In the Star Trek: Voyager episode, “Spirit Folk,” the crew spend more time in their Irish holodeck simulation for a little R&R, but the locals start to grow suspicious of the visitors. The accusations of black magic threaten Tom and Harry's very lives while, possibly worse, they could drive a wedge between Janeway and her holo-boyfriend, Michael Sullivan. Mission Log returns to Fair Haven with "Spirit Folk." Hosted by John Champion and Charlynn Schmiedt Welcome to Mission Log, a Roddenberry Entertainment podcast, where we explore the Star Trek universe one episode at a time. Each week, Mission Log examines a single episode of Star Trek, diving into its ethical subtext, metaphors, and cultural significance. From the show's most iconic moments to its hidden gems, we analyze what makes Star Trek one of the greatest science fiction sagas of all time. In every episode of Mission Log we… Recap the story and analyze key moments. Discuss the morals, messages, and meanings of the dilemmas presented. In this week's Prime Subjective, we take a deep breath before a plunge into a season of Star Trek: Prodigy! But since Prodigy has Voyager on the brain, so do we! And so, we take a trip down memory lane and discuss two episodes from Star Trek: Voyager's sixth season that center on the holographic Irish town of Fair Haven. First is S6E11, "Fair Haven", and then S6E17, "Spirit Folk." Enjoy! The post The Prime Subjective: Voyager S06E11 & S06E17 appeared first on Crossroads Comedy Theater.
This week on our show, Captain Ingle and I celebrate Saint Patrick's Day by setting a course for the quaint Irish village of Fair Haven, a holodeck program created by the crew of the USS Voyager to boost morale. As is always true of the holodeck, things go wacky very quickly. Join us as we go boldly! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pageturnerstheywerenot/message

When the Fair Haven villagers lose their obliviousness algorithms, they start conspiring against the Voyager crew. But when Captain Janeway gives Michael Sullivan a glimpse of her world, they convince the townsfolk their relationships are worth saving. What's the correct response to a calendar reminder? Did Killmannin only exist on TV? Which is the best variation of “we need to talk”? [Minor "Prodigy" chat in blogtivity, and also MAJOR "Discovery" s.3 spoilers there, as well] Oh god everything's broken! First up: the "Voyager" comes across a Borg cube only to find it's crewed entirely by a handful of kids led by one particularly petulant brat in "Collective"! After that, we revisit Tom's Ireland and things have gone all self-aware in "Spirit Folk"! Also this week: ship facts, foley, and holodeck malfunctions! Voyager makes a regrettable return to Fair Haven in an adventure that simultaneously strains the limits of holographic technology, audience credulity, and human compassion. Will Tom and Harry be burned as warlocks, as we always suspected they might? Will Janeway's digital boyfriend lead the NPC revolution? Will Star Trek writers ever leave the Irish alone? Is “Spirit Folk” GOOD… or is it GARBAGE?
Join us as we talk about the wonderful myths of the divine spirits that make up some of Japan's spiritual beliefs.

Richard Riehle is a character actor whose face you have seen on stage, television, and film since the 1970s, with a grand total of 400 on-screen credits – a number that continues to rise every year! You may remember him as Batai from the Star Trek TNG classic "The Inner Light," as Seamus from "Fair Haven" and "Spirit Folk" on Star Trek Voyager, and as Dr. Lucas in the Augment arc from Star Trek Enterprise, "Cold Station 12" and "The Augments." We spend some time discussing working with Patrick Stewart in one of the most beloved episodes of TNG and why his signature mustache was nowhere to be seen, memories of Robert Duncan McNeill, Ian Abercrombie, Fintan McKeown, and more from his time in the holographic Irish village of Fair Haven, and being beat up by Brent Spiner (in the show, of course). Plus, working with Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci in "Casino," Harrison Ford in "The Fugitive," Scott Bakula on "Quantum Leap," memories of Angela Lansbury, "Office Space," "Grounded for Life," "The Golden Girls," "Free Willy," "The Legend of Korra" and much more from this very prolific performer! It's been exactly six weeks since we reviewed "Fair Haven" and now that Tom Paris finally has the village back up and running again, we get to see how the villagers cope with the possibility that the Voyager crew are gods. In this show, I'm joined by the talented and spirit-infused musician Fia. Hailing from Sweden, finding home, and songs in the north woods beyond Stockholm, she also finds time to study Astrology as well. She came to me through the web my friend Marya Stark has woven. It's a lovely little conversation. I highly recommend checking out her music as well. It will uplift your spirit if it's down, it will touch your Soul if it feels that pandemic neglect. Your podcast heroes face a true test of their friendship as they review the return to Irish Disneyland, "Spirit Folk". With no Australians in sight to help bail them out, can Peter endure the shocking admission that Joseph...kinda liked it?
"Wie bin ich hier hergekommen und was habt ihr mit Fair Haven gemacht?"
We take a break from the world of video games to launch a new Pilot that's all about Star Trek series from the 90s. In each episode, we'll take one episode from either The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, or Voyager, break it down and use it as a launch pad for for an interesting discussion about some topic related to the episode. We're starting with an episode from what's arguably everyone's least favorite Trek of the three, Voyager. And we're starting with an episode that's not particularly well-liked with "Spirit Folk." While the episode is not great, it does give us a chance to explore the ways in which Star Trek has recognized the person-hood of artificial life forms and the ethics of using technology that seems capable of mass producing sentient beings at will. This is a series we'd like to continue doing in the future. We'll let you know the next episode we're going to tackle on the show and all of these Star Trek series are available on Netflix if you want to follow along.

The Music of Star Trek: Voyager. The music for the later Star Trek series has been described by some as 'wallpaper' music, or music that is just there as filler, without substance. While it may be challenging to come up with new music after having scored 183 episodes (Jay Chattaway) or 256 episodes (Dennis McCarthy), there were still plenty of opportunities for the composers to stretch their legs and compose some truly brilliant music, even in the third Star Trek spin off series. In this episode of Melodic Treks, host Brandon-Shea Mutala takes a look at the new 4-Disc Star Trek: Voyager soundtrack release from La La Land Records. He focuses on the music from the episodes that truly had a shining score which were composed by three different composers. Fair Haven and Spirit Folk. Being stranded 70,000 light years from the Federation, with just a small ship to call home, meant that the crew of Voyager really loved their holodecks. Tom enjoyed creating new locales for his shipmates, and sooner or later he was bound to go Irish. In this episode of The Ready Room we're joined by Matthew Rushing and To The Journey's Charlynn Schmiedt and Tristan Riddell to discuss Voyager's Irish duology “Fair Haven” and “Spirit Folk.” They're episodes fans love to hate, but there are some important questions asked amidst the cows and barfights—particularly about Janeway. In news we remember actor Malachi Throne, who passed away on March 13, and we gather the latest on other Star Trek actors including Chris Pine being named Male Star of the Year, Patrick Stewart calling for an end to violence against women, plus new projects for Scott Bakula, Karl Urban, John Billingsley, and John Cho. We also examine the beautiful packaging and menu screens for the Enterprise Season One Blu-ray set, and speculate on the likelihood of the third J.J. film dropping in 2016. Oh… and there could be an unexpected pairing in Star Trek Into Darkness.
