‘Content is king' has been our clarion call on many a podcast. What we often leave out is the equally important point of how you say something, as well as when you say it and where. As Corporate Affairs and Comms professionals we are often the director of the presentations our spokespeople give to key audiences. The ‘stage' could be a physical stage at a conference, or a virtual results presentation. It could be sitting in a TV or radio studio. Or even just a speech to employees at a town hall.  In many ways, Corporate Affairs practitioners need to be a Trevor Nunn, an Arlene Phillips and a Stephen Spielberg rolled into one with the occasional need to be a Tom Hanks as well. This episode is about the power of performance. How to make your content come alive, to stay memorable and even repeatable.  This is often where Comms professionals realise they need specialist advice. If only they could get access to someone who has been an actor, has been classically trained at somewhere prestigious like RADA, and has worked with CEOs and business leaders to extract the best of performances. Luckily at Little Questions we have just such an expert who is happy to give away some that valuable performance-related stardust on this episode. David Solomon is our guest for this podcast. He originally worked in the City, but left to train at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and spent the next ten years as a professional actor working at the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre.  This episode is hosted by Matt Young. We all perceive his captivating presence on screen, teetering between grace and awkwardness, the intentional and the spontaneous. Bill Nighy's humor embodies the essential qualities of British comedy while also showcasing remarkable versatility. Born in Caterham, United Kingdom in 1949, Bill Nighy always dreamt of becoming a writer. However, life had other plans for him. After giving up his ambitions of becoming a writer, his comedic genius has been celebrated worldwide, earning him an Oscar for Best Actor, a BAFTA Award for Best Actor, and a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama. He started his career on the stage of Liverpool's Everyman Theatre and made his London debut with the Royal National Theatre in the late 1970s. He then appeared on British television and radio, relishing the opportunity to play "anyone, because on the radio your appearance doesn't matter." His career reached a turning point in 2003 marked by his involvement in the film “Underworld” where he played the vampire Elder Viktor, and especially by the role that brought him international recognition: the jaded rocker Billy Mack in “Love Actually”. Almost two decades later, he proved equal skills in a role that resonated more closely with him: the character of Mr. Williams, a mundane bureaucrat in “The Living'”(2022), who discovers a new zest for life. This performance comes highly recommended. Convinced that his impressive career is the result of chance and lucky encounters, Bill Nighy is a modest workaholic, embodying the epitome of British self-deprecation. In this once-in-a-lifetime episode, we delve into: Tribalism and football clubs, How Bill procrastinated his entire writing career and inadvertently became an award-winning actor, How self-doubt fuels procrastination, The few times he escaped England to visit Paris and Marseille as a teenager, Theater-induced anxiety and not throwing up before stepping onto the stage, Mod fashion A unique conversation marked by Bill's elegance, quirkiness, subtlety, charm, and kindness. She is best known as the author of Her Naked Skin (2008), which was the first original play written by a living female playwright to be performed on the Olivier stage of the Royal National Theatre. The first version of the screenplay was written in English by Lenkiewicz and Pawlikowski, when it had the working title Sister of Mercy. Pawlikowski then translated the screenplay into Polish and revised it. Actor Rudi Dharmalingam showed a creative spark from a young age. From writing short stories and sketches with his two best friends while growing up, to attending the National Youth Theatre in the U.K. at the age of 16, Rudi excelled in his drama studies and had a fascination with performance. After graduating from the University of Salford, Rudi was ready to hit the ground running. He had his sights set on working as a professional actor in theater and had secured an agent during his first year at university. Today, Rudi shares the experience of being dropped by his agent after a terrifying accident on the way to his first audition and how he was able to