The state's biggest rivalry takes center stage Saturday in Grand Forks as just for the second time in the Division I era, North Dakota State travels to Grand Forks and the Alerus Center to face North Dakota. The Fighting Hawks enter with a mark of 3-2, with losses to Boise State and South Dakota. UND hasn't defeated NDSU in the D-1 era, with its last win coming in 2003. Bison quarterback Cam Miller will make his first start in the Alerus Center, Miller got in one play in the game in 2021 after starting quarterback Quincy Patterson had his helmet knocked off. UND quarterback Tommy Schuster will make his fourth start against the Bison, looking for his first win against the Bison. The Forum's Jeff Kolpack and WDAY's Dom Izzo preview the matchup as a sellout crowd will await the Bison in Grand Forks Saturday afternoon.
After a lopsided, 57-point loss at UCF last Thursday on national television, Temple can - and perhaps should - get its first American Athletic Conference win Friday night at Lincoln Financial Field when the Owls host Tulsa. John DiCarlo, Kyle Gauss, Javon Edmonds and Cayden Steele talked about how Temple can beat a 2-4 Golden Hurricane team, and we have audio from first-year Temple head coach Stan Drayton talking about the team's usage of backup quarterback Quincy Patterson and the play of right tackle Victor Stoffel and how he can open up some possibilities for a struggling offensive line. And we have some basketball talk for listeners as well in this week's mailbag.
Welcome back to Views From Lot K! Max and Steve here to recap your weekend, which started with a huge Eagles win over the Commanders. DeVonta Smith had a career day in the first half while the defense was lock down all four quarters. Max and Steve discuss if the lack of second half offense is worrying, but compliment Brandon Graham and the defense for making it not an issue (01:10). The Phillies split the weekend series with the Braves to finish the regular season at Citizens Bank Park. They fight for the final playoff spot, but do not seem to be pushing too hard to get the spot (14:43). Penn State gets a standard win over Central Michigan with Keytron Allen getting 100+ rushing yards in their final non-conference game (23:05). Temple gets a strong win at the Linc and shuts out UMass, 28-0. Temple's defense slowed UMass to get anything going while E.J. Warner and Quincy Patterson split time at QB which may be something to get used to (27:55). Finally, Bets of the Week (32:22). All this and more on Views From Lot K! First-year Temple football head coach Stan Drayton announced Thursday that D'Wan Mathis would be his starting quarterback in the Owls' season opener next week at Duke and that transfer Quincy Patterson would back him up. You'll hear audio from Thursday's media availability, including Drayton's explanation of what Mathis did to earn the starting job and his opinion on the most important position battles, including the running backs, safeties, pass rushers and wide receivers. And John DiCarlo and Javon Edmonds answered questions from a full mailbag this week as well.

Under new head coach Stan Drayton, Temple kicks off preseason camp this Thursday, and OwlScoop.com Editor John DiCarlo and former Temple quarterback and assistant coach Adam DiMichele will get you plugged in on the various position battles heading into August and also explain why poor special teams play could be a thing of the past with the new staff. Listeners will hear Drayton talking about how quarterback D'Wan Mathis has responded to the addition of fellow quarterback Quincy Patterson, and John and Adam have answers to your mailbag questions as well.
First-year Temple head coach Stan Drayton talked during spring ball about adding depth at quarterback, and the Owls did just that with the addition of former Virginia Tech and North Dakota State QB Quincy Patterson. Adam DiMichele scouted Patterson previously when he entered the transfer portal coming out of Virginia Tech and talked about what Patterson's addition could mean to the Owls, returning starter D'Wan Mathis and Temple's quarterback room. And in this episode's mailbag, Adam talked about some of his favorite Temple teammates from his playing days, how his DiMichele Brothers Performance training program is coming along, and what he misses most about coaching at Temple.
First-year head coach Stan Drayton said he wanted to add some depth at quarterback, and Temple has it now after adding North Dakota State's Quincy Patterson, who started his career at Virginia Tech. John DiCarlo, Dante Collinelli and Sam Cohn break down Patterson's game and what his addition could mean to the Owls, along with another transfer portal addition in Duke offensive tackle Peace Addo. And Aaron McKie's Temple basketball team still has just nine scholarship players on the roster. Do the Owls have enough talent to be an NCAA Tournament team as they continue to build toward next season and look to add pieces to the program? We answer that question and several more from the mailbag, too.
Quincy Patterson will have one more chance to play quarterback at the FBS level. The former North Dakota State quarterback told ESPN on Wednesday night he is transferring to Temple. Patterson started seven games for the Bison, winning each of those games before Cam Miller took over in the third quarter of NDSU's game against Missouri State. Patterson tallied six passing touchdowns, seven rushing scores, along with four interceptions.
