The Power of Personal Development: A significant focus of Nico's recovery was centered on personal development, a critical aspect often overlooked in addiction recovery narratives. He discusses how changing his mindset and engaging with motivational figures like Dr. Eric Thomas played a crucial role in his transformation. In this episode of the Insight Addiction podcast, we had the pleasure of hosting Mark L. Fox, a rocket scientist turned inventor. Mark has developed a device that uses pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF) to help people with various health issues, including addiction and PTSD.Mark's journey began 23 years ago when his dog was diagnosed with severe arthritis. This led him to explore the potential of frequencies and technologies in treating health conditions. Over time, they discovered that these technologies could also address underlying causes of addiction such as PTSD, depression, trauma, anxiety, and lack of sleep. The device Mark invented is portable, affordable, and discreet. It works by recharging the cells in your body and increasing the production of ATP, the primary chemical used for food by your cells. This allows your body to heal itself more effectively and also to re-programme your brain.During the podcast, Mark shared several success stories from users of his device. One particularly touching story involved a 17-year-old girl who suffered from Tourette's syndrome. After using the device, her symptoms disappeared and she was able to go on her first date.Mark also discussed how the device can be used to treat other conditions such as arthritis, allergies, and even smoking addiction. He emphasized that while the device may not work for everyone, it has a high success rate and comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. To use the device, you simply wear it around your neck or place it in your pocket and run the appropriate protocol for your condition. These protocols are like recipes, each containing different frequency pairs that target specific health issues. The device currently includes 55 different protocols.Mark's ultimate goal is to make this technology accessible to as many people as possible, especially military veterans and first responders who often struggle with PTSD. Despite the challenges they face, including skepticism and resistance from some quarters, Mark remains committed to his mission. For those interested in trying out the device, Mark offers a special discount for listeners of the Insight Addiction podcast. About the guest:Bracha Goetz, a Harvard graduate and prolific writer, has penned 41 children's books and a raw, revealing memoir "Nourish the Soul," detailing her journey of overcoming food addictions. Bracha emphasizes the spiritual void behind addiction, asserting that external pleasures only increase the emptiness within. True fulfillment is achieved through gratitude. Using "The Pleasure Ladder," Bracha highlights five levels to attain lasting pleasure via joyful gratitude.Video version of this podcast on Youtube:https://youtu.be/1avZkwEIkwwKey Takeaways: The journey of addiction often begins in childhood, as individuals start questioning their existence and purpose. Addictions develop as an attempt to fill a spiritual void with physical externalities, which only exacerbates the emptiness. Gratitude plays a crucial role in overcoming addiction, filling the spiritual void that leads to addictive behaviors. The Pleasure Ladder, a concept based on ancient Kabbalistic teachings, outlines five levels of pleasure: physical, love, meaning, creativity, and transcendence. Each level offers a greater connection and lasting pleasure. The path to recovery involves recognizing and nurturing the core spiritual being within us. Best Moments: The guest's insightful explanation of how they began questioning life's purpose at age 12, leading to the development of food addictions. Jolene didn't call her self an alcoholic but she knew in no uncertain terms that her drinking was problematic. She was in the space she calls grey area drinkers. She took a body first approach using nutrition and somatic expanding to change her relationship with alcohol.

Winged Victory spent years drinking but discovered sobriety without AA or rehab. She grew up in a loving family but her parents divorced when she was young and her dad was soon out of the picture. Winged Victory was raised by her mum and they experienced a family tragedy when her brother died when she was 17. As Winged Victory grew up she became a musician working her way up to play in the Symphony Orchestra. She loved her career and didn't actually drink much when she was younger because of her dication to her job.