push through the years of auditioning that followed. After booking an understudy role in the Royal National Theatre's London stage production of "The History Boys," Rudi began to see some momentum in his career. Since then, Rudi experienced a 15 year back-to-back run of theater productions including a West End run of "Mary Stuart," and a co-star role in "Hamlet" opposite Benedict Cumberbatch at the Barbican Theatre. After deciding that he was ready for a new adventure on the big screen, Rudi has now gracefully pivoted into the world of film and television with the premiere of Showtime's newest drama series, "Wakefield." Starring as psych ward nurse Nik Katira, this psychological drama explores the complexities of mental health when Nik himself begins to lose connection to his own reality. Rudi will also be returning in season 3 of "The Split," and can be seen in the upcoming 2022 release of the action-thriller series, "Extinction." Today, Rudi shares that what he loves most about acting is the intimacy. He dives into how that intimacy manifests itself differently in theater versus on screen, and he shares the ways in which he approaches character building from a place of instinct. Inspired by artistic legends such as Robert De Niro, Daniel Day-Lewis, and following the teaching principles of Stanislavski, Rudi encourages all actors to think of a self-tape as a short film and to go above and beyond the line of duty when it comes to an audition. These are the unforgettable stories that landed Rudi Dharmalingam right here. “All your nerve endings have to be alive to life .. you have to be prepared to plumb your own history and experiences that are often difficult. It's just what it takes. The gold is about very raw authentic feelings, that's the key to writing interestingly.. only then will the audience come on the ride with you.” Renowned playwright novelist and screenwriter Joanna Murray Smith is described as the foremost “Australian playwright” with half of all Australian plays performed overseas being written by her.Her plays including Honour, Rapture Bombshells, Nightfall Redemption, Love Child and Songs For Nobodies have been performed around the world in the US, the UK, Asia on Broadway the West End and at the Royal National Theatre in London.Yet her greatest fear is that she will disappoint.“I'm always terrified I will let down the actors, audiences or theatre company .. that's my nightmare”Many of her plays feature flawed, fiesty, fragile and ferocious women who cry, fly, fight even sing their way through life's challenges. Her play “Honour” was modelled on so many wise dignified women. She knew beautiful mothers and wives who were left by their husbands and found themselves alone at 60 .. it explores their strength and also how much they'd been complicit in their own invisibility. Her next play “Berlin” hopefully released soon at the MTC is her first play that explores Jewish themes. “It explores crazy infatuation of youth  and forbidden love."While researching she went to Auchwitz on her own to digest and process the horror of history and it was life changing. Always a pleasure to speak to this vivacious, articulate and engaging writer- So grab a tea, or a G & T and let's get intimate DebCREDITS:Executive Producer & host: Deborah Blashki-Marks (mindfilmandpublishing.com.au) Podcast Audio Producer:Sophie Jackson (Soundstreet.com.au) Artwork:Sam Moses (www.samanthamoses.com)Original music:Jonah OrbachVoice Recording:Matia Marks Design:Rachel Mcarthy (rachelmccarthy@live.com.au)

You might have heard her recent play Rockets And Blue Lights as part of BBC Radio 3's Lockdown Theatre, but did you know that it all started with a childhood slapstick double act prancing around in school? Nope, us neither. Definitely one of our most inspiring guests to date, we discuss in depth the nuances in conversation on black identity and British identity, and the obvious overlap therein, and of course Becky and Sarah catch up on their week's antics with an unsurprising focus on the outrageously extraordinary I May Destroy You. With contributions from RACHEL ATKINS, DAVID HOLT, CHRIS PAVLO and DAVID SARGENT. Especial thanks to NAXOS for its generous licensing of the CRUSH COLLISION MARCH by SCOTT JOPLIN. A WORD FROM STEPHEN In January of this year, I had a stroke and spent time at Northampton General Hospital and University Hospital Lewisham. While in hospital, I experienced first-hand the hard work and pressure facing NHS workers. When I was back home, a writer friend of mine came to visit me. He suggested I write an account of my time in hospital. This could have a therapeutic effect, he told me, and it