Zach, Andrew, and Chris return to discuss the latest transfer news. Jordan Addison, Quincy Patterson, Gerry Bohanon, and more. They also continue their CFB Win Totals series with 3 more teams. Tune in to hear the many twists and turns the conversation takes.
Quincy Patterson II's time at North Dakota State is over. Two sources confirmed to WDAY Sports that the dual-threat quarterback entered the NCAA transfer portal Monday morning. The 6-foot-3, 242-pound Patterson originally came to NDSU as a transfer from Virginia Tech, a Division I FBS program where he spent the first three years of his collegiate career.

North Dakota State returns to the field this Saturday and will face an opponent they haven't seen since 2017. Indiana State returns to the schedule after rotating off in 2018 and 2019, the Sycamores opted out of the 2020 season. The Bison enter this game with a potential question at quarterback after the starter, Quincy Patterson was benched last week against Missouri State. Cam Miller entered the game and threw two fourth quarter touchdown passes to rally the Bison to a 27-20 win. Jeff Kolpack and Dom Izzo discuss the potential change at quarterback and everything else surrounding Bison football.
It's THE question among Bison fans this week after Cam Miller came off the bench to lead North Dakota State to two fourth quarter touchdowns in a 27-20 comeback win over Missouri State. Who will be the starting QB for the Herd going forward? Miller was an electric 7-of-9 in relief for 112 yards with two big scores to Phoenix Sproles and Christian Watson. Quincy Patterson tops NDSU in rushing through seven games, in yards and scoring, and piloted the Herd to big wins against North Dakota and Northern Iowa. Swany Says both QBs will be needed by the Bison if they are to return to Frisco. Swany and Brady recap Miller's performance, the QB questions, and the fact NDSU controls its own destiny when it comes to Dome-field advantage in the playoffs. The Missouri Valley Football Conference race is heating up, as the weather cools, this week, on the Bison Illustrated Podcast!
By - Joshua A. Swanson A week after a 34-20 demolition of a Northern Iowa program on the rise, the Herd looks to spoil Illinois State's homecoming. Quincy Patterson torched the Panthers for four touchdowns, including a dynamite 85-yard precision guided bomb to Christian Watson. Watson, the most explosive offensive weapon in the FCS, finished with five catches for 163 yards and a score. A big punt return by Jayden Price, followed by a strip sack by Will Mostaert, setup two Bison touchdowns early in the second half. Swany is joined by the Bison Illustrated's Brady Drake. The guys talk about a Herd offense on the rise, and the suffocating Code Green/"Best Friends Defense." Swany says he expects NDSU's offense to be aggressive in attacking the Redbirds today, and ISU's problems getting off the field on third down will be costly against the Herd. Patterson's growing chemistry with his receivers, combined with his running skills and the Bison ground game, are heating up. The guys also discuss some surprise teams in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, and a slate of big matchups this weekend - including North Dakota at Southern Illinois, and South Dakota at UNI. The Bison offense continues the march, this week, on Herd It Hear! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

North Dakota State used a three-phase approach in the second half Saturday afternoon at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome. The No. 5-ranked Bison used a big punt return, a forced fumble and timely power runs from quarterback Quincy Patterson to fuel a 34-20 victory against No. 12-ranked Northern Iowa in Missouri Valley Football Conference play before 18,536 fans. The Bison (5-0, 2-0 MVFC) scored two touchdowns in the first six minutes of the second half to start to pull away from the stingy Panthers. NDSU has won eight consecutive games against UNI.
No. 5-ranked North Dakota State had two key stops on fourth down and added an interception to help earn a 16-10 victory against the No. 10-ranked University of North Dakota on Saturday in Missouri Valley Football Conference play at the Alerus Center. The Bison (4-0, 1-0 MVFC) won at the Alerus Center for the first time in three tries. UND (2-2, 0-1) had its 12-game home winning streak snapped. NDSU has won 11 consecutive conference openers. Bison quarterback Quincy Patterson scored on a 3-yard run with 1 minute, 13 seconds remaining to give NDSU a 16-7 lead before UND added a late field goal. The Bison played in Grand Forks for the first time since 2003.
