This week we have the privilege of closing out the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy by watching, reviewing, and ranking Revenge of the Sith as a part of our Star Wars movie marathon. In this movie it has been three years since the Clone Wars began. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) rescue Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) from General Grievous, the commander of the droid armies, but Grievous escapes. Suspicions are raised within the Jedi Council concerning Chancellor Palpatine, with whom Anakin has formed a bond. Asked to spy on the chancellor, and full of bitterness toward the Jedi Council, Anakin embraces the Dark Side. #starwars #darthvader #skywalker Time Codes 00:00 - Intro 06:55 - The Opening crawl 10:30 - Initial Thoughts/ Reactions this time 23:45 - Movie Talk 1:11:50 - Lightsaber Duels Ranked 1:29:14 - Favorite Character 1:38:50 - Favorite Scene 1:48:50 - Box office/ budget 1:49:25 - Academy Awards 1:50:45 - Critic scores 1:52:50 - Our Scores out of 10 2:08:25 - OUR Ranking/Where is Falls 2:12:35 - Next Week is Clone Wars: The Movie Check us out on Letterboxd Ben's Letterboxd: https://boxd.it/5nFMd Ethan's Letterboxd: https://boxd.it/4QIVr Micah's Letterboxd: https://boxd.it/1bjyt Intro and Outro theme is from @Auralnauts Andor synthwave and "The Book of Boba Fett" (synthwave cover) Follow us on Instagram https://instagram.com/multiversemonologues?utm_medium=copy_link Logo done by the fabulous @chameleo.angel on instagram. As the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy revealed, the Jedi Order forbade romantic relationships and other emotional attachments. This is ironic considering that Luke Skywalker's love and attachment to his father ultimately saved the galaxy. This begs the question: why were the Jedi so frightened by love? I believe that they feared that all love would ultimately turn selfish and lead to poor choices. However, as we know, love and attachment can also be our greatest strengths when they are done selflessly. Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi, Thrasher, BJ, and special guest Nathan P. Butler (author of A Saga on Home Video: A Fan's Guide to U.S. Star Wars Home Video Releases) discuss Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith. A man kills children because he doesn't want his wife to die. Writer-director George Lucas had a lot of heavy lifting to do in this conclusion to the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, and it shows. A bloated, if humorous, opening adventure is the spoonful of sugar the audience craves before going into a depressing story. Not everything works here, but thematically there's deeper and richer things going on than in the prior two prequels. Ewan McGregor and Ian McDiarmid once again nail the landing in what could have been thankless roles. A polish by famed British playwright Tom Stoppard makes a notable difference to the gravity of the situation at hand. An end of an era to be sure. Aside from producing his pet project World War II drama Red Tails and animated fairy musical Strange Music, Star Wars maestro George Lucas would basically retire from filmmaking after selling Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012. Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi, Thrasher, BJ, and special guest Rudie Obias (freelancer writer for Mental Floss) discuss Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones. A whiny teenager massacres a village while professing his love to an older woman. The lowest grossing of the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones takes place a handful of years after Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace. Anakin is now a petulant teenager fawning over Queen Amidala. Obi-Wan Kenobi has a beard and more sass than before. Part murder mystery, part love story, and part political quagmire, Attack of the Clones has too much story going on and kind of drags for much of its running time. However, not all is lost. Writer and director George Lucas seems giddy here exploring a cacophony of settings and ideas; if nothing else, the whole enterprise feels less leaden than The Phantom Menace. Christopher Lee as Count Dooku makes a nice pairing with senior baddie Ian McDiarmid as Senator Palpatine. Both actors can bluster their way through even the most banal dialogue. Today is an important day in Star Wars history. Exactly 20 years ago, George Lucas released the second installment in his Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. With the peculiar title of "Attack of the Clones", it promised to be a very pulpy, operatic adventure. And it was! The reactions to the film were rather loud and mostly negative, until just a few years ago when a generation who grew up on the film came of age and a couple of old fogies like myself started to reevaluate the film. While this film has been the biggest wrestle for me, you might be surprised where I stand now. Join me; it is your destiny! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

With the fairly recent completion of the sequel trilogy, it's a great time to look back at George Lucas' polarizing Episodes I-III, and ask ourselves if these much maligned films were truly as sinful as the fanbase would have had us believe. Or is there a certain appeal to these cinematic additions to the Star Wars canon, ironic or otherwise? Was this sub-series' best value its contribution to meme culture as we know it, or is there something else in them for the millennial generation that grew up with this iteration of the franchise? In Part 1, we take a look at 1999's The Phantom Menace and 2002's Attack of the Clones. Where did these films stand at their premieres nearly twenty years after the original trilogy? Do they hold up today, two decades later? Find out now, and stay tuned for Part 2, where we discuss the final episode of the trilogy—Revenge of the Sith, along with its contemporary media! Now THIS is podcasting! In the second half, Mike provides more details on the characters within the story and gives examples on how the book's themes work so well with the story being told, which falls into light-spoiler territory. He gives plenty of warning before delving into his more detailed review, so you can listen to as little or as much info about AToC before picking it up yourself!