has. I also wanted to give something back to our amazing NHS, all those people who come from every part of the globe, who work hard and care for us, when we can't care for ourselves. I have therefore recorded as honestly as I can the journey of a stroke victim, some of my meetings with staff and patients along the way, and the humour and humanity I found on the hospital wards. If you have enjoyed this podcast and would like to show your appreciation of the NHS, please visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/atthefirststroke, where I am raising money for NHS CHARITIES TOGETHER, and give whatever you feel you can afford. STEPHEN CRITCHLOW has been a professional actor for over 30 years and a member of the BBC Radio Drama Company no less than five times. Stage credits include Sir Peter Hall's HAMLET (Gielgud), Ray Cooney's PYGMALION (Albery), three years in THE THIRTY-NINE STEPS (Criterion), and CYRANO DE BERGERAC at the Royal National Theatre. His many TV and film credits include, DOWNTON ABBEY, MIRANDA, SKINS, CIDER WITH ROSIE, RED DWARF 11, HATTIE, FANTABULOZA, THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER, LITTLE LORD FAUNTLEROY and CHURCHILL: THE HOLLYWOOD YEARS. RACHEL ATKINS' recent theatre work includes, THE COUNTRY GIRLS (Minerva Chichester), INKHEART and ROMEO AND JULIET (Home Theatre Manchester). For television, she has appeared in CHERNOBYL, THE ROOK, HUMANS, and CALL THE MIDWIFE, and films include THE LAST LETTER FROM YOUR LOVER and THE COUNTRY GIRL. Rachel has been a member of the BBC Radio Drama Company several times and was a regular in THE ARCHERS. She has recorded numerous audiobooks as well as voice overs for video games. DAVID HOLT studied theatre arts in Birmingham in the late 1980s, then moved London to pursue a career as a versatile actor in TV, film, theatre, radio, and as a voice artist. He has appeared in countless productions of all types over a 30+ year career, and is renowned for his animation voice work, having appeared in over 90 animated TV series. CHRIS PAVLO has worked extensively in the voice world. He has enjoyed four seasons with the BBC Radio Drama Company, with credits ranging from THE ARCHERS to news-based comedy THE WAY IT IS. He can also be heard voicing video games, commercials, documentaries and podcasts. Chris co-founded and runs THE PODCAST COMPANY, a production house for podcasts. DAVID SARGENT has been an actor and voice-over artist for 32 years. He shares a drama school and voice agent with Stephen Critchlow. Patsy Rodenburg divides her time between London, New York and Silves in Portugal.  While London and New York is where she keeps busy, Silves is her place to retreat, write and recharge.  I met Patsy in her farmhouse in Silves - a perfect setting for a conversation about presence. Surrounded by citrus groves and vineyards, with an unobstructed view of the Silves Castle on one side and white storks of the Algarve busily flying to and fro above us, we eventually settled in her kitchen with a cup of tea.  Patsy was completely relaxed when I rearranged her furniture to minimise the echo of her newly renovated house, as if having people armed with huge mics and headphones was a daily occurrence on the farm.   It wasn’t until I looked at her fridge that she set her boundaries. “I’m not switching that off.” she said, smiling. I took a mental note: “This is how you can be warm and firm at the same time.”  Patsy and I sat opposite each other in the least “boomy” part of her house, crammed between her fridge and the kitchen window, when I asked my first question, the one i ask every CultureLab guest. “What were the early cultural influence that shaped you as a person?” Without any hesitation, Patsy replied, “Shakespeare”.  She discovered the great English poet and playwright as a 9-year old girl and her life was never the same since.  Since then, Patsy Rodenburg has become a world expert on teaching voice, speech and presentation skills, initially to actors, but more recently in high profile corporate spheres.  And it’s through her work with Shakespeare that she developed the concept of the Three Circles of Energy that we talk about during the interview.  We also talked about other really big topics - culture, leadership, fairness, service, redemption, love, and women’s voices.   Being in conversation with Patsy, in second circle, was a really powerful and intimate experience. She truly practices what she preaches and I hope that you enjoy this interview as much as I enjoyed spending time with her.  