This episode tackles the complexity of Sino-Serbian relations vis-à-vis the EU from a historical and regional perspective. Serbia is a European EU-candidate country, but it has a long history of advocating for a non-aligned international position. Furthermore, in recent years Serbia has emerged as a key Chinese partner in Europe, with intensified economic and socio-political cooperation and the gradual establishment of a so-called “Ironclad Friendship”. In 2024, Serbia was one of three countries on Xi Jinping's European tour and the first in Europe to commit to building a “community with a shared future” with China. Based on extensive empirical research, the development of Sino-Serbian relations is presented with a special emphasis on the role of culture in international relations, e.g. the role of discourse and public opinion. Verjetno se nam je že zgodilo, da ko smo prišli v službo ali kak krog prijateljev in smo iskali tolažilne in vzpodbudne besede, ker smo bili v skrbeh, kaj vse še moramo postoriti v prihodnjih dneh, da nam je kdo od poslušajočih odgovoril: »Zaupaj. Vstopi v današnji dan. Dovolj je dnevu lastna teža…« Verjetno se takrat nismo zavedali, da podobno nas tolaži in nam daje upanja evangelist Matej v njegovem evangeliju: »Ne bodite torej v skrbeh za jutri, kajti jutrišnji dan bo imel svoje skrbi. Dovolj je dnevu njegova lastna teža.« Zaupam v te izrečene besede in če jim, sem jim pripravljen tudi slediti. Vera brez zaupanja je prazna. Verujem, ko zaupam v Boga in njegovo delovanje. Številne svetopisemske osebe in svetniki so kljub obilici vsakodnevnih skrbi ohranjali zaupanje v Boga in tako je Bog tudi preko preizkušenj življenja lahko ustvaril in tudi po njih delal čudovite stvari v njihovem življenju in v ljudeh s katerimi so se srečali. Spomnimo se samo svetopisemskih oseb – Mojzesa, prerokov Ezekiela, Danijela v novi zavezi apostolov in med njima še posebej Petra in Pavla. Ali svetnikov od naših slovenskih blaženih in mučencev – bl. Antona Martina Slomška, Alojzija Grozdeta, svetega papeža Janeza Pavla II. in tudi v tem letu v svetem letu upanja bo papež Frančišek ob svetoletnem srečanju najstnikov 27.4., razglasil za svetega Carla Acutisa – svetnika v kavbojkah, kot ga nekateri pojmujejo. Posebej mi je všeč njegova misel: »Vsi se rodimo kot izvirniki, mnogo pa jih žal umre kot fotokopije!« Geslo tega leta svetega letaje romarji upanja. Rarachov príbeh kladie zásadné otázky: ako pochopiť mentalitu ľudí, s ktorými zdanlivo nemáme nič spoločné? Ako sa dostať z toxického prostredia? Čím sa nechať inšpirovať k zmene životného štýlu? Kde nájsť skutočné prijatie? „Na začiatku to bolo ako iné stretnutia dvoch neznámych ľudí. Pre mňa bol Matej mladý muž, ktorý ma mal chrániť, ja pre neho kandidátka. Vnímala som ho nezaťažene, možno skôr s apriórnou dôverou a som rada, že napokon sa aj on otvoril priamej skúsenosti so mnou. Až roky potom som sa dozvedela, ako veľmi vzdialené boli vtedy naše svety. Vďaka vzájomnému počúvaniu, rozprávaniu sa mohli tieto rozdielne svety nielen stretnúť, ale aj navzájom prijať a spriateliť. "Če poznamo zgodovino jezika, se veliko izjem, nepravilnosti, posebnosti, ki se jih moramo naučiti na pamet, jaz temu pravim 'razizjemi', in jih bolje razumemo. In s tem seveda ne obremenjujemo toliko možganov," pravi jezikoslovec dr. Matej Šekli. Zato smo v tokratnem Jezikanju ponovili, kaj so praslovanščina, stara cerkvena slovanščina, Brižinski spomeniki in karolinška minuskula.

Matej je eden tistih izseljencev, ki se jih je šele v zrelih letih polotila želja po iskanju priložnosti na tujem. Po spontanem izletu pred 6 leti je "preprosto" ostal tam. V tem času je opravil tečaj angleščine, nato pa pridobil številne certifikate in na koncu še diplomo iz poslovnih ved. Začel je, kot pravi, povsem na začetku oz. na dnu, za kar je potreboval veliko poguma. Zdaj dela v podjetju, ki se ukvarja z deratizacijo in dezinsekcijo (predvsem miši in termitov), prebiva pa v Buccanu, podeželski četrti mesta Logan blizu Brisbana, kjer si skupaj z ženo, petimi konji, dvema psoma, mačko in dvema panjema slovenskih (!) čebel z veseljem delita življenjski prostor tudi s številnimi divjimi živalmi.
