHit follow/subscribe to be the first to know when new episodes are released and visit livelikeyouloveitpod.com for more information on the podcast.Enjoy
For this episode, we are talking about the new graphic anthology Dead Beats 2, released by A Wave Blue World, an independent publisher of high-quality graphic novels, anthologies, and art books, focusing on socially conscious storytelling and providing a platform for a multitude of creative voices. Joining me for this discussion is A Wave Blue World co-founders Wendy and Tyler Chin-Tanner, who started the company over 15 years ago. Dead Beats 2: London Calling, is a continuation after a successful campaign for the first volume which also received high acclaim for both its art direction and storytelling. For those unaware, Dead Beats is a full-color anthology of music-themed horror comics centered around the curiosities for sale at one peculiar record store managed by the enigmatic Shoppe Keeper. Think Tales From the Crypt, but in a record store. For London Calling, we travel to the new Dead Beats location across the pond in London. The original editors, Joe Corallo (Oh S#!t, It's Kim & Kim, Lost On Planet Earth) and Eric Palicki (All We Ever Wanted, Maybe Someday), are back for more Dead Beats featuring over twenty new comics stories and more than forty creators. Lisa Sterle (Long Lost, Witchblood) returns to provide the cover with our interstitial narrative illustrations by Val Halvorson (Finger Guns, The Sequels). During our discussion, Wendy and Tyler share how the idea of Dead Beats got started, the process of putting together an anthology, how they picked creators for the stories, along with the founding of A Wave Blue World, running this publishing company for over 15 years, how Wendy's training in sociology informs her work with A Wave Blue World, and their favorite types of music. Hobbies outside of everyday work, life, and parenting ebb and flow as your season of life changes, but it's fun to think about what creative pursuits you'll add back in as time opens up. In today's More Than Mom episode Meagan and Sarah speak from the perspective of moms whose kids are getting older, and who are pursuing hobbies in our own (often very different) ways. We talk about what hobbies we're enjoying now, which ones we could imagine trying, in theory, without needing a total life overhaul, and then some "maybe someday" hobbies we can see ourselves enjoying much later on. The post More Than Mom: Creative Hobbies (Now … Soonish … Maybe Someday) appeared first on The Mom Hour.

Sarah Dobson is the host of the Maybe Someday podcast, a show about what it's like to be on the fence about becoming a mother. In this episode Sarah and I talk about what motivated her to start the Maybe Someday Podcast, figuring out how much of the reason to become a parent is social conditioning and how much is actual desire, and her journey from being on the fence until she decided to fully embrace the childfree lifestyle. Maybe Someday Podcast has been on a hiatus for a few months but you can still catch the episodes that aired since the beginning by visiting the website: https://www.maybesomedaypodcast.com/ Or just google “Maybe Someday Podcast” and find it on Apple Podcasts and other platforms. This week Will and Zach are discussing Maybe Someday from A Wave Blue World! It's a sci-fi anthology they both backed on Kickstarter with an amazing array of creators working on a total of 27 stories! Due to some concerns that the episode would be too long if they discussed every story they've selected a top ten to go at instead...spoiler the episode is still probably too long. Ep. 29 When Steph's dream of being a teacher didn't go as planned, she decided to breath life into her “maybe someday” dream instead. Within months she opened her dance school and for 10 years has been holding space for hundreds of children of all ages to release their stress and build confidence through dance. Dance has offered Steph the chance to explore her passion for teaching combined with what she knows about art and movement. Every day in the studio she commits herself 100% to empowering her students to make mistakes and embrace the confidence that comes with failing forward. “Teaching dance doesn't ever feel like work…when I step into the studio I feel alive!" Her passion and commitment to her community drives her through the messiness and mistakes that come with building a business. And what we, her dance families, get to witness is how her passion and willingness to make mistakes influences and empowers our children to do the same. Great community leaders are simply people willing to show up unapologetically as their true awesome selves; they are like a brilliant light that we gravitate towards. And because of their spark we get to live brighter lives! Embrace your spark my friend and enjoy the ripple effect of authentic connection, JOY + LOVE! Time for another great doubleheader this week in Episode 437! It all starts with a great conversation with Rich Davis from the gripping new horror title, The Cult of Dracula from Second Sight Publishing. The book is described this way: “The story re-imagines the classic Dracula myth within the confines of a Manson Family inspired cult. It’s witchy. It’s wyrd. It’s Helter Skelter within a hippie cult dedicated to an ancient blood goddess. You may know Bram Stoker’s genre defining classic by heart, but you have no idea where Cult of Dracula will take you! It explores vampire the mythologies of many different cultures from all around the world and throughout human history. The book is as much about pagan cults, the occult, and pagan culture as it is about vampires.” We discuss the series, how you can access it, and what we can expect in the months ahead! Then everything wraps up with the return of Tyler Chin-Tanner from A Wave Blue World! He has a Kickstarter happening right now to support Maybe Someday, a positive new anthology, so we talk about how this collection was created, who some of the talented people behind the stories are, and what Tyler has coming! Here’s how Maybe Someday is described: “MAYBE SOMEDAY: STORIES OF PROMISE, VISIONS OF HOPE is a full-color anthology featuring over 25 inspiring stories about a brighter future. It is also the sequel to the New York Times-featured and Ringo Award Nominated anthology, ALL WE EVER WANTED.” Be sure to support this terrific project after you listen to this episode!

