Chicago hip-hop artist Cassius Tae will take the stage at Schubas Tavern on Sunday, Jan. 19, to close out locally-run, multi-venue festival Tomorrow Never Knows. The artist plans to perform his November 2024 album ‘Moments in Desire,' which was the culmination of four years' work — and set back by a crashed hard drive. Known for his freestyling skills, Tae noted many of the raps on Moments were improvised in-studio. He met with Vocalo host Nudia Hernandez to talk about the performance, his passion for freestyle rap and the meaning behind ‘Moments in Desire.' Growing up in a musical family, Chicago artist Face learned to mix and master her own beats during the pandemic. On March 26, she headlined Schubas Tavern — joined onstage by fellow Chicago artists Ine'a J and Kiraly Payne — performing songs from her sophomore EP ‘Paragon.' Released February 14, the artist reflects on family and relationships throughout the project. This summer, Face is gearing up to perform at Navy Pier's Skyline Sessions on July 26, debuting her new song "Symphony" alongside Jay Wood and Kaicrewsade. Chicago rapper, producer and model Jay Wood made waves in 2023 with his debut headlining performance at Schubas Tavern and the release of his EP ‘NOWHERE, FAST.' Before the year wrapped, he sat down with Vocalo host Bekoe to discuss his multifaceted career and recent milestones. Bio: Paul FehribachBig Jones Born and raised in Jasper, Indiana, Paul Fehribach's small-town upbringing instilled in him a passion for heritage recipes. His summers were filled with fishing, hunting, foraging for mushrooms and helping in the garden at his grandparents' farmhouse. Fond memories of working alongside his mother in the kitchen and cooking from family heirloom recipes resulted in an appreciation for fresh, seasonal ingredients and a love for traditional cooking. As the executive chef and co-owner of Big Jones in Chicago, he showcases his homespun-style of cooking and commitment to finding and preserving historic foods of the American South. Chef Paul is a graduate of Indiana University's Jacob School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana. Following graduation, he served as the executive chef at Chapman's Restaurant & Bar where he further explored cooking with local and organic ingredients and heirloom seeds. In the early 1990s, he joined the opening group of Laughing Planet Café in downtown Bloomington before moving to Chicago in 1996. He transitioned to the front of house while working at restaurants Hi Ricky Asian Noodle Shop in Deerfield, Ill. and finally Schubas Tavern & Harmony Grill. By 2008, Paul was ready to return to the kitchen. He branched out on his own with the opening of his restaurant Big Jones. His regionally-inspired fare with Cajun, Creole, Lowcountry and Appalachia influences has garnered both local and national acclaim, including Best New Restaurant by Chicago Magazine. New Jersey hip-hop artist Chris Patrick and Houston R&B singer Dende stopped at Schubas Tavern this month on their four-date mini tour, the “Gang Activity Tour.” Though they live in different regions of the country, the two artists got connected through the internet and have collaborated several times over the years. This year, Dende released his new album ‘'95 Civic' under small label CXR, which Chris Patrick was a founding member of. Chris notes the label hopes to foster a strong base to support smaller artists. Before their Chicago show, Chris and Dende sat down in the Vocalo studios with Bekoe to discuss touring, performing at SXSW, upcoming releases and their favorite chicken in the city. The rising folk-rock star is the consummate storyteller, with a remarkable ability to take listeners on a winding, wonderful, and introspective journey through the depths of the human experience. Kessler’s highly anticipated new album, About Memory, was released on November 3, 2017. In 2012, Kessler formed Todd Kessler and The New Folk, and they released their first album, Sea Fever, which was produced by Manny Sanchez (Patrick Stump, Umphrees McGee). The album’s release was supported with a lengthy residency at Schubas Tavern, but as it happened, Kessler missed part of the residency when he was chosen as part of Team Ceelo on NBC’s The Voice. Gaining exposure from The Voice, Todd Kessler and the New Folk began touring more, playing festivals like Summerfest, Taste of Chicago and Mile of Music. Between 2013 and 2015, the band worked on new material and released two singles: “Exactly Where I Should Be” and “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.” But, as members of the New Folk began getting married and having children, life on the road became arduous. Eventually, the New Folk agreed to a break, disbanding indefinitely to spend time with their families. They are getting ready to appear on the Bud Light stage at the annual "The Taste of Chicago" July 13th.  The New Folk celebrated the release of their debut album, Sea Fever, with an August 2012 “Practice Space Presents” residency at Schuba's Tavern, but the story behind The New Folk began in 2005 as singer/songwriter Todd Kessler went in to the studio to record his debut album. That album, entitled We Are The MusicMakers, was released in 2006 and with the backing of his original band helped Kessler to make his name in the local Chicago music scene.  In 2007 and 2008, in the midst of touring the Midwest, Kessler teamed up with Producer Greg Magers to record his next two albums, the Veronika EP and Boomerang, only garnering him more praise and recognition on the road and at home. It was while recording Veronika that The New Folk began to take root with the addition of Bob Parlier on drums, Sam Smiley on guitar and Graham Burris on bass. The quartet began playing out in 2008 in support of Boomerang, still under the name of Todd Kessler, but it was during the next two years and the addition of a string section (Elana Hiller and Chris Bauler), a horn section (David Ben-Porat and Ben Bell Bern) and a second vocalist (Molly Parlier) that the band began to make waves with their signature alternative folk/pop sound. 2009’s double-single release “Golden Bird,” along with headlining shows at Schuba's, Lincoln Hall, Double Door and Millennium Park, solidified the band’s place as a respected group in Chicago, and in 2010, the band began playing shows under the name Todd Kessler and the New Folk.

A multi-instrumentalist playing guitar, banjo and bass, Pete has toured Scandinavia, the EU and the US. His musical style is varied and includes: Celtic, C&W, Jazz, Blues and Rock.He is described as simply a bold man on stage, a fantabulous flat picker and lead singer with a gritty music sensibility honed by years of playing country music roadhouses. As a veteran performer with over thirty years on the Midwest music scene, Pete delivers a powerful vocal performance complimented by sizzling flat-picked leads and rock-solid rhythm work. Peter began cultivating his musical skills at the age of 13 playing the local Honky-tonks around Chicago.
