HTTP://themarriagegift.comThis 8-part series will go through the teaching of Jesus on prayer in Matthew 6. Each episode of this 8 part series will discuss one or 2 verses from his teaching on prayer and pull out the lessons and principles that we can apply to our own prayer journey in our personal life and marriage.Episode 1 will focus on Matthew 6:5 "And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward."Here are some of the questions we attempt to answer in this episode. Why does Jesus teach us to pray?Am I being a hypocrite when I pray? What is motivating me to pray? What reward am I seeking when I pray? What is true prayer? And why should we pray for our marriage? “True prayer is neither a mere mental exercise nor a vocal performance. It is far deeper than that – it is a spiritual transaction with the Creator of Heaven and Earth.” -Charles Spurgeon
Lord's Prayer: Matthew 6:9-12
The ego longs to be seen and admired, and all those who fall under its narcissistic spell see the world as their stage. Abandoning their true selves for the sake of thunderous applause, they live their lives in performance. But, as with all performances, the script has an ending. The actors take their bows. The audience goes home. The stage falls silent, and the performers go back to the dressing rooms, remove their costumes, masks, and makeup, and go home as themselves. The Greek word for such a stage actor is hypokrites. In English, we transliterate that word as hypocrite, and we use it to refer to a person who acts as if he is one thing on the public stage, but lives as if he is another thing entirely in private. None of us wants to be known as a hypocrite. None of us wants to be seen as a narcissist. We just want to be seen. Noticed. Accepted. Loved. The problem is that we are afraid that people will not accept us for who we really are, and so we fashion costumes that hide our true selves in hopes that we will be seen as the performer's persona and receive the requisite rounds of applause that go with it. And the longer we play a role, regardless of how much recognition we receive, our true selves will continue to grow restless until we are seen and known for who we really are. Today, we will wrestle together with the natural tendencies to fall into narcissism and hypocrisy and discover the rewards of being true to ourselves. Matthew 6:9 "Our Father In Heaven" By Gayle Parker {ReConstructing} by TheSpringChurch
In Matthew 6:9 Jesus teaches us how to approach God as we pray.
The Purpose of Prayer is not to establish our will, but to release God's power and blessing, so His will is done on earth as in Heaven. This starts by our submission to His authority: "Thine be (1) the Kingdom (authority), (2) the Power (in the Holy Spirit), and (3) the Glory (the manifestation of the power in answered prayer)" (Matthew 6:13).

This starts by our submission to His authority: "Thine be (1) the Kingdom (authority), (2) the Power (in the Holy Spirit), and (3) the Glory (the manifestation of the power in answered prayer)" (Matthew 6:13).
When we come into God's Presence with praise and thanksgiving, we meet His authority, requiring us to bow (submit) our will to God, praying: “Your Kingdom come. Your will be done.” This positions us to receive His grace for ourselves, and to be a channel of His grace to others through our prayers (Romans 14:17).

Your will be done.” This positions us to receive His grace for ourselves, and to be a channel of His grace to others through our prayers (Romans 14:17).
Divine Protocol in Prayer means we don't start with our needs or sins, but we look to 'our Father in Heaven', and come into His Presence by 'hallowing His Name' with PRAISE (declaring His Greatness), and with THANKSGIVING (for His Goodness and Grace to us). Then we bow our hearts to Him in WORSHIP, submitting to His Government over our beings and our lives: "Your Kingdom come, Your will be done."

To fully hallow God's Name we must know His 8 Covenant Names through which He has revealed Himself: Jehovah (1) Jireh, the Lord our Provider, (2) Rophe (Healer), (3) Nissi (Victory), (4) Shalom (Peace), (5) Tsidkenu (Righteousness), (6) Mckeddish (Sanctifier), (7) Shammah (Glory), (8) Rohi (Shepherd).

As we hallow the Name of God we enter into the Secret Place of the Most High (Psalm 91:1-2), where our real prayer happens. One powerful prayer is the Sacrifice of Praise - thanking God before we see the answer, based on His Name (Hebr 13:15). This opens up a spiritual highway for God to move (Psalm 50:23), as seen in Jehoshaphat's victory (2Chronicles 20).

The Lord's Prayer provides a Pattern. So our prayer should start with us coming to God with praise & worship. Derek & Hilary share on HALLOWING His NAME, especially in connection with 3 NAMES of God: Elohim (Creator), Adonai (Lord and Master), and El Shaddai (the God who is more than enough).

Prayer starts by lifting up our eyes to Heaven, magnifying God, and looking to Him as our Source: “Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be your Name." This is how Jesus prayed. He taught us to: "watch and pray." Watching means setting our eyes on the Lord, so we can see His will and receive His grace.

The Sermon on the Mount (including the Lord's Prayer) is foundational for the Christian Life (Matt 7:24-27). So this Prayer gives His pattern for New Covenant Prayer. The start of: "Our Father in Heaven" signifies our fellowship with God in prayer is to flow from our Father-son relationship (based on Grace).

This is the introduction to a Series on the Principles of Prayer, using the Lord's Prayer as the inspired PATTERN for our prayer life (Matthew 6:9-13). Jesus described prayer as the intimate communication between children and their Father, in contrast to the external religious practice of hypocrites & heathen.

Holy Spirit, rain down, rain down Oh, Comforter and Friend How we need Your touch again Holy Spirit, rain down, rain down Let Your power fall Let Your voice be heard Come and change our hearts As we stand on Your word Holy Spirit, rain down No eye has seen, no ear has heard No mind can know what God has in store So open up Heaven, open it wide Over Your church and over our lives Good Morning FB. Being up this early is not me (Look at God). God has me up for a reason. It is praying time. Praying for strength, praying for continued courage and praying for him to keep my family in perfect peace. Do you know what reflection means to me? It means saying, "Thank You Lord for all you have done and will do". We can't waste time worrying about the past because it's gone. All we Our family has seen so much for 2014. I would like to say to my family. ONLY GOD can turn a MESS into a MESSAGE.. A TEST into a TESTIMONY.. A TRIAL into a TRIUMPH.. A VICTIM into a VICTORY!! HE makes no mistakes. God's will is not always our will. Believe, keep the faith and put all your trust in OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN. I love you all and continued blessings upon all of us.@??#RIPNEPHEWKYLANHOWARD??