A few days ago I managed to catch up with old time gigging pal oh mine and frontman of The Ordinary Boys, Sam Preston. The first in a series of musicians on the show this really is a great chat. I had no idea just how much Sam has packed into his life and just how much has happened in the last two years alone. From a horrific accicdent in Denmark to producing Liam Payne. He really opens up in a way I know you'll connect with. You'll love it, We talk everything from books to sweaty punk gigs and beyond. WWW.SOMEDAYSAREDIAMONDS.CO.UK
In this episode we discuss:1. Bad Ideas that will not die: Price controls and government price fixing... is price gouging a good thing?2. Maybe Someday we'll try a free market: What does it mean when Trump says "open the country back up?"3. Silver Linings: Positive outcomes of the COVID-19 Pandemic4. The fine line between caring and grandstanding: Bernie once again lets down his entire movement and they are no longer having it. Though it is not unheard of on Barney and Clyde for both of us to drop the occasional expletive, we play some clips on this episode that are very explicit with multiple F-bombs. We like to think of B&C as something you can listen to with your kids around but maybe not this one.
Restrictions have been imposed to slow the contagion. Some of us are fortunate enough to simply accept the new rules with only mild inconvenience-- or at least we have times during the day when we aren’t feeling afraid or angry or sorry for ourselves. In my work as a coach I help people with big responsibilities find time for their own pursuits. Now suddenly many of us have a LOT more time than we expected. What have you always wanted to learn or create or attempt? What’s on your Maybe Someday list?

In today’s episode, I’m joined by Kerry Graham. Kerry is an incredibly invested teacher and a great writer — and she is one of the first followers of this very podcast who wasn’t my best friend or my mom :) Kerry is also a writer, with work appearing in several publications including the Huffington Post and Thought Catalog, and a weekly collaborative newsletter she founded called In This Together. Today Kerry and I talk about why bravery is a discipline — and how she builds that muscle through practicing being brave every single day, with her students, in her writing, by taking care of her mental health, and more. We also talk about: How (and why) she became a teacher after swearing she’d never be one The ways that her high school students encourage and inspire her to be brave Why she decided to write and share publicly about her decision not to have kids How she’s started to shift away from letting other people’s opinions influence her In this conversation, Kerry helps to highlight that being brave doesn’t always look like the big, sweeping, life-changing-in-a-split-second actions we sometimes assume it does. Being brave also looks like choosing to own your decisions about your body and your life, taking care of your mental health, and sharing the things we feel the most shame about. Kerry and I share so much in common as writers and as humans, and I’m really grateful that we got to share in conversation about the really beautiful and brave ways that she shows up in the world. In today’s conversation with Kerry, I hope you got to see the seemingly small (but actually very big) ways you can practice being brave in your own life starting right now. — Follow Kerry: Facebook Instagram Twitter In This Together Newsletter Other Notable Links: Kerry’s Decision to Remain Child-Free Essay Kerry’s People-Pleasing Essay Kerry’s Anxiety Essay Kerry’s Interview on Maybe Someday CREDITS Editing & Sound Engineering: Jordan Johansen Music: “Kenton” by Dr Crosby (Licensed via Marmoset)

A couple of months ago I went back and listened to the very first episode of this podcast. I wanted to remind myself of what it felt like to be at that starting point 18 months ago, realizing that I’ll never be somebody’s mother. Honestly, I was surprised at how emotional it all was. So today, join me for a final reflection that brings season 2 to a close. And if you’ve been a part of Maybe Someday’s story, thank you. Support the show! Meng Wang gave up her steady, comfortable dental practice in the city to work in the Australian outback. She travels long distances by road and air to visit remote communities in North Western Queensland, where she provides dental services to people in need. Meng has interned and volunteered as a dentist in 5 different countries, and she loves to travel off the beaten path. In 2018, after ten years of suffering, Meng was successfully treated for endometriosis. The procedure that would put an end to her pain meant that she wouldn’t be able to get pregnant in the future. So, she electively chose to be sterilised at the age of 29. The procedure drastically improved her quality of life , and she hasn’t looked back. But she had to fight to be able to get it done. Karen Anderson doesn’t remember a time that she ever wanted to have children. She just assumed she'd have them anyway. She thought she’d go to college, meet a guy, get married, and have kids. Cause that’s what you do, right? When she had an unwanted pregnancy in her senior year of college, she decided to have an abortion. Karen is now 56 and has been married for 21 years to a man who has three (now adult) children. When she met her now-husband and fell in love with him, it was such a relief for her to learn that he didn’t want more kids. Karen reached out to me by telling me than in the years since her abortion she has explored, deeply and on many levels, the hows and whys of who she is and why she didn't want to have children. Part of that exploration led her to healing her relationship with her "difficult" mother (and writing a book about it, for other women who have difficult relationships with their mothers). And it led her to explore and to write about the truth of her relationship with her husband's ex-wife (and the mother of his children) who died nearly five years ago (her essay was published in oprahmag.com in January). I wanted to talk to Karen about deciding not to have biological children, about being a stepmother, and about her work on difficult mother-daughter relationships (and other difficult relationships). ******* Become a patron of the podcast and join the Maybe Someday community: www.patreon.com/maybesomeday Follow Maybe Someday on Instagram: www.instagram.com/maybesomedayshow Learn more about Karen: https://www.kclanderson.com/ Full episode notes and details: www.maybesomedaypodcast.com/episodes/2019/healing-difficult-relationships
Bon Jon is a self-described queer feral cat. A few weeks ago, in a hot, cramped sound booth at the Vancouver Public Library, I sat down with Bon for a long conversation about gender, parenthood, and family. Bon identifies as genderqueer and goes by the pronouns they/their/theirs. I asked Bon to share some of their insights about gender and parenthood, family, and being childfree by choice—but as you’ll hear - Bon is a natural interviewer and they pretty much ended up interviewing me. What I loved so much about our conversation, beyond Bon’s gentle, insightful approach to queering parenthood, is that it was a great reflection on the first season of Maybe Someday and helps set the stage for our new season. You can find Bon over on Instagram (@bonnbury). They just released a new podcast called Gender Blender (#genderblenderpodcast) - look it up! It's amazing. www.maybesomedaypodcast.com/episodes/2019/queering-parenthood