Episode highlights What Shakespeare can teach us about power, love and fairness - and how it can be applied in modern organisations The three circles of energy and why being in second is so important, particularly for leaders Why people lose their presence and live their lives disconnected (and what can be done about that) What enables creativity and high performance in organisations How leaders contribute to creating a healthy culture What great actors, singers and great leaders have in common Lessons Patsy learned while working in high security prisons The transformational practice of self-reflection and facing our own demons Why it’s not possible to think our way of certain situations - and what we should be doing instead Generosity and creating a healthy work environment  Maintaining presence when speaking in public Tips for women to get their voices heard    More about Patsy Rodenburg  Patsy originally trained as an actor but soon moved into voice coaching, fast becoming an associate of the Royal Court Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company, and eventually working as Head of Voice at the Royal National Theatre for 16 years. Her first book, The Right to Speak, was first published by Methuen in 1992 and was re-printed in 2015. Patsy then wrote The Need for Words (Methuen, 1993), The Actor Speaks (Methuen, 1997), and Speaking Shakespeare (Methuen, 2001), the last of which is viewed by the theatrical industry as a seminal work on the performance of Shakespeare. She has worked extensively with actors (including Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, Daniel Craig, and Natalie Portman), directors (Trevor Nunn, Richard Eyre, Franco Zeffirelli and Tim Burton) and playwrights (Arthur Miller, Harold Pinter, Samuel Beckett), earning her OBE in 2005 for services to drama. She has also coached extensively for high profile politicians and statesmen. Her extensive experience in examining human interaction on a theatrical level has given her vast insight into the qualities that are required for success in the corporate world, concepts which are best explored in her books, Presence (Penguin, 2007) and Power Presentation (Penguin, 2009). Patsy is based in London but has taught all over the world transforming people from all walks of life, helping them to overcome perceived obstacles by helping them to redefine their presence. She is currently Professor of Text and Poetry at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where she has been for 36 years and is on the board of directors with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Patsy also works extensively in the U.S.A from the Michael Howard Studios in New York. Emma Keith, producer of the National Theatre Live series of theatrical broadcasts, in conversation with Richard Wolinsky, talks about the latest broadcast, the National Theatre in London revival of Stephen Sondheim's 1971 musical, “Follies.” The producer of the series since 2016, she discusses what is required to put on this kind of international live broadcast, some of the technical issues involved, and how the National brings in a younger audience. The Royal National Theatre is the English equivalent of New York's Public Theatre, or perhaps Lincoln Center, supported to a great degree by the government's National Arts Council, and is in that sense a model of how government can support the arts. Founded in 1963 with Sir Laurence Olivier as its first director, the National now encompasses three theaters on its side near Waterloo Bridge in London. “Follies” airs on November 16, 2017 with encore presentations following. As part of the BBC's opera season, designer Hildegard Bechtler talks to Michael Berkeley about her favourite music and some of the twenty-seven operas she has worked on all over the world. Hildegard is one of our most prolific and successful theatre and opera designers. Born in Germany, she moved to Britain aged eighteen, and very quickly established herself first in film, then in theatre and opera. Her style combines wit and invention to deliver minimalist style with maximum impact. She has designed for every major theatre and opera company including the Royal Opera, ENO, Glyndebourne, and the Royal National Theatre. And the international nature of her work is typified by one of her most recent productions - Thomas Adès's new opera The Exterminating Angel - staged in Salzburg, Copenhagen, Covent Garden, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Hildegard chooses music from two operas she has worked on, The Ring Cycle and The Damnation of Faust; a Burns song which reminds her of her love of Scotland and her husband, the actor Bill Paterson; and a piece by her namesake, Hildegard of Bingen. Producer: Jane Greenwood A Loftus production for BBC Radio 3.