Robb was a doctor living in a million-dollar house with his wife and kids. He drove a Porsche 911 and earned well over a quarter of a million dollars a year. If most of us work up in his shoes we would think we had wone the lottery. But this wasn't the full story. Robbs drinking was worse than ever and he would blackout, not for hours or days but for weeks and he couldn't remember what had happened. On top of the lost days, his violence was getting worse to the point where he stabbed his wife three times because she wouldn't let him drink. He was heading in a direction he could have never imagined. One by one everyone abandoned him. They all walked away, his wife, kids and friends. He lost everything including his doctor's license. When he finally woke up from the drunken haze it was 6 months later when he was homeless sleeping under bus shelters. Addiction is the only illness that tells you you don't have it

On this Podcast, I had the honour of talking to Laura McKowen author of “We are the luckiest: The Surprising Magic of a Sober Life”. Laura shared her story and insights from her own journey to #recovery and #sobriety and we discussed the #benefitsofsoberlife. One thing that makes the most sense to her about addiction is that “Addiction is anything you do or continue to do despite the negative consequences”. Laura went from drinking somewhat problematically at the beginning to very problematically for most of the time she was drinking. Her alcohol problems started in her late teens and went on for almost twenty years when she got sober at the age of 37. Although she did other drugs as well, alcohol was always the first choice for her. On this Podcast we go inside addiction to talk about #addiction #recovery and #howweviewaddiction “You might pretend to be functioning, but you’re still using in the background” Liv believes addiction is a coping mechanism stemming from complex trauma. In her teens she started to drink, smoke weed and later on using speed. Like so many others she pretended to be high functioning whilst using alcohol and drugs to try and cope with things - a false promise that substances can’t deliver. As she graduated her drinking and using had progressed into an addiction and she found herself doing things she wouldn’t normally do. “It was awful - I had no memory of the night before, I checked if I was covered in bruises, I checked through my phone to see what I had done the night before” She had lost her job, several friends and her family wasn’t really talking to her anymore. She was totally isolated and the age of 32 she couldn’t take anymore. After a huge binge drink up she reached out for help and attended an AA meeting... Today my guest on the podcast Roman Gelperin and we go inside gaming addiction. Roman finds this addiction very psychologically interesting and he lives humans are made to get addicted to things. He spent most of his childhood playing video games then in adult life he found himself binging and becoming addicted to video games. It got to the point when he would spend weeks and months straight playing.
My guest on this episode of the podcast is Dr Robert Meyers who has been in the field of addiction for the last 39 years. His father was a heavy drinker and caused a lot of problems in his family home. This caused Dr Meyers to go on to create an intervention program that is now used worldwide to engage resistant substance users and encourage them to enter treatment. The program is called Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) which focuses on the family recovery as a whole not just on the substance user.
My guest today, Megan Starks, has spent 20 years in and out of addiction, interwoven with her spiritual journey. She finally got to the place where she was done. Megan is now over 8 months sober and writes a blog to help change the stigma around addiction. I started reading Megan's blog on Medium and loved it! So I got in touch to ask her to be on the show. Below are some of the life lessons I took away from our conversation.
My guest John Flaherty is an is an expert in the field of addiction and considered an experienced teacher of emotional and spiritual wellbeing. He has helped and inspired many people in different parts of the world to be free of their addictive behaviors and to live a more fulfilled existence. After 11 years as a Catholic priest, John made a decision to leave and start his own journey of self-discovery. Further academic studies gained him a B.A Honors in Theology from Leeds University England and a Masters in Drug & Alcohol Policy from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. My guest Annie Grace started drinking when she moved to New York at age 26 and became the youngest VP in a foreign exchange company. Her boss took her aside and made it clear that deals are done in the pub and at the bar. Annie did not fully understand the perils of alcohol, and did not even realise that alcohol was addictive at this point. So, as you would expect she started out drinking a glass of wine; fast forward 10 years and she was up to two bottles a night. After the alcohol, Annie transferred to smoking marijuana, because it was “healthier”. She would smoke marijuana, thirty minutes later she would feel down and therefore want to do it again, this lead to her smoking constantly throughout the day. This week on the podcast we had guest Chris Hill, who is an author, trainer, and survivor of the addiction journey. His addictions started when he smoked his first cigarette at age seven. They continued to the point where Chris was taking crack cocaine and heroin 20 years later. The problem was he just couldn't see a way out. That was until he developed what he calls the 'self-talk' techniques to kick his addictions. He now teaches the techniques to others on their journey and has written a 7-day beat addiction plan. The guest had overcome multiple addictions and also cross addictions. We had a conversation about the self and how developing self-worth can be a pathway to overcoming your addiction. On this #thinking episode we go inside addiction with Glenn Livingston, Ph.D. author of the book Never Binge Again™. Disillusioned by what traditional psychology had to offer overweight and/or food obsessed individuals, Dr. Livingston spent several decades researching the nature of bingeing and overeating via work with his own patients AND a self-funded research program with more than 40,000 participants. Most important, however, was his own personal journey out of obesity and food prison to a normal, healthy weight and a much more lighthearted relationship with food.
My guest today spoke about her son who was an alcoholic and how his journey affected her life. Along with her husband who was an alcoholic. We spoke about the correlation of these circumstances and how learned behaviour may play a part. We then went on to speak about how her son found sobriety but still struggles with his addictive tendencies. -- To watch the video of this episode go to http://lisaa.uk
