Holiday cheer (and vegan Egg Nog laced with Fireball Whisky) was in the air as Mark and Nicole welcomed Elisa Jordana and Santa Claus to a fast paced and fun holiday party. Elisa was engaging with her fans on Livestream while the show was going on and her fans were typically unpredictable. She cleared up previous claims that she was asexual and detailed how she fell for Gabe Saporta the lead singer of Cobra Starship and ended up as the keytar player so she could be in front. She met Benjy Bronk on jdate and ended up joining him on The Howard Stern Show writing staff. She then was engaged to Andy Dick despite never having slept with him and his being flamboyantly and unapologetically gay. She talks all about these relationships, her beef with Stuttering John Melendez, getting hacked by her IRL fans, making over men and how she deals with friends and lovers talking bad about her on podcasts, her own show Kermit and Friends and much more. Santa had to deal with Elisa's friends calling him a “pedo”, doubting his validity and ethnicity as well as having bible verses thrown at him. He dealt with them with his usual charm and grace, talked about his beef with the Easter Bunny, having magical “keys” to everyone's house, how creepy it is that he knows when you are sleeping and determined whether Elisa and Nicole were naughty or nice. On this episode of CD Burners, the guys are back and this time they get to chat with myspace sensation Gabe Saporta of Cobra Starship about the making of Viva La Cobra!, produced by Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump. This album, released in fall 2007, was a unique blend of emo, pop punk, and electropop. This album famously paved the way for many other bands into this new era of music consisting of genre bending, scandalous, party anthems.

Brace yourselves for an episode of boomer humor and questionable musical insights as DORKTREEPOD takes on the monumental task of reviewing Cobra Starship's "Viva La Cobra." Join these two musical enthusiasts, who are quick to admit they might idiots, as they embark on a journey through the bold sounds and daring lyrics of this 2007 album. In an attempt to analyze the album, our hosts will navigate the highs and lows of "Viva La Cobra," armed with little more than their passion for music and a generous dose of self-awareness about their limited expertise. Expect candid confessions of their own musical misjudgments and a few moments of genuine admiration for Cobra Starship's infectious tunes. As they dissect each track, from the synth-laden "The City Is at War" to the rebellious "Smile for the Paparazzi," our duo will explore whether they can decipher the nuances of Cobra Starship's musical landscape or if they're merely treading water in a sea of pop-punk confusion. Tune in for a humorous yet humbling exploration of "Viva La Cobra," where our hosts bravely admit that their musical prowess may be a tad questionable. Will they emerge as newfound Cobra Starship aficionados, or will they remain the self-deprecating enthusiasts you've come to know and love? Listen and find out!

On this week's episode, Matt and Brian talk about the worst and most stupid method of silencing an incriminating witness by talking about the Samuel L. Jackson action vessel Snakes on a Plane! They go into how Cobra Starship made a not-so-great theme song and the vision quest that spawned the band's existence, how paper thin the movie's plot is, how certain action sequences felt like the superior Aliens movie, the movie's plot holes and lack of story development, all while enjoying the movie for what it is! The criticisms are harsh, but they would both watch it again! This week, The Junkies continue their in-depth look into beloved actor Samuel L. Jackson's most iconic roles by watching the legendarily goofy (but not Sharknado goofy) Snakes on a Plane. Is it a comedy? An action-adventure? A romance? It's really a combination of the three, with bad special effects and a Cobra Starship video thrown in to boot. The Junkies confess what creatures they'd be afraid to be trapped on a plane with, from geckos to…butterflies(?), and wonder how they would die if they were trapped with those monkey-fighting snakes on that Monday-to-Friday plane. Then they enjoy some 2006 technology (phones that are also cameras?!), discuss the movie's best kill scenes, and act out the scene where Kenan Thompson's character saves the day with his Playstation prowess. You can prepare for the next class by watching Samuel L. Jackson in Coach Carter.Thank you to Olympus Games, the home of the Pop Culture Junkie Podcast.Links:Apple Podcast:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/pop-culture-junkie/id1536737728Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/7k2pUxzNDBXNCHzFM7EL8WWebsite: www.popculturejunkie.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/PopCultureJunkiePodcastTwitter: @PopJunkiesInstagram: @pop.culturejunkiesEmail: junkies@popculturejunkie.comAlex on Instagram: @alcasnunAlex on Twitter: @alcasnunHayley on Instagram: @thirtynerdythrivingNicole on Instagram: @nicole_eldridgeNicole on Twitter: @naeldridge14Nicole on TikTok: @nicole_eldridgeShauna on Twitter: @shaunatrinidadShauna on Instagram: @shaunatrinidad

Fangs up!!! Holy shit is this album a throwback. In this episode, we talk about the album Hot Mess by Cobra Starship. We talk about the music but also the ~*culture*~ of it all. From how Cobra basically created vlogging to the intelligence of Gabe Saporta as he created Cobra after Midtown. Some say he was "selling out", we say he's just kind of a genius ;) We discuss so much more in this episode, and it was wonderful to reminisce and remember why we're so thankful for Cobra and this time in our lives. Tell us if you have all the same feels for Cobra Starship as we do and what you think of the pod at @NostalgiaNites on IG/twitter/tiktok.

We're talking My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, Paramore, Gym Class Heroes, Twenty One Pilots, Cobra Starship, and even I Don't Know How But They Found Me, and also the fan communities and cults of personality around these, for the most part, good bands!Emily's auditory shitposts can be found on his Tumblr, while Rocky's can be found on her Twitter. On today's edition, we're highlighting a record from the year 2008. The record I've chosen today is the third official full length from Chicago's very own The Academy Is... The album is called Fast Times at Barrington High. I love this record. I think it's one of the most expertly crafted pop rock albums. Sonically, it still holds up and the recording and production is quite good. I love every song. It's a very bright Summery record. The songs have big anthemic choruses. The lyrics and melodies get stuck in your head. There's nothing too complex. Fast Times at Barrington High is the third and final studio album by American rock band The Academy Is..., released in August 2008. It was named the 46th best album of 2008 by Rolling Stone. It was produced by S*A*M and Sluggo. The title refers to the high school to which William Beckett and Adam Siska went,[3] and a play on the title of the 1982 film Fast Times at Ridgemont High. The album cover photo was taken by William Beckett's sister, Courtney Beckett, and shows William sitting on a couch with Naomi, a friend of the band.[citation needed] Pete Wentz posted a blog entry saying that he heard the demos for the new album and called them, "Mind blowing. Miles away from where they were."[4] Collaborations include Andrew McMahon from Jack's Mannequin; Gabe Saporta, Ryland Blackinton and Alex Suarez from Cobra Starship; and Mason Musso and Blake Healy from Metro Station. I feel like this was the record that should have put The Academy Is into the realm of pop stardom. It may have just been a year or two too late. I'm not really sure why radio didn't grab ahold of any of the singles from the record.