Booth One welcomes Mary Jo DuPrey, who recently visited Chicago from Los Angeles for some meetings about possible directing projects. Mary Jo trained as an actress at Vassar. She then worked with her sister Katie Agresta, a legendary vocal coach, managing her "rock & roll vocal studio" on the upper west side, where she also learned how to teach singing with Katie's amazingly effective approach and exercises. Check out this list of notable students! Mary Jo then moved to L.A. where she had a successful acting career. She also taught acting and singing in UCLA's musical theatre program, and tells us about how she came to be such a sought-after vocal coach for spoken and singing voices. She tells great stories about working with her clients, including how she got connected with Daveed Diggs through their mutual friend and collaborator, composer and sound designer Jonathan Snipes.  Mary Jo worked closely with Daveed while Hamilton was being developed. Read his description of working with her here. Don't miss her spellbinding story about being invited by Alex Lacamoire to Hamilton's  first music stand read! She made two bold predictions that day that came true. Mary Jo gives Gary a short voice lesson and offers to work with him via Skype! She is a master at her craft and approaches the voice in a totally holistic manner. Interested in scheduling some lessons? Contact her here. Mary Jo is the only certified West Coast teacher of the Katie Agresta Vocal Technique. She cites Patsy Rodenberg, Head of Voice for the Royal National Theatre as another major influence. Mary Jo recently got an MFA in Directing at UCLA and is loving directing there and at professional theaters in L.A., such as the beautiful outdoor repertory theater in Topanga Canyon, the Theatricum Botanicum. She directed our friend and recurring guest co-host Paul Stroili in August: Osage County and he thinks the world of her. We are looking forward to her first Chicago-based project and will let you know when that happens. Rob and Dave discuss Doctor 13, Jodie Whittaker. Featuring listener emails and a special audio from The Rev. As always, you can write to us: hello@theDWshow.net - Jodie Whittaker graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2005 with a gold medal in Acting. Since then she has worked continually in Film, Television and Theatre. Her TV credits include the critically acclaimed ITV drama Broadchurch (for which she was nominated for Best Actress for the RTS Television Awards), Emmy award-winning Black Mirror, Sky 1's The Smoke, BBC's Cranford, in which she starred opposite Judi Dench and Imelda Staunton, The Night Watch (BBC), The Accused (BBC), and Tess of the D'Urbervilles (BBC). Jodie has recently finished shooting Journeyman, written and directed by Paddy Considine, as is the lead in the new BBC drama series Trust Me. Her other film credits include Venus, (which earned her nominations for Best Newcomer at the British Independent Film Awards; Best British Newcomer at the Critics' Circle Awards and Best Actress In A Motion Picture at the Satellite Awards); Attack The Block, One Day, Black Sea, Good Vibrations, St.Trinian's, Get Santa and most recently Adult Life Skills, which she Executive Produced as well as starred in which received a number of BIFA nominations. Jodie made her professional theatrical debut at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in The Storm. Other theatre credits include playing the title role in Antigone at the Royal National Theatre, Bash at the Trafalgar Studios, Awake And Sing and Enemies at the Almeida, both directed by the then Artistic Director Michael Attenborough. - 1. What does it feel like to be the Thirteenth Doctor? It's very nerve-racking, as it's been so secret! 2. Why did you want the role? To be asked to play the ultimate character, to get to play pretend in the truest form: this is why I wanted to be an actor in the first place. To be able to play someone who is literally reinvented on screen, with all the freedoms that brings - what an unbelievable opportunity. And added to that, to be the first woman in that role. 3. Has it been hard to keep the secret? Yes. Very hard! I've told a lot of lies! I've embroiled myself in a whole world of lies which is going to come back at me when this is announced! 4. Who was the first person you told when you got the role? My husband. Because I was allowed to! 5. Did you have a codename and if so what was it? In my home, and with my agent, it was The Clooney. Because to me and my husband, George is an iconic guy. And we thought, what's a really famous iconic name? It was just fitting. 6. What does it feel like to be the first woman Doctor? It feels completely overwhelming; as a feminist, as a woman, as an actor, as a human, as someone who wants to continually push themselves and challenge themselves, and not be boxed in by what you're told you can and can't be. It feels incredible. 