As broadcast November 14, 2022 with plenty of concert memories for the start of the work week. For anyone that was up in Seoul this weekend to see either Big Thief's first concert in Korea or Khruangbin's performance the same night, you all saw amazing shows. Big Thief's performance at Rolling Hall was something else, with the glitches and hiccups along the way somehow making it even better. Of course, it's Monday and that means all new music on this show aside from the upcoming shows, and we had a lot of great stuff drop last Friday with Sharon Van Etten, Chiiild, Jordana, and SAULT providing the big fireworks in hour one along with a highlight of PREP's show this Friday up in Seoul. Part 3 we were Poppin' Off as usual, and big new joints and albums from Wizkid, Rihanna, Stormzy, and The Boss added the big spotlights. For part 4 and our Fresh K Cuts, there wasn't a lot of info on many of the artists, but great new tunes to check out and a couple albums to spotlight as well.#feelthegravityTracklist (st:rt)Part I (00:00)Big Thief – Notflowerovlove – Out For The WeekendJordana – You're in the WayNana Lourdes – Thinking About YouSAULT – LionChiiild – Bon Voyage Part II (30:36)Ging – We're Here, My DearSharon Van Etten – When I DieChristian Leave – SuperstarRunner – Bike AgainHyd – Only Living For YouPREP – As It WasPREP – Who's Got You Singing Again Part III (59:57)Wizkid feat Ayra Starr – 2 SugarRauw Alejandro – LEJOS DEL CIELORihanna – Born AgainStormzy – FirebabeJulia Michaels – Sorry Me TooMahalia – Bag of YouBruce Springsteen – Turn Back The Hands of Time Part IV (90:51)TONE – news from youYeoeun – Lonely NightMoim – Woo~deulrejang ft Sun the Lily – YEPPIHAD feat Nieah – GoodbyeCOLL!N feat Khakii – VrVrZitten – Now is
We kick this week's episode off with two 2021 classics from Chiiild and Unusual Demont. We also feature new music from Mannywellz, Ckay, Protoje, and P-Lo. Raised in Nashville but currently based in LA, Sherwyn is featured in this week's TRUST THE SOUND segment, plus much more!
Tkay Maidza, Lolo Zouaï and Chiiild discuss why making music feels like having a superhero persona, the importance of sticking to the truth in lyrics, enjoying the search for inspiration, and why song writing is mostly just about talking to your collaborators. Tkay Maidza is a Zimbabwean-Australian multi-talented singer-songwriter and rapper. Born in Harare, Zimbabwe before moving to Australia when she was five years old, she originally trained for a tennis career, then studied architecture, before becoming a full-time musician. She also supported Billie Eilish on tour earlier this year. Yonatan “xSDTRK” Ayal is a singer and producer who leads the Canadian experimental Soul group Chiiild. He blends psychedelia, retro soul, and modern R&B. He's also produced the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Iggy Azelia, Rob Thomas, and former Music Life guest Jacob Banks. French-born, American-based R&B and Pop musician Lolo Zouaï grew up on a musical diet of hip-hop, classic French chanson, and Algerian rai music. She's recently supported Dua Lipa on tour.

"Chiiild" is a Canadian experimental soul band led by singer/producer Yonatan Ayal (aka xSDTRK) and guitarist/producer "Pierre-Luc Rioux (aka PL).Despite both hailing from Montréal, the duo didn't meet until crossing paths in the LA music scene, at a time when Yonatan was forging a career as a producer/beat-maker and PL was doing the same as a producer/writer and session guitarist for numerous artists. Once the pair decided to collaborate it took a few years for the "Chiiild" sound to emerge, first experimenting with a fully "soul" sound and then making tracks with the intention that other singers would be featured on them. Finally Yonatan had a break-through, realizing that the only way his music would not get watered down was to become a singer himself and to write about personal subjects that resonated with him.As usual, there is a lot more to know about the background and paths "Chiiild" have taken to get here, so check out this latest episode of Roots to Grooves where Jay and Jesse also spin a selection of their favorite tracks from "Chiiild".To listen to the full episode, including the featured music, visit... signlradio.com"Roots to Grooves" is a production of SIGNL.https://www.signlradio.comhttps://www.instagram.com/signlradiohttps://www.twitter.com/signlradiohttps://www.facebook.com/signlradiohttps://www.mixcloud.com/signlhttps://open.spotify.com/user/96mhz6qfjoztxbl2dpm0uj903?si=aAZpsoEnRAKdx85kr1QWhg

As broadcast July 27, 2021 with extra laughs for you podcast punters. We begin the show remembering a time in a small Illinois town where two rock legends banded arms with other protestors to try and shut down a blatant exploiter of the Amazon rainforest back in 2001, exactly 20 years ago. Since Doors drummer John Densmore & Bonnie Raitt locked arms & were arrested that fateful day, our planet in the intervening years has obviously gone into a massive ecological crisis to only be met by charlatan politicians and shrugs from the corporate elite. As broadcast July 26, 2021 with plenty of extra palm trees for podcast travelers. Tonight we remember Aaliyah, a transformative talent in the worlds of music, film, and pretty much everything else she wanted to do. Yesterday marked the 20th anniversary of her final live performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Exactly one month later, she would be gone, killed in a tragic aviation accident in The Bahamas that was also easily avoidable. After our rememberance, we started rocking the new tunes out this past weekend, with a particular focus on Leon Bridges & Chiiild, both out with new albums, along with new singles out from Lorde, James Blake, Childish Gambino & many other very worthy artists for our first hour New Muses Monday. As broadcast May 3, 2021 with extra sauce for our podcast dippers. We mark yesterday to start the show as in 2005 the original supergroup Cream reunited for a very rare four night showcase at The Royal Albert Hall in London, which was in fact where they'd had their "farewell" show prior to breaking up back in the late '60's. After that though, there was very little time for any mucking around as it was a HUGE release weekend of new music, with both Danno in our first hour and Yejin very busy with new tunes for both hours. Amazing new joints from Faye Webster, Crumb, Chiiild, Jessie Ware, Tame Impala, and even Kings of Convenience were out with new singles, mixes, albums & big announcements. After Eight Show - Music That You Just Don't Hear Anywhere Else!
We were overflowing with #NewMusic this week! An eclectic mix of original, intelligent, melodic, grown-up songs - #electronic, #rnb, #jazz, #blues and #acoustic. And mostly from artists who you have not heard of - yet! Our Luvva Cover feature, this week, is a Tom Petty song. Sadly, he died on 2nd October, 2017 and two nights after that, Phoebe Bridgers performed one of his songs as a tribute. It was added as a Bonus track to her album of earlier that year and it's such a sensitive and beautiful treatment of his song. Give it a listen! New Music You Just Don't Hear Anywhere Else!
