And I don't think he's had the same voice for a while now. … I think it just makes things very, very difficult for him to be that guy for this team. I think it works if you're Steph and Klay. It doesn't work if you're Jordan Poole and Jonathan Kuminga and some of these younger guys who don't necessarily want to hear it from him.”      17:35-17:47: “Steve's Kerr biggest job this season is to find a way to get Chris Paul to buy in on coming off the bench. And of course Andrew Wiggins has to be the one that wants to do those things, right? What I do think that they're losing is the relationships, the kind of mending of relationships that Bob Myers could do, how Bob Myers can calm Draymond down and build a bridge between Draymond Green and Steve Kerr, build a bridge between Steph Curry and the young guys and kinda get people bought in, get [owner] Joe Lacob bought in. … Now, one thing I do think that may happen is that if this Chris Paul thing doesn't work, Bob Myers has never really shown an inclination to make big moves at the trade deadline. The Power of Next Play Speed: Graham Betchart's Strategy on Overcoming Mistakes In this episode of "Coaching Youth Hoops" with host Bill Flitter, special guest Graham Betchart discusses the importance of mental skills training for youth basketball players.  Betchart emphasizes the need to provide and offer mental training exercises consistently, even if initially, kids may not be interested. He believes that although children may not be fully conscious or aware at a younger age, the lessons will start to click later on. Betchart encourages coaches to be patient and persistent in offering and providing information, as it may take time for individuals to become aware and interested.  Betchart suggests allocating 5 minutes per practice towards mental training, bookending practice sessions with 2 minutes dedicated to mental training exercises at the beginning and end. He introduces a mental training exercise called the WiFi walk, where the team does a series of breathing exercises and walks back and forth on the court while focusing on feeling their feet on the ground to become more present and focused before practice. The speaker also discusses the concept of "next play speed" and the importance of moving forward in the game. He shares examples of basketball players, like Aaron Gordon, who have improved by practicing this skill. Betchart highlights the importance of being competitive with a positive attitude and "competitive compassion" towards referees, creating a positive relationship with them. Throughout the episode, Betchart emphasizes the significance of building a positive mindset, being fully present, and choosing a response rather than reacting. He provides various exercises, such as visualization and positive self-talk, to help players stay focused and engaged. The rising problem of mopeds and motorcycles in New York City bike lanes is impossible to ignore but the solutions are anything but simple. Recently, journalist and friend of the podcast Aaron Gordon wrote an essay for his newsletter titled "Biking in New York City Has Gotten Worse," in which he laments the change that's happened in recent years of larger and faster motorized vehicles using the city's bike lanes. We're not talking pedal-assist e-bikes and cargo bikes or even the Arrow e-bikes that have long been preferred by New York's delivery workers. We're talking full-on mopeds and motorcycles—electric and gas-powered alike—many of which are unlicensed and, even if they did have the proper registration, generally do not belong in bike lanes. In this coversation, we talk about how and why this problem has grown, largely due to the major food-delivery app companies which wash their hands of any responsibility for providing their workers, all of whom are categorized not as employees but as contractors, with fair wages, benefits, and even street-legal vehicles.