7. What do you want to tell the fans? I want to tell the fans not to be scared by my gender. Because this is a really exciting time, and Doctor Who represents everything that's exciting about change. The fans have lived through so many changes, and this is only a new, different one, not a fearful one. 8. What are you most excited about? I'm most excited about becoming part of a family I didn't even know existed. I was born in 1982 - it's been around longer than me, and it's a family I couldn't ever have dreamed I'd be part of. 9. How did Chris sell you the part? We had a strange chat earlier this year where he tricked me into thinking we were talking about Broadchurch. And I started to quiz him about his new job in Wales, and asked him if I could be a baddie! And he quickly diverted the conversation to suggest I should consider auditioning to be the 13th Clooney. It was the most incredible chat because I asked every question under the sun, and I said I'd take a few weeks to decide whether I was going to audition. He got a phone call within 24 hours. He would've got a phone call sooner, but my husband was away and there was a time difference! 10. Did he persuade you? No. There was no persuasion needed. If you need to be persuaded to do this part, you're not right for this part, and the part isn't right for you. I also think, for anyone taking this on, you have to want to fight for it, which I certainly had to do. I know there will have been some phenomenal actors who threw their hats in the ring. 11. What are you going to wear? I don't know yet. 12. Is that your costume in the filmed sequence which introduced you as the new Doctor? No. 13. Have any of the other Doctors given you advice? Well they can't because they haven't known until now, but I'm certainly expecting a couple of calls - I've got a couple of mates in there. I'm mates with a companion [Arthur Darvill], I'm mates with a trio of Doctors. I know Matt Smith, Chris Eccleston and obviously David Tennant. Oh! And let's throw in David Bradley! Four Doctors! So I'm hoping I get some calls of advice. - The BBC today announced to the world that Jodie Whittaker will be the new Doctor Who. The identity of the new Doctor was revealed exclusively on BBC One and on social media around the world after the Men's Wimbledon Final on Sunday 16 July. She will be the Thirteenth Time Lord and take over from Peter Capaldi, who leaves the global hit show at Christmas. New head writer and executive producer Chris Chibnall, who takes over from Steven Moffat on the next series, made the decision to cast the first ever woman in the iconic role. Jodie Whittaker says: “I'm beyond excited to begin this epic journey with Chris and with every Whovian on this planet. It's more than an honour to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope. I can't wait.” Chris Chibnall, New Head Writer and Executive Producer, says : “After months of lists, conversations, auditions, recalls, and a lot of secret-keeping, we're excited to welcome Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor. "I always knew I wanted the Thirteenth Doctor to be a woman and we're thrilled to have secured our number one choice. Her audition for The Doctor simply blew us all away. Jodie is an in-demand, funny, inspiring, super-smart force of nature and will bring loads of wit, strength and warmth to the role. The Thirteenth Doctor is on her way.” Peter Capaldi says: “Anyone who has seen Jodie Whittaker's work will know that she is a wonderful actress of great individuality and charm. She has above all the huge heart to play this most special part. She's going to be a fantastic Doctor.” Charlotte Moore, BBC Director of BBC Content, says: “Making history is what Doctor Who is all about and Chris Chibnall's bold new take on the next Time Lord is exactly that. The nation is going to fall in love with Jodie Whittaker - and have lots of fun too!” Piers Wenger, Controller BBC Drama, says : "Jodie is not just a talented actor but she has a bold and brilliant vision for her Doctor. She aced it in her audition both technically and with the powerful female life force she brings to the role. She is destined to be an utterly iconic Doctor." Matt Strevens, Executive Producer, says : "I'm so thrilled that Jodie Whittaker said yes to playing the Doctor. I've been a fan for years and always hoped to work with her. She is an actor of great emotional range and inhabits every role with complete passion and conviction. Just thinking about what she will bring to the Doctor makes me as excited as a kid at Christmas. It's going to be a lot of fun."

Susan Wokoma – British actress and writer Susan Wokoma is one of the most brilliant and interesting young actors working today. Having already established a diverse and award winning body of work in her short career. In January, Susan reprised the role of eccentric ‘Cynthia’ in the second series of BAFTA Award winning Chewing Gum for Channel 4. The first series of Chewing Gum, a British television sitcom series set in London, debuted on E4 in October 2015. Written by and starring Michaela Coel, Robert Lonsdale, Danielle Walters and Tanya Franks, the show centers on Beyoncé obsessed ‘Tracey Gordon’, a religious, 24-year-old shop assistant, who wants to and learn more about the world. In October last year, Susan starred in six-part comedic horror series Crazyhead, a new series from Misfits creator Howard Overman. The dark comedy, developed by Urban Myth Films for Channel 4 in association with Netflix, is a funny and gripping programme about friendship, love and facing your demons. It follows an unlikely duo of demon hunters – Susan played ‘Raquel’, opposite Cara