I wanted to take some time today to introduce myself, or re-introduce myself to all of you. As my business has evolved, I realize there are many of you who have jumped into the middle of my story while some of you have been here from the very beginning. It struck me, as I was thinking about this, that we all have a 'sober evolution'. Just as we evolve throughout our lives, we grow as aFree humans. And, being an entrepreneur in this space, my business has its own 'evolution'. For some coaches and business owners in this sober space, they offer one thing. For me, I love to create new offers, try new things and think of new and creative ways to connect with all of you! This episodes highlights some of the evolutions in my life and business since becoming aFree. I think it's fair to say that everything has changed. While I used to be wary of change, now I love the freedom to become more authentically me! I believe living alcohol-free allows each of us to evolve and to continue to evolve as we embrace the possibilites of being fully alive! Show Notes Here Connect with Teri Here

We get caught up in the hard work of sobriety and forget to celebrate all the great things that come with the hard work. All the questions about how will people react, worrying about the future, feeling embarrassed and uncomfortable, hating to feel feelings... but what about the clarity of thought? What about waking up without a hangover and not having to piece together the night before? How about showing up to work on time... for once! Living with alcoholism is like being a prisoner of yourself and your own mind. But with sobriety comes this sense of power and control, a clear signal with your brain, and you get the opportunity to be a good person. Who knew?!? This is my last question I ask every guest, and over the years, we've gotten some really good answers. Let's dig back in the archives and hear what some of our guests had to say about their favorite thing about being a sober person. Jen Elizabeth is an author and recovery advocate. But more fittingly perhaps in my opinion after talking with her at length, Jen is a recovery warrior. She has ended her silence about surviving a multitude of childhood traumas, sexual abuse, drug addiction, jail, and eating disorders... and outlines it all in her first book, "Shape of a Woman." Today Jen is a wife and a mother to two incredible children. She is a writer, and recognized speaker on all things recovery. She has healed her life and inspires anyone who crosses her path to do the same. Tony Harnell is an American rock singer, best known for his work with the Norwegian hard rock band, TNT. Tony has an exceptional voice and vocal range which spans over 4 octaves. With Harnell, In 2015 Tony briefly fronted the hard rock band Skid Row, and since 2005, also fronts the terrific project, Starbreaker, formed with Magnus Karlson. Mark Kendall from the multiplatinum band Great White's passion and natural abilities got him hooked on guitar at a young age. Mark is a solid supporter of MusiCares, and like me big-time recovery advocate. Mark’s relentless efforts to help those seeking a sober life have been expressed in feature stories on Fox News and numerous national radio programs and podcasts. Dr. Howard Wetsman is an addiction psychiatrist, scientist, and author living in New Orleans. Howard, as he likes to be called, has a long history of treating addiction within multiple paradigms. He blogs at TOCDr.com, has written a book called QAA Questions and Answers on Addiction, and maintains a great channel on Youtube called “Ending Addiction.” Dr. Wetsman's work is both fascinating and pioneering, and this conversation is one of the most compelling I've participated in. He makes some bold claims here, and from what I'm learning about his ideas, and the science that supports them... Austin Cooper -Personal Development Coach -Founder of Sober Evolution, everything from clothing -> events -> to one on one life coaching -Creator of The Sober Experience which has and event coming up in a few weeks in St. Petersburg, FL -He’s been featured on ABC’s 20/20 -Owner of Peachy the Pig -I started drinking at 15 which turned me from being shy to “life of the party” -I started prioritizing my life around alcohol and drugs when I started college -I dropped out of college twice -I became extremely depressed and anxious and self medicated by using alcohol and various drugs -I saw an old friend/drug dealer of mine decide to go to treatment on a Facebook post and witnessed him build his life which inspired me and opened me up to the idea of getting sober -My family gave me an intervention -I spent 22 days in rehab and treated it as a learning camp which allowed me to focus and become confident in building my life. -Soon after treatment, I got healthy, started figuring out my goals and went back to school to get my real estate license. -Through accomplishing things early on, I realized that I could accomplish anything. This excited me enough to start my own influential company, Sober Evolution -Some other accomplishments of mine that have only been possible due to my recovery include: winning a legit athletic trophy, starting my own business, being featured on ABC’s 20/20, getting any job I interviewed for, moving to Florida, creating sober events.3-5 takeaways:-Fears don’t usually come true. They are only a figment if our imagination. -As long as we strive to learn and grow each day, we can overcome just about any obstacles. -The things we want most in life are usually right outside of our comfort zones. -Sober isn’t boring -Each hardship we have in life can be the greatest learning experiences as long as we open our minds to that fact and seek knowledge from those experiences.

Brad Vos is a mental health and addictions recovery advocate who, in his words, "promotes the opportunity, and not the sacrifice, that recovery provides." Canada-based, he's someone who's tried numerous roads to sobriety, including 12-step and SMART Recovery, but finds he has a "bad wolf" who can talk him out of staying on the right path. But he's determined to let the good wolf take charge, something that's evident in his new project—the website Sobertunity, which also includes accounts on Instagram and Facebook. Brad and I first got to know each other when he joined the accountability group I run with Sober Evolution's Austin Cooper and from day one, he's been active in the group—sharing updates, schedules, plans...and his struggles. He's therefore the ideal person to show the rest of the world the sort of stuff we do in there. He also happens to be very funny and as someone who's semi obsessed with people sharing their "light," I cherish any opportunity to let hilarity reign. In this episode, we discuss escaping a soulless sales job, staying on the path and how animals can help with our recovery, among many other topics. Austin Cooper didn't want to live anymore. Like many people suffering from addiction, he was at the too-scared-to-live, too-scared-to-die crossroads. He'd forgotten that he had people who loved him. When those loved ones did an intervention, he knew he had a choice: to live or die. He chose to live…and in less than five years, he's become an outspoken recovery advocate. It all started when he discovered some inspiring quotes that changed his life. He thought maybe those quotes could help other people and so he started an Instagram account filled with them. The account grew so rapidly that he soon found himself on 20/20 and working as a coach. Now he and I have partnered on The Light Hustler Evolution, an accountability group that includes weekly assignments, webinars, coaching sheets, a book club and more. We talk all about it in this interview and explain that if you join before January 1st, you can get locked in at a 20% off discount. While this group will eventually be invitation and nomination only, for now it is open to anyone who wants to join. There is no obligation to stay in the group if you don't want to so if you've ever struggled to meet a goal or want to interact with some cool folks (charter members include Golden Globe award winning producer Scott Steindorff, Girl Walks Out of a Bar author Lisa Smith and recovery advocate Ryan Hampton), we encourage you to join now. You can find out more about the group here and join here. NOTE: This episode is from a Facebook Live interview that we did, which means that the audio isn't as sharp as it is on regular episodes.