Rose Wetzel is a 2-time American Ninja Warrior finalist, a professional obstacle course racer, a personal trainer, and a new mom (as if she wasn’t running around enough already). She has spent her whole life pursuing athletic endeavors including trying out for the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials (coming just seconds short of making it), and she has literally run hundreds of Spartan races and other brands of obstacle course racing in her career. She is so good that she actually makes a living as a professional racer, something very few are able to accomplish. Rose and I chat today not about what it’s like being a kick-ass elite-level obstacle course racer (even though she is indeed a badass), but instead she and I discuss what it takes for someone who wants to run their very first Spartan race. Beyond just the physical side of training (which we touch upon), we dive much deeper into the mindset you need to develop to get over the fears and apprehensions that so many people face when thinking about registering for an event they most likely aren’t capable of finishing...YET. We talk about how to set the right goals and create a “Diversified Portfolio of Motivations” so no matter how you perform at the race (or during any given day of training) you are set up for success instead of failure. And we talk about how to focus on small progressions every single day rather than much larger goals. If you’ve ever been on the fence and thought to yourself, “Man it sure would be cool to run something like a Spartan Race, but I’m not ready yet. Maybe SOMEDAY…” then this is the conversation to inspire you to get off the couch and onto the course! Guest Bio: Facebook|Twitter|Instagram Growing up in Seattle in a family of nine kids (could you imagine?!), Rose loved the feeling of running outside after tackling piles of dishes and laundry. Her love for running grew, and it landed her a track scholarship at Georgetown, where she met wonderful women she still calls her best friends, over a decade later. After college, Rose fulfilled a childhood dream of working at a summer camp before starting her own personal training business in order to encourage others to reach their health and fitness goals, while she tried to make the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials. After coming up a couple seconds short in the 800 meters (half mile), Rose took a friend’s advice and tried a totally new challenge – an obstacle course race! A perfect match for her running background, strength skills, and love of adventure, Rose became a professional obstacle course racer (thanks to sponsors like Clif Bar), running up mountains in Spartan Races around the country and flying through obstacles on the hit show American Ninja Warrior. A year and a half ago, Rose and Tim, her husband, welcomed Baby Taylor Joi into the world, and after moving from Seattle to Boulder for more mountains and Ninja gym training options a couple months later, Rose battled post-partum depression for many months, finally emerging from the condition mentally stronger than ever. Her physical fitness recently caught up as she started the Spartan season strong last month, finishing Top 3 at the first Spartan National Series race, just one minute behind the reigning Spartan World Champion. She looks to race hard all year and inspire the moms out there to continue to chase their dreams if they so desire, and remember to make self-care a priority, through her Stackit Mamas program for new moms. Tammy Cannon lives near Seattle, WA with her husband and three teens. In the early days, she was at home with her three children, who were all under the age of three. I wanted to talk to Tammy about the expectations she had for herself as she shifted from working at a job she loved to being at home with three young kids. She talks openly about the little corners of herself that feel like mothering might have gone differently for her in the beginning. Nicole Gulotta is a writer based in Los Angeles. There’s a myth that creative types, writers especially, are solitary creatures with vast amounts of time available to devote to their calling. Most of us need to juggle family and career and life on top of our creative work. Nicole understands this better than most - she writes and promotes her books while raising her young son. And she shares her wisdom about making time for writing by teaching how to ‘write in the margins’—in other words, how to make the time for creative work in the small spaces we have in our day. In this episode, Sarah finds out how Nicole makes space for her writing during this season in her life.