Theobold, a self-made demon hunter with a whole lot of baggage and an impressive lack of social skills. The cast also includes Riann Steele, Lewis, Arinze Kene and Tony Curran, and Crazy Face was broadcast on E4 in the UK and was launched on Netflix globally in December. Also in October, Susan appeared as ‘Megan’, alongside a fantastic young British cast, including Laura Carmichael, Chloe Pirrie, Jack Farthing and Joe Dempsie, in the melancholic comedy Burn Burn Burn. The independent feature was director Chanya Button’s debut and follows two best friends as they travel across the U.K spreading the ashes of their recently deceased friend. The feature was nominated for the ‘Raindance’ Award at The British Independent Film Awards and was nominated in the category of ‘Best Film’ at the London Film Festival, both in 2015, and won awards from the LOCO Film Festival, Cinema City, Odessa International Film Festival and Umberside Cinema ahead of its UK theatrical release on 28th October. The feature was distributed globally by Netflix later in November. In April 2014, Susan made her film debut as ‘Amala’ and alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Anika Noni Rose and John Boyega, in Biyi Bandele’s adaptation of Half of a Yellow Sun. The feature, based on the novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichi, tells the tale of two sisters after they return to Nigeria right before outbreak of the 1960 Nigerian Civil War. In August 2014, Susan took on the role of ‘Della’ in The Inbetweeners 2, the box office friendly sequel of 2011 hit film, The Inbetweeners Movie. Set in Australia, the British comedy revisits the four main characters from the original as they travel to Australia for the ultimate lads’ holiday. The film became the highest grossing British film in the UK in 2014. In 2006, Susan made her feature film debut as ‘Marie’ in the BAFTA Award-winning fictionalized documentary, That Summer Day. The special follows the lives of six school children on the day of the 7/7 London bombings in 2005. Using archived news footage, the programme was created in response to concerns about how London’s children were coping with the events of that day. The programme aired on BBC Two one year later. Susan’s other on-screen credits include ‘Jess Manning’ in the 2015 BAFTA Craft nominated BBC film The Last Hours of Laura K; ‘Lance ‘Corporal Jasmine Jaspers’ in the third season of the BBC Three’s TV series Bluestone 42 in 2015 and, a role in the TV series Uncle, also on BBC Three in the same year. She also played ‘Jessica’ in Crashing, Channel 4’s six-part British comedy, broadcast in January 2016; ‘Doctor Sensible’ in ITV’s Horrible Science; ‘Daisy’ in Hotel Trubble (2011), and ‘Roz’ in Howard Overman’s cult hit series Misfits (2013). Her theatre work includes productions at the Royal Court, Bush Theatre, Almeida, and The Royal National Theatre. Susan also joined the New York transfers of Phyllida Lloyd’s all female Donmar Warehouse productions of Henry IV and Julius Caesar at St. Ann’s Warehouse in 2014. Susan is currently involved in developing new comedies with Objective, 2LE Media and Lucky Giant, and also writing her own comedy series Fix You as a writer/performer with Cave Bear Productions. In 2016, Susan won Best Supporting Actor at the BBC Audio Drama Awards for her performance in the radio adaptation of Marie NDiaye’s Three Strong Women. She was a member of The National Youth Theatre as a teenager before going on to train at RADA.

Lulu is a Scottish singer who was born in Glasgow. At the very tender age of 15 she was signed to Decca Records, and the rest is history. I was curious about what she thought made her turn out so normal, when so many other young, teenage stars, somehow go wayward, and end up dead or really messed up. She had an interesting answer. She has appeared on stage in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Song and Dance", as well as the Royal National Theatre's "Guys and Dolls." , she has hosted her own television program, "Happening For Lulu", and hosted a radio show on Capitol Radio, she continues to tour and make beautiful music too. "The Royal Family"'s own theatre royalty Rosemary Harris talks about her current role as Fanny Cavendish at Manhattan Theatre Club and her 1975 performance as Julie Cavendish with such costars as Sam Levene and Eva Le Gallienne (including what she's stolen from "Miss Le G"). She also takes us back to her childhood role as "The Queen" in a play written and staged by her older sister; her discovery by Moss Hart and her Broadway debut in an unsuccessful show that he both wrote and directed; her illustrious directors and leading men, including Laurence Olivier (who personally demonstrated how she was to play Ophelia's mad scene), John Gielgud (who fired her at one point), Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole, among many others; whether she agrees with the generality that she plays English roles in America and American roles in England; her participation in the founding of such influential theatre companies as the APA (later the APA-Phoenix), the Chichester Festival and the Royal National Theatre, and why she feels the disappearance of the company structure is such a loss for actors today. Original air date - November 9, 2009.