By - Joshua A. Swanson So far, so good. North Dakota State is 2 - 0 after trouncing Valparaiso 64 - 0 at the Fargodome. Nine different Bison scored touchdowns, eight of them coming from at least 20 yards out. Swany Says expect a coming out sort of performance from Quincy Patterson today. The signal caller from Chicago rushed the ball for 94 yards and a touchdown, and connected on 4-of-5 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown, against Valpo. With the Bison leading the nation in rushing at 358.5 yards per game, tonight at Towson is ripe for some big play action home run balls. The bold prediction of the week is a defensive touchdown from Code Green. Towson enters the game having been intercepted five times. I expect the Bison defense to stuff the Tigers run game, creating long passing downs. NDSU's imposing defensive front will get pressure on Towson's QB, causing him to rush a throw to a Bison defender that will be housed. We also take a stroll down memory lane, remembering NDSU's 23-21 win at Iowa five years ago this weekend, and, of course, the Herd's 2013 National Championship against Towson. The tailgating scene at Iowa with Bison Nation was unforgettable, and the day only got better from there. Drink in all the majesty and glory that is a college football Saturday, this week on Herd It Hear! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
As we enjoy and celebrate this weekend's festivities surrounding North Dakota State's game against Valparaiso, it's important that we reflect on the twentieth anniversary of 9/11. On September 11, 2001, 2,977 people were killed in four separate acts of terrorism against America in New York City, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania. We honor the memories of those lost as we will never forget the events of that day and its aftermath. I was sitting in a history class at Menard Hall on NDSU's campus when we learned the first plane hit the World Trade Center. Later that day, I walked to class at South Engineering by the Bison statue on the south end of campus. Campus was somber and quiet as the world had changed forever. Yet here we are, 20 years later, still standing, and still united. Shifting gears, we're joined by Brian Shawn from Midco Sports to talk about the Herd's 28-6 opening day win over Albany. We discuss the dominating performance from Code Green, the solid play from Bison quarterback Quincy Patterson, and the Rams and the rushing attack bulldozing the Great Danes in the second half. The Herd out-gaining Albany 259-22 on the ground. We also visit about NDSU's improved secondary play, and the focus on getting better and taking strides against Valpo this week. It's a day for reflection, and celebration, as we stand united, the Strength of the Herd, this week, on Herd It Hear With Swany. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
North Dakota State won its opener in convincing fashion, riding the stalwart defensive effort by Code Green to a 28 – 6 victory over Albany. Quincy Patterson was solid in his debut as the Bison quarterback, while the Rams and running attack took things over in the second half. Swany and Brady go through what they liked about Saturday's win, which improved to NDSU 9-1 all-time against the CAA. Next up for the Herd is Valparaiso. The guys talk about the areas where they'd like to see the Herd make strides between games one and two, and tell you their go-to tailgating foods. The championship train keeps on chugging, this week, on the Bison Illustrated Podcast!
North Dakota State enters the fall as the No. 3/No. 4 team in America, but with a giant chip on its shoulders after seeing their season end in the FCS quarterfinals at Sam Houston State last spring. While all eyes will be on new quarterback, Quincy Patterson, a transfer from Virginia Tech, how far the Herd goes will be dictated by how well the Rams play. The offensive line needs to give Patterson time, and key a strong running attack, to open up things for NDSU's explosive playmakers like Christian Watson and Phoenix Sproles. Swany also delivers a physics lesson on how Patterson will be delivering some Netwons this afternoon ... Force = Mass x Acceleration! On the defensive side of the ledger, Code Green faces a tough test in Albany QB Jeff Undercuffler, who led the FCS in 2019 with 41 touchdown passes. Swany is joined by Nolan Schmidt, and they tell you why they're both bullish on the Bison's prospects to get back to Frisco. With more hot takes in one hour than should be legal on radio, kick off your tailgater and Bison Game Day with Herd It Hear with Swany! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The 2021 fall season is here for North Dakota State. The Bison open the year with some question marks, notably at quarterback as transfer Quincy Patterson is set to take over as the signal caller. Kolpack and Izzo discuss the challenges awaiting Patterson and the Bison offense and also dive into what Albany brings to the table. The Great Danes enter with an elite quarterback in Jeff Undercuffler.
NDSU announced Friday that Virginia Tech transfer Quincy Patterson will be the starting quarterback for the Bison in their season opener next Saturday against Albany. Patterson beat out sophomore Cam Miller and freshman Cole Payton for the job. WDAY Sports Director Dom Izzo and the Forum's Mike McFeely discussed the decision and the impact it could have going forward.

On Episode 73 of the Teel Time podcast, David Teel and Jonathan Heeter continue to talk about Virginia Tech's tumultuous football offseason. Since the last episode, the Hokies' 2019 quarterback competition was halved as Josh Jackson and Hendon Hooker both announced they were transferring. With just two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster - Ryan Willis and Quincy Patterson -- where do the Hokies go from here? Meanwhile, Virginia Tech basketball picked up a road win at Miami but standout guard Justin Robinson sustained an injury. The Hokies were already thin on depth, so how with Robinson's injury affect the Hokies? And Virginia picked up a road overtime win against N.C. State, and the Cavaliers have just one game (a home contest vs. Miami) before back-to-back games against Duke and North Carolina. We also briefly chat about the Super Bowl. Music: Slow Burn by Kevin MacLeod.
Andy Bitter and Aaron McFarling talk at length about the Hokies' decision to make Josh Jackson the starting quarterback for the season opener against West Virginia. We dive in to what made Jackson the choice, AJ Bush's possible role, Hendon Hooker's outlook, how Quincy Patterson could affect things next year and much more.
