Podcast intro "Rock Intro 3" courtesy of audionautix.com. Send us a textIn this week's episode of Greetings From the Garden State, host Mike Ham is joined by the full lineup of Hickory, a rising New Jersey folk-rock band that's quickly carving out a name for themselves across the state and beyond. What started as a few friends trading GarageBand tracks during downtime has grown into a six-piece powerhouse fueled by years of shared history, tight musicianship, and a deep love for original music. The group dives into how Hickory came together after years of playing in different cover bands, how they balance creative drive with day jobs and families, and the challenges—and rewards—of pushing original music in a cover band-heavy market. With one album already under their belt and a second slated for September, Hickory isn't just here to play shows—they're building something bigger. We cover:The band's origin story and collaborative songwriting processNavigating the NJ music scene as an original actThe shift from playing covers to building a library of original workTheir growing catalog, including Postcard Picture Show and a new album on the wayUpcoming gigs at Stanhope House, Cricket Hill Brewery, Hidden Track Records, and moreStick around after the interview for a special performance. If you love honest songwriting, tight harmonies, and the kind of band that clearly loves playing together, Hickory is one to watch.

Darren Jachts is the executive producer of Charlie Loves Our Band the story of From Good Homes. This film would not have been possible without Darren's support and unending enthusiasm. Darren lived across the street from Brady and Scott Rymer way back in the 1970's, in Sparta, New Jersey. He has a long-lasting relationship with the Rymers and Todd Sheaffer. Darren has had a very successful 40-year career in the industrial packaging and chemical distribution business, which still occupies a good portion of his time. As well as owning an offshore sport fishing charter company which has been a passion of his, along with music and a little bit of golf for many years. You can often find Darren on the golf course with Todd, which certainly helped get our film project started, and tweaked along the way. I bumped into Darren on Nov. 21st, 2013, at the From Good Homes concert at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, NJ. During our brief backstage chat we found that we both had a connection to Vermont where I live in Montpelier, and Darren had a second home in Stowe. We connected here in Vermont and started a series of late-night visits reminiscing about the days in Sparta and sometime around 2018 the idea for a film started to get steam. We are both thrilled to be sharing the film, Charlie Loves Our Band with the world. Music in this episode: Wind Blows, Krogh's, Sparta NJ, 10/10/90 Drivin' n Cryin', Jiggs, 1/5/91 Neighbors, George Inn, 11/9/91 I know You Rider, The Front, Burlington, VT. 10-14-90 Let Go, Bitter End, 10-18-91 Ferris Wheel, Stanhope House, 4-4-92 Charlie Hogan, Krogh's 5/8/91

Episode Four features Skip Daly. While studying Geology at the University of Maryland, Skip was required to take a 5-week field course and ended up at SUNY Binghamton, in upstate NY. Looking for some live music, someone suggested he check out Bogies in Albany, where the band that night happened to be From Good Homes. Skips life would never be the same. He became a big fan of FGH and saw shows up and down the east coast throughout the 90's. Skip ended up forming BOS records and released From Good Homes farewell live album, Take Enough Home, Todd Sheaffer's solo album, Dream of Love and the debut album from Railroad Earth, the Black Bear Sessions. He's not as deeply involved in music these days, but remains a close friend of the band and a committed FGH fan. This episode features "Let Go" from that infamous show at Bogies on May 29th, 1993, and "Heading To The Water" from the Stanhope House on May 5th, 1992.
